Move pictures to Aperture library

First, let me say that if this question has been previously answered, then my apologies. However, here is my problem.
I have imported 200 pictures, that I have edited and placed in stacks. But now I see that under the import, the pictures where placed in the pictures folder, not in my Aperture library as I wanted.
Is it possible to move these pictures to the Aperture library without loosing my stacks and my changes?
I have the lastest vertion of Aperture

If you imported images and did not choose to reference them and leave the masters where they were, these masters are in the library. It sounds like they were placed in an untitled folder. You can re-name the folder to whatever you like.

For just a few export them out of Library A via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original and import them into Library B.
However, this will not include any edits or metadata (keywords, titles, etc.) that you've added.
To get the original image, any edits and all metadata, keywords, titles, descriptions, places, etc., you'll need the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.  It can copy albums or events from one library to another and keep those items I mentioned earlier with the photos.

  • Private pictures within Aperture library

    Hello
I'm using Aperture as my photo mgmt app of choice on my Mac Mini which serves as my entertainment center, along with iTunes and a few other apps.
Among the over 6000 pix I have in my Aperture library, some of them are charm pictures which I would rather protect from unauthorized eye balls. Yet I don't want to simply shut down access to my whole library, nor do I feel like using a separate library for those pictures. In my dreams, the ideal solution would be
    * that each picture has a "privacy" flag which can be toggled through right clicking.
    * If a picture has its privacy flag on, a generic icon would show instead of its thumbnail, and viewing the picture would require that you enter a privacy password.
    * Once the pwd entered, the private viewing session would last X minutes.
    * It would also be possible to mark a whole project as private so any picture in it would be private.
I know that very feature doesn't exist and I guess pros don't have much use for it, but regular folks like me who use Aperture because of its superior editing power would definitely have a use for such a feature.
Does anyone know of some other way to restrict access to some pictures within a library?
    Thanks

  • Move (or access) Aperture library to new mac from other mac (over the air)

I had Aperture 1.5.6 on my iMac. I upgraded to snow leopard and now Aperture will not work. Apple says the old version does not work with the new. Now I cant get to any of my pics. So I loaded my copy of Aperture on my Macbook air which still has leopard. No probs with the install but I cant move my library. I can see the Aperture library file on the iMac over the air from my macbook. I want to either import over the air or access over the air. I tried to chance the location of the library in aperture on my MBA but when I drilled down to the library on my iMac it said "not writable". I "got info" to make sure my MBA had read and write permissions for all the files on my Imac (and it does) but still no joy. Any help?
    Matt

You can't access it "over the air." Aperture cannot edit a library over a network share point.
Copy the library to the MacBook Air and you can use it from there.

  • How do I move pictures from iphoto library to my desktop so I can these use them to sell on ebay?

I recently moved pictures from my ipad to my iphoto library on my Macbook Pro computer. I want to now use these photos to sell on EBay. What are the steps I need to do to move these from one place to the other. This needs to be in laymans terms as my husband and I are new to this. Thanks for help.

Put the photos in an iPhoto album.  Use the File ➙ Export ➙ File export menu option and export them to a folder on the Desktop.  From there you can upload them to Ebay via your browser.

  • What is the best way to move an aperture library from one full drive to an external drive?

Just want to make sure I move my existing Aperture library on my internal drive (which is full) correctly to an external drive that has plenty of space.
    Thanks for the help!

As I use a MBP with limited internal drive space, my approach is to have the image files on an external drive, while leaving the library itself on my internal drive. The library takes up about 80GB while the images are closer to 1TB.
The library always contains 'Thumbnails' of the images which it shows in place of the disconnected image files.
This means I can still open the library even when the external drive is not attached, and I can still do keywording and rating and organising and so on.
I also maintain 'Previews' for my best images. Previews are like thumbnails but larger in size and can be shared with other apps, so I can still use and share these copies of the images, again even while the external drive is not attached.
I don't like the idea of having the actual library on an external drive connected to a laptop (although I have done so from time to time without issue). There's always a chance it can become accidentially disconnected (kids, pets, etc) and if this happens while using Aperture it can corrupt your library. A corrupted library can be repaired with Apertures first aid tools, but it's better to avoid it in the frist place when you can.

  • How can I get my aperture library exported to iphoto?

Can anyone specifically tell me how to move pictures from aperture to iphoto? Thanks!

You can't import an entire actual Aperture library file into iPhoto.
But you can always create an album with all the images you want to export, select File>Export Versions and then export them to a folder where you can then import them from within iPhoto. You'll be making duplicates (just so you'll know that it will take up some additional disk space.)
If you have some sort of structure you want, you could do this with multiple albums so that iPhoto imports them as individual rolls.

  • My MacBook Pro hard drive is almost full and I wish to store my Aperture Library on an external drive, how do I do this and is the use of USB2 suitable or do I need to use a Firewire external hard drive?

My MacBook Pro hard drive is almost full and I wish to store my Aperture Library on an external drive, how do I do this and is the use of USB2 suitable or do I need to use a Firewire external hard drive?

