Move to 4.0 or Wait for 4.1?

We currently have BOE XI 3.1 and are considering the move to 4.0. However, I
have heard that we should wait for 4.1. What is the functionality that we
would lose out on by moving to 4.0? In other words, what items won't be
available until 4.1.
Thanks,
--Brent

Hi Brent, a general rule of thumb: you should always avoid "dot zero" of any software application from ANY vendor. With that being said, it should not stop you from testing the software and plan accordingly.
Depending on how large your environment is, a minimum 6-month testing and planning is very common, before rolling out to Production. By the time you finish testing and planning, there should be at least a Service Pack 1 available. I expect 4.1 to be released by Q4 of 2011.
Hope this helps.

  • Firefox pauses and waits for mouse input

I think this may be related to the new Firefox, but I'm not sure. It's a relatively new phenomenon... a couple of weeks now, i think.
Whenever I perform a browser task, like open a window or download a file or (sometimes)try to play a video in Firefox, the action will start but it only runs for a moment or two and then hangs.
I have found that the action will begin again as soon as I move my mouse or click a mouse button. So sometimes I will have to move my mouse in circles waiting for the requested action to finish.

I had the same issue on FF5. I just upgraded my Flash player, and the problem has now gone away.

  • HT201263 iPad recovery mode says "Waiting for iPad" but never progresses.  Any suggestions?

I have a iPad 2 that will not power up nor will it recover.  When plugged in, iTunes detects the iPad is in recovery mode and tells me I must restore to continue.  I agree and iTunes downloads the recovery and updates file, decompressed it, verifies it, then says it is Preparing the iPad for recovery.  I then get the apple logo on the iPad screen with a progress bar.  iTunes then says "Waiting for iPad".  The progress bar never moves and iTunes has said Waiting for iPad for 2-hours now.  When I disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, the logo/progress bar remains until I do a hard reset (home button/power button) to power it off.  Power button alone will not power it off.  Again, the iPad will not power up and again, iTunes will recognize it when plugged in and the whole cycle starts over again.

When did this start happening? I mean, what was happening to the ipad that prompted you to try a restore in the first place?
Did this start when trying to updated the ios?
There were some issues awhile back with ipad 2 and updating to ios 6.1. The ios file had to be downloaded seperately to the computer and all other previous ios update files previously downloaded had to be deleted from the computer.
If what I'm saying describes the issue, then take a look at the following article links, otherwise, you may just have to keep trying to follow HT1808 (it may take several attempts).
    I cannot restore the I pad 2,
My Ipad 2 is stuck in recovery mode after the update 6.1

how do a get a refund on a ridiculously slow downloading rented movie for my apple tv dispite a >5mb/sec down load speed? my first experience with appletv movie rental. no good. rented at 4:30pm. still waiting for standard def movie to finish at 8:10pm. Not good enough.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

When watching a rented movie, the movie pauses and we have to wait for it to reload.  is there anything that we can do to stop this?

This is likely caused by your network.
What is your connection speed? www.speedtest.net
6mbps is required for the best experience on HD (you can change to SD in the settings)
If on wifi try ethernet and www.istumbler.net to check interference
Make sure you're using the ISPs DNS

  • Wait for move complete not waiting for timeout

    Hi,
I am running a small rotary stage with a 7358 motion controller. Occasionally when I command a new position, the "wait for move complete" seems to get triggered almost immediately even though the move is not complete. Since I have put in a "halt" downstream of this to cover the case where the move times out, the move stops immediately. The problems seems interrmittent but I haven't discovered a pattern yet except that is happens for more often when making a reverse move, i.e. I go to 1000 counts as a forward move and then back to 800 as a reverse.
    Has anyone seen something similar?
    Thanks,
    Dave

oops syntax error! I put waitComplete, but it's supposed to be moveComplete as the last argument for flex_wait_for_move_complete. Just want to let you guys know that. Thanks!

  • HT1657 Do I have to wait for a rented movie to download before playing?

