[Athlon64] MSI Diamond-D and OCZ memory compatibility

More imortant than the brand are the types of chips used.
Winbond Bh6 and -Ch5 overclock poor on a AMD64 system, or u need to set the vMem redicoulisly high.
With Samnsung and Micron chips u can get the same timings @normal voltages (2,7v).
Here is a list of chips, icw brands:
http://www.techpowerup.com/memdb/
Make sure u get Micron 5B G or Samsung TCCD chips !
Agree with Stick about the amount of memory. First of all: Windows XP (32bit) cannot adress more then 3 GB, furthermore, no way in the world u are gonna use that memory. Stick to 2GB which is more then enough, heck, 1GB is allready more then enough 99,9999% of the time.

  • MSI Eclipse SLI and OCZ Reaper 1866MHz memory OC

    Hi there!
I have a problem with my board (I think) and memory. Everytime I try to overclock my CPU to 4GHz and my memory to 1600MHz my PC restarts after few minutes in windows :/ Also if I want to overclock my CPU should I change something on that switch on the motherboard? I think it's called CPU_CLK1 the red one with white switches.
    I got this RAM: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227382&nm_mc=OTC-PricebatCA&cm_mmc=OTC-PricebatCA-_-Memory+(Desktop+Memory)-_-OCZ+Technology-_-20227382
I tried to set them at 1600MHz 8-8-8-28 (crash) 9-9-9-28 (crash) :/ And I need some help with CPU. I overclocked only AMD CPUs, and my record on X4 920 2.8GHz was 4.2 stable :P But never OCd an Intel CPU, specially i7. Can someone help me?
Oh I almost forgot... Why my mobo recognize my RAM as 1066MHz? :/

[Athlon64] Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum problems with Patriot Ram

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • Dipping my toe in: MSI X58 Pro and OCZ Platinum memory

I have been suffering (like a few I've read about here) with random crashes and such.
After doing some research and reading different fora I have come to the conclusion that I need to tweak some settings. Only thing is I am totally scared of frying my new machine.
I have downloaded the following: CPU-Z, Memtest 4.0 (by HCI Design), Memtest86+
My specs are in the signature as required.
Walk me through (please!) what you need me to do. If there is a general FAQ (I haven't poked around here too much, just reading some threads), point me to that and I'll be back for assistance
Thank you in advance for your time.

  • K9a platinum and ocz memory cas 4-5-4-15

    Hi ,
I need help and i need it fast
I have k9a platinum and i want to buy this memory:
    OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800, 4-5-4-15,
Is it compatible with my mobo and do u have opinion about this ram?
    Thanx

Well my OCZ RAM which is meant to run @ 800MHz 4-4-4-15 timings. Runs very fine @ 800MHz w/ 4-4-4-10. 4-4-4-10 works up until about 870MHz.
OCZ seem to state their timings lower then the RAM sticks can actually cope for some reason.
I'm pretty sure it'll work, but contact OCZ for a correct answer.

  • MSI 785GM-E51 and memory modules problems

Could anyone help me with one problem. I have motherboard MSI 785GM-E51 and 4 memory modules GOODRAM GR 1333D364L9/2G. But when I'm inserting ALL modules my system not starting (even POST procedure). So working variants - when I'm inserting:
    - one module in first (boot) slot
    or
    - they inserted in first and third memory slots
    Any ideas?

It is not motherboard problem, but processor itself - I have AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3,4 Ghz Core Revision C2 and this revision (according to the article: http://www.fcenter.ru/online.shtml?articles/hardware/processors/27650#02) has problems with support memory modules DDR3-1333 Mhz more than 2 modules. Conclusion - either adjust BIOS settings concerning memory timings and memory controller voltage or replace this kind of processor with the same type but with core revision C3

  • Msi Diamond and four memorycomps - problems?

I have installed four 512Mb ddr566@500 comp's and now when I have used the machine a while, winxp will pop up a blue screen. The machine will restart then (so quickly, that I can't read the errormessage).
    Before I had two 512Mb ddr566@500 comp's, without problems.
Is this board unable to handle four memorycomps, or what might be the problem? I have already ran memorytest succesful. In the manual reads, that when using four comp's, the maxium speed is ddr333? The cpu is Opteron148, with venus core.
Edit. BTW can someone say, is my PSU strong enough to run whole machine. It is Tagan 2force 480W and machine: Msi diamond, 148Op, 2Gb ram, 2x 6800 ultra, 2x hdd, audigy4 pro, 3x 120mm casefan. When I plug two more hdd's, nvidia system will show error, that power is not enough to graphic cards. The manual says, that the mainboard want 450W or more psu.

