Move Media Player for Mac

I want to be able to watch full TV episodes at ABC.com, but it keeps telling me I need to install the Move Media Player.
I follow the instructions they have for Mac users, and click the "Install Now" button. I allow my computer to trust the website, and when the loading is complete, nothing happens.
I've tried to download this several different ways.
Is it even possible to download the Move Player onto a Mac?

I went to ABC.com and everything worked fine, although as I am not in US I could not watch full episodes, just trailers etc, which all worked well.
I don't know 'Move Media Player' (spelling?) but:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Move Media Player for MAC - ABC and FOX TV

I have followed all the instructions from a post a while back, but I have had no luck in downloading the Move Media Player so that I can watch ABC and FOX online. Can you please give me some assistance? I have updated all the drivers, flash players, and unblocked popups, etc. I am running Tiger 10.4.11 -- I don't see any reason that it shouldn't be working. I have been working on this for 2 weeks now. Please help!

    Corey,
    Which browser are you using?
I went to the link Klaus1 provided and tried my best to click where it says: FAQ's and it won't let me. However, I did a View Source to make sure which plug in it requires, and it does say Flash version 9.
Corey... do this... in Safari click where it says Help in the Menu then click Installed Plug-ins. When the list populates, press Command + F on your keyboard. That will prompt a search field top right just under your Bookmarks. Type in Shockwave Flash and see what the response is. It should say:
    Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”.
If you still can't view video on FOX or ABC, try UNinstalling the application, here are the instructions to do so: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2
Make sure whenever you install or uninstall software, that all your other open applications are closed.
Then use this link that Klaus1 provided and reinstall:

    Got my fingers crossed!

  • Windows Media Player for MAc and other issues

I just bought a mac a week ago.
Decided to do the switch since the person at the store told me I could use the win XP interface. Anyway after installing the win xp, i realised my laptop doesnt not recognise the drivers.I got no sound, no airport. I am not too sure if the service pack is the issue. I am using service pack one.
Since I need to listen to some online lecture recordings and my xp doesnt have sound, i have to use it on MAC OS. But as the problem is the site kept telling me to install Internet explorer 5.5 and above and after install IE for MAc 5.1, it ask for Windows Media player. I installed flip4mac and media player for mac ..it still doesnt work...
I am truly sad to see the difficult in using a macbook and i kinda regretted getting it. It just getting on my nerves....
can someone please guide me or do you have any similar problem?
    Thanks

sound, no airport. I am not too sure if the service
pack is the issue. I am using service pack one.
Yes the service pack is an issue if you're using Boot Camp to run XP. If you don't have SP2, you can try running Parallels Desktop (http://www.Parallels.com) which doesn't require SP2.
Since I need to listen to some online lecture
recordings and my xp doesnt have sound, i have to use
it on MAC OS. But as the problem is the site kept
telling me to install Internet explorer 5.5 and above
and after install IE for MAc 5.1, it ask for Windows

Some streaming media sites are not compatible with Mac OS X. Are these online lectures for school? I would simply ask the person running the class to help you get support. They can tell you pretty quickly if it's possible to listen with a Mac. If it's not, you should be able to do it from XP with either Parallels or Boot Camp (provided you have an SP2 version of XP).
I am truly sad to see the difficult in using a
macbook and i kinda regretted getting it. It just
    getting on my nerves....
There are times that using a Mac (with 5% market share) is frustrating because many websites don't follow standards properly. If the web designers blow it off and only support Windows, 95% of the users are still happy and don't complain. That's lazy and infuriating but it happens quite a lot. There's even a name for it: Mac Marginalization.
So you will run into this from time to time. The best solution on the Macbook is to get one of the Windows environments up and running properly. But you should still complain LOUDLY to the people who set up the bad website. The only way this will change is if users let lazy site administrators know that they are MAD about it.

  • Problems with Windows Media Player for Mac's

Is it safe to download and opperate Windows media player for Mac's to view video on the web ?
Anybody has experience with it ? What are possible problems that may be encountered ? Thanks for any input or feedback.

