Move Regions WITH automation data

Here's my predicament, i am trying to cut out and entire verse from the middle of a song. many regions, many tracks, all with automation data. no matter how i do it (whether i go track by track and delete the regions inbetween and move the later regions left, or if i highlight the section i want cut in the green bar at the top and click the split:cut in between markers button, the regions go where i want them to but the automation data does not move with them. is there an easier way to do this rather than having to reposition each automation grouping for each region one at a time?

*Logic Pro>Preferences>Automation,* top item. Sounds like you have it set to "never". Set it to Always or Ask .

  • "Move Current Track Automation Data to Region" doesn't work for all

I have been using the 'Move Current Track Automation Data to Region' and while it works fine for some types of automation data like channel volume, pan and some plugin parameters, it doesn't work for all of them.
I haven't done exhaustive research into which parameters work and which don't, but most of the parameters for individual voices within Ultrabeat don't - which is annoying as that is what I was trying to use it for.
Any ideas about this, or workarounds?

OK, well an update on this in case anyone's interested.
With some further experimentation I have discovered that this problem did not exist in Logic 7 - ie you can move current track automation data for individual Ultrabeat voices to the region.
It's also possible to move automation data for individual Ultrabeat voices using 'Move All Track Automation Data to Region,' so I suppose this is a kind of workaround, though it can be annoying if you don't want to move all track automation data.
I'm now assuming this is a bug in Logic 8; is there any way to convert a Logic 8 project to work in Logic 7, as this along with the touch tracks bug is making working in Logic 8 very frustrating?

  • Move regions with marqee tool while automation enabled

hi there, new here to the community, any help is appreciated.
with logic x i noticed that i am not able to select, grab and copy/paste a region while in automation view whith automation enabled for the particular track.
everytime i select a part of the region and then click on the upper part of it does not cut the region but selects it entirely.
it does work however if i disable automation for the particular track or switch out of automation view
since switching out of automation view often enough also means zooming out it's not really a suitable workaround.
with logic 9 i did this all the time and now it ist really disturbing my workflow.
so it seems like a bug.
    any help?
    am i missing something here?
    thanks a lot,

Moving automation around is very messy.
I would suggest using the feature ""Convert All Track Automation to region Data" (available under the automation menu", when doing big moves, I find it much more reliable. After the move, convert the region data back to automation.
Make you your regions extend over all the automation. You may need to enable hyper draw on audio file for this to work, I've never tried it on audio files.

  • Move Files with Automator or Applescript

I am a newbie to Applescript and Automator and I'm afraid I'm in way over my head.  I need to move a bunch of files in a single folder to several different folders based on the file name.  Is this possible?
Specifically, several files with names "word1 word2 word3 word4.pdf" are placed in a folder then they will be moved to different folders based on word4.
Ideally, if possible, I would then have to append to things to the file name.  At the beginning of the file name a three digit code based on word4 (or the folder) and then at the end of the file name a date stamp.  The date stamp should be in the form of four digit year, two digit month, and two digit day with no spaces in between.  Where, year is the year of current month -1, month is current month -1, and day is the last day of current month -1.
Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks!

your description is still underspecified, so this script probably won't work out-of-the-box, but it will get you close.

  • Find movie dimensions with Automator?

I need to go through 300+ mp4 files to determine if their dimensions are correct to be viewed on my AppleTV.
    Is there a way to:
    1. Point Automator to a directory of MP4 files
    2. Automator to inspect each file's dimension attribute
    3. Automator to compare the dimension value to a defined value (i.e. 640x480)
    4. Automator to provide a list of files whose dimensions are not correct
I cannot find a way to make Automator "look" at the dimension attribute of each file...but I am new to all of this...
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thank you!!

I've answered my own question.  It wasn't easy, but I finally found some content.  This site was useful for naming a number of "calibration" or "demonstration" disks, and some of those contain audio tracks encoded with various methods.  Some include on-screen speaker identification so you can map your system.
I was interested in 7.1 tracks encoded with LPCM, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA.
Unfortuantely I have not found a way to properly play ANY of these.  They all play, but I haven't found any software that produces 7.1 output.  In general the rear surrounds never get sent a signal, even though my Mac and my receiver both indicate that the "pipe" is open.
So far, Audio Midi Setup is the only app I've found that can talk to all 8 of my speakers.  But that alone is not very useful!

  • Best way to move region and track automation??

