Move Terminal server licenses to another server

We have one terminal server VM hosted in hyper v server. currently there is a problem with the hyper v server hdd and we might need to rebuild the whole server. We would like to setup a new terminal server on a new server. The existing terminal server is
windows server 2003. After I fresh setup the Windows server 2003 VM in a new server, how do I move the terminal server license to a new server? FYI, we would like to decommission the old terminal server. But we would like to do it in parallel as there are
many users are still accessing to the old terminal server.
Thanks so much.
Regards,
Henry

Hi Henry,
First you need to gather your licensing paperwork, authorization number(s), license number(s), etc. for your existing licenses.  This step is critical.
Next install RD Licensing on the replacement 2003 server, Activate it using Terminal Server Licensing (licmgr.exe), then install the TS CALs.  If you receive an error when installing the old TS CALs please contact the Clearinghouse and explain
to them you need to install the TS CALs on a new server because the old one is being decommissioned.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291795
Once you have confirmed that the old TS CALs are installed on the replacement 2003 TS then make sure your 2003 TS is set to the correct Licensing mode (to match the type of TS CALs) and you have Specified the name of the new RD Licensing server.
You do this in Terminal Services Configuration (tscc.msc) on the replacement terminal server.
As an alternative you could install the existing TS CALs on a newer RD Licensing server such as Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, etc.  You still will need to have the authorization number(s), license number(s), etc. for the existing 2003 TS CALs.

  • Transport a request from one server(quality) to another server(production)

    Hi All,
I want to transport a request from one server(quality) to another server(production)
Can we transport a request from quality to production programatically i.e. by using programing logic.
    Regards,
    Swarup

    Hi,
It cannot be done programmatically. Although it can be automated by basis guys. They configure it in TMS (Transport Management System). You can check it using STMS. (if you are authorized to view it).
Transport path are defined in TMS.
For Automated Transport configuration is done in TMS.
Generally automatic Transport are not setup between quality and production. Changes are first tested in Quality and then Transported by basis team either periodically / individually.
In case of manual transport Transport Request can be imported in production using STMS_IMPORT transaction in production. (Basis guy will do it for approved Transports)
If there is no direct connectivity - Basis people copy "data" file and "co" file and Transport it to target server (This is generally not the case in Quality - production as Transport path is always defined).

  • Migrating License to another Server

    Good day everyone,
I setup a Server 2012 R2 VM and used the only license I have available to me and set the box up as a domain controller. Until my company receives its licensing I was going to setup a physical DC Server 2012 R2 evaluation and migrate services onto it
but that is not possible as you cannot upgrade the key on an evaluation version that is a DC.
I planned on doing a V2P with the VM instead but I found it was not supported by WMM 2012.
So my next idea it to take the license from my Server 2012 R2 VM and use it on the physical box but I am unsure if this is possible. Any ideas or help with the process of this would be fantastic.
    ~ Antony

Free advice is worth every cent spent.
Licensing questions should be directed to a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.
Licenses are pieces of paper granting you rights.  They are assigned to physical servers.  Windows Server licenses are not installed on any system.  You keep track of which licenses you have assigned to which physical machines.  You can
move a license from one physical machine to another physical machine once every 90 days.  (All this can be found by simply reading the EULA (end user licensing agreement) that comes with every license you purchase.
From a technical standpoint, what you are doing is quite possible.  From a legal standpoint, that is where you need to talk to a licensing specialist as most members of this forum most likely should not be offering legal advice to you.

    Hi,
The way to move mailboxes from one database to another database is available. When you move a mailbox, you're moving it from a source mailbox database to a target mailbox database. The target mailbox database can be on the same server, on a different server,
in a different domain, in a different Active Directory site, or in another forest.
You can refer to the following articles:

  • Verity K2 Server - point to another server?

Well i am stuck, i have looked through the coldfusion

    me an answer so far.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows if you can
configure Verity K2 to point to another server in Coldfusion 8

developer/enterprise. If i type the URL in standard i can actually
get to the page that lets you configure another server however when
i save it does not save the change. None of the feature matrix's
out there tell me wether this feature is included in Standard
edition and adobe support dont seem to know either (seriously).
Can anyone out there help me?

