Move playhead by using scroll wheel

Is there a way I can move the playhead with my mouse scroll wheel?
I can scroll horizontally through my timeline, but that is not what I need.
I want to move the playhead every scroll-'click' by 15 frames for example.
Pinnacle Studio had that feature, worked really fast.

Given the scrolling function of the sequence, I'm not sure how it could.
A modifier key, maybe.  You can always ask.

(Be sure to also ask them to reverse the Program Monitor scroll so down goes forward, like it should.)

  • "Zoom using scroll wheel while holding" is broken

    Hello,
Since updating to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion this morning, the "Zoom using scroll wheel while holding" feature is broken.
In the mouse control panel the checkbox for "Zoom using scroll wheel while holding" is definitely checked. The default Control ^ key is selected. I verified I'm hitting the correct key on the keyboard using the keyboard viewer.
I've tried using this with 2 finger scrolling on my trackpack as well. I've also tried turning off most of the trackpack geustures.
I tried searching these forums prior to posting and found replies telling people with various different situations to turn this feature off. I want it on. I use it constantly.
    I have a MacBook Pro Aluminum 13-Inch Mid 2010
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A511)
    Any advise would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

Hello. Original poster here. I can confirm a few things after observing for a few days and trying stuff.
    1) The Universal access fixes did nothing. I set & reset those settings til I was blue in the face.
    2) I tried a "Repair Permissions" with the Disk Utility. No luck.
    3) It works intermitently. After sleeping sometimes it works. After plugging into my external monitor sometimes it works on the external monitor but then if I unplug it won't work again. After a reboot somtimes it works, then after sleeping stops working. Kinda strange. When it works it works from both my external USB mouse and the trackpad, so I don't think it's the hardware.
I don't have Time Machine configured - been using Carbonite, but they're not compatible with Lion so might have to get Time Machine running anyway - but it's not a fix per se, since this oughta work all the time.

  • Increments Of 100 With Grad Filter and Adj Brush Using Scroll Wheel and Arrows

For Vista 64 bit and Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT driver version 7.15.11.6960,
both the graduated filter and adjustment brush change at increments of 100 or 200 using the scroll wheel or arrows for everything except exposure. Brightness goes from -200 to 0 to 200 while the others go from -100 to 0 to 100.

Seen that as well. Keyboard focus has been an issue for me on Vista x64 OS for quite sometime.Sometimes the arrows don't move in even increments on all the sliders for various adjustments.
In this case the arrow keys move either side of 0 to the maximum exent of the range. In this case brightness has a range of + or - 200 while the other sliders move = or - 100

  • Using scroll wheel to zoom timeline

I would like to do zooming with the scroll wheel, rather than taking my hand off the mouse to do CMD+/- or having to move my pointer away from the timeline and use the scroll widget at the bottom of the screen.  Can someone tell me if there's any way to assign zooming to the scroll wheel?

I don't know about a scroll wheel, and maybe this is not what you expected to hear, but you should try a trackpad. Zooming in and out, moving the timeline left or right, and more, are so easily done with gestures that are common to most mac applications. The trackpad in mac laptops, and the Magic Trackpad, are to me far more effective and ergonomic than any mouse.
Edit: Oh - and you already have it! (your profile says Macbook Air...)

  • Use scroll wheel to zoom on Mac OSX?

    Hi,
I have recently switched to a Macbook from Windows. On Windows (if I remember correctly) you could zoom in and out by pressing "Control" and the using the scroll wheel on the mouse. It seems this is not working on the Macbook. Is there a way to enable this? I know you can use the pinch gestures on the track pad but I much prefer the scroll wheel.

If you mean by clicking on the arrow, bringing up the actual slider.  No, that doesn't work.  I've tried clicking various parts of the slider itself to no avail.
Have tried on numerous different adjustments, labels, filters in case that it only works on some.

  • XFCE's mixer plugin stops at 90% when using scroll wheel over icon

Yeah, title says it.  By putting the cursor over the icon and using the scroll wheel, the volume goes up to 90%.  But when I open the mixer and drag the master slider, it goes to 100%.  How do I fix this?