MSI always have the color code for vdimm.
It's what the vendor of the modules state for nominal voltage that counts .
If they say 2.8 i would run 2.8 or higher (not below) . 0.05 higher to compensate for voltage drops during load.
Double 6800 Ultras (stock clocked) pci-e draws something around 70w from the +12v line each in full 3D mode/load. (in idle 2D mode about 30w each)
Thats almost 6A per card , times two it's 12A just for your graphics in the highest load situation .
I'm not sure though if SLI balances toe load exactly equal , but lets assume so to be sure .
Then atleast 8-10A from +12 goes to your cpu depending on model and if overvolted/overclocked .
And consider apx. 1A +12v usage for each HDD and optical (although the use a bit more at spinup , but then the gfx's are in 2D mode) .
    1A +12v for mobo .
    Fans run off +12v .
Memory runs off +3.3v or +5.0v depending on motherboard design .
Add things up and have a rule of using a load target for the PSU @ 80% (fully loaded PSU's loose efficiancy and stability .
There is some guideline of SLI building and dimensioning of PSU you might wanna check out over at nvidia .

  • K8N Diamond plus HSF and memory compatability question

I am considering this board since I need a good onboard sound chip to utilize my front breakout box.    At this time I have an opteron 180, a Zalman 7700 and 2 gb kit of Corsair XMS TWINX2048-3500LLPRO on the way from ZZF.  I had planned on using this on an Asus A8N SLI deluxe but if the hardware is compatible I would rather have the SB onboard than the Realtek on the Asus.
Does anyone know if the Zalman will fit on this board and clear the northbridge heatsink and fan?  I had seen in another post the the MSI boards might not care for Corsair to well,  any validation on this?
    Thanks!

    Tricker61,
As you can see by my signature I am using the Diamond Plus with a full two pair of TWINX2048-3500LLPRO’s.
It was not plug them in a go, but it just requires setting the memory up manually, which is really set forward.
The only problem is that the current BIOS do not the memory to SPD values and here is a list of setting you will have to set manually.
    (1)   FSB/Memory Ratio is set by default to 1:2, which needs to be changed to 1:1.
    (2)   Memory Module Voltage Corsair spec is 2.7 – 2.9, default BIOS setting is 6.5V.  I am running mine at 2,75V.
    (3)   Corsair spec timing 2,3,2,6, BIOS Default is 2,3,2,5 so you need to set that.
As far as memory set for your Corsair memory you have they are working fine and system is stable.
You wanted 2.6 GHz; I am currently run FSB of 225 MHZ and with default multiplier of x12, which is one BIOS defaults that is correct.  My system running solid at 2.7 GHz and the memory is running DDR450, which better the Corsair spec.
Therefore, with the memory modules you should get the performance you said you wanted.  I feel with all the memory setting corrected I could running it up more, first 225 MHz is the speed I could not make with default BIOS setting and I am not and Over-clocker like you, if want a good solid fast system.
If you have not purchased a case yet, make it a big one with lots of fans.  I am using the Cooler Master CM Stacker 810 and have just moded the case to add two extra right side 120mm input fans in place of the stock 80mm fan and I am just starting to get the system temperatures under control.  With to two new fans that makes 4 120mm input fans and 120mm, 85mm and the power supplies 135mm fan for exhaust.  I have been using 120mm fan with 35 to 40 CFM each, to try and keep the noise down, but it looks like an a few more CFM to input fans and put up with the added.  But it is a nice system now, you the noise of the air flow , but no actual fan sounds, except for the Graphics Card when is cycles it fan to high speed, which much less with two add right side 120mm fans.
Hope this information helps you selecting components for your new system.
    Roger
When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

  • MSI P7N SLI Platinum and OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition

    Hello,
I have a MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i SLI motherboard and I would like to inquire if it is fully compatible with OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition memory? Firstly, I do not seem to get the correct timings with the default settings, speed is not very good, after 5 hours of running Memtest86+ there was 30 errors. I have never had the memory crash and games seem to run fine, but the memory feels much slower than it should be. Is the memory supposed to work fine with this motherboard and I'm just imagining everything? I don't know if I'm also supposed to be worried by the errors Memtest86+ returned?
Thank you in advance for any help.

