Move tracks from one project to another?

I'd like to know if there's a way to move tracks (with or without inserts, automation and other stuff) from one project to another.
I have a project containing a working mix of a song that I've spent many hours assembling. One of my bandmates sent me parts he tracked in GarageBand, two audio tracks and one track using a MIDI instrument. I imported the GB file into LE and made some edits. I'd like to bring those three tracks into my current mix.
I understand that I can bounce each track out individually, then re-import them on new tracks in the mix project, but this means turning off all the inserts and EQ on each track and blah blah blah, it seems like there must be an easier way. Being able to directly move or import the tracks would preserve my editing flexibility in a way that bounces won't.
Please, any suggestions may prove valuable.
Thank you for your time.

...let me also re-emphasize: the GB2 file was imported and converted and tossed. I am trying to move tracks from one Logic Express project to another Logic Express project.
Just to be perfectly clear.

  • Can't MOVE images from one project to another: must not understand

    Greetings,
I have two questions as a result of aperture not working the way that I have read on forums etc. and am wondering what i am doing wrong
    1) How do I MOVE images from project to project without duplicating masters or versions
    2) how do I delete versions
All of my files are referenced.
*1) moving from project to project*
I have a blue folder called "NEFs." In it, I have a default project where I just dump all of my images called "00 dump." After I dump them, I organize into other projects. So, I do the following:
    • I create a new project called "2008 Thanksgiving" inside the NEFs blue folder making it a sibling to "00 dump"
    • I go back to "00 dump" select all the images that were shot over thanksgiving, and drag to the "2008 thanksgiving" folder. The images transfer fine, but when I go back to "00 dump" I see that the images have NOT actually moved, they are now sitting in both projects. How can this be? I thought that if I move images from project to project then I am actually moving the master, not replicating a version? That leads me to my next dilemma
*2) how do I delete versions?*
Now that I have replicated photos in my "2008 Thanksgiving" project, I want to delete them since I see them still sitting in "00 dump." I do the following:
    • select the "2008 Thanksgiving" project
    • select a number of images
    • press command + delete (this is the only way to delete a file as far as I can tell
    • popup comes up explaining that if I delete this file it will delete the master too and the reference file. So, that's exactly what it does.
Deleting the referenced file is fine for many junk images, but in this case, I just want to delete the copied version that seems to be in two projects now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would really love a full understanding of how this structure works.

When you drag images and the drop target is an actual little yellow project box (not a folder, and album or anything else) the images move from one project to another, if your drop target is not the actual project but something else within another project all you do is cause the version to show up there, nothing is duplicated.
To delete a version or versions selected just use command-delete. This gets rid of the actual version not just removes it from the current album view. If it happens to be the last version of that master it will get rid of the master as well.

  • Copy tracks from one project to another

(Hopefully, I'm just missing something obvious. Programs like Final Cut Pro and PhotoShop make it very easy to have multiple projects open and copy and paste between them.)
I frequently copy tracks I like from one project to another. Although it's possible to do, it seems a given that Logic doesn't not like to have more than one project open at a time. This complicates it a bit, but I just copy the track I want, close the current project and open the new one.
I wish in the edit menu or in the track drop-down menu there was a straight forward "Copy Track" option. Since there isn't, I just select the whole track (which is essentially all the regions) and copy and then paste into new project. The problem is that it brings the content over fine, but not the track info (name, etc.)
Is there some better way to accomplish this? I don't want to export MIDI tracks as audio, so the Export option doesn't work.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I looked at the video again and unless they did some editing in FCP (which would have to be the case), the following frame after selecting the regions shows both gone simultaneously.
It is quite possible of some FCP editing but as I said first you can do that very fast using two neighbor keys so it can look as one magic shot. The screen capture tools use low FPS settings for media capturing about 15 fps for example.
I tend to occasionally put a blank track between other tracks as a separator (been doing this since the Master Tracks Pro days).
I think you can try a little trick for doing that. You can create a "Dummy" empty region inside a folder track for example, and use the folder track(s) as separator(s). I have not tried that yet, cause I'm away of my Logic but it must work this way.