"Is it safe to download and opperate Windows media player"
    Sure, why not?
You should know that's it's discontinued, and no longer developed by Microsoft, and therefore will never be native to Intel Macs. You should look to the free Flip4Mac QuickTime plugin from flip4mac.com

  • What media player for Mac has Speed Control and can open WMA?

    Hello,
I recently changed from PC to Mac and I am working on my thesis transcribing interviews that come in a .wma format. So I need a media player for Mac that has both Speed Controlers (so I can slow down the audio to transcribe them) and can open .wma audio files. Please! I really hope there is a way out of this, thank you very much!

The Audacity application will playback at a selectable speed --

  • Conflict with Windows Media Player for Mac

I´ve installed parallel desktop on my mac (MacBook Pro), then Windows so I can run a PC only program. The conflict is this: When I want to play a video on WMP (for mac), for example: when I receive an email with a video clip to be played and I double click it, Parallel Desktop starts up automaticaly to play it on windows. I´ve right clicked and tried to specify that WMP on my mac should be the one to open videos by default; but it´s not working, or I´m doing something wrong.
    Any wisdom? Thanks in advance.

select a .wmv file and enter command+i. in the resulting popup go to "open with" section, select the default application you want (not a Windows Media player for Mac which is extinct) to use and click "change all". see if it sticks now.

  • Questions on Flip4Mac and MS Windows Media player for Mac

If one installs "flip4mac" sofware, the plugin is installed. Will there be a icon or an application file for this software and an uninstaller file in the application folder? Do I have to activate the plugin before I use the web site to play the "wma" or "wmv" files? or it is not necessary to do that once it is installed? To uninstall, do I activate the "uninstall" file or the icon in the application folder?
As per Dave, in the Maxfixit, he says he uninstalled and went back to using media player. Does the Microsoft WM player handle DRM files to play? If so why Craig is saying that Flip4Mac is a "MUST HAVE"? Why not install the Microsoft WM player instead of Flip4Mac?
If one wants to install Microsoft WM player, what is latest version available for Mac? and where can I get it from and install it? MS WM player for Mac ver 9 comes in .bin or .hqt formats not .dmg format. Does the .bin format be installed by doule clicking on the file? or you need "stuffit" prog to expand and install the same?
Appreciate your suggestions regarding this matter. Thanks.

A Flip4Mac application folder is created in the Applications folder.  An uninstaller is included in the folder along with the Flip4Mac player application.
Flip4Mac currently does not play files that are protected by the MS DRM.  However, if you use WMP on an Intel Mac you will have to run the browser in Rosetta because the WMP browser plug-in is not a universal binary.  I'm not sure that the Mac version of WMP will play DRM protected files.
Yes, Stuffit is required to unpack the archive.  You can download Stuffit Expander from www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com or www.allume.com.

  • I can't open Windows Media Player for Mac

I need to run windows media player for an important service i suscribe to, (mlb.com). I installed the mac version on the windows website, but I cannot open it because my mac says that I need to choose what application to open it with. I don't know what application I should choose to open it. I don't even know if i have the application to open it. Thanks for any help.

You might want to use Flip4Macinstead.
If you are downloading Windows Media Player you will also need to download Stuffit Expander as Microsoft have used Stuffit to compress the installation file and Tiger now no longer comes with Stuffit.
Once you have expanded the .sit file you can then run the Windows Media Player installer.

