Move quickly along timeline

How do I move quickly along timeline if I am at the end of a long clip and want to start viewing at or near the beginning, or vice versa?
Scrolling seems to make the program crash.  In a different - but awful - editing program, I was able to double-click anywhere along the timeline and the cursor (or whatever you call that red line) would jump over and start playing at the start of the clip I clicked.  That was an easy way to move quickly through lots of footage without hearing the soundtrack play backwards, etc.
Right now I'm practicing with a short video but soon will be working on a long video where I'm editing and joining several days worth of clips of varying sizes and file types.
Also, how do I edit specific volume points in the timeline?  The instructions seem clear about changing volume as a whole, but the fade out option doesn't fade out sufficiently and there will be times when i want to change the volume of just a few seconds of footage.
Thanks,
A

You can quickly get to any point on your timeline in a number of ways. The easiest way to get to the beginning is to press the Home key.
You can also drag the CTI (playhead), use the speed scrubber slider on the Monitor panel or click on the timecode displayed on the Monitor panel and type in the exact place on the timeline you want to go.
Editing the volume at specific points on your timeline is best handled with keyframing. With keyframing, you add keyframe points to your timeline representing specific effects settings or audio levels, placing the keyframes higher or lower as needed.
There is some information on audio keyframing in the Help files, but I also cover it in depth in my books.

    Are you working from the 12.1 Update of 12? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update.
    I have the actual Update on the Computer. After I installed it about two month ago, I updated it over th Updatebutton and Premiere says to me, that I have the latest Version. My Version is 12.1 (620140 225.12.1.620828).
    What is the size of the project when the Timeline playback is not possible? Is this event associated with any particular
    added effect, title creation, or video or audio transition placement?
    What do you mean with the size of the project? If you mean the size of the videoscreensize, I can give the information, that it is a Full HD Video.
    If you mean the size of the Projectdata, it is 994 Kb.
    In this project a keymask (4 points) is used, that a video from another track is visible with the mainvideo on Track one. And there are two faders in the video, thats all. No titles and so on.
    Where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location?
    Did you install the program to the default Local Disk C?
    Do you mean with Scratchdisks the path to the Cache? If so, I tried different pathes. On both Disks are 700 GB free space, butit did not make a difference. I emptied the cache, schanged the pathes, emptied again, but the result was the same. No reaction.
    I installed Premiere into the default given path during the installation. And that was c:\Program Files (x86).
    Video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    For Device Manager/Display Adapters, is AMD Radeon HD5700 the only listing?
    Yes, the Videocard is up tp date, I compared my driver Version with the Version on the Website. It is the same . And there is only one Graphic Display in the Device Manager.
    When this event happens, how are you getting out of it so that you can move on in that opened project?
    I can use the program normal anyway. I can do everything I like, but I can not start the Video over the timeline. Even if I stop the program by leaving it over the regular menu, and doing a restart of the whole computer, the result is the same. The software runs, it loads all the sourcefiles, they are placed on the tmeline and I can do everthing, but not start the video on the timeline.

  • Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

    Why are iMovie events (2400 of them) shown in the iDVD movies pane along with my iMovie projects (12 of them)?

    Sorry about the delay in responding, I've been putting up with a very slow iDVD, but now I'm fed up with it again. My version of iDVD is 7.1.2 (1158) running in Mac OS X, version 10.6.8, with 3.2GHz and i3 processor, 4GB of memory, on a desktop iMac. My version of iMovie'11 is 9.0.4 (1634).
    I can stop iDVD from showing iMovie EVENTS (now 3247 of them) in its Media pane under Movies, by moving the iMovie Events folder from the iMovie folder ( that iDVD ALWAYS looks in) to somewhere else in that Directory (where I store all my data, and which I have named "browning").  But then iMovie can't display the EVENTS, because it is looking in the wrong place. So, how can I save iMovie Events in another folder (not iMovies) but somewhere where iMovie will find them?
    Is there a method to change the default folders for iMovie and/or iDVD? How does iMovie know where the iMovie default directory is?
    Should I put iMovie into the "Main" Mackintosh HD directory?
    The Apple Store in Bath, UK, couldn't help, but surely I'm not the only iDVD user who is annoyed with this process?

