Move the cache folder.

Hello,
I used to move firefox cache folder to my secondary (350 MB) ssd drive. However since a few firefox versions back the way I did it (using about:config and finding cache parent directory ) doesn't work anymore. And by doesn't work I mean there is no setting like that.
The question is: is it possible to move firefox cache folder? If so - how can I do it?
Thanks in advance,
Tomasz.

Note that this is a hidden pref that doesn't show by default on the about:config page and needs to be created as a new String pref as posted above.

  • How do I move the /Users folder to another disk

I have a shiny new MacPro, dual proc, with four, one TB hard drives in it, running OS X Server on Mountain Lion.  The first disk is the startup drive, the other three are simply empty, partitioned drives.
I am to be the sysadmin for this machine (and a half dozen Macbook Pros) for my organization.  I don't want user data to exist on the startup disk on this machine.  Right now, the only user that exists is my sysadmin account.  I want the three non-startup hard disks to hold the user data.  I think that what I want to do is map the /Users folder to one (or all) of the other three hard disks, and get that data off of the startup disk.
How do I change the location of the /Users folder?
Assuming this is possible, or desirable, the next question would be about RAID.  I have not created any RAID arrays using disk manager yet (this Mac Pro does not have a RAID card).
Should I first create a concatenated RAID set from the three additional disks?  I see no advantage to striped or mirrored sets, I will have a HUGE external drive for TimeMachine, and disk access speed is just fine.  But, I think I'd want drives 2, 3, and 4 to act as one big drive.  I think the concatenated RAID set is the answer to that.
    Thank you,
    Jess

With drives of 2, 3 or 4TB now why use three and the one time I used Apple's concatenate, no I didn't like the way it made use of drives. So I would either stripe or mirror, and maybe not even  using  Apple Disk Utility.

That's because too many people confuse moving media folder with moving the library properly.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168

  • Can I move the Pictures folder to a different internal drive?

I would like to move the Pictures folder that shows up in the Finder sidebar from my Macintosh HD (boot drive) to a separate internal drive (Media Drive) where I store all my media files. I want to do this so that when I want to save a photo from a web site or email I can click on it, select the Pictures folder, have it saved to the Pictures folder on my Media Drive rather than on the Macintosh HD (boot drive) where it currently resides. I have tried dragging and dropping the folder from the Macintosh HD (boot drive) to the Media Drive but it does not work. Ideas would be most welcome. Thanks

    Baltwo,
a question - perhaps it might be safer to create a symbolic link to the relocated folder on the external drive instead of an alias. Otherwise Unix based image editors like GIMP will not be able to see this new "Pictures" folder in the file chooser dialogue.

  • Can I move the MAIL folder off my System drive?

    Hi there,
I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and using Apple's MAIL email.
I have a very small 32gig SSD on my Mac G5 8 Core and the folder in USERS>(My name)>LIBRARY>MAIL is 11GB in size. I'd like to move this to a different internal drive, but I imagine if I do so I will find that my mail doesn't work.
Can anyone help me with the correct procedure for getting this folder off my SSD and onto a different internal drive?
Maybe if I moved the MAIL application and that MAIL folder to a different internal drive it would work ok? Or can I continue to run the MAIL program from the SSD and move the MAIL folder, the program will find it?
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.
    With thanks,
    Harry.

  • Can I move the application folder in 10.7

I have recently upgraded to an iMac 27" with the i7 - now using 256 SSD plus a 2 TB drive.  When moving "lots" of applications from my older MacPro I will need more room than 256 - can I move the App Folder to the 2 TB drive and continue to have full access?

It causes problems for backing up if you do.  Better to get a larger internal hard drive*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Or archive documents you don't use frequently away from the internal hard drive.   But make sure you always have at least two copies of your data at all times.

  • HT1229 Can i move the iPhoto folder onto an external HDD? Will it work the same way after moving onto an external HDD? do I then need to have the external connected at all times, even when I don't use iPhoto?

I have a macbook pro, but the amount of pictures I have now exceeds 500GB
I want to have all the pictures in iPhoto, so I could see them and edit them in iPhoto.
Which means... I need the iPhoto file folder in an external HDD to use iPhoto that way.
Can i move the iPhoto folder onto an external HDD?
Will it work the same way, as if the iPhoto folder is on the internal drive?

    yes
    yes
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • How can I move the .thunderbird folder so I can sync it with Insync and 3 other computers.

I have had to move from Ubuntu One to Insync and the .thunderbird folder needs to be in the Insync folder to sync with all 3 computers. Is there a way to move it so that I can sync all files and settings?
I can move mail storage and local folders but what about calendar and other data?
    I'm using Ubuntu 13.10

have you considered using imap mail and synchronized calendars to a server. That is really how it is meant to work. Thunderbird has no idea about network drives or other programs interfering with it's files and they almost invariably cause massive headaches for the parties involved.

  • What is the best way to move the Installer folder to another drive?

The Installer folder on an SSD with limited space has grown to 30GB.  I am willing to take the risk to move this folder to another HD.  I have read about moving the folder using junction on other versions of Windows.  Is that still the best

even though junction will also work for "C:\Windows\Installer" as stated at this document below

    Hi,
Yes, you can move this folder - in fact it's not a bad idea to also save a copy to a dvd or flash drive.
The swsetup folder contains all the drivers and the majority of software that comes with your machine - if you use Recovery Manager to reinstall software/drivers, this is the folder accessed, so you would need to move it back before using this option.

  • How can I move the passwords folder on a external drive?

    Hello!
    I have a simple question:
I do not want the passwords and filled forms data stored on my computer but rather on a flash drive. So, when I am done with the computer, I unplug the flash drive and take all sensitive data with me.
How can I do it? How can I change the default location C:\Documents and Settings\sun\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles to the flash drive?

That preference does not exist by default. Right-click in the about:config window and choose New > String, set it name to '''browser.cache.disk.parent_directory''' and value to where you want the cache. (Note there is an underscore in the name)

  • Moving cache folder

    Hello,
I would like to know if it´s possible to move the cache folder (adobe flash player)  from C  hard-disk to another one for example D.
Right now the program is installed on D. But the temporary cache folder is automaticly on C created.
    Thanks a lot.

    Thanks Chris
    I decided on an experiment:
Firstly, I opened Photoshop CS6 Perpetual and then went to my 3T Drive
J: and there it was, Photoshop Tmp .....   which I think is the  scratch
    file.
In Edit - Preferences - Performance;  there is a dialogue box for
History, Cache and Scratch with Scratch  having a choice of drives - I
(me) chose J:. On closing Photoshop ...Tmp disappeared from J:.
Secondly,  Bridge CS6 opened to a folder "Churches All" which has three
    files not in sub-folders - I found  two folders on J:; "256" and "1024",
each containing the same three files as  in "Churches All". I closed
Bridge but those two folders plus two more; "data" and "full" remained.
"data" contains a file(?) called "store",  but "full", paradoxically,
    was empty.
Not sure what the above explains but Bridge does leave a trail of
folders/files, as shown on my I: drive back to 2012.  Deleting those
folders/files manually does not seem to upset Photoshop, and now, having
a huge second drive, I suppose they are bearable but then I'm only a bit
more than a casual user. But once I start backing up to that drive the
story may be different. It would be nice if the system automatically
removed the cache after closing down photoshop/bridge.
    warmest regards
