Move Masters (35K) to Ext HD & Stayed linked ?

I didn’t think ahead when starting to use LR.
I really need to consolidate and end up with some logic.
Here’s the way I’m set up now.
Catalog has a total of 88K images
Internal HDs
HD 1 : OS & apps, incl. LR & LR cat & previews misc bits,files
HD 2 : OS & apps as above etc backup
HD 3 : processed and exported images files not LR linked
HD 4 : Master image files, LR linked (35K images)
External HDs :
3 HDs with masters LR linked and
some with processed & exported images not LR linked
This is what I’m trying to do
I would like to end up with my internal HDs holding :
Drive 1 : my OS and apps
Drive 2 : my OS and Apps bootable back up
Drive 3 : LR cat and previews
Drive 4 : LR cat and previews back up
Ext HD 1 : Masters linked
Ext HD 2 : Masters linked back up
Ext HD 3 : Processed & Exported not LR linked
Ext HD 4 : Processed & Exported back up
I would like to move the HD 4 with the master files to
a larger Ext HD and have them remain linked to LR.
I have many folders so navigating and re-linking these individually
after moving would be very very slow. (35K images)
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I agree with Ian.
With large numbers of images I would tend to move them using OS tools rather than Lightroom as it way too slow. Move them as single block with folder structure etc intact then launch Lightroom, right click on the top level folder for the file structure you moved and choose Update Folder Location... The steps after that should be pretty obvious
I would just add that I've had the best luck if I first use the Synchronize feature in Lightroom on the top level folder(s) before moving with the OS and re-linking that folder location in Lightroom.

How to Move Masters to New Hard Drive?

First, like many of you, my computer is nearly 95% photos taken. This is how I've operated in years past: Did shoot, dumped on Aperture. When the computer got full I moved everything over to an external hard drive even though the respective Aperture libraries did not link up with the photos anymore. Now, that I am selling stock, I need to have full access to all my images, so I can upload and sell them.
I moved my library over to my new 1-terabyte hard drive, but my images are still coming from my "pictures" section on my main computer drive. When I tried tried to Aperture: File: Relocate Masters, the computer started consolidating the images and telling me there was no longer a link to some previewed images. Remember, I moved many images from 2007-2009 to external hard drives. (I'm sure compared to many of you; I'm an unorganized mess.)
So, my questions are: How do I get my photos from my main drive to my new hard drive? And, can I delete the raw files taking up 95% of my computer space that are stored at "pictures" after I move them? And, how can I link my previews back to the images I moved to external hard drives?

If you have a mess, I would recommend that you let Aperture do the heavy lifting for you. (With thanks to Rob Boyer for this suggestion.)
ASSUMPTION: You do not have enough room on your internal HD to simply run a Managed Library and still have about 25% free space and you must therefore use Referenced Masters.
ASSUMPTION TWO: You know the arrangement that you would like to have.
Step .5: Backup everything. I recommend cloning your entire system. You want a safety blanket in case you make a mistake. Take the clone off line, unplug it, keep it safe.
Step One: Set up the arrangement of Folders and Projects that you want in Aperture. You don't have to worry about all of the albums you may want, just your bottom line, basic stucture.
Step Two: Opening one Project at a time, consolidate all of the Masters for a given Project into your Library. Move, don't copy.
Step Three: Still working one Project at a time, Relocate the Masters to a Library folder(s) located whereever you wish. Work slowly, setting up some simple structure that you understand. Again, move, don't copy. N.B. You are doing all of this using Aperture's commands, not/not using the Finder. Sub note, you have the option of renaming your files, should you wish.
Step Four: Using the Finder, check your work. The master files should have disappeared from their original location and now appear in your new Libarary folder(s).
Step Five: If all is well, move to the next Project. If any links are broken, fix them as you go. If all else fails, delete the Versions in Aperture (being careful NOT to delete any any Referenced Masters) and reimport into the correct Project.
Again:
-- Organize the images in Aperture
-- Consolidate the images (move) into the Aperture Library.
-- Relocate (not Export) the Masters out to the pristine folder/file structure of your choice.
N.B. Never, ever, on pain of Aperture death, move or change your Referenced Masters. (You can let other programs READ them.)

I downloaded a movie from itunes on my ipad. In the downloaded area where the movie should be, I only get a link to "iItunes Terms and Conditions", no movie. There is nowhere to accept the terms and conditions.

Video and audio tracks won't stay linked

When I highlight the files I want to stay linked, (audio to video) and right click to link them up, that works. But then when I click on the video or audio file separately they are not linked. This happened suddenly to all my projects so it much be a setting in the program but I'm not sure what. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Click the icon to the right of the magnet, under the sequence timecode.

Audio not staying linked to video

This seems to have just started happening, so I think its just a setting, but I'm unable to locate it.
I am noticing that the audio and video all clips I insert on the timeline are not remaining linked, even though Linking is turned ON on the timeline. I'm having to select them both and manually relink them - this is not sustainable.
Does anyone know the setting for making sure things stay linked unless I choose to unlink them?