    You could switch to vi style command line editing.
    shopt -s -o vi  # can be put in your .bash_profile (or .bash_login (or .profile))
    but then you need to hit <ESC> to get into vi command mode, but once in command vi command mode, you can use 'e' to quickly move to the end of the next work.  Hitting the key repeatedly will quickly get you to the end of 0x0000
    But now you need to hit 'i' to get back into insert mode.
    I do realize that vi mode is not without its annoyances.
    You can also remap the emacs key bindings using the bash 'bind' command.
    bind '"\C-f"':forward-word  # which would find control-f to forward-word
    which might be easier than escape-f

  • Photoshop isn't letting me add an .mov to the timeline.

    I was editing an .mov file in Photoshop (I don't have sufficient OS for AfterEffects). All was going well, so saved the projects as a .psd file (which I'd learned from an online tutorial and which had never given me problems before) and took a break. When I tried to reopen it, the video won't play and there's a yellow exclamation mark next to the thumbnail in the layers palette. I tried opening a new file and adding the original .mov to the timeline, but got the message "Could not complete request because DynamicLink Media Server not available." Again, everything was going fine this morning. Any ideas please?

    Hi there, because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop General Discussion forum, where you'll get more specialized help.

  • Move keyframe events along timeline?

    I'm still figuring out the ins and outs of keyframing on FC, and have this question.
    I have a keys frame set at a certain points on the timeline as part of a video clip, and want to speed up or slow down one of the keyframed segments - is there a way just to "slide" a keyframe marker along the timeline to speed up/slow down the time interval without having delete and redo it?
    Thanks,

    Put the clip you want to work on in the Viewer window. If it's in the timeline, drag it up and drop it on the window.
    Clic on the MOTION tab in the Viewer and drag it away from the window (this 'tears' it off) Click on the VIDEO tap of the Viewer to put the video element of the clip in place.
    In the Motion bits, on the right side of the window is a timeline. the keyframes should be visable. If they aren't twirl down the triangles until you can see the various elements that make up a section (aka Time Remap).
    Using the Pen Tool or even the basic pointer tool (A from the keyboard) you can drag the keyframes to new positions.
    If you are asking about HOW TO DO A TIME REMAP, you need to read the manual as it does get quite involved.
    good luck.

  • Delay in reacting to keyboard navigation along timeline??

    Hi
    I have just replaced all parts of my system (between projects!) and I notice that the responsiveness of FCP to keyboard navigation along the timeline (J,K,L) seems to have dropped off - from frame-accurate, to about a 6-frame delay.
    That is: in my earlier (slower?) system: I could play along the timeline, and then stop DIRECTLY on a music beat - by hitting K - accurate to the EXACT frame - or maybe ONE frame out.
    Now: with my current (faster?) system, I behave the same, hitting K at the "correct time", but FCP carries on playing for about 6 frames before it stops, 6 frames after the point I wanted.
    (It also takes about 6 frames to start playing again after hitting L, but that's less of a problem.)
    Accurate editing to music, or placing markers, etc., etc., is now a considerable problem! Any suggestions?
    Old system = G4 Dual 1.42, FCP 5.1.2, OSX 10.4.11, 2G RAM - white USB keyboard

    fast. Is there a way to make it pause between cycles?
    var keyArray:Array = new Array();
    var i:Number;
    for(i=0;i<222;i++){
    keyArray.push([i,false]);
    stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN,checkKeysDown);
    stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP,checkKeysUp);
    this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,
    UpdateScreen);
    function UpdateScreen(event:Event):void{
    if(isKeyDown(39)==true){
    var StageTimeline:MovieClip = (stage.getChildAt(0) as
    MovieClip)
    StageTimeline.nextFrame();
    if(isKeyDown(37)==true){
    trace("Released");
    var StageTimeline:MovieClip = (stage.getChildAt(0) as
    MovieClip)
    StageTimeline.prevFrame();
    function checkKeysDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void{
    keyArray[event.keyCode][1]=true;
    function checkKeysUp(event:KeyboardEvent):void{
    keyArray[event.keyCode][1]=false;
    function isKeyDown(X){
    return keyArray[X][1];

  • Move: box in timeline

    Hoping someone can help. This is driving me nuts.
    Usually, to help sync audio I will select a couple of audio clips in the timeline and type something like "+3" which them moves the clip 3 frames.
    Sometimes, however, I will get this annoying little gray box- Move:00.00.00.00
    The only way to get back to my moving clips by frames is to save, quite, and reopen. I cannot figure out what that stupid box is for but it is really making me angry....
    Thanks!

