Larry Carter, can you provide system specs for users to be able to compare?
What is the amount of memory usable to the system (according to BIOS and according to XP/Vista)?
It now displays all of the 4Gigs durning post test and it shows all 4Gigs in Vista. I'm just tickled that Crossfire works with 4Plus Gigs :D I'm running vista HP X64

  • 975x PUE Bios update required?

    Hi,
I am running a 975X Platinum Power Up Edition with Award Bios version 7.4.
I want to use Windows 7 X64 bit. Do I need to update the Bios to enable Windows to utilise my 8GB ram?
I see version 7.5 was to fix the max 4Gb memory limit in XP X64 does this still apply for Vista and Windows 7.
I don't want to flash the bios unnecessarily.
    Thanks
    Steve

    Only in crossfire configurations.
Install the OS of your choice and see if there are any problems.  There will probably not be any and if there are and they are BIOS Related, you can always flash to the latest Version, if necessary.

  • MOVED: 975x PUE and Vista start up problem

This topic has been moved to Vista problems.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108609.0

Hello mscott48, From your description, it appears that Vista may have become corrupted.
I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did before becoming corrupted.
If this is the case, you would beed to perform a clean install of Vista to resolve the issue.
I'm not sure if your system will boot from a USB device, but if it will, you would need to enter the BIOS and make sure the first device is set to a USB device and then try and boot the Vista DVD from your external DVD drive.
This may create issues with the boot loader for your Linux distro, and if it does, you would have to deal with that as well.
    Just some thoughts.
Please click the White Kudos star on the left, to say thanks.
Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem.

  • 975x PUE BIOS Upgrade Success

Everyone seems to post all the negatives of their BIOS upgrades. It can make you really worry....
I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade from 7.0 to 7.2. Nothing was particularly unstable, but I plan on overclocking my E6400 soon and wanted the latest. I don't have a floppy and gave up trying to boot from CD.
    So, I:
    1) Loaded XP.
    2) Ran msconfig
    3) Disabled every app I did not need (NAV, HP manager, Yahoo Music, etc.)
    4) Rebooted.
    5) Shutdown Zone Alarm.
    6) Ran Live Update and flashed the BIOS from within XP.
Success. I personally had no issues and the system is stable. I've heard problems with flashing when your system is overclocked or unstable. My was neither.
I'm sure your mileage will vary and you need to make your own choice, but there is at least one MSI customer who didn't blow up their mobo. Now to overclock....

if it works leave it alone ... i flashed my bios three or four times allready ( betas and official ) when i had the Pentium d 805 of coarse i had the cold boot issue tho . but i allways had the original on stand by just incase ... i am using the 7.0 ( intial release ) and not having any issues with it ... you cant use live update to revert to old bios either use a floppy / cdrom or use winflash ( thats what live bios uses )

  • MS 7246 (975x PUE) = Motherboard of many woes , help if you can.... (pics)

    My setup
    MSI MS - 7246 v 2.1 (975x PUE)  bios 7.0 / 7.1/7.2/7.4
    E6600 2.4ghz w/ 4mb cache
    2x 1GB Corsair CM2 6400 (ddrII 800)
    Silencer 610w powersupply
    2x 74gb raptors Raid=0
I'll try to be as informative and brief as possible.
My journey started with a lot (not enough as it turns out) research for a nice board for the core 2 e6600. Finally choosing this motherboard after reading through the review on tomshardware.com . I'm not new to computer building, but who knows, maybe I've missed something.
I've come to find , the bios are quite horrible to say the least, with each "revision" i loose more options and less things work.
This motherboard will not clock my e6600 correctly.  In system properties / CPUZ it is displayed as a 1.2ghz proccessor.
The bios also confirms this on boot up, Displaying 297mhz (33x9) along with the incorrect DDR2 533 speed.
Here are the settings in the bios (ver 7.0, the only version that seems to work with the RAID)
    CPU FSB Frequency = 266mhz
FSB @ memory clock ratio = Auto (i believe thats 1:2 according to cpuz)
It feels like im missing a multiplier somewhere in the setup. Everything is half speed.
I've tried to update the bios to the one's ive listed , but with any other bios revision my FSB ratio option gets locked, and my raid doesnt work.
I've sent the motherboard in on RMA and its been returned, It came with the 7.4 bios flashed on to it  which means my raid wouldnt work (and still would not detect the processor correctly).
I've included some pictures of the bios settings and what its displaying, just to prove im not out of my mind!
    Any help would be great!

