Move Mailbox from one Mac to another?

Hello All --
I had a problem on my iMac and had to erase the disk and restore it using a Time Capsule backup.  That worked great, except I found I am missing a few importat mailboxes in Mail.
I have a MacBook Pro that, fortunately, has the missing mailboxes and emails.  How do I move a few individual mailboxes and their email contents from my MacBook Pro to my iMac?
Thanks in advance.

Select the folder you want to export.
Under Mailbox in the Menu bar, select Export.
Put the files on an external drive or use a service like DropBox or OneDrive to copy the files to the computer with the missing data.
Under File in the Menu bar when Mail is active, select Import Mailboxes...

  • How can I transfer entire contents of Mail mailbox from one Mac to another?

I've long wondered how to do this:
I have two Macs - an iMac and a MacBook Pro.
I have categorized several hundred emails on the MacBook into a separate "mailbox" by itself. Let's just call it "Project XYZ emails" for the sake of discussion.
I need to transfer ALL of those emails +en masse+, hopefully still categorized together into a separate "Project XYZ emails" mailbox file, from the MacBook to the iMac. How is this done?
In the old days, when I used to use Eudora, this was quite simple -- one could physically locate the separate desired "mailbox" file in the Finder and just copy it from one hard drive to the other, and then place the mailbox into the appropriate place of Eudora's file structure on the second computer. Relaunch Eudora and voila, the new mailbox is there for viewing, etc.
But in Mail, I can't find any tangible "file" on my hard drive that represents a "mailbox" in the Mail program. And that includes control-clicking the application file itself and choosing "Show Package Contents." When I do that, I can see, after burrowing into the folders, a single large file called "Mail" which I think contains ALL mailboxes lumped together. But I can't see a way to separate them for individual manipulation.
Any suggestions or ideas on how to copy entire mailboxes in Mail from one Mac to another?

    Thanks! Seems to have worked.
Once I imported tham, I had to fiddle around renaming mailboxes and "moving" the emails to the desired locations, but that only took a minute. So overall, seems like that's the solution! I only wish that the steps to do this were made clearer by Apple in the Mail "help" menu -- where I couldn't find any mention of how to do this.
A happy ending, in any event.
In case anyone reads this in the future, let me add in the missing steps, to make it perfectly clear:
In Mail, choose 'archive mailbox' from the mailbox menu.
+Copy the newly created archived mailbox file, which will probably be a file with the suffix ".mbox," from the original machine to the second machine.+
On the second machine: In Mail choose 'import mailbox' from the file menu.
+The emails will now appear in a new mailbox in Mail listed under the name "imported" or "import." If desired, either rename the mailbox, or create a new mailbox with the correct name, and "move" all the emails into it.+
    Done!

    Hi RMcMullen,
You should look at the [[Backing up your information]] Knowledge Base article. It will give you all the information you need to back up everything so you won't lose a thing.

  • Move mailbox from one user to another?

    Greets -
Running Mail on OS X Server 10.5.8, and I'm trying to move a folder from one user to another. I thought this would do it:
    cp -pPR /var/spool/imap/user/user1/folder /var/spool/imap/user/user2
It does copy, of course, and appears to have the same ownership and permissions as the other folders, but it doesn't show up. Is there some other kind of blessing required, or probably a better way to copy it than that cp command? Forgive me essentially weak unix skills....
    Many thanks,
    z

you need to set the cyrus acl, using cyradm or easier is with SirAdmin
    -or take the simple route-
setup your mail program with both imap accounts and drag the folder from one account to the other.

Do you want to move your iPhoto library from A to B or just the photos?
If it's the library just connect the two MBPs together, via LAN, Target Disk Mode, etc., so you can drag the library from A to B.

    From a previous thread:
Touch and hold any icon for a couple of seconds. They'll all start to wobble. Touch and drag the one you want to move to the side of the screen and the next screen will appear; drop the icon on whatever screen you want it on.
You can also do it quicker in iTunes - connect the phone and click the Apps tab in the main window. You'll see a picture of your phone with the apps laid out. Just click and drag

  • How do i move photos from one mac to another

I just purchased a MacBook Pro, and would like to move the photos on my old iMac to it.  How do I do that?  Thanks.

Are your photos in iPhoto or are they stored in folder on your iMac?
Firstly, the two Macs need to be connected, either via ethernet or wirelessly, on the same network.
The same can be achieved by copying the photos from your iMac to an external hard drive and then to your MBP.
You can copy the entire iPhoto library over to your MacBook Pro and replace the existing iPhoto library in the Pictures folder. (Do you have photos in the iPhoto Library on your MBP?)
It is also possible to have more than one iPhoto Library, by giving the library on the iMac a new name, and then copying it over.

  • How to move programs from one mac to another

Hi guys, I was wondering if I can move all my programs on my iMac (adobe cs5, aperture, final cut studio, etc) to a macbook pro using time machine or migration assistant. I bought my iMac used and do not have have the serial numbers for adobe cs5 and final cut pro. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appriecated.
    Thanks

Yes, you can do that. However, some commercial programs know they have been moved to a different machine and will require that you re-enter the license key. It may be better to try cloning one machine to the other.
Just connect them by Firewire cable. Boot the computer you want to copy TO into Target Disk Mode. Boot the one you will copy FROM normally. The computer in TDM will show up on the Desktop as just another hard drive.
Now use Disk Utility to clone them:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the TO computer. Source means the FROM computer.

  • How do you move iPhoto from one Mac to another

I recently purchased the new Macbook Pro two weeks ago.  I have iPhoto 11 on my old Mac (OS Lion, also).  I imported them, but I am wondering if there's any way to do this and maintain my "events folders?"  I have 10 years of photos, and they all moved over, but there is no organization.  Is there a way to move them over (I did this from an external hard drive) and maintain the same "events folders" that they are organized in?  I had them organized by month and year.  (Example - 2012 - March, 2012 - Feb).

You want to move the Library:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • How do you move Compressor 3.05 settings from one Mac to another?

How do you move settings from one Mac to another?
I have Compressor 3.05 installed on two Intel Macs: a MacPro tower and a MacBook Aluminum. I created a new setting on the MacBook, and can see it in Library -> App Support -> Compressor as "<name>.setting" Then I moved to the Mac Pro for speed and created a few more settings. I copied these settings from the Mac Pro libary and put them in the MacBook library; restarted Compressor on the MacBook but still cannot see those presets from within Compressor. I hate to re-create all those settings, but I do move between both computers depending on what I am doing.
    What am I missing? Thanks.

    To copy single settings.
    1. Drag & Drop your setting from the Compressor Settings window to i.e. the desktop
    2. Copy .setting file to an other Mac
    3. Drag & Drop the .setting file(s) over to the Settings window in Compressor
    To copy settings groups (folders)
    1. Go to */Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Compressor*
    2. Copy the settings group folder you want to your i.e. the desktop
    3. Make sure Compressor is not open on the other Mac
    4. Copy the settings group folder to the same location on the other Mac
    5. Open Compressor
    Hope this helps

The Imap account does not need to be moved, sign in on the new machine, your mail will be there.
Does this mean even though these mails had been downloaded to the first Mac, they are still stored online too
Yes, Imap systems store all mail on the server, all connected clients are synchronized to the server (the mail itself stays on the server)
... regarding the POP accounts. Do you simply want the contents are or you planning on continued use of these accounts on the new machine?
    Continued use.
Export each mailbox from the old machine to the desktop, to do so select a mailbox, rght click and choose Export, repeat for all others. Move the mailboxes to the new machine'sdesktop.
I suggest setting up the new accounts before importing the mail from the old machine.
In mail choose File>Import Mailboxes, choose the ones on the desktop (one at a time) a new mailbox will appear in Mail called Imported, you can move mail from there back to the correct mailbox in the POP accounts.

How do you transfer the stickie data file from one mac to another?

I think this is the file -
In (hard drive) > Users > yourhomefolder (the one with the house icon) > Library, look for a loose file named StickiesDatabase
Copying that file to the same location on the new machine (and replacing the file there now) should move the notes. It is probably a good idea that both machines be running the same OS X version.

  • How to move songs in one playlist from one mac to another?

I am running the current version of  iTunes on my MacPro and my MBAir, both of which are authorized computers in my iTunes account.  I would like to copy the tunes in one playlist on my MacPro to my MBA, so that I can take them on the road.  Some of the songs are purchased from the iTunes store, and some have been ripped in from CDs I own.  I have found numerous links explaining how to move an entire iTunes library to a new computer.  But, I simply want to copy a few files from one Mac to another so that I can play them on either machine.  How do I do this?  Thanks!

There are no shortcuts with the way your iTunes libraries are set up. You'll just have to go to each individual song, use "Show in Finder" to locate the actual file and copy and paste them to your other computer's iTunes.
What I suggest for someone who has multiple computers is to designate one computer to store all of your iTunes content and use the Home Sharing feature to stream to the other computer. iTunes was not designed for an individual that has multiple computers.

  • How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process?

How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process? The source Macbook (OS 10.4.11 and iPhoto 6.0.6 (3.2.2.)) is with my husband in Germany, the target MacBook Pro (OS 10.8.5, iPhoto 11) is with me in Japan. Thanks for your help.

I copied the iPhoto Library to a CD and from there to the new MacBook
If you copied the library to the CD via the Finder it would be no different than the methods Terence suggested.  If you used the Share ➙ Burn menu option from inside iDVD you'll get a mini library that has to be accessed from the open library and the events/alubums copied into the destination library.  Not the same as the other methods.
The Share ➙ Burn method is no longer supported with iPhoto 9 and later.
