Alright, right now im running a MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard with a Venice 3000 processor and 4x512 sticks of GeIL Ultra DDR500 ram.  A few weeks ago i started researching the whole deal with 4x512 sticks of ram and AMD64 processors.  I realized since i had a venice core i could run 200mhz at 2t timings, so no big loss. Then i realized the gig i was already running was at 2t timings, so i figure i would more likely either see the performance stay the same or possibly increase under the circumstances.  So got the new ram and threw it in.  I went into the bios and everything was set like it was with the one gig at 2.4.4.7 at 2t timings except the bios had knocked the ram down to 166mhz.  So i switched it to 200mhz and off i went.  However, my fps and performance started dropping off running all 4 sticks.  My 3dmark03 score went from 6169 to 5500 and i started getting hickups in BF2.  I switched it back to 166mhz and performance remained the same.  So i switched it back to 200mhz and relaxed the timings all the way to 3.5.5.9 and started gradually tighting them.  I got them running at 2.3.3.6 but performance still did change but by maybe a few points in 3dmark03.  So then i updated the bios to 1.b and set everything once again and got a 5665 in 3dmark03.  Right now i've got the ram running at 2.7v, 2.3.3.6, 2t timings, and 200mhz prime95 stable but its not making a difference.  Someone help! Can the nforce3 ultra motherboards not take advantage of the venice cores ability to do 200mhz at 2t timings?  Is there any thing else that could be causing it?!

    Hello,
In the BIOS you must set the FSB:DRAM ratio to 1:1.
Set the HTT (hypertransport Ratio to x4)
Set the CPU ratio to x4 (just too see if it will work.)
    Set the FSB to 250Mhz
    Set the Vcore to 1.45v.
Set the memory timings to SPD (or default values for DDR500)
Set the memory voltage to 2.7v, 2.75v or 2.8v.
    Save and exit
Then let it boot from the memtest bootdisk.
Use memtest to see if it is ok, test for a long time, over 1 hour.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.55.1/memtest86+-1.55.1.floppy.zip
Tight timings and high FSB is even better
I have the same problem I can go as high as fsb 219 without tweaking anything but the FSB. My system is about the same only my ram is ddr 400 so what should my mem volt and timg should be set to?

Are you using CoreCenter to overclock? What version is your BIOS? Post system specs.
Quote from: tahuru on 25-May-05, 14:24:45
the overclocking is done solely in bios.
Anyway, there seems to be different problems relating to waking up from sleep, I know that Cool'n'Quiet would stop working when I would wake up from sleep. I'll try overclocking mine a bit and I'll get back to you.
Also, check that the Save/Clear CMOS jumper is in the right position.

Yes, it will fit and it is working very good
The only problem I could think of is that higher memory modules, like the Corsair Pro with leds) might not fit ... with "normal" modules there is no problem.
    thanks!
    now I'm a happy boy
I have "normal memory modules" so thats cool :p

    Hi,
Can you start from a floppy disk, or at least get into BIOS (you probably will need a new install of Windows)?
Try to start with a simple configuration: FDD, HDD, 1 stick of memory, video card - remove the rest for now ... reseat the components that you will use (starting with video card, then memory, finally CPU - check thermal grease) and check connections.
Try with the board out of the case (shortcircuiting may occur when the board is not placed correctly, check the stand-offs under the board)
Let us know how things are going!

    hello Colin,
What you are seeing when your screen goes black with the cursor flashing at the top is a legacy from the old DOS booting days. If you had an older motherboard that still offerred ISA slots, you could put in an old ISA video card and see what the system BIOS is trying to tel you. If I remember right it's message would be the same as your D bracket.
Can't help you much except suggest that you keep asking MSI tech support for assitance. They should be able to seng you a new CMOS chip to insert in your board at no cost since you use their recommended procedures. They have done so for others. Just make sure you are not overly  aggressive when dealing with them.
If this does not work  then see theis web site and  consider bying a new chip for your board. http://www.flashbios.org/catalog/index.php?cPath=22&language=en&osCsid=975ee1b8be41cdf61aa2feba67385bb2

If you intall windows with only Hd Sata 200 Giga Seagate in Sata 3 connected
    you dont need to F6
if you install XP With Both HD Connected then you need to F6 x 2 and load both Raid & Sata drivers.
the error you are getting Quote
Boot System Failed. Put Another disk and press Enter.
seems to be because you havnt got a bootable disc in the CD
This causes the boot process to halt
    Try changing Quote
The priority to boot the devices is:
    Floppy
    Cd-Rom
Hard Disk (don't have scsi or sata to choose in bios)
    to :-
    Floppy
    Hard Disk
    Cd-Rom
and see if that works any differently
    hope this is  some help

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum - SATA1/SATA2

I've seen some concerns on the forums about SATA1/SATA2 not being stable on this board.  Is this still a valid concern if I do not overclock my machine? I plan on using a 300GB SATA Seagate on SATA1 as a drive where I will store my backups.  I'll use an external USB 2.0 cabinet for the 300GB SATA drive if reliability is going to be a problem.
    Your thoughts are appreciated,

I think all you said is very odd  as i've succeeded in o/cing my 3800+ x2 at 10 x 233 whereas i plugged my Western Digital serial ata Hdd on serial port 1, and i'm not running any instability pbs or overheats, am i lucky or is it due to the latest official bios version ??
Then how long have you OCED it? but be aware then you might screwed it out but just in matters of time.
I agreed with Syar's explanations as ocing the system at that range may caused instability. However, I do experience on my own as I did screwed my HDD SATA WD where I've OCed at 225-230 my HDD is totally burn due to the OCing.

