Move PSE6 catalog from XP to new computer Windows 7

Help!  I have a new computer with Windows 7 installed.  The store I purchased it from did a data transfer for me so the "My Pictures" folder was moved into the new computer.  I just downloaded the PSE6 program again as programs were not moved.
Now what do I do??  I have an External Hard Drive connected to the old computer and had made a full and 3 incremental backups through PSE6.  (I have 127gb of photos as shoot in raw).
I have read some info on this site so am confused..... should I delete the "My Pictures" (all the photos) from the new computer first?
I have an External hard drive connected to the old computer.  Should I do a FULL backup and send it to that External HD then plug that into the new computer and download from that?
Would appreciate your help (in simple precise terms - not very computer literate! ) as I don't want to lose my Catalog as it has a lot of collections.
Thank you!

First make sure you've got a precise record of what your key is and who it's registered to. (I usually just print out a screenshot of the existing "Register" tab in my QuickTime preferences.)
Now on the old PC, go into your QuickTime control panel. In the "Register" tab, clear the key from the QuickTime Registration section and click OK.
Now on the new PC, reenter those details in the "Register" tab and click OK.

  • New Computer - How do I move my library from Old to New Computer?

    Hi,
I bought a new computer and want to transfer all my music from the old one to the new one.
This is what I did so far:
Copied the entire iTunes directory from my old computer into an external hard drive.
Then loaded the entire iTunes folder from the hard Drive to the existing iTunes directory in the new Laptop.
Now, none of the songs showed up in my iTunes Library screen.
So I had to basically drag them from windows explorer into the iTunes Library screen. However, none of the album artwork, or ratings, etc, are there (i copied all those files from old to new computer as they were in the original directories in my old computer, I think)... It looks like i'll have to do all that work again!
Is there a way to do this one shot??
    Thanks!
    RJ.

Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, select Choose Library, and navigate to the folder you copied.

  • Transfering catalog from PSE9 to new computer

I have read how to tranfer the catalog to a new computer.  Is it also true that the albums would also be transferred when backing up the catalog and restoring it to the new comoputer?  Since the catalog references the previous image files in the original computer where do you put the image files on the new computer(Windows 7)?  The image files on the original computer were stored in the my pictures folder in the document directory.  I am assuming that the images should be put in the Windows 7 pictures folder.  Is that correct?  Also, what do you do about the xmp files?

I have read how to tranfer the catalog to a new computer
Please tell us what you read so we can be sure we have the same understanding.
Is it also true that the albums would also be transferred when backing up the catalog and restoring it to the new comoputer?
Yes, if you do it properly.
Since the catalog references the previous image files in the original computer where do you put the image files on the new computer(Windows 7)?
Well that depends on my comment earlier. If you are using the PSE Organizer commands File->Backup Catalog followed by (on the new computer) File->Restore Catalog, you can tell PSE to put the photos anywhere you want. (By the way, since your question is "where do you put...", let me say that YOU don't put the photos anywhere, PSE puts the photos where you tell it to put them. "YOU" are not moving the photos yourself. I realize this is a minor point and comes up perhaps because of your choice of words, but I want this to be clear.)
The image files on the original computer were stored in the my pictures folder in the document directory.  I am assuming that the images should be put in the Windows 7 pictures folder.
If you are using the PSE Organizer commands File->Backup Catalog  followed by (on the new computer) File->Restore Catalog, you can tell  PSE to put the photos anywhere you want. Oh, but I said that already.
Also, what do you do about the xmp files?
If you are using the PSE Organizer commands File->Backup Catalog  followed by (on the new computer) File->Restore Catalog, then PSE will handle this for you. Advice: if you let PSE manage your photos, you never ever ever have to worry about the xmp files, because PSE takes care of that for you.

  • How do I move PS CS6 from old to new computer?

I am getting a new computer specifically for photo editing.  I have Photoshop Extended CS6 Student Teacher Ed, Windows 7.  I would like to know how to move my software to the new computer without purchasing it again.  I do still have my product code, redemption code, and serial number.
    Thank you

You may have CS6 activated on two computers at any one time. Load it onto your new computer using the discs or from here: Download CS6 products. Now enter your serial number. Now go to Help>Deactivate on your old system to free up that activation.
And here is the latest update for CS6: Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop 13.0.1.3 update for CS6. Apply this after installing.

  • I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?  Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

  • How do I move elements 9 from my old xp computer to my new windows 8 computer?

How do I move element 9 from my old xp computer to my new windows 8 computer?

If you have an installation disc for Elements 9, then I would suggest that you uninstall Elements 9 from your old computer, de-activate during the uninstallation. On Windows 8 computer, insert the disc and install Elements 9, activate it during installation. However, it is not tested, according to this document from Adobe: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4527508. Let me know how it goes.

  • What is the name of the folders which are your backup of Itunes library? I am recovering from a virus, have no workable desktop in Win XP, but can search and find files and folders. I would like to move these backup files to a new computer

what is the name of the folders which are the backup of Itunes library? I am recovering from a virus, have no workable desktop in Win XP, but can search and find files and folders. I would like to move these backup files to a new computer, authorize it and sync with Iphone 3Gs and Ipod 5th gen.
    I

I second the whole iTunes folder approach.
If for some reason you have split the media folder from the library files then the media folder needs to restored to the same path it used to have while the library files can be copied into the music folder of your new profile.
If in dobut, backup up the entire Documents and Settings folder before wiping the infected drive, but be selective about what you restore as many viruses drop active components capable of reinfecting the compuer in the temp folders and internet caches. It is much easier to backup more than you need than to discover after the fact that you no longer have access to some vital project you'd been storing in a folder on the desktop.

  • Transferring music and movies from ipod to new computer

ive tried free programs that end having to be paid for which i cant do and i cant seem to figure out how to get unpurchased music and movies off my ipod onto a new computer.keep in mind i dont have my old hard drive with my music on it hooked up.can anybody help pleaseeeee?

For all non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • I want to move my itunes library to a new computer

i want to move my itunes library to a new computer

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