    If memtest returned errors, yes
Well, there does not have to be a problem with the memory just because it returned errors. There could be many other explanations why there are errors.

Jacobl, please post full system specs.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< to get an idea of the details you should provide.
How many modules of what capacity do you have?  What are your current RAM-related BIOS settings?
If you have more than one stick of RAM, please test each stick seperately with memtest86+ and see if the errors are caused by one of the sticks only.  Otherwise there is no way to tell if there is a compatibility problem or just a faulty memory stick.
Please post a link to the OCZ product site and also a screenshot of the CPU-Z "SPD" tab.
    I have this memory: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_sli_ready_edition_4gb_dual_channel.
This is the rest of the components as instructed by the forum post you linked to:
    Intel E8200
    MSI P7N SLI Platinum
    OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition 4GB Dual Channel
    Gigabyte Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI
    500GB Western Digital SATA
    SATA DVD burner
    Windows XP SP3
    Antec 500W PSU
I usually troubleshoot components step by step - eliminating all possible reasons until I have found the solution. My first step was to post here to find out if there are any known compatibility issues with the motherboard and memory. I adjusted the memory timings with a slight overclock because the motherboard did not load the default timings by default. I will start by adjusting the BIOS settings, check if the memory is inserted into the right DIMM slots and then test the memory sticks one by one. But to answer my own question: I think the motherboard and memory should have no compatibility issues and it must be something else.
Quote from: Freestate on 07-September-08, 23:06:36
I have the OCZ 6400 Fatal1ty modules 2x2 GB that is very similar of the ones you ask.And they are running perfectly but i must set the epp latency and voltaje values in BIOS! The simple modules of ocz are in the memory compatibilty list i thought that the SLI and Falal1ty modules are just the same with a little boost.
I had to set the right timings also. As far as I know, the SLI and Fatal1ty modules are probably the same, just with a little boost. I think it would be very strange if a module with the name "SLI-Ready Edition" and a Nforce 750i motherboard would not be compatible together.
Anyway, any other advice on what steps I should take? I assume by now that the motherboard and memory should work together without problem. Sorry if I started out bad by not following the posting guidelines on the forum.

  • MSI P965 board and 4 gig memory....

Does the hardware on the P965 Platinum board support 4 gig memory? MSI says "up to 8GB memory size (with DDR2 800, memory only up to 4GB)" and it sounds good, but did anyone actually tried four gig or more with this board?
It's not related, but my T60p laptop shows only three gig when four gig is installed; I just don't want to buy memory for nothing twice in one month...

I am not saying that I fully understand the whole adress space thing.  I just tried to share what I have understood from reading about the whole 4gb matter so far.
Here is another example of what I tried to point to in trying to offer an explanation on the basis of the assumption that this is not really some sort of bug:
    http://members.cox.net/slatteryt/RAM.html
Thanks for the link and most certainly I don't fully understand the "whole address space thing" either. I still say that my tech (I need to ask him tomorrow) did call Lenovo and they did say that the current hardware does not support more than 3.2 GBs of memory. Here's another link from UK that discusses this issue. Quote from the link:
"So if you chose your motherboard wisely/flukily, all 4GB will be available to you. However, if you're unlucky you'll find your memory map looks like this:
    Address         Contents
    0x00000000 - 0x3fffffff   Memory
    0x40000000 - 0x7fffffff   More memory
    0x80000000 - 0xbfffffff   Even more memory
    0xc0000000 - 0xffffffff    Memory-mapped devices
0x100000000-0x3ffffffff   Where the *?#! did my last GB go?
Notice that only 3GB of the 4GB that you purchased made it into the memory map. So that last 1GB is unavailable to you. And don't think you can dust off that old copy of QEMM - this isn't memory which is hiding somewhere, and which you can coerce the OS into using, like in the good old days. Well...the old days. No, this memory is quite simply invisible to the CPU. If your motherboard is in this category, there is no physical way the CPU can get access to that memory. (In fact you'd probably find that the top 4 address bits of the processor aren't actually connected up to anything!)
What's particularly galling is that certain motherboards are advertised as accepting up to 4GB of memory, and yet won't let you use the last 1GB! ("Oh, you were expecting to use all 4GB. Sorry, we only guarantee that the motherboard will work when you put 4GB in.")"
I still blame the OEMs for this and not the software....

  • MSI 7220 (Diamond Plus) and 7800GT/7900GT issue

So I bought the Diamond Plus and the MSI NX7800GT a few weeks ago.  Everything set up fine, no problems.  I start playing some games, mostly City of Heroes/Villains, and I notice a graphics issue.  Objects in the distance are "Z-fighting".  It looks as if the Z-buffer's precision is low.  I have tried AquaMark3 and I get the same issue, low z-buffer precision.  So I sent the video card back, got an EVGA 7900GT.  I still have the same exact issue, which never gets better/worse, the problem is always exactly the same.  I have tried the card in both PCIe 16x slots and have done a full RAM test.  Bios is 3.0A (no difference with 1.0 or 1.16)
Can anyone out there with this Mobo and a 7800GT or 7900GT run AquaMark3 (http://download.guru3d.com/aquamark3/) in demo mode.  The demo starts out following a ship, in a few seconds you go up and over a tiny hill and see a vast scene in front of you.  Off in the distance, do you see geometry intersecting in an odd way?
I've not noticed any problems in Quake4, Doom3 or 3Dmark, so maybe it's a DirectX only issue.  This is extremely frustrating, because I can't imagine what the problem could be.  System is completely stable and I have no other problems.
Thanks in advance if anyone out there tries the demo

    OI,
As you can see from my sig i have a similar set up.  I use antec PSU. The issues your talking about are Likely due to a combination of things not Just one.
First of all are you setting your nvid drivers to the game you are using instead of global settings.
Also what are your amp ratings on your PSU.
Also what are running in your back ground.  How many processes?
Have you defragged that drive since your last install?
    Have you run dxdiag?
are you using the latest dx version?  One came out just recently.
I appreciate all the feedback guys, and as far as these questions, I have tried on 2 clean installs (winxp pro, and winxp x64), and have the same problem.  Nothing else running whatsoever, everything updated, etc.  It's got to be a hardware issue, and since it's a graphics problem that I've experienced with 2 cards, you guys must be right, it must not be getting enough power.  I chose this PSU because Tom's Hardware used it in their test setup with this board (didn't realize it was such a sensative issue).  I'll keep messing with it for another day or so.  I'll be quite happy if it's just the PSU and I don't have to send the mobo in for replacement.
    Thanks again

  • P6N Diamond problems and questions

OK first here is the set up
    P6N Diamond

    4GB OCZ DDR2 800
    Raptor X 150GB C drive
    Raptor 74GB D drive
    250GB WD SATA
    GF 8800GTS 640MB
Coolermax 850W PS 412 volt rails 28a on two of the rails
    Windows Vista ultimate 64
I loaded windows on the bare Raptor and it installed Reboot after install and loaded drivers from CD for chipset. Reboot and installed other drives. Now the fun begins...
I was able to install the Video driver downloaded from nVidia's website. But the system hangs constantly It doesn't matter what your doing driver install, windows update or just looking into drives. It starts the operation then it sits with just the fan running for about 5 or more min. then it starts working again. I haven't found any posts here with a similar problem so it must be something I did. My local store did advise a windows reinstall.
Second problem the RAM is seen by the board as 677 not 800. The manual is very unclear on how to change that. I did pick up some Corsair XMS RAM to use instead of the OCZ to make sure it's not a RAM problem. I also tried 1 stick of RAM as well.
Is there a BIOS setting guide for this board anywhere? Also do I need to update BIOS?
Thanks for any help in advance.

    Snowfalcon,
You can go to MSI's website, look in "downloads" and download a complete owners manual in PDF format for the P6N Diamond.  It contains a bios guide.  As far as the memory..you will probably have to increase the memory voltage in order for the bios to run it at the rated frequency, on my OCZ Platinum 6400s I run it at 2.1 volts to get the 800mhz rating. You may not be able to run all 4 gigs, I recommend using no more than 2 sticks in slots 1 & 3 until you get the OS loaded and running stable.  Oh, and dont "enable" the onboard audio until after all other drivers are loaded up.  Then you can load the Creative X-Fi drivers and software.  These suggestions work for WinXP..there are other threads in this forum concerning/specific to Vista installs.   Good luck.