If those are set correctly, make sure you don't have LINKED SELECTION turned off. You can toggle it by clicking SHIFT-L. The button is right next to the snapping button in the top right of the timeline window.

How Do You Store Your Movie Masters?

Hi all,
I'm curious, how do you store your Movie Masters? Let's say you filmed an important Family event from a camcorder with a hard drive. You imported the footage into you mac and edited it in iMovie or Final Cut Pro or other app.
Then what?
Do you make a DVD?
Do you save a DVD image file on the computer?
Do you export a .mov or other format file?
Do you delete the DV original files because they are so massive?
Do you save/delete the iMovie or FCP master original footage?
When do you delete the camcorder hard drive original (when you need the space)?
What other approaches do you do?
Which is the Master?
How do you back up your movie?

Great question. I think the issue of backup is a important one, and one I always worry about since I have a lot of video footage that is irreplaceable.
For back-up, it is helpful to define the risk you are trying to protect from.
For example,
1) risk of corruption in iMovie --> I might use Time Machine (but I do not because I have not had the issue)
2) risk of hard drive failure --> I use SuperDuper! nightly
3) Risk of theft or fire --> offsite backup
Here is what I do...
1) I back up my boot disk with SuperDuper automatically to alternate external partitions every other night so I always have two bootable systems. One is less than one day old, and one is less than two days old.
2) I back up my original video files. For my Motion JPEG, VHS-->AIC, DV, and 8MM to DV, the EVENT is the copy I back up. For my AVCHD high def video, I back up the archive of the AVCHD, but I am not currently backing up the Event files, because I would need from 4 to 8 TB to back up these events depending on whether I made one copy or two.
3) I use CrashPlan for my offsite backup. It costs less than $4 per month, and I seeded the initial backup to an external drive to minimize having to transfer video files over the Internet. I currently have 1.2TB of data backed up to CrashPlan, which includes my entire boot drive, and the files described in #2.
4) All of the above is automated, so I don't have to think about it too much. If I have to manually do stuff, I tend to get behind.
You have to consider the value of total multiple redundancy vs. the likelihood that 2 or three unlikely events would all happen at once. For example, CrashPlan could lose my data. My hard disk could fail. I could lose everything in a fire. But it is unlikely that they would all happen at once, except in nuclear war, in which case, who cares?
I am considering adding Time Machine backup and some off-site backup of the Event files into the mix, but for now I am satisfied.

I have a wish list in my itunes on my pc but it is not on my itunes on my ipad2. When I scroll down my movies tab it is not under quick links---- where did it go?

For that matter why does the itunes store/account look different on my ipad as opposed to my computer? There is a lot of links missing from my ipad2 itunes -------

Removed Movie from .Mac Web Gallery But Broken Link Remains?

I published a movie to my Web Gallery successfully. I then tried to republish but got two movies in the Gallery. One movie worked and the other was a broken link. I removed the movie from .Mac using Share>Remove From .Mac, and the working movie was removed. But I am still left with a broken link in the Movies section of my Web Gallery. How can I remove this broken link?
I checked my iDisk and found \Web\Sites\_gallery, but I can't find the index file for the gallery (only folders for the albums).

I'm having the same problem (broken links after a republish) -- and a few others:
1) After about the first time, I have been unable to remove a movie from the gallery. I just get a connection error. I'm able to add movies (somehow the connection magically works) but removing fails most of the time.
2) When adding a movie, for some reason, the title of the movie ends up replacing the "My Gallery" title for my entire web gallery. On the web gallery home page (over my photo albums and videos) it shows the title of the first video.

When I move the mouse quickly, mostly over a link on a page, a small black square flashes

When I move the cursor (mouse) quickly, a small black square quickly flashes where my mouse is, mostly it happens when I mouseover a link fast. The square is sometimes a rectangle and is sometimes different sizes and length's, but it is never HUGE. Mainly it is around 70x70 pixels big or less. I can't really remember when this started happening exactly and I have no idea what this is or if its virus related, but I do full scans with Avast and Malwarebytes all the time and they come up clean.
I've never done this Mozilla Help thing before, so forgive me if I fill in the wrong details...

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Relocating Masters from one ext. drive to another...

I am seeking some advice to Aperture (latest version):
So far the folder of my Master-files has been relocated to an external hard disk, Consequently, in the event of reediting my pictures, I shall have to connect the said hard disk, when/if I would like to get hold of the Masters. Lately I faced a problem with the said external harddisk, and thought that my pictures (MASTERS) were in a process of disappearing. Luckily it appeared that the failure was related to a defect power supply only. BUT, I don't dare going on with this hard drive any longer, being by the way rather old, and immediately I bought a new 1 TB Lacie disk to which I intend to "copy" my Masters. I have by now tried out various ways of moving those Masters from the defect external drive to the NEW external drive, thus pulling the respective folder with the Masters to it's new place - however, hopefully, WITHOUT losing the same folder/files on the partly defect external harddisk. I have already tried "migrations" and a lot of other" tricks" - also pointing with the cursor to the NEW drive - but in vain. To be even more precise: Aperture seems not to be able to find it's way (to "see") the Masters on the new external hard disk - but they ARE there.....I can see them on the new drive. Could a cloning from the defect ext. drive to the new ext. drive be a way of procedure? Or are there more "normal" ways to bring in practise.
Indeed I would be most grateful for any advice that may lead to a succesful detecting of the said masters in their new position, i.e. the new external harddrive. Thanks!