It seems pretty evident to me that you have a bad board. I've tried all offcial bios (and many betas) and NEVER my processor (the same as yours) was incorrectly detected.
I doubt that dissabling SpeedStep and C1E will help in any way, and if it does, that should be a sign of a faulty board, because I'm running at 3 Ghz (333 x 9) with SpeedStep and C1E enabled and all voltages auto without any problem.

  • Favor to persons with bios 7,6 on 975x pue

Blank I would want to ask the persons who have the 975x pue with bios 7,6 to activate the jmicron in ide in order seeing if she works with chip intel.
Thanks to all those who will make this pleasure me.

Okay Lucabis, here is my test report:
I am using BIOS 7.61 BETA.
I have no drives attached to the JMicron ports, but I enabled the JMicron Controller in BIOS.
I have two SATA hard drives connected to the Intel ICH7DH Controller in Non-RAID mode, and I switched the Intel Controller to RAID mode in BIOS.
After that, I rebooted the system.  The RAID BIOS status screen appeared and my two SATA Drives were listed as non-RAID disks.  I was able to access the RAID BIOS by pressing <CTRL + I> without problems.
I will not go any further with this because I don't want to risk data corruption.  If this sounds like it is worth a try, please go and test it yourself.
Now, let's try Yahoo Babel Fish on this one (Italian you said?):

  • RAID1 on 975X PUE

    Hi,
    I have the following computer:
    E6600
    4 x 1 GB GSkill RAM
    Nvidia 8800 GTS
    975X PUE
I just purchased two 500 GB Western Digital drives to do a RAID1 setup.  I would like to do two partitions on them and split the space somewhere around 150 GB / 350 GB and mirror that to the other drive.
Is there a guide to do this? Any tips?
If I remember correctly, I have the 7.2 BIOS and cannot switch it because otherwise my RAM will stop working and I don't have different brands and timings of sticks to boot up if it fails.  I have 4 GB RAM, but Windows only recognizes 3.  If anyone knows how to solve this as well, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks!

    Quote
One last question, at what point should I partition the drive?
After your array is properly set up, you should be able to to partition it like a regular hard drive.
    Quote
Will it automatically partition the other one as well?
Yes.  If everything works correctly and the partitioning software you use supports your Intel ICH7DH RAID controller, the array should behave like a regular hard drive.  Basically, it will be considered as one single disk drive.
    Quote
Is there any way to double check to make sure my RAID 1 is working and mirroring everything correctly?
Install Intel® Matrix Storage Manager as soon as Vista is up and running.  You should be able to find it here:

Btw, my BIOS is 7.1, NOT 7.2
Well, that should allow you to re-activate your JMicron Controller without problems.
Did your install the 64bit version of Vista?

  • 975X PUE SATA RAID Windows XP Blue Screen Install

    Hi,
I've just purchased a new MSI 975X PUE motherboard and am trying to install Windows on it.
I have connected 2x WD Raptor 36GB drives, and set them up in a RAID 0 array using the Ctrl+I RAID BIOS utility. I have set the SATA config in the BIOS to RAID mode, and turned off the other SATA controller... The RAID BIOS detects the array ok after it has been set up, and shows it as OK.
When I boot from a Windows XP SP2 CD I press F6 and choose the RAID Driver for ICH7R RAID. Windows tells me that it already has a driver but this version is newer, so I say to use the one on the floppy (I have tried without doing this and Windows does not detect any Hard Drives at all).
Once I have loaded the drivers it continues loading the other drivers for the setup, and then gets to "Loading Windows Setup", here is waits for a minute or so and the blue screens.... The stop code is 0x7B (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE)...
I have upgraded the BIOS from 7.0 to 7.1 (not 7.2 yet as I have read about problems with it).
I've tried various versions of the drivers from different locations, and each time it blue screens in exactly the same place... I'm beginning to get very annoyed with this as I shouldn't be expected to find my own drivers when there are ones supplied on the CD...
Is anyone able to suggest what I could do?
    Thanks
[EDIT] Also I have tried an install of Windows Vista Beta and that installed fine using the drivers from the CD...