I seem to need to wait for my rented movie to fully download before playing. Is this normal? I would have expected once the download has begun, for playing the movies to be possible. Any advice?

Nope. If they have them in stock, then you can get one, and if they don't, try again later. No list.

  • How do I make a movie wait for a FLV cuepoint

I'm trying to synch a "talking head" FLV with some graphics,
so I simply want to get my movie to wait for a cuepoint to begin
playing again. I'm making it Flash 7 compatible, so I'm using the
    older Media Display component.
Is there a "stop" and "wait for cuepoint" that would work? If
someone could give me the actionscript I should paste in the frame,
it would be greatly appreciated, since I don't really know
    actionscript that well. Thanks.

I'm sensing that you don't know much actionscript. If you
want to do much that is really fun and cool you will need to learn
    some.
Start with the help files. Everytime you use a new component
or class go to the Actionscript Language Reference or the Component
Dictionary. Don't try searching it will generally only confuse you
    more.
This next bit is going to sound silly, but the differences
are subtle and please take it in the manner it is offered.
When you say you'd like to pause at a certain frame you mean
a movieclip that you have, right?
If you check all the information about the FLVs and the Media
component you will find there is absolutely nothing that allows it
to make a movieclip pause or play. But if you check the MovieClip
class you will find there are the MovieClip.stop() and the
MovieClip.play() methods. These are the only ways to get a
movieclip to pause/stop and or play. There are no others.
So you have most of the answer there in your second post. It
is just worded a bit off.
You need a movie to pause (for which you will use the
MovieClip.stop() method) and when a cuepoint happens you will need
    to start the movie using MovieClip.play();
If you check the MediaDisplay component directory there will
be sample code for how to listen for a cuepoint. I'm still using
Flash 7 so my help files are organized a bit differently, but what
you are looking for is under Media.cuePoint.
Notice the code at the bottom of the entry – READ the
whole entry, even if you don't understand it all now, read it,
outloud if it helps. You will need to have an instance of the
playback component on the stage (in this example it is called
myPlayback, but you could call it whatever you wanted, just make
sure that both names are the same.
I recommend trying this outside of your current project. Set
up a simple new document, put an instance of the playback component
on the stage, give it an instance name, assign an FLV to it, give
it a cuepoint or two, and then add the listener code, just as it
is. See how it works? Do you get the trace statements?
Then you can develop it a little further. Add some named
movieclip to your stage. Add a line myClip.stop(); Also notice that
you can give your cuepoints names? Put a few in and call some start
and some stop (or whatever you want.) Then instead of a trace in
the cuepoint listener have something that says, "If the cuepoint is
called start I should tell the movieclip to play and if the
cuepoint is called stop I should tell the movieclip to stop/pause."
I could easily write all this code out for you, but what
would be the fun of that for you? Give it your best shot and post
    back as you accomplish things.

  • HT1657 Can I do watch something else on tv while I am waiting for my rented movie to download?

Can we watch something else on our tv while we are waiting for our rented movie to download (Hours!!!)???

Not advisable, the ATV (2n'd and 3'rd gen) doesn't have a hard drive, it is limited memory which is used for streaming only.
Try to avoid renting HD... should not take as long.

It can take the card up to 24 hours to activate after the point of purchase, but if its past 24 hours from when you bought it, the card must not have been activated properly at the register, which is the sole responsibility of the retailer.

  • DVR Problem w/QIP7232P2 DVR Operation; HOW Long will I have to wait for 1.9.1?