No problem at all
Normally I'd tell you to plug in the old hard drive that contains the masters (so they come back online) and then use the Relocate Masters command we talked about. This will work.
But: I'm a little worried about doing that with a flaky drive. The reason being that when you Relocate masters they are physically moved from one location to another - not copied. So if your source drive should fail midstream it could potentially lead to problems.
If you have a backup of those files elsewhere then go ahead, it's the simplest solution. Otherwise what I'd do is go to the Finder and copy the files to the new drive (just drag your folder from the old to the new). Then, once it's finished copying eject the old faulty drive: in Aperture all your files will now be offline. At that point use the Locate referenced masters command, point Aperture to a missing file in the new location and click Reconnect All.
Aperture will relink everything to the new drive and you should be on your way.

URL iView - ERROR Invalid URL parameter - sap-ext-sid - HTTPS link

Dear Experts,
I have an uregent issue. I have configured an url iview, the link is HTTPS. it is not working from the portal. the system automatically concatenates some URL parameters like sap-ext-sid , sap-wd-finish-rendering.
Similar way i have configure some other links, they are all working without issue. But other links are just HTTP.
Could you please give a me clue to fix this issue.

Try opening the URL iVIew in a new page by providing the property "Open the page in New Window" instead of the same window. Are you trying to integrate WebDynpro ABAP iViews?

Is it impossible to move iTunes folder to ext HD and have it work?

i have tried for two days to copy my iTunes folder to a external HD and point iTunes to it and for the life of me can not get it to work. I have went through various comments on this forum and none of the steps seem to make it work. When i move it and retart iTunes it is empty until i put the old folder back. Am I missing something? I have the latest version of iTunes and a Quad. Any help would be appreciated.

Pointing iTunes to the new location does not tell iTunes where your music is.
It only tells iTunes where to store the next ripped CD, purchased music and added songs.
The locations are stored inside the 'iTunes Library' file (which must not be moved)

After you moved your music the proper way, remember to connect the external drive before running iTunes.
If iTunes doesn't find the library, it will reset the 'iTunes Music folder location'.
You will have to set it to the external drive again in the preferences.

i want to export my video mov from 5dm2 canon ,in my timeline i want to export the video , i wan to klink on EXPORT PROJECT XML but i not can click on it because it stays blanco? what i do wrong.
i use final cut por 10.1.1.
because i want to inport after final cut pro x too Davinci Resolve L ( first time i use Davinci and i not eat mov files )

Move masters to DVD?

I am new to Aperture, but I have used a competitors product for quite some time. Here's my question; can you move your master files to a DVD or CD and have Aperture know where they are? The program I am familiar with will store a thumbnail of your image on your hard drive and allow you to move the masters to a DVD or CD, saving hard drive space. When you select an image the program asks for the specific disk that contains the image master. Does Aperture offer that kind of functionality? I have been experimenting with the Vaults and export functions without much success. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't reccommend it. There are some gotchas:

However I do recommend burning projects to DVD if you are intent in using DVDs. Better still, just keep buying hard drives. They are very cheap per GB, are fast to access, and will work for many years to come.

My CSS file name won't save & won't stay linked to my pages.

I moved my internal style sheet to an external style sheet and it won't save as the file name i give it, it saves as "untitled".
-i am unable to change file name in the code or directly on the file icon....it just reverts back to "untitled".
-i deceided oh well my style sheet will be called "untitled" and proceeded to work.
-i linked a few of my pages to "untitled" and saved them.
-this morninging when i opened my project up none of the styles were saved on any of the pages so i went to relink again then close and open them. the same thing accured, none of the styles were saved.
i am working in CS3
this is what i did to move my internal style sheet to an external style sheet
went to my CSS styles pannel and selected all
-selected all my rules
-command clicked on the rules and chose ""move to external rules"
- in the "move to external rules" dialogue box i chose - move rules to "a new style sheet" and click ok
- in my "save sheet file as" dialogue box i browse to the folder (assets) where i want to save my new style sheet and name it "styles.css"
this is what i did to link my pages to the external style sheet
in the CSS styles pannel i clicke dthe attach style sheet button
in the "attach external style sheet" dialogue box i browse to "untitled" and add as a link
note: the code to link to my external sheet is still in my code <link href="assets/untitled.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
any knowledge anybody can share with me? im new to dreamweaver...i am teaching myself so any help would be great. thanks!

The simplest way to create an external CSS file is to use File menu > New > CSS.
Open your HTML document in code view.
Cut or Ctrl+X the CSS rules - everything between the <style type="text/css"> and </style> tags.
Switch to the new CSS file and paste style rules into the blank page.
Hit Ctrl+S to save filename.css
Link external stylesheet to HTML document.