I must say again that the problem is located in the memory modules. As suggested by Hans before, try running memtest86 first,
    http://filexoom.com/files/2006/11/1/41824/memtest86%2B-1.65.floppy.zip
and sometimes even if tests runs fine, doesn't mean that memory is OK. It just might be that that type of memory doesn't fit within your MB. As I mention before, my friend was using Corsair for his MB(getting the message INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE), and after replacing with A-Data(definitely lower quality memory), everything went fine. So, try with another memory.
As for Murphyman, when you use the yellow connector, you are using the Jmicron controller, witch asks for RAID drivers before you use the device installed on it. The blue IDE controller is controlled by Intel's ICH7DH, and no RAID driver is need. So, try connecting the DVD drive on the blue connector, and see if will work.

  • 975x PUE issues with memory

    Hi guys,
I have my old 975x running with no problems with 2GB OCZ since a really long time, everything worked smoothly and i never did any OC of any type in the board.
But nowdays 2GB is really few to keep the system and games running with no issues so i decided to upgrade to 4GB, i bought 2 Kingston modules (more precisely this ones -> http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/PartsInfo_ar.asp?root=latam&LinkBack=http://www.kingston.com/LatAm&ktcpartno=KVR800D2N6/2G,  but i have encountered problems.
The issue is that when i put the memory the BIOS shows in post 3669952K of memory, witch is roughly 3,5GB, from what i read in several threads about i take that it is a memmory allocation issue that should solve itself once a x64 OS is installed.
But the problem is that when this 4GB modules are installed the board hangs and i cant even run a install of any OS, basically the BIOS posts, i get the "updating DMI pool data..... sucess" then "press any key to boot from CD" and then just a black screen and nothing happens, when i remove one of the modules everything starts to run fine again.
    Things i tried:
    - Both modules running alone in case one of the modules is broken, both works ok as long as they are alone.
    - Another 2x2GB modules (OCZ), same results
    - yet another 2x2GB modules (8GB total filling up all slots), and shows 7,5GB and it keeps crashing.
    - Every variable in witch i can put 2 modules in the 4 slots.
    - Load bios Fail-Safe config, same results
    - Load bios Optimized setup, sme results.
I have the 7.1 BIOS version witch from MSI changelog i understand that it should work fine, still, im thinking about upgrading to BIOS 7.9 but i dont know quite how and wanted to ask first if it will solve anything cus i dont want to take the risk if no change would come.
    What could this be?
    Thanks a lot.
    edit:
Here are some caps of the BIOS information tab
    and another on post.

    Hi jack,
thanks for the reply, i've tried the clear CMOS but none of the 2 methods apply to this MB so this is what i did:
1.- Unplugged power cord and waited about a minute
2.- Press the clear CMOS button SW on the MB, and waited about one minute
3.- Press the power button to be sure as it says on the guide, and waited about one minute
    4.- Power on the system.
and this is the other thing i tried.
1.- Unplugged power cord and waited about a minute
2.- Removed the battery and waited about a minute
3.- Press the clear CMOS button SW on the MB and waited about a minute
    4.- Reinserted battery
    5.- Power on
    and then
1.- Unplugged power cord and waited about a minute
2.- Removed the battery and waited about a minute
    3.- Reinserted battery
4.- Press the clear CMOS button SW on the MB and waited about a minute
    5.- Power on
    Same results =(
I tried with 1 or 2 memory modules and the same thing keeps happening, here's a cap of the screen where it gets stucked.
What's with the 1024k OK memory testing? it keeps saying that either i put 1GB or 2GB memory.

  • SATA to SATA transfer speed for 975x PUE

hi guys, i'm using this 975x PUE currently and having this problem. when i tried to copy large data files from a SATA HDD to another SATA HDD it always takes very long time to complete. ofcoz both HDDs are internal and no RAIDS card installed.
eg : copy files about 160GB size take more than 12hrs..
i think it shouldnt take such a long time to copy such huge file. this dont happen to me in my previous pc. can anyone advise pls?

