• Image viewer / movie

I need to put an image viewer or movie into my site that has no black border at the top or bottom of my viewer. Something directly on my site that is smooth on the background.  If you look at this site http://verdis.com/ , I want something just like that on the homepage. With the images with no black and it is smooth. Any ideas on how I can create this and place it into dreamweaver for my website would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.

Your example uses a Flash SWF
http://verdis.com/welcome.swf
This could also be achieved with jQuery Cycle

• Drawing a straight line over a video

Is it possible to draw a straight line over a video in CS6 and also to watch the video frame by frame to take exact timings?

Hi Jeff,
Back again! i have managed to put the line over the video and can have it on there as long or as short time as i wish, but it appears to be moving with the video and i need it to stay at a certain point and the video to carry on playing. Basically im trying to mark a point on a race track where the horse in the lead gets to, then i need the line to stay there for when the last horse comes to the line, with the lead horse moving on past. Currently the line doesnt stay on a specific point it on the video and go out of shot when the video moves, it appears to be moving with the video. I know the overlay is a static image but is there a way of making it look like it stays in a specific place on the video?
Hope this makes sense!
Thanks Kat

• I can't draw straight lines for fill-in-the-blank on my tests and worksheets. The "draw it yourself choice makes big fat lines and takes a lot of manipulation. Do I have to draw them myself with a pen and a ruler?

I can't draw straight lines for fill-in-the-blank on tests and worksheets. The draw-it-yourself ooption gives me thick lines and is time-consuming. So, after all these years, do I have to go back to using a ruler and a pen?

In Pages v5.0.1, the straight lines are already drawn for you in the Shape Tool. Before we go there, select Menu > View > Show Ruler.
When you click on Shape in the Pages toolbar, the top left line is straight. Click it. It will drop into your document in a 45 degree angle. Grab the lower left selection grip and drag it up and to the right to position the horizontal line in the length of your choice. Use the Format: Style tab to manage the stroke weight. You can also choose Menu > Edit > Duplicate Selection (command+D) as a productivity tool.
If you move from the Format: Style tab to the Arrange tab, you can compare the start and end points with where you want the line positioned on the ruler. Once you have it positioned, notice the Lock button, also on the Format: Arrange tab.

• Leopard Image Viewer(s) Recommendation?

I'm kind of the family (large family) archivist, and have probably close to a 100 CDs of digital and scanned photos and such (backed-up to an external firewire drive, of course).
Since my Apple G3, OS 9 days, I've used a FANTASTIC program called BigPicture. I still use it on my iMac 17" flat-panel (with the domed base), using Tiger (it runs under Classic.)
I bought an Intel MacBook this July, with Leopard, and of course, it won't run Classic (or BigPicture).
So I'm looking for suggestions for an alternative Image Viewer. I'm more than willing to pay. I've checked all the free ones at Versiontracker, and have found then all to be wanting:
http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/graphics/image-view
I don't want to use iPhoto, even if it would do what I want, because these pictures and such are on CDs, and I don't want them on my computer in an "iPhoto Library".
Nothing built-in to Leopard (Preview, Quicklook, etc.) suffices either.
Here is what BigPicture does (among other unimportant-to-me-things): (Check the screenshots below!)
1. You can load in a folder, a bunch of folders, or an entire CD of pictures.
2. It displays the images at their correct size, or, if the photos are larger than your screen, scales them down to fit your screen (you can zoom in, or out, by clicking the + or - button at the lower bottom-right mini-menu THAT DOESN'T OBSCURE THE PICTURE). There is no highly annoying thumbnail view or "tree" to the left or right or anywhere else.
3. To move to the next picture, you tap the space bar. Elegant simplicity!
4. You can "mark" a picture by moving your mouse to the top of the screen and selecting "mark" (there's a keyboard command, too, but I've never used it, or click the "M" at the bottom right of the screen, where most of the menu actions also exist). Once you've gone through all the pictures, you can "move" "delete" or "copy" the pictures you've "marked". (Not that it'll actually move or delete them if they are burned to a CD.) This is great if "little" nephew Jethro is finally getting married, and you want to gather pictures from his childhood that will embarrass the heck out of him at the wedding reception, and these are spread about in folders on a couple dozen CDs--this is also where the simple spacebar toggle comes in VERY handy.
5. It runs full-screen slideshows, either in the order of the pictures, or randomly, at a duration you choose, in seconds, and the slideshow runs repeatedly until you quit. Of course, by "grabbing" the lower right corner, you can make the slideshow smaller, so it doesn't take up the entire screen.
Oh, the other thing I really appreciate is at the lower left, it tells how many pictures you've loaded into the program, and what # picture you are on.
Here are a few screenshots of the no-longer-available program:
Elegant simplicity!

Can anyone recommend a program that does all of this with such elegant simplicity? It'd be great to take my MacBook to family reunions and such to run slide-shows.
Thanks.

I would very strongly recommend iviewmedia from (dare I say) Microsoft, available from http://www.iview-multimedia.com/
It will do 99% of what you requested, it is elegant, fast and very efficient.
It also catalogues off-line media (CDs).
On top of images it catalogues, previews and plays all other media types.
I used it at work and absolutely loved it. Very friendly, very professional.
edit> It is called Expression media now.

• How do I edit image viewer slideshow created in CS3, in CS4?

