Move photos from PC and MacBook to iPhoto 9.5.1 on new iMac

Hello,
I've just bought a new iMac, installed OSX 10.9.1 and updated iPhoto to version 9.5.1.
Prior to getting the iMac, my photos were stored some on a PC and some on a MacBook - for this reason, I didn't run the Migration Assistant as part of my Set Up process.  One of the major reasons for getting the iMac was to centralise all of my photos on one machine and with  1TB HD, I thought the iMac ideal. Unfortunately, I am now totally stumped as to how to move the photos from their different locations into iPhoto on the iMac:
I cannot now use Migration Assistant to get the photos from my old MacBook as it insists on setting up another user; I'm not 100% sure where all the photos are stored, even if I knew an alternative method of getting them off the MacBook and onto the iMac
Can I simply copy all my PC photos to e.g. a flash-drive or a separate hard-drive and then copy them to the iMac?  The PC photos are all in folders and sub-folders - will they become Events?
Is it even worth the effort or should I put the PC and MacBook photos onto DVDs and then start a new library on the iMac?
I am totally pi**ed of with the whole thing - I bought the iMac because I enjoyed the MacBook so much but I'm beginning to wish I'd gone for a PC where things are so much more transparent.
To use a quote I saw elsewhere on a Community discussion - "I drive a car but I'm not a mechanic" so I would really appreciate any advice or help anyone can offer.
Many thanks.

1. To move the Library from the other Mac;
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
The photos from the PC:

Yes.

  • How do I move photos from Time Machine backup to iPhoto in new Mac?

A friend has been backing up his very old Mac with an external drive.  I find lots of pages about move/copy TO external drive but need to find a correct way to move them from the backup drive to iPhoto on the new Mac.

You do not "move" files from a TM backiup - you restore tehm using the TM program - launch TM and go to the time you want to restore from, select the iPhoto library and click restore

  • How do I move Photos from PC to Macbook Pro

    Hello
Just purchased LR 2 and a new Macbook Pro.  After two weeks, glad I did it, but its about to give me Brain overload.  I've read 4-5 books and watched a dozen videos.
I just installed 2 Ext HDs and want to put my catalog, library on one Ext. HD and Backup on the next.  One of the reasons I havn't used LR 2 yet and reading all these books is, I want to set it right the first time, hoping it will give me few problems in the future.
I've searched these forums, but cannot find a question with my problem.  I'm now going from Lightroom on PC to lightroom on a Mac, or PSE to LR 2.
I'm going from a PC that has all my photos in the My Pictures folder.  Most are Jpegs, a few canon raw. (about 2,000 )
    My questions are
    1.  When I read to format the Ext HD's to the Macbook, I did and this cleared them out.  No folders or files.  Will LR 2 auto put a folder in each HD called lightroom photos or will I have to do that manually.  If I have to do it, since I'm new to Mac, how do I do that?
    2.  I have a third 500 GB Ext HD that I have my music on and I have about 100 gigs blank.  I can move my photos over to this drive on the PC and import them into the mac using LR 2?  Since I havn't started LR 2 yet, I read that I can hold down the "alt" key and the Mac, start LR 2, and it will ask me "where I want to put my catalog.  After I tell it the Ext HD, will it do everything automatic, or will I have to do more setup.
    Thanks in advance.
I hope I can get everything set up this week so that I can get back to taking pictures.

I did sync thro iTunes so will have to import them where i can find them...yuck
The synced photos should be in an album in the "Albums" tab of your iPod.
As long as you did not transfer  the synced photos to your computer do on no account activate "iCloud Photo Library Beta" on your iPad. That will wipe all synced photos from the iPad.
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.

  • How do I restore my iPhoto library from my old macbook (stored in time machine) to my new iMac?

I have my old macbook backed up on my time machine.  The problem is, when i enter time machine on my new iMac, I can only restore files from the current iMac's backups.  I can go to finder, and find my files under the "shared>airport time capsule" menu, but I don't know how to safely and accurately restore the iPhoto library to the current iMac's iPhoto.
Most of the searches I did on this topic kept advising to enter time machine, find your file and hit restore, but I can not select files from my macbook's backup in time machine on the current iMac.

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user Library folder, first select a snapshot, then press shift-command-G. A Go to Folder dialog will open. In it, you'll enter the path to the folder. The dialog will help you by automatically completing the parts of the path when you start to type them.
The path begins with slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts will be separated by slashes.
The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a "2", and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right-arrow key to jump to the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next part.
Next is the name of the volume (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you gave it a different name.) Start to type that, then jump to the end and enter a slash.
The next part is "Users", followed by a slash.
Next is your (short) user name, which is also the name of your home folder.
Finally, enter "Library", then press return. You should now be in the Library folder. From there you can get around as in the Finder.
This seemed to do the trick.  I found the iPhoto library file and chose restore.  The question now is where to put the iPhoto library file.

  • Move photo from message and add to contacts

A friend sent a photo as a text message, now I would like to add it to her contact information.  I saved it to the "saved file  in the text message  app, but still can't see how to move it to the contact photo.  When I open the contact  edit screen and choose the blank photo, it gives me only two choices, Camera or Photos. I choose photos but I can't find the "saved text message photo on my TREO 680.
The other choice is to "add to contact" which creates a new contact and then I would have to move all her information over.  I would think there would be a simpler way.
    Any hints?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (AT&T)

Those two fields should not be flashing. Do they flash on every contact?
Also if you turn on Airplane mode does it still flash?

  • How do i move photos from my iphone to my new macbook

How do I get the photos from my old macbook stored on my iphone, into my new macbook?

YOu need to move  from your old MB not your iphone
Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

Is there any way to retrieve photos that were put in the trash can and then it was emptied?  Or is there a way to move photos from an imovie to iphoto?

If you've emptied the trash, ehtn no. However if you have a backup, like Time Machine, or a recent backup copy of your photo library you could recover the photos from the trash.
The answer to getting a snapshot form iMovie depends on what version you have.
I should add it technically may be possible to recover the emptied trash, but if you really want to do that you would need to download a utility software that can attempt to recover deleted files. Do it soon before you start writing more data to that disk. At the moment I don't have a recommendation for such a program. Maybe someone else out there will offer suggestion.

Don't do that - flag the photo and go to the target event and use the add flagged photo to selected event command to move it intact within iPhoto

  • Move photos from iPhoto to iPad NOT using iTunes

I need to move photos from iPhoto (MacBook Pro) to a friend's iPad.  Can't use iTunes as it reconfigures her pad sync to my Mac from her computer (a windows machine at her office) and changes everything on her pad.  Tried an app called "Wondershare TransPod for Mac". It didn't recognize the pad (iPad Mini iOS 6.1.2).  Any suggestions??

This has nothing to do with iPhoto for the Mac except a shared PhotoStream - http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ - could do it if you both have the correct hardware and software - otherwise post in the iPad forum -