thanks hoshigami, to be honest your pc spec is as good as anyone else but i hope you have sata2 hdd and not sata1 as they are much faster than sata1 when it comes to transferring of data. also i  assume your ddr2 is ddr2 800.
when i cloned about 30gb from one hdd to another hdd it took about 25 minutes therefore 160 should not take more than 2 hours in fact much less as cloning is slower process than just copying..
as far as bios is concerned there is no parameter in which it can speed up transfer of data but what you can do is go into bios then click on default setting then click yes and save and exit. and also before copying you defrag your hdd a few times or use speeditup [link below] for further defraging.
    http://www.geardownload.com/system/speeditup-free-highly-recommended.html
also do you have  FAT32 or NTFS file management., also your hdd 7200 RpM or 5400 RPM.
i think your prob  lies with the fact you try to copy 160gb in one go by doing that large chunk of data is scattered on your hdd without being defraged.
i would first copy about 20 to 30gb then defrag hdd a few times then copy further 30gb and defrag....and so on..
to be honest i can not think of anything else . lets see what others have to say. good luck

    2GB Gskill 800mhz DDR2
    X1900XTX  (PCI-e)
    300GB HDD
    Xfi Fatality
    Windows XP And Vista
My system seems to reboot randomly when playing games.  No warning, No errors, just straight reboot.  It could be 5 mins into the game or 45mins into the game.  I have tried formatting and reinstalling windows XP Pro, I also tried installing Windows Vista Ultimate,  I made sure the voltage in the BIOS is setup correctly for the memory, I run memtest86 for almost 24 hours with no errors, I run Windows MemTest for about 20 hours with no errors, I run PRIME2004 for about 9 hours with no errors, I tried different RAM, I bought a new hard drive, I replaced the Power supply with a brand new Antec 650 watt.  I updated the BIOS.  There are games which I have played for a few hours with no reboot, Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights 1, Quake 3, Counter Strike Source.  Games that reboot the system all the time are Command and Conquer 3, World of warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online Beta, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and Neverwinter nights 2.   I have also tried installing Ubuntu, and the install goes fine, but I cannot install the video drivers, and I get a PCI error every time I boot up, the error is too quick for me to take a note of.

rma the orig gskill, corsair has always worked for me, kingston hyperX should work also, or just read through the forums for what is working for others, cheaper is not always better, it appears the 975 is picky about ram.
That would lead me to believe the MB is defective then, not the RAM. If the MB is fussy about RAM why would the onus be on the RAM manufacturer to replace the RAM until something works instead of the MB manufacturer, who is the source of the problem, to properly design their MB?
FYI I'm also having issues with my 975x PUE where it won't boot with neither my very high quality OCZ RAM nor with just basic Crucial RAM. They've RMA'd my first board and the new one fixed my original problem (wouldn't even initialize POST) only to give me different problems. MSI royally screwed-up with that board and I hope they find a solution quick because I'm not very enthusiastic about being beta tester for hardware I pay hundreds of dollars for.

  • Disabling JMicron on 975x PUE?

    Hey all,
I was reading some 975x PUE overclocking tips in the OC forum a few weeks ago, and it said something about disabling JMicron. When I went to go do that, I couldn't figure it out...
I'm on BIOS 7.4, and it seems that JMicron is doing nothing for me except slow my boot... does anyone have any quick tips?
    Thanks

The JMicron Chipset/Controller is there to offer you a 2nd IDE-port and a 5th SATA Port (that is all it does).  If you don't need any of these two ports you can safely disable that thingy.

  • MSI 975X PUE weird temps

I recently bought a 975X PUE, but I get really weird temperatures. With the DualCoreCenter app I get 42C idle. Speedfan, it displays from -125C to 90C at any time. In configuration I changed from PII diode to thermistor diode. That seemed to keep it at -25C. With Core Temp Beta 0.94 Core #0 and Core #1 I got 51C-52C idle. I am using the Intel stock cooler and paste. I used the latest version of all the apps stated above. What should I do? The board is brand new and the case has really good air conduction. Also note that I am using SMART Fan, when I disable the feature DualCoreCenter gives me temp 39C on CPU and Core Temp #0 Core 45C and Core #1 44C

Yeah I found most temp progs suck in this mobo/chipset (not sure which it is) - Dual CoreCenter gives a 10c different reading compared to all other progs (no cheating there then!) and the alarm also set off constantly even though tthere were no temp breaches.
CoreTemp has also given me wierd readings.
I use Everest Ultimate 2006 as it seems to be about right (or rather the only one which didnt give wierd readings)