I want to be able to highlight a region (option copy it) and drag it with automation data. Instead of copy automation data one lane at a time to move it. Eg. I have my synth line in a 4 bar loop with 3 different parameters of automation and i want to move that 4 bar loop (copy and paste) to the next 4 bars and so on with all automation in place.
    Cheers!

If you enable hyperdraw on the region and zoom in enough you can see and edit the info. I often use hyper draw to draw in my automation in the first place. Saves me a step if I don't need to aactually perform the automation live with a controller.

  • How do I copy automation data on multiple aux tracks?

Hi. Can anybody tell me how I can move/copy/paste automation data that exists on multiple Aux tracks at the same time as I move/copy/paste midi and audio regions?
Currently I can move/copy/paste multiple midi and audio regions at the same time, and if they also have automation data with them this also gets moved/copied/pasted, BUT its the automation data on Aux tracks which doesnt.
e.g. If I use 'Select Inside Locators' and then alt/drag the regions, Logic refuses to select the automation data on any of my Aux tracks too- so these get left out and I have to manually select each one and copy and paste it by hand which takes ages and is very fiddley.
Does anybody know how to do this?
    Many thanks,
    Al.

ctrl-cmd-E does not work? And cmd-1 doesn't work either?
Let's hope then that alt-K works, because that is where you can set keycommands. Any of the presets in the dropdown menu top left contains the commands you need.
I just did it myself, to check it; every keycommand preset there is, contains both combo's I've given.
I have no idea if there's a menu item for the Automation Event list, I guess there should be since there's no • in front of it (• before a command meaning it has no menu item), but I cannot find it, and I don't even know if it works using menu items. cmd-1 should work, always, but it's also under Window>Arrange.

  • Automation data copied to another track?

I like the way I automated a track, and want to used that exact "volume" automation on the next track below in my arrange menu. Is there a way to copy/paste kind of process here to recreate this on another track?

Prior to Logic 7, Logic included an Automation Folder. This was basically an arrange page, that had all the automation in your song viewed as if they were audio or MIDI regions. You could easily option/drag automation from one track to another this way.
There is a way to it in version 7... read about it here:
    http://community.sonikmatter.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t21249.html
I have my automation folder available as a screenset.
Once set up, this is probably the quickest way to achieve what you're wanting. However, I have also used the method mentioned above, where you drag the region, and Logic asks if you want to copy it (as long as you have "Ask" selected in your Track Automation Preferences).
Then just delete the copied region, and tell Logic not to delete the automation data.
Do look into the automation folder though. It allows you to move and copy automation data, just like you do audio and MIDI regions.

  • Selecting all Automation data in a track.

I'm working on a complex mix and I want to select all automation data in a track.
I don't know the way. Can any guy to help me?

We can move all Volume automation data up or down, by holding pressed Alt key and Click-hold on first node. Then drag
    up or down.

  • Insert or Cut Time and move automation data - how to do it?

Hi when I cut or insert time it moves the regions but not the automation data. I have tried switching nn 'move automation with regions' but it doesn't move the automation that goes past the end f regions eg plug in settings like delay feedbacks etc.
    a) this seems to me to be really crazy - why if you had done a lot of detailed automation programming at the end of a song would you not want it to move if you cut 4 bars from earlier on in the song?
    any ideas appreciated very much!!

after using logic for years I have discovered a new bit and something very weird.
    New Bit:
As well as Cut/Insert Time in the Region Menu
there is a Cut/Insert Time in the Edit menu.
    if I start here:
    http://www.applebananacarrot.com/downloads/pre.jpg
if I do the region Cut ( from the region menu on the arrange window):
look what happens to the automation data on track 21
    http://www.applebananacarrot.com/downloads/postregioncut.jpg (track 21 data didn't move)
and compare it to this one doing everything else the same but using the Cut from the main logic edit menu.
http://www.applebananacarrot.com/downloads/posteditcut.jpg Track 21 automation data did move.
    That to me seems wrong....
    whaddya think?