I apologize for posting this twice...once in a previous post and once here. The reason being...the other post was old (2008) and I'm afraid it might get overlooked. So I thought I'd create a new discussion.
I created a bunch  of slideshows in CS3 using Insert - Media - Image Viewer. I was looking  for an easy way for my client to update the site themselves. Even  though it creates a Flash element, it is easy for them to go in and  switch out the images. All they do is click on the slideshow box, hit  Window - Tag Inspector and click on the little folder at the side of the  Image URLs' line. Nothing could be simpler. Well...I went in to see my  client to show her how to do this but she has CS4. When I tried to do  the same thing, nothing looked the same. The tag inspector did not have  the same elements in it at all. Does this mean she cannot edit the  slideshows I have created? Ugh...
If anyone can help  with a work around to this...I'd be very grateful!
Thanks.
Pam

Thanks for your reply via e-mail David. I tried to reply but it's a no reply address so I'm posting here:
Do you happen to know if my client who has CS4 would be able to open the slideshows I created in CS3 using the method mentioned here:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Bridge/3.0/WSCF044571-2772-4d28-9EBD-2C9F46AF008A.html
Not having CS4, I can't even play around with it to see. Or will the slideshows have to be recreated in CS4? Has my work in CS3 over the months gone to waste in other words?
Alternatively, would it be better for us both to purchase a $29 Dreamweaver extension such as the one below, so we could both access the slideshow from CS3 and CS4 at the same time?
http://www.dwuser.com/flashslideshow/v3/
I need to keep building the new site using the slideshows while she maintains the old site (no slideshows) until we upload the new site this summer. I don't want to continue building slideshows she cannot access.
Thanks a lot for your help!

• When I record an audio track, there is a waveform. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing?

When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

In Logic:
Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

• How can i make a simple image viewer in JAVA?

i know this is a silly doubt...but 'm new to java
i have to make an image viewer which can also zoom the image
please help me
advance thanx

Create an java.awt.Image object
Display it in a java.awt.Panel object
using java.awt.Graphics.drawImage
some of the drawImage methods let you scale, clip, and flip the image.
That's AWT. It may be easier in Swing.
I think this could be written in under 50 lines of code. Maybe under 25.
Read the tutorials and the API. All will become clear.
If you're new to java, you might be better off posting to the New To Java forum.

• Simplifying Straight Line Paths

Hey all,
new to the forum and really struggling with something at the moment, Using Illustrator CS4
I've imported a map from a DWG prepared in Archicad (vector based architecture software)
This map shows roads and buildings (they are paths in illustrator) and as you would imagine the roads are curved but rather than being drawn with curves they are composed of many many straight line paths and as I'm meaning to have a model laser cut from the Illustrator file I need to join these paths into longer paths so the laser cutting doesn't take forever.
As far as I can see it's fairly simple to simplify the number of anchor points on a curved path using the Object>Path>Simplify tool but simplifying multiple straight line paths that only have the slightest deviation in angle seems harder, or at least I can't work it out.
I have attached an image, The areas highlighted in green are examples of areas where there are too many paths and just one or two paths would be fine. It would be fine to either convert the paths to curved paths or just simply reduce the number of straight line paths that compose the curves.
Hope someone can help, Thx for your time
The

Apart from the current problem, you should take a look at the free plugin "Kartografie-Funktionen" if you do this kind of stuff regularly. http://www.ika.ethz.ch/plugins/index.html
It has a tool for simplifying paths, which works slightly different than Illustrator's

• Image Viewer Pictures Don't Display

I've attempted to use Image Viewer in DW CS3. Flash element

• Newbe - straight line with different curves at each end

I'm generally not using Illustrator as I'm sure you can tell. I need several curly brackets, but none will really do as they will cover varioius lengths and should be the same size. It looks like the easiest way will simply be to create one putting two straight lines together, but I cannot even determine how to get a curved end at one end of the line - yet alone a second different curve on the other end. Thanks. Rick

shiesl,
For the curly bracket shape you may consider quarter circles at the ends, and a pair at the middle, all with the same radius.
You may:
1) Create a circle with the Ellipse Tool and cut it into quarters at the Anchor Points; you may then use all the bits or just one or two of them with copies,
2) Place the first quarter with the inner end where you want the first straight part to start (on one side of the intended straight part),
3) Place the second quarter (corresponding to a 180 degrees rotation) oppositely (on the other side of the intended straight part) where you want the firrst straight part to end,
4) With the Direct Selection Tool select both inner ends and Object>Path>Join, now you have one half curly bracket,
5) Object>Transform>Reflect, Align the two halves, and Join them at the midlle.
For different lengths, you may Direct Select the two Anchor Points at either end and move them away from the middle (you may use arrow, Object>Transform>Move, or other ways).
If you just want roundings at the ends, you may simplify the suggestion here, just having the second one on the same side in 3) and finish with 4).

• Image Viewer skips first photo

Hi please help me I got a small problem. I created a Image Viewer with Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.
The Image Viewer is a slide where you can show Photos.
My problem is when i am scrolling trough my uploaded images, it does not show the first photo again.
I uploaded the Image Viewer to my blog, you can see it right here: http://natiosuriname.blogspot.com/2009/11/inventarisatie-suriprof-keepers.html
Just try to scroll, after the fourth photo you will it wil skip photo 1.
Maybe someone can tell what i should do.

• Black Line under Linked Image

Hey, I have started another website for my portfolio, consisting of many pages. Anyway, I'm mainly using CSS, but there is a little HTML for the navigation.
Heres the question: When I linked the top banner image to go to the Home page (index.html), there is a random black line under the image. I gave the image and ID tag in CSS and made sure that border:0;