    THE SHORT PROBLEM:
    1) DVR records only a few moments of pre-scheduled events then the recording stops with only 10 to 30 seconds stored content and this is reported in the on screen detail.
    2) DVR records a full 1 hour show however, after 20 or so minuets of playback, use of the fast forward, skip (to get around a commercial) or pause DVR functions will cause the playback to jump to the end and you can't see the rest of the story.  One must start the show over again, view stuff you have seen before to get to where the error happen.  If you fast forward too close to the point of the error, you will get dumped out of the show all over again.  Once you get close you just have to watch commercials and what you have seen before and then not use any DVR functions in order to watch the rest of the show.
    3) DVR records a full 1 hour show, you fast forward to a time that is say 50% into the show, the progress bar will move forward like normal to show you get close to the point of you stopped watching the show before (to help solve problem #2 above) BUT, if you go too far, the progress bar will jump back to the start of the show and you may be dumped out of the program or it may continue to move forward.  However the operation of the progress bar is not right.
This would render the DVR less then useful.  Verizon has replaced my STB and talked me through the reset of AC power operation that is the normal fix for most STB issues.  I'm told this will require a software upgrade from 1.9 to 1.9.1.  OK, GET IT DONE and CREDIT USERS OF DVRs THE FEE PAID FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT WORKING.
    THE LONG STORY WITH DETAILS:
All seemed to be well with the unit for a few months and the upgrade to the new 1.9 software looked like it went off without a hitch.
But.....Starting on around 12/17/11 I noticed that my DVR was recording only about 10 to 30 seconds of programming during scheduled events.  Sometimes it would attempt to record the same event one or two times, each only lasting a few moments.  I called Verizon customer service I think on 12/20/11 and they asked me to pull the 120 volt power and then re-apply power.  This helped the problem but, remote testing seemed to show an issue and the customer rep decided a replacement unit was needed and Order No. MDDQ08V49U was created and another set-top box was shipped to me.
It is too bad that the technology has been developed to allow the external storage of digital content however, one can't back the 200 plus hours of video one may have stored on a set-top box and restore it on a new unit.  It is also not possible to reproduce the vast extent of scheduling of events.  No, it seems when you change out a set top box, all the programming is gone and you have to spend an afternoon coping down the schedule from the Series Manager and then re-enter all new events by making new recording events; a very time consuming operation.
So it is frustrating once after this afternoon is wasted reprogramming a new set-top is all done with the new set-top box installed, I find that on 1/5/12 when viewing recorded programming that should be one hour long, I only seem to get 22 minutes of playback.  I try to look at this in detail and see that the first 22 minutes indeed play back in a normal manor.  One is able to use the jump forward mode to skip over a commercial and all is good.  If after 22 minutes you don't do anything, playback will continue to the end of the 1 hour.  BUT, if after the first 22 minutes you try the skip or pause function, the program will jump to the end screen where you are given the option to: Program Options Page were you can select Play, Save until I delete, or Delete.
On 1/4/12 I called Tech Support and asked what to do about this 2nd box having yet another DVR problem.  Once again I was asked to cycle the 120 volt AC power and disconnect and reconnect the coax "because electricity can build up in the set-top box".  (I thought that was a cute reason).  I asked the Customer Service rep if this was a Tier 2 or Tier 3 Troubleshooting method and she told me she was not authorized to tell me.
1/5/12 a Manager calls me back to follow up on a survey from the December service call and after seeing that I had a trouble ticket on 1/4 to see what is going on. He attempts to talk me into getting the on screen diagnostic screen to come up (press a mix of power and OK) but that just does not work like the old set-top box. We review the problem and he is not sure what else to do then send a Tech to the house to review the problems.  He did tell me the STB I had in December WAS a known bad number; something about an issue with ribbon cable fault going to the hard drive.  Well OK, but it seems ODD that the two like problems seem to happen to a known bad box and now to a new box that is not in the "bad" lot of numbers.  This new STB also had been running 1.9 like the old STB for some number of weeks/months without issue then BANG, a problem pops up!  It seems like this is a deeper problem but I trust with all the fact Verizon can find the right answer.
1/6/12 Aaron Phelps, Cable Splicing Technician comes to look at the problem. Nice guy!  I show him the two recorded shows that have the problem.  He can't get the on-screen diagnostic up but we use the test via the Main Menu and all readings seem OK.  He also tests signals via an external meter with good results.
At last, he calls Tier 2 Tech support and I'm told by him that it seems some bug is in ver 1.9 and we will have to wait a month for a 1.9.1 to come out that should address a memory issue in the DVR.  I don't know is this is the real story but Aaron tells me the ONLY fix they have is to swap out STB and he has no other 7232 units so... I'd have to go back to a smaller hard-drive or wait a month to see what happens.
To say again, it is a problem when the only answer in practice is to reboot the STB or replace it and this does not solve the problem.  The field Techs don't know about a software bug less they call tier 2 support.  Also, as it is so common to just replace the STB, the process may take only a moment in physical action to swap wires HOWEVER, it is an afternoon to get programming done so a new DVR is recording all the shows a Customer has established; on top of the time talking to phone Tech support and waiting for someone to show up to the home, that is a considerable investment in Consumer time.  If you can't back up the content with the local drive due to copyright issues how about a cloud approach? I'd encourage a known bug to be resolved quickly and perhaps solve the manor that a STB is backed-up and replaced.
I learn on 1/6/12 my friend had like problems:
    xxxxxx address blocked
Claire had the added problem that a pre set event she set to record change by an hour.  I've not seen this but, I see in the Forum URL below, another person had the same problem as reported by "DC-Videophile" on 01-01-12 at 08:33 PM.  On this same forum "rich3fan" reports problems that I have on 01-04-12 11:54 AM.  The very bad news would seem from "markjrenna" 01-04-12 09:29 PM where it is suggested that 1.9.1 will not be out before 1Q12!!!!  That is a long time to have this problem.