  • Copy/paste automation data in audio regions

    Hi,
A dumb question but I'm having trouble figuring out...how do I copy and paste automation data in audio regions? When I copy and paste an audio region I like, it pastes down the selected region but without the automation data with it. I've been rewriting the automation data every time to the newly-pasted region but I'm sure there's a simple way to do this. I've looked through the various help files but still am struggling to find the procedure. Any advice is welcome and thank you.
    Respectfully,

OK, for viewers of this topic I figured this out myself. There are two lines in the reference manual that pertain but even they were a little confusing. They read:
"Option - long clicking on a selection allows you to copy the selection." p.234
I had success by using the pointer tool and selecting the automation data within the region by holding shift+dragging the mouse over the target data. The data highlights white. Then with the pointer tip on a line of the selected data, holding option+long clicking the selection AND dragging the data while still holding the option key I was able to drag and drop the automation data to a new region in the track. That got me "in the ball park" so to speak but fine tuning the actual drop was necessary to assure precise nodal location. That can be done node by node or better by dragging the entire automation selection as a loop edit.

  • Move automation data  at same time  in differenct tracks?

hi , anyone here can give me some sugesstion ?
I want to move the automation data in different track at same time but i cannot find how to make it .
I have 7 tracks all written automation volumn data , and now I want to move them all 3 db down in some bars, it seems that i must move the automation one by one ?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately Logic doesn't yet have a trim or update mode, otherwise you could do it by using the group function on the fader channels, and using a fader movement.
What?! Really? My copy of Logic is on its way; I'm switching from SONAR and that's basically how I mix. Volume envelopes on tracks deal with automation along a track, then the track volume slider acts as an offset to those envelope-controlled volume changes, when it comes to mixing tracks together, and I realise that the whole vocal track, say, needs to be 3dB quieter just to start mixing...
So, how best to achieve this in Logic then? Do I have to route tracks to busses and mix from there? Essentially duplicating my tracks in bus-form seems like a bit of an unnecessary step! Any helpful suggestions will be welcome, but please don't flame me. I'm sure I'll be able to figure out a new workflow once I get my hands on Logic and start using it myself!

  • Is it possible to automate software instrument parameters in a MIDI region? And alias the region with the automation?

I am trying to track down a detail about how automation works in Logic Pro X.
What I want to know is:
    1. Can I draw control-point curves (and smoothly bend them) in a MIDI region to automate a software instrument parameter (and/or smart controls)?
    2. Can a region containing this automation be aliased and reused around the timeline (without the automation points being duplicated)?
If this is possible, can someone please post a couple of screenshots - a MIDI region with MIDI Draw automating (for example) the cutoff of an ES M, and screenshots of aliases around the timeline?
    thanks!!
    H

First, I'd recommend going to Track>other>new with same instrument.  This gives you a blank lane to make a region with no notes.
Now, there are two strategies: do some track automation and then convert it to region. You can go into the local view menu and find the option to view MIDI automation and still adjust it.  Now you can make aliases of that region. You need to be careful of accidentally writing new track automation, which is easy to do and can happen if you have 'move automation with regions' on for instance.  If you make sure and delete all the track auto for this parameter you should be good (the line should be barely visible black, if it is highlighted in color, that means there is at least one active node at the beginning).  If the parameter freaks out, instead of following your curve, you can bet there is track automation fighting with the region automation, you might need to tell the automation menu in the track header to show the parameter in question.  None of this is a big deal and after doing it once you'll see.
The other strategy is to assign a controller to a parameter (or use the quick MIDI things on certain instruments - you mentioned ES2, which has that) and you can use the hyper draw in the piano roll.  The view tip from the first strategy still works so you can edit the automation in the arrange.  I prefer the first strategy because the knob you are automating will still move.
If you go to audio tuts plus (something like that) you can find a tut on the first method that's a few years old, and from Logic 9.  Basically the same, you just have to look through different menus for everything.

  • Help with Automator - create workflow to move files to dated folders

If anyone could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I have no idea how to use Automator, but I think it'd be perfect for this job.
I want to take a folder of files (images) and move them to separate folders which are named for the dates that the files were created on. So, for instance, I have a folder of ten images. Five were created on November 1st and the other five were created on November 2nd. I want to create two folders on the desktop with the dates in the name (like 20071101 & 20071102) and take the five images from 11/1 and move them to the 20071101 folder and the five images from 11/2 and move them to the 20071102 folder (sorry for the run-on sentence).
Is this possible with Automator? Is this an easy thing to do?
    Thanks,
    Antonio

I'm trying to do something very similar. I need to open an image sequence in QuickTime and export them to a mov file. Easy enough, but I would also like to create a new Finder folder and name it with today's date and save the mov file to that new folder.
What frustrates me is that it doesn't appear you can name Finder folders in any way other than using the Rename Folder action. I was hoping to use today's date that I had copied to the clipboard. Also, I have no experience using AppleScript, so hoping to avoid anything advanced there.