  • Move Photos from One Project to Another

Is there a way to move photos and transition effects from one project to another?
    Using iMovie08
    Thanks

    @bshig
more often than not, i seem to import the images into a new project, which i don't want.
I spotted and 'solved' this one last night. I don't have Aperture in front of me just now, so I'm writing this from memory...
Open your Preferences. Look for, I think, an Import tab. There's a preference for setting the default target project which has two options (from a pop-up menu). The options are "New Project" and something like "Selected Project". Changing that over should solve your problem...

  • Copying an entire software instrument track from one project to another

    Hello,
Is it possible to copy or import one entire software instrument track from one GB 3.0.2 project to another? At the moment I've got to copy a region from one project, open another project, paste it in the 2nd project, and open the other one again (which appears to close the 2nd project) to copy the second region. This is incredibly cumbersome because I can't have both projects open at the same time.
Has anyone found a less tiresome method to do this?
    Thanks

The easiest work-around I can imagine is to join all regions of the track and copy that. Another option is to freeze the track, which will turn it into normal audio. You might also add your MIDI parts to the library. That will avoid the need to switch between projects, but does require one or two more actions.

  • Move images from one project to another

I have just upgraded from ap 1.5 to ap 2. In 1.5, when I moved an image from one project to another, the image was actually removed from the original project and placed in the new project. It has been my habit to upload all the images from a shoot into one project and then sort them into image specific projects; for example all blackbirds into a project labeled "blackbirds", all hawks into a project labeled hawks, etc. Once everything was sorted, the original project would be empty and I could delete it. This does not seem to be the case in ap 2. When I sort the images into their specific projects, they do disappear from the original project and thus I am unable to delete that project. Am I missing something?
    Thanks

I had a bit of an unusual situation. I was in fact moving images from a FOLDER to a project in another folder. Turns out that there were albums in a project in the SOURCE FOLDER. I clicked on the folder, not the project, so although moving the images did indeed remove them from the source PROJECT, they remained in the various albums in that source project, still showing up in the SOURCE FOLDER, which is what I was working from, thus the confusion. I bet I won't make that mistake again.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How to move tracks from one album to another in itunes library?

I have imported an album from my 'Vuze Downloads' folder in my 'iTunes library' but it appears in the library as three seperate albums.
How to i get all the tracks into one album as they were meant to be?
    Cheers

Make sure all tracks have the same album name and same artist name (look under Get Info) in order for them to group together. If the album is a compilation with different artists, under Get Info, mark it as a compilation.

  • How to move tracks from one course to another in a different category

Hello. I have 10 tracks that I simple uploaded into a course in the Academical Lectures category. These tracks are also smart fed into another course in the News and Events category. I would like to delete them out of the Academical Lectures course (thereby losing the course in that category) and have them live only where they are now smart fed. Is this possible without having to download and reupload all of the tracks? Thanks so much.

The "trick" is not formally documented. It also requires that you use the web service.
You can make a request in the web service called "AddCourse", which, as you might guess, adds a course to iTunes U. The AddCourse request has various optional and required settings. For example, a required setting is "ParentHandle"…a handle to the parent "Section" into which the new course should be placed. One of the optional settings is a "TemplateHandle". If you have added courses into iTunes U using the iTunes application, you have seen what a template is…it's what you see when you "Create Page…from Template 'Default Course'". Templates are that special section…it's called "Templates"…that you see when you edit your site page…they're basically "template" courses/sub-welcome pages that you can use when you stamp out a new course or sub-welcome page.
The Dave Benjamin trick basically works this way…if, when using AddCourse, you substitute the handle of a real-live course (rather than a template course), this has the effect of copying the real-live course to the destination parent handle "as though" it were a template.
If you do not know how to use the web service, you could always use a little tool I whipped up called Woolamaloo…one of the things it includes is a set of Mac OS X Automator actions…these actions wrap a good portion of the web service (including AddCourse). They do not require that you understand how to make a web service request in your own code/script…instead, you use Apple's GUI Automator tool to create and execute a web service request.