I notice with this event, when you hit fast forward, the progress bar moves forward with time then at a point it goes back to the start point, even when good video is playing in fast forward.  This program worked beyond 22 min then failed at maybe 38 min.  When I tried again, it failed at another point earlier (maybe 15 min) so it does not have a pattern.

I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.
Time to come clean. You will feel better Verizon.
    Let's talk tomorrow.

  • Waiting for a mouse click in a single thread

    Here's my problem:
I'm working on a program I didn't initially create, and I picked it up from the rough midpoint of its evolution. It is a single thread AWT program, with a mouseListener interface already implemented.
Here's my problem. In a game setting, we have two players. It is no problem when both are computer controlled. When player one is controlled by a human, I need to wait for a mouse event before returning, because upon returning player two moves (regardless of its player configuration).
I can't do any kind of busy waiting because it is a single thread. I'm looking for some kind of option besides making the program multithreaded. This also makes it difficult to use some sort of boolean variable, though I don't think it's impossible.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Eric

#9 - You are correct in your assumptions. I agree it's
not the best model, but it worked for the original
purpose, which was to have one player always
controlled by the computer, and the option of
selecting a second player as being either human or
computer. Since each move is made manually - that is,
for a move to be made, it requires user input - there
was no harm in returning from a function, because it
had no immediate computation. The requirements have
just changed, and now I must allow both players to be
selectable. This presents a problem in that I have to
wait for the move actions to finish before
    proceeding.Understood.
    >
My only question is, how can I access the AWT thread? You mentioned in an earlier post that you have action listeners. As triggered by user events, these are always called on the AWT thread. For example:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.awt.event.*;
    JButton button = new JButton( new AbstractAction {
            public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                synchronized (myMonitor) {
                    myMonitor.notifyAll();
});This button can be added to some swing UI. If clicked on, then actionPerformed will be called on the AWT thread, and any threads waiting on myMonitor will be notified.
I see what you are saying - it's almost exactly what
my coworkers told me - but I don't have the knowledge
to implement it, which is why I'm here. Creating a
monitor object isn't a problem (makeMove() would need
to be synchronized, otherwise you wouldn't be able to
call wait()),I recommend using a separate object for the monitor, especially if you are already using synchronized, so that you know exactly how each object's lock is being used. If you're sure it is safe, then there is nothing wrong with using the object itself as the monitor, as you suggest, however.
but I'm not sure what you mean by the
action handling method should be called on the AWT
thread.Just that any action listener method is always called on the AWT thread in response to user action.
