Move Video clips to an new catalog on different hard drive

I currently have both video & stills in one catalog.  I would like to put the video clips into a separate catalog in a different location on a different hard drive.  How is this done?

Create your new folder and move your video files into it. Then open Organizer and click:
File à Catalog à New
Give it a new name e.g. MyCatalog2 or Videocatlog etc
Then click File à Get Photos & videos à from Files & Folders
Browse to your new folder on the new hard drive. Press Ctrl+A to select all and click open or get media.
Change back to your previous catalog and delete all the video thumbnails.

  • How do i move my iphoto library to a different hard drive

i want to move my iphot library / and photos to a differant hard drive. I have no room on my current hard drive, just way too many photos.

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • How do I convert Kodak Camera .mov video clips to Windows .wav files?

This morning I purchased Apple QuickTime Pro for ONE specific reason and this is so I can convert .mov video clips taken with Kodak cameras to Microsoft Windows .wav files. I have tried everything I can imagine so far with negative results.
I'm starting to think this may not be possible even though APPLE advertised this program as being capable of converting their .mov files to "LOTS" of the usual formats. IF Windows .wav is not a common format then what is?
If this is not possible with this program I am going to be one unhappy guy for having totally wasted $29.95 and will have a very bad opinion of Apple in my mind from now on.
DELL Dimension 8300   Windows XP Pro   XP Media Edition

Open your Kodak file using QT Pro.
Open the Movie Properties window and "Extract" the audio track.
This will open in a new window. Choose "Export" and then Sound to WAV. Name and save the file.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

  • Move PC  pse catalogs from external hard drive to Mac

My PC died, but have pse 10 catalogs on external hard drive.  How can I move them from the external drive to my new MacBook Pro?

Can I load pse 13 on the Mac, and read the pse 10  catalogs from the ehd with the mac?
I don't know about Mac specific features (I am using Windows 7), but it looks like you are using the word 'catalog' in a different meaning than the Organizer definition.
First, to have a common understanding of your situation, let's see the difference between an organizer 'catalog' and what I call your 'picture library'.
Your library is all your picture files, generally a folder tree on your disk(s).
Your catalog is a special folder managed by the organizer. Imagine you buy a catalog for a paintings museum. It's an independent booklet in which you'll find all the necessary information about all the physical paintings (the library), the location of each one, it's properties (author, size, theme, date...) as well as a small image to show the painting. You find various indexes to help you find by title, author, theme, dates... It's the same for an organizer catalog. There is a booklet (a folder) containing a database for the properties and location of the files, another for the thumbnails and other accessory files and subfolders. You find the location of that folder (each separate catalog has its own folder) by looking at the menu Help/System Information.
I understand you have a copy of your library on the new computer, but what about the catalog(s) folders?

  • Move MSN Premium Folders on your computer from old hard drive to new

Recently my computer quit and I had to install a new one. The hard drive on my old computer did not fail so all of my files are safe and backed-up, but I’m having trouble moving my Verizon MSN Premium e-mail folders and files stored on the old hard drive over to my new computer. I’ve searched the Internet and Verizon help with no luck. The usual solution found is to utilize the Microsoft Easy Transfer tool, but it requires my old computer to be functional, which it is not. I understand MSN Premium stores e-mail in a data base format in a folder named either Db or Db30, depending on the version of MSN Premium, and I’ve located my folders and files on the old hard drive. I’ve tried to copy and paste the folders and files to the new hard drive, but still can’t see the transferred folders and files on my new computer. Verizon with MSN Member Center has been no help and the link https://membercenter.msn.com connects me with Verizon In-Home Agent where I find no answer to my problem. I’ve tried to call your HELP line, but unfortunately the parties on the other end have been no help and their English is difficult to understand. I have over a hundred e-mail folders and subfolders in “Folders on your computer” and over 1,500 saved e-mails that I’d like to retain on my local hard drive. I would appreciate if Verizon could provide me with the steps required to reestablish folders and files on my new computer. My old computer operating system was Microsoft XP SP2 and the new computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium. I’ve been able to establish new folders on the new computer, but no luck transferring folders and files onto the new computer. There are software options built into the Verizon e-mail, but it is designed to move OUTLOOK, OUTLOOK Express, etc. into Windows Live and not MSN Premium. I don’t know if the issue is in the new Microsoft security area of WIN 7, my misunderstanding of how to move the folder and files or what.

It is my understanding e-mails I've saved in folders on my local hard drive are not on the server.  Rather than leave e-mail I want to keep on the server I have many folders saved under "Folders on your computer" that are save on my local hard drive.

  • How can I move one years worth of Raw photo files to a different hard drive and perserve the edits

How can I move one years worth of raw photo files to a different hard drive (to manage space) and preserve the develope module edits and still see them in  the Library module?

The easiest situation, is where this year's worth of images is grouped physically inside one parent folder (something many people build in from the start, in any case).
If there is a parent folder on disk, but you are not currently seeing that inside LR's Folders panel, you can make this visible to LR by right-clicking on one of the folders which live immediately inside that, and selecting "show parent folder". This gives you a single "handle" by which to manipulate the whole grouping.
Then it is just a matter of moving this parent folder. It's usually as simple as dragging it from one place to another inside LR's Folders panel, however this is a little more difficult when it's a question of another drive which does not yet appear there.
So an alternative method will likely prove more straightforward: physically move the whole year folder into the other drive using your operating system's Explorer/Finder. The folder (and subfolders, and all the contained images) will change with ? icons inside LR, and it all goes "offline". This is because LR's records of where everything is, are known not to currently work (the former location is now not available). But all the edits, thumbnails, keywords, collections etc are still in place because these things are still remembered in the Catalog - and the fullsize previews are still cached also.
Then right-click on the parent folder in LR's Folders (the top folder which shows a "?") and select Update Folder Location. Then browse to the other disk and identify where this folder is now to be found. LR updates all its records and the whole grouping carries on just as before, only using a new  storage location for each image concerned.

  • HT1349 I had to get a new computer as my hard drive went and lost everything. How do I get my itunes library back?

I had to get a needed to get a new computer as my hard drive died. How do I geatr my ituens library of songs back?

The easy way is from the backup you make of your computer so in case something happens you don't lose anything.
You can download some media files purchased from Apple:
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.
This will not reconstruct your library as it was.  It just puts the media back.  You will have to do playlists, ratings, etc.  If you have music from another source you will have to get it from there again.

  • Move the iBooks library to external/different hard drive?

Hi!  Is it possible to move the iBooks library from its default location on the boot drive (where the iBooks-application also resides) to a different hard drive?
Currently all my ebooks and PDF’s are kept in the default „Books“-folder in the home-library on the SSD-boot-drive of my Mac where the iBooks application is also kept by default (path:  Users/„username“/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBo oks/Books). Space is getting narrow on my SSD-boot-drive so that I would like to free up approximately 20 GB by moving the entire iBooks library to a second internal HDD-drive of my Mac or to an external USB-drive.
I have not been able to find any instructions on the internet on how to move the iBooks library nor have I been successful in any of my experiments to move the „Books“-folder. What I have tried is the following:
    1. I moved the original PDF-files away out of the „Books“-folder to a different drive and placed aliases from these files in the „Books“-folder. The result is that the iBooks-application will simply re-create a full size copy of the original PDF file in the „Books“-folder. I.e. no saving of disk space!
    2. I copied the „Books“-folder from its default location in the user library on my internal SSD-boot-drive to a second internal HDD-drive, erased the „Books“-folder at the original location and instead placed a hard link at the original location. I verified that the hard link is working and pointing to the right location on the second drive. The result is that the iBooks-application will not recognize/show any of the PDF-files at the new location. Trying to re-import the missing PDF-files into iBooks results in the message „This book is already in your library. Do you want to replace it with the one you’re adding?“. By clicking on „Yes“ the same message returns infinitely often. I.e. no successes!
    3. I repeated the same procedure as described above under 2. using the „iBooks“-folder which encloses the „Books“-folder (along with three other folders) with the same results as before. I.e. no successes!
    (path:  Users/„username“/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks)
Does anyone know how to successfully move the iBooks library to external/different hard drive?
Does anyone have links to internet discussions about this problem?
    Regards BJB

I was in on the Mavericks beta, when iBooks was introduced. You can not believe me if you want but it isn't currently possible to store the iBooks library on external storage at this time. The ebooks must be on the path ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books for iBooks to function properly. Any other method you may find to accomplish what you want will be unapproved and could break at any time.
You may submit your polite feedback to Apple here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks_ios.html

  • Switching iTunes (older version) from an old latptop with mechanical issues to iTunes on a new computer.  The hard drive, issue free, was placed in external drive enclosure.  How do I recover iTunes?

I'm trying to moves iTunes (older version) from an old latptop with mechanical issues (non working screen, keyboard, and battery) to iTunes on a new computer.  The hard drive, issue free, was placed in external drive enclosure.  This was a cost effective way instead of dumping lots of money in an outdated old laptop while I can invest it into a new laptop.  How do I recover iTunes?
I'm switching from a 3G phone to a blank 4GS in the process.  I would like to have everything that was on my 3G phone and iTunes on my new phone and computer.
    Thanks

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • How to copy catalog from external hard drive to computer hard drive to use smart previews when not connected to external hard drive?