  • Move precomps from one project to another

Have Master Suite CS5, latest patches.
Have a dozen complex solids combined into a precomp in Project A.  I would like to use the precomp in Project B.   I need to modify the solids after they are imported into Project B.
Have looked at the various import/export menus and don’t see anything directly applicable.
Tried to use PP as an intermediary, but the solids did not transfer individually, so not much use for me.
    All help appreciated.

Thanks -- does work.  Was hoping you could import just components that I wanted -- something like import a specific layer from a PSD.  But I did solve the problem.  Thanks again.

  • Moving Titles from one project to another

I want to combine several iMovie projects into one, in order to create a single DVD via iDVD. The projects are fairly simple - no music, just video, dissolves, and some text.
When I select all, and then copy and paste from one project to another, the titles do not transfer. The background for the titles - i.e. black spaces - do transfer, but not the text. It seems there's no simple way to move titles from one project to another. Is there a solution or workaround, or do I simply need to create new titles in my new, combined project? Thanks.

The simplest way would be to use multiple movies in iDVD. iDVD handles multiple movies easily and will help you set up a menu if you want. Just share your movies to the Media Browser. Then open iDVD and drag them into your iDVD project from the Media Browser in iDVD.

  • Moving Files from one project to another??

New to Aperture ..and wondering is there an easy way to move files from one project to another? Or to move from one Album one project to another Album in another project if the Albums have the same name?
    thanks in advance,
    Steve

Yes, simply drag-and-drop a thumbnail from a Project to another Project; or Option-drag-and-drop (one way copies the image, the other way moves the image).
Or to move from one Album one project to another Album in another project if the Albums have the same name
Although Albums can be located in Projects, Albums are really not "in" Projects as regards where the images come from. Each album is simply a virtual collection of pointers to images; the images pointed to can be located in multiple Project(s). So just drag-and-drop a thumbnail image from any project to an album to add a pointer for that image to that album.
Although it seems complex it really isn't. Albums are a very powerful organizational tool with essentially zero overhead. Try it. Create some test albums in various ways just to see what happens and delete the albums when you are done. Since Albums consist of just "pointers" we can make/delete them at will for any reason.
Note that Albums can be deleted with no warning message because Apple figures a simple collection of pointers is not that big a deal. Personally I think Album-deleting should have a (non-dire) explanatory warning message, because sometimes an album can consist of a complex collection of pointers.
Multiple Albums should never have the same name.

  • How can i move a podcast track from one podcast to another?

I subscribe to a number of podcasts and  recenly some of them have started downloading to new podcast folders (One of them underwent a slight name change, and the others I'm not sure why). So now, some of my podcasts have two folders: one with the old podcasts and one where the new podcast download to. I want to keep all the tracks, because I reference them from time to time, but I hate having these extra folders. Is there some way to move podcast tracks from one podcast to another so I can consolidate these tracks?

    Use export/import.

  • How can I move a photo from one project to another

How can I move a photo from one project to another without creating a duplicate so I have the same photo in two projects.
I seems to me in the past when I moved the photo from project 1 to project 2, I would get a number showing the # of photos being moved and you could drag and drop in the 2nd folder and the photos would disappear from project 1 and show up in project 2. is there a setting I am missing.  Now when I drag and drop the photo no red # shows up and the photo stays in project 1 and also shows up in project 2 apparently creating a duplicate.
    Any suggestion?

Now when I drag and drop the photo no red # shows up and the photo stays in project 1 and also shows up in project 2 apparently creating a duplicate.
The projects are the basic containers.  Each image and all its versions are in exactly one project.
You can use an image in many albums, without duplicating it, also in many products like books, screensaver, slideshows.  But the projects are the basic structure of the library and you cannot have the same image in two different project, without duplicating it by storing the same original image files twice. Use albums to organize your library thematically.
Sorry, I misread your question.   Dragging an image file between projects should move the image and all its versions to the other project.  Aperture should only duplicate the image, if you hold down the alt/options key while dragging and move the image otherwise.
Which Aperture version are you using? And which MacOS X version?  Is your profile signature "MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS 9.2.x, Aperture 3.5.1" still valid?
In Aperture 3.6 on MacOS X 10.10.1 dragging between projects is still working as expected:
