Move rejected to trash doesn't work

I used space saver to reject videos that were not in the project or labeled with a keyword, and they are clearly marked as rejected. But when I click on "move to trash", nothing happens.
I really need the space on my computer. Is there any way to clear these from the iMovie memory?
The solutions that I find in the earlier threads haven't worked.

hi. similar problem here. i've marked whole bunch of clips and parts of clips as rejected. then switched to "view rejected only" and hit "move rejected to trash" button. nothing happens.. trash stays empty and rejected clips aren't going anywhere.
would appreciate your thoughts and solutions.
i have a feeling it has to do with the fact that these rejected clips are imported from iphoto (movies made with photo camera) and still physically stored (checked using "reveal in finder" in the iphoto library). But even if that's the reason it's still really strange imovie doesn't give a warning or explanation.
Aarrggh. So much valuable time for stupid software bugs..
Thanks

  • IMovie: Unable to "Move Rejected to Trash"

When rejecting a clip in iMovie, I then found it impossible to move that clip to the trash. Clicking the "Move Rejected to Trash" button had absolutely no effect.
I found that the reason for this is that I had imported those movies from iPhoto, where I had originally brought them in from the camera. Closing iMovie, deleting the files in iPhoto, emptying the trash in iPhoto, and then relaunching iMovie solved the problem.

Any suggestions as to what is happening?
This seems to be a periodic bug for many users. Best advice is not to import what you don't plan to use. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to know which is which beforehand. If you haven't started building you project yet, you can always select the entire clip in the Event and use the "Contextual Menu" to reveal the location of the file you wish to delete. Then, in the finder, you can delete the file, delete the associated "Cache" and "Thumbnails" folders, close the application, and re-open it. Re-opening the application forces iMovie to re-thumbnail the event without the missing but unwanted file. (Have not tried this after using any of the Event contents in a Project as I assume it might break the project path references and I have never been that interested in taking a chance just to find out.)

  • Mov file in Keynote doesn't work in 4.0

I've been a presenting a Keynote file that includes many imbedded animations (mov or mpeg files) I did not create. I just upgraded to Keynote 4, and now one of the slides has stopped working. This shows Lake Chad slowly drying up (from Gore's presentation in An Inconvenient Truth), and previously it dissolved slowly from the Lake in 1963 through intermediate steps until it is gone in 2001. Now it freezes in 1963 and the jumps to 2001.
When I view package contents on the file, and double click on the mov file (there are actually a couple that I see), the movie runs fine in Quicktime. Anybody have any ideas for me? I'm making a major presentation using this file on Thursday. I guess I can save as an earlier version and reinstall Keynote 3...
    Thanks.
    Andy

I just open my next weeks lecture form last year and the movie doesn't play... The movie is a 281 MB H.264 movie... I can open it in quicktime and it works fine, plays in keynote 3 just fine. If I put the movie in a new presentation file it doesn't work... The preview thumbnail slide along the edge shows the movie, but it's just a blank white pane in the slide.
I just searched my HD and popped in a whole bunch of .mov movie files and they all play just fine, until I put in another H.264 one, it is also just a blank white window...
I can't believe apple didn't test H.264 in keynote 4 so this must be a setting somewhere, right?
please don't make give his lecture in powerpoint!

  • Importing mov with alpha channel doesn't work

Installed the new and "improved" Premiere Pro CC 2014 and having lots of issues.
First off, importing .movs with an alpha channel doesn't work.
Second, the playback in Premiere is much worse, dropped frames and dropped audio quite frequently.
Anyone have any solutions or experiencing similar problems?

  • HT1657 I rented a movie and the sound doesn't work, how do I fix it?, who do I direct to for a complaint?