Had the same Problem, was really annoying me. Probably a baaad baad bad workaround:
    in src/xfce4-mixer-4.6.0/panel-plugin (ABS / xfce4-mixer)
    changed xfce-volume-button.c, line 204 & 205:
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    to
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.1, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    rebuild, done.
I've been searching for a while for the real problem, but I'm no programmer. Looks as if somewhere someone perhaps startet counting at 1% instead of 0% or something, but I've got no idea where.
(useless EDIT: Seems as if someone already fixed it in the newest version available in ABS since I changed it on my machine. Wait, trying...
EDIT: Nope, still only works up to 90% in current ABS version I think - might have just forgotten to re-extract the source of the panel after update. Redoing the "bad fix" got it to 100% again though.)

  • Can't Use Scroll Wheel to Turn Pages

How do I get iBooks to use the scroll wheel on my Logitech mouse to turn pages in iBooks. Seems like it should be an option but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. It's getting frustrating.

So, after 24 hours there are still no responses so I'm going to say that the answer to my question is: "No, you cannot use the scroll wheel on your mouse to navigate in iBooks for the Mac." I'm picking this as the best answer and will be sending feedback to Apple about this issue. At least now when someone does a web search on this, they'll have an answer.
Go to this link and send feedback to Apple if you'd like this odd behavior changed:

  • Scrolling using Scroll Wheel in Adobe Illustrator

In Adobe Illustrator CS5 I was able to scroll left and right in a document by holding Command and moving the scroll wheel on my mouse. In CS6 I find that holding Command does not toggle the scrolling direction as it had previously done. Holding shift will allow me to scroll horizontally, but moves a whole page at a time instead of giving me the fine-grained control I had before. Is this a bug on my system or is there a reason this behavior was changed? This YouTube tutorial leads me to believe scrolling in CS6 is supposed to work just like it did in CS5.

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Er, your point being?
Seems you have a lot to learn.

  • OS10.5.8's lost ability to scroll horizontally using scroll wheel & shift key.

I wonder whether somebody can tell me how I can reinstate my OS10.5.8's ability to scroll horizontally using my mouse's scroll wheel and the shift key.

    Dear Japamac,
    Thanks for this:
    > Repair the hard drive using Disk Utility?
My Disk Utility says there are no errors.
    > Reset the PRAM?
In a few days' time I'm due to get help at the Genius Bar of an Apple shop. I'll ask the technician about PRAM.
    > The function wasn't removed in 10.5.8.......
I gather that your OS10.5.8 with PowerPC allows you to scroll horizontally with your mouse's scroll wheel and the shift key.
As I implied in my words "reinstate my OS10.5.8's ability", I was able to use the horizontal-scroll-with-wheel-and-shift trick for a long time after I installed OS10.5.8 (that was in the middle of 2009).
I'll see whether the Genius Bar can reinstate the trick for me.
    Thanks for your ideas, Japamac.

  • Safari crash in Acrord32 when use scroll wheel while PDF loading

Whenever I download a PDF (in browser), Safari 4 crashes in Acrord32 if I use the scroll wheel on my mouse while the PDF is still loading.
This seems to often happen to me as I impatiently want to start browsing the PDF without waiting for it to finish loading completely.
This happens for me on two completely different systems - one XP, one Vista.
Using latest version of Acrobat Reader (9), and in both 4 and 4.02 of Safari for Windows.
Mostly I get a "this program needs to close" type message from Windows, and clicking on details show Acrord32 as the problem. However sometimes Safari just freezes using 95% CPU, or occasionally the program just disappears.
    Anyone else seen this behaviour?

Yes, I see it too with the same exact combination of Safari and Adobe Reader.