  • Move base-ap license to another WLC?

    Hi
I would like to move the base license from a Cisco air-ct5508-50-k9 to a new air-ct5508-12-k9.
And then move the air-ct5508-12-k9 to the air-ct5508-50-k9. Baically swap them around.
The reason I need to do this is that it will be very hard to move the units physically so just moving the base license would make life much easier.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
different devices have different serial numbers, and the license has  that serial number inside it."among other inventory items"
moving the license between WLC's is not possible.
you can open a TAC case stating your problem and someone from the licensing team will help you to sort that out.

  • Copying database objects and data from one server database to another server database in AG group

    Hi,
I am still trying to wrap my head around sql clusters and AGs and I have a project that requires I take a vendor's database and restore it weekly so its available on the production server which is clustered.
The vendor's database on the cluster is in an AG group and encrypted.
Right now, I plan to restore the database on a sql staging server and use the SSIS Transfer SQL Server Objects Task to copy the table structure and data from Stage to the Production database of same name and I would first drop the objects in production
    database using the same task.
I am concerned that this might cause issues with the passive cluster due to "logging" from active to passive. The database is about 260 MBs and I am not sure how many tables.
Has anyone run into this type of scenario before or have a better solution?
    Thanks
    Sue

IF I understand anything about clustered sql and logging, the sql server should take the log file and recreate the same scenario on the passive side of the cluster.
    Is that correct?
    Hi Sue,
Yes, for AlwaysOn Availability Group, the transaction log is basically replayed from the primary to all of the secondary's.
Besides, from my point of view, as we cannot directly restore a database that is part of an Availability Group, it is a good way using SSIS task to drop and recreate all tables then transfer data from the restored database to the primary replica. Schema changes
and data changes will also happen on the secondary  replica.
There are some similar links for your reference.

Most of the times, masterdata is transferred between servers through ALE. This is considered to be one of the best and efficient ways of transferring data. You can try this too.
BDCs are another way (which can be done through LSMW or through a custom made program.

  • Migrate CAL's Terminal Licensing to Another TS Server on New Domain

    Hi
I have Terminal Server Licensing with Windows Server 2003 on OLD forest (tsserver.fortestold), on new forest I have Terminal Server Licensing with Windows Server 2003 Installed (tsserver.fortestnew).
I want to migrate my CAL licenses from the old
Terminal Server (tsserver.fortestold) to the new Terminal Server
on tsserver.fortestnew). My clients work  7x24
    365 days of year.
My question is how to migrate my licenses
to the new TS server without disconnecting
    my clients?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially what’s your new Server OS, where you have to transfer your CAL License?
Is the same as server 2003 or some other OS?
For the migration step, initially you need to install the License role on target server, activate the target license server, call the MS Clearing house with all the license related documents on hand, explain him the whole scenario of your’s ad they will help
to migrate the server. Also need to deactivate the source license server.
If you have different version of CAL\Licneses then need to upgrade\purchase accordingly.
    More information.

  • Move Central Instance to Another Server

    Hello expert,
Now we have a distributed system: CI on server 1, DB on server 2. Now we want to move the CI to another server 3 without change the DB server.
We get some information from link Move the central instance to another server in SAP
    We have few questions:
    1. Can we change the SID of CI with method provided in link?
    2. Any other additional steps should we do?
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Tong Ning

    Hi Tong,
You can install a new SAP instance (CI) on the new server as your DB is not moving and is on different host, and replicate important files from your old CI host.
For eg, the host file, services file, trans directory and some work directory contents.
Also, if your server on same OS or different ?
You should check the compatibility of new OS and DB in service market place (PAM).
For changing SID, please use standard guides and tested WIKI links.

Are you really connecting to the msdb database in your connection string?  What is the user you are connecting to the database as when you are in Management Studio?  Is it an SQL user or a Windows user?  Maybe whatever credentials you are
using in your datasource does not have access to the sql server?
And is it Server 1 or Server1? or is that just an example server name.  I agree with trying the ip address but make sure you are using the same credentials as you do in Management Studio