  • Windows Media Player for Macs Problem

Hi. I realize this is not a direct iMovie question however I (along with alot of other iMovie users) have to occasionaly deal with WMV files by converting them to a format to be imported by iMovie.....therefore I thought some other iMovie users may have encountered this problem. I recently got an iMac G5(0S10.4) and have been transfering some info from my old Mac(iMac G3(OS10.2.8)) to the New Mac. With the new Mac....every time I try to open a wmv file with the Windows Media Player 9 for Macs...I get a message...."This file may not play correctly because it was compressed by using a codec that is not supported".The file will open..the video will play...but theres no audio. The same message appears for wmv files transfered from the old mac, taken from a CD, or downloaded from the net. However these same files will play on the old Mac with audio using the same WMPlayer. I tried re-installing the WMPlayer...but did not make any difference. The strange thing is....a few days ago when I first tried this ....the wmv files would open and play with audio on the new Mac however now the message comes up with all wmv files preventing me from converting them with audio to a format for iMovie. Is the problem with the new Mac, the WMPlayer or the wmv files. Any suggestions to remedy this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi. Strange things still happening. This afternoon when I tried opening the wmv files with Quicktime "flip4mac" all the wmv files were "greyed out" in the "open" window preventing me from opening them. I just tried opening one with the WMPlayer and viewing the "Show movie Info".....it reads...WMVideo-9.0, WMAudio-9.1.....which makes me wonder if the WMPlayer 9.0 will play WMAudio-9.1 but then again the same player plays it on the old mac. Then......just to double-check...tried opening one again with the Quicktime Flip 4 Mac. This time the wmv file opened and played with audio. I'm wondering if the problem the 1st time was that a "restart" was needed after installing the flip4mac software the 1st time (even though I dont recall the installer telling me that). The "Show movie info" this time reads...WMVideo-9 standard and the WMAudio-9 standard. I would prefer if the WMPlayer could open the files (as its a bit more convienent to just double-click and open files then go to Quicktime/menu/file/openfile/wmvfile/open) however I'm glad that I have the option now to use the Flip4mac player.Thanks. P.S.-(Dawn.....if your logged in...the "post new topic" link appears in its usual place for me at the top of the discussions page)

  • Cannot download Windows Media Player for Mac.....

On this intel-based mac, i cannot seem to download Windows Media Player, or Flip4Mac components for Quicktime...has anyone found a solution for this problem....although i think Quicktime is a really nice media player, Windows Media Player is used much more frequently and i need it to view videos that Quicktime Player cannot open and that are only available in WMA format..please help me!...

OK here's the deal, you can download www.flip4mac.com and load onto your Intel MBP. First thing to do before launching the flip4mac installer is to go to
Applications-->Utilities - Find the application "Installer" and right click- get info and check box "open using rosetta".
Go back to flip4mac installer and launch. It will now allow you to install onto Intel Mac. Previously, you would get an error not allowing you to install on Intel Macs. Should be gone now. Once installed, you can go back and change the installer back to original. Once flip4mac is installed, find the Safari app in the applications folder and right click- get info and select "open using rosetta". All Windows .wmv files will now play within the browser window and not download to your HD. The sacrifice is the hit in speed you'll take while Safari runs in Rosetta mode. But you can toggle on and off as you need.

  • Windows Media Player for Mac to play .vob vid?

I downloaded a video that had a ".vob" designation. I couldn't play it, and someone told me that you need the latest version of Windows Media Player to play it.
Can someone please direct me to where I can get that player for the Mac? And what does .vob stand for? Thanks.

.VOB files are not Windows specific. They are a container format for DVD video.
Everything you want to know about .VOB files can be found on the Wiki HERE.
You can play them with VLC which is found HERE.

  • Some DVDs  for School, Downloaded Media Player for Mac but still...