  • Crash bug in Premiere when editing Marker descriptions and using scroll wheel

So I've noticed a really particular bug:
If I go to edit a Marker description in the Markers panel, and I add some text, then move the scroll wheel of my mouse, the program immediately crashes, with these errors:
    "[/caravan/releases/2014.09/PremierePro/UIFramework/Src/HotTimecodeControl.cpp-203]"
    "[/caravan/releases/2014.09/PremierePro/UIFramework/Src/InlineEditText.cpp-140]"
Then it has the standard: "Sorry, Premiere has to shut down. It will try to save your project" - But it never does make a recovery.
    More details:
This happens when the cursor is still active in the description box. If I've clicked out of the description box, everything works normally.
It only happens in the Markers panel, not in the individual Marker dialog box
It only happens after new text has been typed in or pasted in.
It doesn't happen with the Name box
It happens immediately upon touching the scroll wheel, even if it's just a nudge (in either direction)
It happens in every sequence I've tried it in
    Tech specs:
    Premiere CC 2014 (version 2014.1)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011), OSX Yosemite 10.10.1, 2.2 GHz clockspeed, 8GB RAM
Wireless Logitech Mouse (the Anywhere MX) (with Logitech wireless keyboard)
Not a single mouse issue before!
Anyone know if there's a patch or a workaround for this? I know it's specific enough of a problem to avoid, but I work with markers a lot and the scroll wheel on this mouse is sensitive, so can get easily nudged and thus instantly muck up all the work I've done since the last save...
    Thanks for your help!

Then it has the standard: "Sorry, Premiere has to shut down. It will try to save your project" - But it never does make a recovery.
No promises, but this bug has been marked as fixed in the upcoming version of Premiere Pro. Sorry for all the frustration this has introduced.
Anyone know if there's a patch or a workaround for this?
The workaround listed is, "always remember to exit the control by clicking outside it or tabbing to the neighboring box before scrolling."
Hopefully, the upcoming fix will be done to your satisfaction.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Use scroll wheel to adjust sliders

Would like to adjust sliders via mouse scroll wheel.  I've tried on a variety of sliders and none seem to work
Yes I've found keys to adjust, but would prefer not to remove hand from mouse so often.
    Win 7
    Photoshop CC 2014 32bit
    Logitech mouse

  • Using scroll wheel with modifier key to zoom out is not working

I can't zoom out with the magnifying tool selected in all programs of the CS3 suite using the option key on a Mac. I can zoom in with no problem. I've been trying to figure this out for "8 hours" now!!!
I do have this checked in the system preferences and Photoshop preferences. I don't think this is considered a keyboard shortcut but I do have universal access checked and zoom out checked in the system preferences.
I searched this site and all of the internet looking for answers but can't seem to find much. I appreciate any help you can give. I'm way behind on my work today.
    Thank you!

The default key for scrolling zoom is not Command but Control. To change this, go to System Preferences —> Universal Access and click on the Seeing tab. In the Zoom pane, click on the Options button, and in the sheet that drops down, select the text box at the bottom, highlight the character there, then press the modifier key you prefer.

  • Zoom:Use Scroll wheel with Modifier Keys to Zoom

Help! Since the 10.6 update from 10.4.11, I can no longer zoom in and out by holding Command while moving scroll ring on my Kensington Expert Mouse. I have tried other modifier keys to no avail.
I suspect a conflict, but do not know where to fix it. When in Firefox 3.5.2., Command plus scroll ring zooms the active window nicely. Any ideas or should I provide feedback to Apple or both? Thanks! DJ

  • How can I set firefox to stack my tabs one after the other so that I do not have to move through tabs using the buttons at the ends

when I open multiple tabs which do not fit the tab strip I have to move through tabs using scroll buttons. is there any way way I can stack the tabs on each other or suggest me a add-on which can help me achieve this

You can consider to access the tabs via the list all tabs button.
You see the "List All Tabs" button in current Firefox versions if there are that many tabs open that you get the Tab bar scroll buttons appearing.
    * Permanent List-all-tabs Button: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/permanent-listalltabs/
The Custom Tab Width extension adds CSS rules to adjust the tab width settings as set by the browser.tabs.tabMinWidth and browser.tabs.tabMaxWidth prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    * Custom Tab Width: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-tab-width/
You can achieve the same with code in userChrome.css.
The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #tabbrowser-tabs ~ #alltabs-button { visibility:visible!important; }
    .tabbrowser-tab[fadein]:not([pinned]) { min-width: 100px !important; max-width: 250px !important; }
    </nowiki></pre>