Hi, I rented warhorse HD, and the sound doesn't work, my itunes version is 10.6.1(7). How do I fix it or who do I direct to get my money back? Thank you

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • Move rejected to trash changes aspect ratio of a clip

I just switched from iMovie HD to iMovie '11. I imported all old projects that I did not yet work on into the new version. This worked fine and I created my first movie successfully. For the current movie I have a lot of raw material in the format of 16:9 (DV). So I rejected parts of a clip and moved these to the trash in order to free space. But after moving the rejected parts, something happend to the aspect ratio of the remainder of the clip. The remaining clip is now distorted to 4:3 (black bars to the left and right, image distorted in height). All other clips are still in 16:9 and the projects settings tell this, too.
Does anyone know how to reset the clip in the event viewer to the correct aspect ratio?
    Many thanks,
    Erik

It sounds like that in the process of deleting the first half of the clip, the Anamorphic flag was stripped off.
You should be able to fix this in MPEG Streamclip, which is free.
In iMovie, right-click on the Event clip with the bad aspect ratio. Select Reveal In Finder. Drag this clip into Mpeg Streamclip.
In mpeg streamclip, FILE/EXPORT TO DV.
Choose 16:9 as aspect ratio and leave everything else the same.
Import this clip back into your imovie project. When you are sure all is well, you can delete the other one.

  • Secure Empty Trash doesn't work

Working in Mavericks on an iMac 27. Secure Empty Trash starts but disappears and nothing is deleted. Is it safe to use Erase Free Space in Disk Utility?

So it won't help me at all. I don't quite see any use for it, a good reason not to use it. But I have some 560 000 files in Trash and they won't budge.
When you delete a file (without Secure Empty Trash), all the data of the file still exists on the file system free list.  It will remain there until the file system reuses the space.  Erase Free Space is a way to address this, after files have been deleted.
It is only really useful as a once in a while event, such as someone forgot to use Secure Empty Trash for a file with sensitive data.  And Secure Empty Trash is very time consuming, and worse it is if you have an SSD, this wears out the SSD faster.
A better approach is to use FileVault so that a deleted file is instantly securely deleted because it was always encrypted.
Since you are attempting to use Secure Empty Trash, then I would try this from the command line using the 'srm' command.  "man srm"
    srm -f -r -v ~/.Trash/*
The srm command will perform a secure erase.  The -f will keep it from prompting for approval.  The -r will recurse through and directories of files in the trash.  The -v will display the progress while deleting so you can see how things are going, and have an idea of how much progress you are making.
Be very careful with srm, as if you point it at the wrong directory it could delete something you care about, or a lot of somethings.
If there are files that srm -f will not delete, then you bring out the sudo command.  But be VERY CAREFUL with sudo, as you can delete a lot more than just a few files you care about.
    sudo srm -f -r -v ~/.Trash/*

  • Trash doesn't work

i have a macbook air 13 mavericks and i am deleting some old pictures... it was already two days my trash is just posting moving items to trash... i cannot even force quit or shut down,,,
    please help apple support community..

If the Mac is locked up and you can't do anything, you may have to pull the plug on your Mac . But before doing this, do you have backup in case the forced shutdown causes further problems? It shouldn't, but it is a possibility.
Are you able to access the Apple Menu and 'force quit' any open apps, or select Force Quit>Finder>Relaunch Finder. Worth checking as this may give you back control of the Mac.
Once you get an operational Mac, take a look here for suggestions on resolving Trash problems: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/trash.html

  • I am unable to move rejected event footage from iMovie into the trash

I'm trying to free up space on my MacBook, and would like to permanently delete some rough footage from iMovie. I selected the footage and pressed the reject button. A red line appeared along the top of the thumbnails. But when I the pressed the "Move Rejected to Trash" tab, nothing happened. Nothing moved to the trash. Any suggestions as to what is happening? I would be forever grateful to whomever can help me with this.

  • Move rejected clips to trash?

I have really large clip sizes, from 1-10 minutes long, that are taking up massive amounts of space on my hd, but I only need 10-20 seconds of each clip. The vast majority of my material ends up getting Rejected.
I have read that there is an option to Move Rejected Files to Trash, which will delete the unwanted material but preserve the other stuff. I cannot seem to find this option: it does not appear in the Browser when viewing rejected files. I read that I can go to File>Move Rejected Clips to Trash, however this option does not appear in my File menu.
What am I doing wrong? Is this ability no longer enabled? I am on a MacBook Pro using the 2013 iMovie that shipped with my laptop. Thanks for any help.