    I should better explain. I do get the move box when I type +3 for example but it shows- move:__+ (i.e. it is empty except the + or - symbol).
    When I get that other box, it shows something like: Move:00:00:00:00 (i.e. it has time code in it). If I try hitting +3 it does no good and escape doesn't work. I think it is referencing the main timeline and not the select clip, but once it does that I cannot get it to do back to where I can just select and move a clip. (Short of closing the program)
    To get the stupid time code box, I am usually moving quickly, adjusting by + 1 or -1 to hear the difference in sync.
    Thanks

  • Trouble moving playhead along timeline

    Hi,
    I apologize if this questions has already been asked and answered. I tried searching through the Flash forum and was unable to find the answer I was looking for.
    I am very new to Flash and apologize for the simplicity of the question, but I am having trouble moving the playhead along the timeline in Flash. For example, when I open up a new Flash project, and start out with the initial layer with it’s single frame, I am having trouble moving the playhead forward to frame i.g. "75" or "80". My questions is, can I not move the playhead because I do not have content past frame one or can I not move the playhead because I have accidentally initiated a button or action that will only allow me to scrub my playhead through frames with content. On the off chance I had done this, I tried restarting Flash with the default settings with no success. Again, I realize this may be a very simple question and I am hoping the answer will be the same.

    when you're in the authoring environment, you need a frame to exist at 75 or 80 before you can move the play head there.  so, right click frame 75 and click insert frame or insert keyframe or insert blank keyframe.

  • Move clips from timeline to event sub folder?

    Aloha,
    Is there a way to move clips in the timeline that I have cleaned into a sub folder in an event library?
    I come from a non FCP background and still trying to wrap my mind/workflow around the FCP formula.  Generally I clean clips and drop "some" into a "to be used later" folder.
    Example - While on location I might shoot some location shots while im waiting around.  The locations shots will use in the last 3 mintues of a 25 minute finished project.  When I get to post I edit and clean all clips in the order they are received.  When I find the location clips I simply move them to a folder labled "to be used later".  When I get to the section of the project/timeline were the clips are needed I drag them or the entire folder into the timeline.
    I see how to make a folder inside an event but I am not able to drag a clips from the timeline to this created folder.  I have tryied to hold down Shift, CMD, OPT, CTRL and have no sucess.
    Thanks you for your time and help.

    Aloha Fox,
    Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.  I feel you really understood my concern and gave me some good viable options.
    There is a lot for me to learn and unlearn. I have been editing for over 16 years and most of that time I was using Edius. This is big paradigm shift coming to the Mac and FCPX.
    The idea for me is to edit the video and move the "to be used later clips" into a bin/folder instead of moving them to the location in the timeline were they will be used at that very moment.  Its just a preference, I know plenty folks would just move the clip to the location.  Edit software is just a tool I have to decide if FCPX is the right tool for me.
    Thank you again Fox for your time and understanding of my question.
    Be blessed,
    Frederick

  • Getting a general error message in FCE when putting .mov file onto timeline

    Putting a .mov film onto the timeline above a moving image so we see the mov file playing in a reduced size in the background of whats going on ( a window). Don't know why this is happening but any advice would be appreciated!
    We are really stuck so any help would be so appreciated!
    thanks.

    Its converted to an mpeg4 file but i think it may be the fact it is running at 30fps as oppose to the rest of the project which is 25fps. When I try to put it on the timeline it gives me the general error and then the footage which was on below it on timeline no longer exists. Very strange.

  • Can't move items in timeline PPCC

    When I attempt to move audio clips in my timeline, I'm finding that I'm not allowed to.  For example, audio 1 contains an audio clip.  Its placed in the middle of the timeline and I'm trying to sync it up to the video.  The timeline will not allow me to move this item unless I zoom all the way out.  Sometimes I have to try and drag it to create a new track before I can move it.  Half the time this doesn't work either.  Now, this is happening on all of my sequences and I have about 30 to do.