I am very new to LR5. I have LR5 set up so that my catalog and photos are on an external hard drive. I found out that when not connected to the hard drive, LR5 cannot find my catalog, therefore, I cannot do any editing in smart previews unless connected to the external hard drive. How can I fix this issue so that I can edit photos without being connected to the external hard drive. Is there a way of copying the catalog off the hard drive on the computer hard drive or do I need to reestablish a new catalog using LR5? Does the catalog always need to be loaded on the hard drive? Thank you in advance.

Yes that is correct. The LR catalog must be on the computers internal drive. Then when you have Smart Previews enabled you can edit image without having the drive they are on connected. Then when you connect that drive the images will be updated.
Just COPY those 4 folders over to your internal drive to a folder called Lightroom Catalog that you create. Then Open LR and go to the File menu item and select Open Catalog. Browse to the folder you created called Lightroom Catalog and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file and click Open. Once Lightroom restarts open the preferences, Edit>Preferences, and on the General Tab in the Default Catalog section make sure "When starting up use this catalog:" area lists where you have copied those folders. Something like Macintosh HD/Wherever you created that folder/That folder name/Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat.

  • New OS install on a different hard drive

    Hi
First of all, I have a Power Tower Pro 225 with the Newertech G3 processor card.
What I'm trying to do is that I just got the ATTO UL3D SCSI card with two 10K rpm 73GB 68-pin hard drives and I'd like to transfer everything that's in the slow running 2GB 50-pin hard drive to the newer ones. For some reason my Mac is prone to the "finder unexpectedly quit" error. I'm just hoping that it's an old hard drive related error.
In fact, I do have the OS9 CD. What do I need to do in order to reinstall the OS9 to a newer main hard drive without the Mac forcefully restarting from the newer one?
Can I switch back and force between the OS9 with the different hard drives?
    Thanks

    Hi, synergy2000 -
I did try the Option key but it didn't work.
Many older Macs. including pre-G3 ones (original equipment), can not invoke Startup Manager by holding down Option at the start of booting booting. Reason - since Startup Manager comes up before anything is loaded from a drive, it must be available in the coding of the ROM chip(s) on the logic board. Older machines weren't coded for it.
    Is there any other way?
Yes. Use the Startup Disk control panel. Open that control panel, select the volume (and the OS if more than one is on a particular volume, such as both OS 9 and OSX) desired for the next boot, then restart. The machine should boot to that volume.
As noted by Grant, the choice made in Startup Disk will set the boot volume in PRAM, and that choice will remain set in PRAM until it is changed again in Startup Disk. It can also be reset to the internal hard drive on the original bus by resetting (zapping) the PRAM, which resets the PRAM settings to defaults.
Also, how do you duplicate the main hard drive to the second hard drive?
Cloning is not necessary with OS 9. Two ways to do suplicate it -
    (1) Open the window for your main hard drive, do a Command-A ("Select All" in Edit menu), then drag the whole collecction over to the icon of the second drive. When that drive's icon highlights (darkens), let go. Finder will copy it all there.
    (2) Drag the icon of your main hard drive to the icon of the external drive; when that drive's icon highlights, let go. Finder will copy it there, placing everything into a new folder named the same as the main hard drive. In this case "everything" includes anything left lying around on the Desktop and anything left in the Trash; those items will be placed into new, appropriately named folders inside the folder named the same as the main hard drive.
Once the copying has completed, move the System Folder, Applications (Mac OS 9) folder, Documents folder, and Utilities folder (if it is not in the Applications folder) out of the enclosing folder so they are all at the root level of the drive (visible in the window that opens when you open the drive's icon).
    <hr>
In either case, be sure the System Folder is blessed - that it displays the Mac OS glyph superimposed on top of a normal folder icon. Then check in Startup Disk control panel - if the volume you just copied the stuff to is shown, select it and restart, to test/confirm that it is bootable and healthy.
In either case you will probably need to 'fix' one or more aliases. An alias in not much more than an icon and a pathname to the original it represents. When an alias is copied to anywhere, the pathname in it is not corrected. This means that any aliases that had been part of your previous config will still be pointing to the original drive. Fortunately, when you do a Get Info on an alias, there is a button in its Get Info window that allows you to fix its pathname ("Select New Original"). Aliases that may need to be fixed include - one for Sherlock, in the Apple Menu Items folder in System Folder (unless you replaced the one put there by the OS's installer with the app itself); one or more that may be in the Application Support folder in System Folder; and any that you created yourself for your use.