You'll get better performance if you use a Firewire hard drive (especially if you buy a 7200 RPM drive). Firewire's IO speed is significantly faster than USB 2.  USB 2 has a theoretical max speed of 480 Mbps except that it has extremely high over-head.   The fastest speeds you can typically get are about 300 Mbps.   Firewire, on the other hand, has very little overhead.  The fastest speeds you can get are very nearly 800 Mbps.  You will typically be constrained by the maximum read/write speed of the drive, not the speed of the I/O on the Firewire bus.  Now if you had one of those nice shiny new Macs with the Thunderbolt I/O and a Thunderbolt drive (Light Peak) ... I think they alter space and time so that your data arrives before you know you want it.
Also... unless you want to buy a solid state drive (very expensive), try to keep your hard drives from becoming much more than about 60% full if you want great performance.  A nearly "full" hard drive is, on average, only about half as fast as the same hard drive when nearly empty.
USB 2 will work perfectly fine... just not as fast.
Also... it's much safer to move the entire Aperture library than to "relocate masters".  Your images must be managed.  You can Aperture manage them, or you can manage them.  But someone has to manage them.  If you "relocate" them so that they are no longer stored inside the Aperture library then you'll need to work out a system of how you decide to organize things and it's critically important that you don't start moving files around or deleting things without Aperture's knowledge.  If you do, you'll break the links to your masters and start having problems with missing masters.  If you have Aperture manage the library then you don't need to worry about any of that stuff.... it's safer.
Do make backups (use the Aperture Vault or use some other backup program, but make sure you back up your work if you care about it.)  There are only two kinds of hard drives in the world:  (1) those that have failed and (2) those that are going to fail.  There are no exceptions to this rule.  Hard drives are cheap.  Backup software is built into Aperture and into your Mac.

  • Move Photos from one Library to another

How can I move pictures from one library to another in Iphoto 11 ?

    1. Export from one, import to the other. Though you will not get all the versions if you do this. You also need to be sure to sue the options in the Expor dialogue to write all the metadata to the files or that won't come over. Note there is no way to export Faces data.
    2. Use iPhoto Library Manager to move the files and all versions and all metadata - including Faces - between libraries. However this hasn't been fully updated for iPhoto 11 so you'll need to wait a few days.

  • How do I move projects from aperture to create space and keep images on external hard drive

How do I move projects from my iMac aperture 3 to an external hard disk so I keep all originals and create space on my iMac

Do you want to move your complete Aperture library to an external volume or only selected projects?
Get yourself an external drive that is formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled) and connect it to a fast port, Thunderbolt, USB 3, for example.
As a precaution repair your Aperture library using the Aperture Library First Aid Tools (Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual) and make a current backup, before you proceed.
To move all projects to that drive simply drag your Aperture library to the external drive. Then click it in the Finder to launch Aperture on the new library and test it thoroughly, before you delete the old library.
To move selected projects to the new drive, select the projects in Aperture and use the command "FIle > Relocate originals" and select a folder on the external drive as the destination in the File Chooser. See: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images

  • Aperture library to Windows 7

Argh....My wife wants me to move my iMac Aperture library to a Windows 7 laptop and I do not have a clue how to start or whether it is indeed possible,
if that is the case am I a prisoner to Aperture?
I am a new to aperture so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers and TIA.
    Mike from Vancouver

There is no Windows version of Aperture. So, all you can move over to a Windows laptop will be the image files. Do you have many adjustments and captions, etc. that you need to save? To transfer your images over, get yourself a drive, that is formatted in a way that both MacOS X and Windows can read and write, for example MS-DOS (FAT)
Select all images in the browser in Aperture and use the command "File > Export > Versions" to export all edited versions.
Also "File > Export > Originals" to export all original image files.
Use Export presets, that will give you the highest quality possible to preserve the quality of your images. Also use a subfolder format, that will allow you to reconstruct your Aperture library in any Windows image library program you will want to use.

  • Aperture Library movement

I need to move my Aperture library to another internal drive due to space considerations. Looked over this forum. I did move the library and redirect Aperture, rebooted, but I see that all the raw files of "projects" are still in my Pictures part of operating system drive - same as original Aperture library. And that's what most of the file space is used up by -raws. When I move these to the new library, they do not seem accessible - I get the warning icon which i think means i'm only seeing a thumbnail.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,

    HI Robert
you need to brush up on the difference between the two workflows, managed and referenced, see
    http://www.apple.com/au/aperture/tutorials/
    http://photo.rwboyer.com/
At this stage you are wanting to either "Relocate Masters for Project" or "Consolidate Masters for Project".
One moves the files and they remain referenced, the other will bring the files into a managed environment within your Aperture library.

    lyssalou,
what is your Aperture version and what is your MacOS X version?
What happened, before this problem occurred? Did you import images, install software, move the Aperture library?
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the library....Help!!
What do you mean by reinstalling the library? Did you reinstall Aperture?
You might start the trouble shooting with using the Aperture Library First Aid Tools - repairing the permissions, repairing the library, and rebuilding, if necessary, see:
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
Before rebuilding the library, make a backup of the Aperture Library, if you do not have one.

You’re running an outdated copy of Safari on your Desktop. That won’t work.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Check that the Safari application is in that folder. If it is, use it, and delete the copy on your Desktop. Never move or copy built-in applications.
If you've deleted Safari from the Applications folder, back up all data, then reinstall OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