    Hey crazyshannon,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like youwant to delete rejected clips. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
iMovie '11: Delete unwanted video clips from an Event
To delete video clips permanently from your Event Library:
In the Event Library, click to select the Event you want to delete video from.
In the Event browser, select the frames or clips you want to remove from the Event, and then press Delete or click the Reject button (shown below) in the iMovie toolbar.
(The Reject button also has a small “x” if you have Advanced Tools turned on.)
If you’ve chosen All Clips from the Show pop-up menu (shown below), which appears below the Event browser, a red line appears across the top of the rejected frames.
If you’ve chosen Favorites Only or “Favorites and Unmarked,” the rejected clips disappear from view.
Choose File > “Move Rejected Clips to Trash.”
All the clips that are currently marked as “rejected” in any Event or project are queued to move to the Trash. This includes clips you may have marked previously, not only those you just rejected.
In the dialog that appears, do one of the following:
If you’re confident you know which clips you’ve previously rejected and you want to delete all of them, click “Move to Trash.”
The video is removed from your Events, but it still occupies space in the Trash.
If you want to review the clips that you’ve marked for deletion, click View Rejected Clips.
The Event browser shows just the rejected clips in the selected Event. Select any clips that you don’t want to delete, and then click the Unmark button.
To delete the rejected clips, click the “Move Rejected to Trash” button (A, below) in the upper-right corner of the Rejected Clips window.
Click the “Move to Trash” button in the dialog that appears; the video is removed from your Events, but it still occupies space in the Trash.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Move projects to trash in imovie

I have imovie 5. I have a number of movie projects that I want to delete and send to the trash. I have tried dragging to the trash, etc but nothing seems to work. What is the secret???

    Hi
I have video clips that I have imported into my iMovie Events library, not vis iPhoto, which I can reject, but which will not then delete. The clips show up as rejected with the red line, but selecting the option to move rejected to trash does nothing.
I have other video clips that I have imported into my iMovie Events library, not via iPhoto, which I can reject, and which also WILL then move to trash
It seems to be random when it works and when it doesnt. Sometimes if I shut don my Mac and start it again, I am then able to move some of the clips to trash that would not move before. But this does not work every time.
I store my iMovie events on an external hard drive. I have used disk utility to verify the disk and it says all is OK. I have about 1/3 free spacestill on the external drive - and trash on my iMac is emplty (as is he iPhoto trash, although I cant see why that woudl be relevant)
Any ideas - is this a bug? I need to be able to delete rejected clips or I will run out of disk space....
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Line Drawing Script on Stage doesn't work in MovieClip?

I have a little snippet of code that allows the user to create a line with the mouse, and clears the line if they end up touching the hitbox with the mouse, while they're drawing the line. It works fine when it's just thrown onto the main timeline. However, when I try to encapsulate it within a movie clip, it suddenly doesn't work. At all. Are there any suggestions as to why this is happening? Here's the code.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Oh! Haha, sorry, brainfart. That is all of the code that I use in that particular frame, where I want the user to be able to draw within the confines of the box. The only other code I use are for the drag and drop boxes, meant to be dropped onto a particular area. Those are working just fine, but if you want to see that code too, then:

  • Moving Rejected to Trash

I have rejected a number of duplicate movie clips previously moved from iPhoto, but I now cannot move them to trash (either by using the relevant button or from the toolbar. Am I missing something, is this a bug, and is there a way out of this?

If you have clips that are rejected AND the rejected section of the clip is used in one of your projects, iMovie won't move those clips to the trash.
Another option is to use "Delete Unused" which will delete just the clips and sections of clips that are not used by any of your projects. Delete Unused is available when you select an Event (one that is used by a Project) and go to File->Move Event to Trash. A dialog shows up with "Delete Unused" button.
Both "Move Rejected to Trash" and "Delete Unused" can be time consuming (in some cases it has to split up and write out new clips for you) so plan accordingly. Best wishes.