(I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but I am sure I will be notified very quickly.)
I am in a bind. I have these Multimedia Symposium CDs. I have been trying the iDvd to see if they will play, but maybe there really is an important difference between CD and DVD. Anyway, the lace that made them told me they re DVDs.
Anyway, in the manual that came with the 12-pack, of course Mac is not listed as a "Minimum System Requirement." They are about 5 years old (I really could not afford the brand-new ones and they are exactly the same except they have not been open yet.
I was able to use StuffIt and get Windows Media Player (the latest mac version) downloaded and right away it wanted to play some DVDs and CDs on a website abut the Grammy's. Both just music and a DVD (music and video) worked great from this site.
I seem to meet all the other requirements except under Processor it says; "IBM or 100% compatible PC. This is a MacBook Pro which means it is not a PC, right? I am not up on a lot with the computer field, especially the picky stuff like this.
A little about the install of the applications. (I know how much you guys love detailed and long Posts so I will keep it to a screeching halt, or I should say I will try.) I followed Stuff'Its Instructions, which basically said just to download it to the desktop, drag and drop it in the Program (I assume the Applications and Programs folder are pretty much the same.) and you are good to go. I did not even look to see where StuffIt went, I just knew it successfully dropped into the Applications folder. After that, I have no idea about how it knows that the Windows Media Player ( (I think it is ) is the latest for Mac.
As usual with mac once I played a song on the Media Player from the desktop, I noticed over 10 icons that were not on the desktop before I started this much needed task. This is another question all together, but why does Mac put nearly everything on the desktop? I tell it to go other places, and it puts the application, folder, file, song, etc. in the place I request but it also puts it on the desktop. Something that is interesting, I opened an icon webmail.csv icon n the desktop and it is from Numbers (I think the application is called. it comes with iWork and I have never used it.) Anyway, I opened it and it was a spreadsheet of all the people I have in an old address book with about 50 columns headings and about 5 for each name filled in. Very interesting.
So, I can get the Windows Media Player to play. (BTW every video/song I try from the web it leaves an icon f that song/video on the desktop with the Media Player as the icon.)
Does anybody have any suggestions how I can get thee to play? They were new when I opened them unless they plastic wrapped the box, but I asked for a used box. Everything in the box looks clean, no scratches on any CD or DVD, but I really need to view these Multimedia CDs
I will end the Post by saying that there are 3 Required Programs listed under Required Programs. I have 2:
    1. Internet Explorer version 6 or above
    2. Windows Media Player 9 or above (I have the one that says it is the latest for people with a Mac)
    3. Adobe Reader version 5.05 or above (I have Adobe Reader 8).
Thank in advance for any help, if there is any.

This is a very long and confusing post, to say the least
You may want to have a look at these articles to familiarize with your new Mac:
    http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/
    http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/
Regarding your more immediate problem, having a better idea of what you're trying to use is required before we can give you meaningful advice.
First of all, what is on the discs you are trying to use? If they are commercial discs, they must have a label of some kind that indicates what are are.
Then, when your insert a disc in your MacBook Pro's optical drive, what happens? Do you see a disc icon appear on your Desktop?

  • Window Media Player for Mac

Earlier (in the year) I asked why I could not play Windows Media Files on my MacBook. The answer I got was not satisfying and I feel I have not resolution to the problem.
Someone suggested Flip4 or something and it did not work at the time.
Also, I tried downloading Windows Media for Macs and that would not open on my Mac.
    Is there something I'm missing?
    Is it a lost cause?
I get .WMA or whatever files (home made movies from friends) who have PCs and I cannot watch them. I would like to be able to watch them.

I've used Flip4Mac pretty successfully. (It doesn't always work--I suspect there's .WMV files, and then there's .WMV files. They're mostly the same, but may have been made with differing codecs, and thus, flip might not be able to open that particular codec file.
I know this doesn't provide a workaround--but it's at least part of the answer.

  • How do I get WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER for Mac to work?!

I just purchased a mac for the first time and so far I love it except certain videos I try and download seem to require Windows Media Player which is no problem except for every time I download the Mac version it shows up as a Windows.stix file and is just a bunch of garbage it also says that the system doesn't know what to open it with. Basically, its not an installation application like the file should be. Everyone else I know has downloaded this file fine but my luck is not that goood. Does anyone know why this would be happening or could it just be my computer?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The SITX file has to be opened with http://www.stuffit.com/ 's Stuffit Expander.
Note Windows Media for Mac will not open DRMed videos. For that you need a copy of Windows to install on your Mac.
You may want to consider writing anyone who just has DRMed videos to make their videos more accessible by making them either available via Quicktime or Realplayer, reminding them Quicktime Broadcaster is free.

  • How do I download Windows Media Player for Mac?

I keep downloading it from the Microsoft website..and...it doesn't work. My husband bought a new MacBook (Leopard) and he's trying to figure out how to look at something on a website that gives him a link to download this. I helped him download Flip4 Mac...Windows Media Player 7.1 for Mac. Quicktime something-or-other. Windows STX 1,2,3 4, 5 and on...and...It still doesn't open. What am I doing wrong?

WMV's player application will work as a standalone application, but the browser plug-in will not work because it is not a universal binary. For that you will need to install Flip4Mac. The last Mac version of WMV is 9.0 and can be downloaded here. You will need an appropriate dearchiver such as Stuffit or The Unarchiver - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Be sure you properly uninstall whatever items you've previously installed. You should quit the browser before installing any of the above.