[Athlon64] Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum problems with Patriot Ram

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • 4x512 Dimms @ 400DDR @ 1T on K8N Neo2 Platinum NForce3...

just wondering if someone here managed to get 4x512 Megs Dimms @ 400mhz @ 1T on K8N Neo2 Platinum NForce3 running on a64 3000+ Venice flawlessly...
    Thank you in advance

    Quote from: bejon2000 on 25-October-05, 19:40:25
The enhanced Venice core basically made it possible to run 4x512 at DDR400 speed ( used to be 333mhz for some early cores ).
I´ve ordered a new 146 Opteron for socket 939 and it will be interesting to see if these "quality" cores handle RAM the same way as Venice or if they do it in a better way.
Be sure to post your findings when you install your spanking new Opteron

  • Using RAM slots 3&4 (vice 1&2) on a Neo2 Platinum

I was having some issues that seemed RAM related so I ran Memtest and it showed one stick with lot of errors, but the other seemed fine.  I only ran it on each stick for a short time because I got 34 errors in 20 seconds on one stick, but the other was error free for about 10 minutes.
I pulled the bad stick (temporarilly running 1x512) and everything was fine for one day, but I just got another memory dump BSOD.  Now this stick shows errors.
I'm curious if maybe Dimm1 on my board could be eating my RAM.  I've already got 2x1GB sticks on the way.  Should I just put them in slots 3&4 and not worry about slot 1, or am I asking for more problems that way?  Also, has anyone heard of Neo2 Platinums's destroying RAM?
    Complete specs in sig.

You can run two dimms in slots 3 & 4 as an alternative to slots 1 & 2 according to Jim Flynn who seems to know what he is talking about here:       https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=88800.0
Do you get errors in MEMTEST with slots 3 & 4?
The errors in memtest require some troubleshooting with the assistance of CPU-Z which will tell us the SPD and actual operating timing values of memory (cas, tras etc) for each slot on the SPD and MEMORY tabs.  What voltage are you using for your dimms?  Are you overclocking?
You might not want to insert your new memory until you figure out what is going on with your slots, as I imagine a faulty slot (and maybe faulty configuration too) could damage memory.
Post CPU-Z and MEMTEST results for slots 3 & 4 and maybe one of the memory gurus here will lend a hand.  I believe errors in tests 5 & 7 are timing errors while the rest are bad ram.
    Good luck.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum RAM problem

    My spec:
    AMD64 3000+ Venice
    1gb RAM Elixir
    1 x Maxtor 120gb IDE
    1 x Maxtor 200gb SATA
    1 x Maxtor 200gb IDE
    ATI Radeon x800 pro 256mb
I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard, the problem is that when I try to add in another 512mb stick the system won't even boot up. I have tried other brands and amounts but still to no avail.
I boot the system up and the monitor won't even switch on, but if I take out the 512 stick it works fine.
    Any ideas?

    Not quite.
    Use the color codes .
If you have matched sticks in density (size) and timings (spd data) you can run dual channel.
This means having one stick in memory channel 1 ( green ) and another in memory channel2 (purple )
Theese are physically wired next to eachother on the motherboard , from cpu and upwards..
You can not do that , with that mismatched modules the cpu can't initialize it's memory controller .
So your only choice is to run two modules with single memory channel config .
Use the colorcodes to make sure you use signgle memory channel config (since you have mismatched sticks and the A64 memory controller cant run those in dual mode)
So your choice is to use either both green slots or both of the purple ones .
Place the one module with the higest cas rating (slowest) in the green slot with the lowest slot number (marked on the board) .
And the other stick on the green slot that remains .

XL's is verified by anand to top at 2-3-3 on DDR466 so this would be how much of a oce on a 3700sandy at those timings.
Well the 3700 San Diego har a max multilplier equals 11 and you can use the lower ones also .
So you have more options than one to reach say you set a goal for 2700mhz assuming you have air cooling (2.7ghz seems to be what most aim for without extreme cooling)
HTT reference clock at 233 with memory index 200 times multiplier 11 gives 2530mhz on the cpu and 233mhz/466DDR on the memory .
To maintain same memory speed (around or below 233mhz) with higher cpu frequency you must use a divider by setting max memory speed to 166 etc and use a higher HTT clock reference .
    E.g
    HTT=270
    Multiplier=10
    Memory index=166
    Gives CPU/12 divider
    CPU is then 2.7ghz
    Memory speed = cpuspeed/12 = 2700/12 = 225mhz or DDR450 .
    Multilplier memory index dividers:
    7x with 133 : cpu/11
    8x with 133 : cpu/12
    9X with 133 : cpu/14
    10x with 133 : cpu/15
    11x with 133 : cpu/17
    7x with 166 : cpu/9
    8x with 166 : cpu/10
    9X with 166 : cpu/11
    10x with 166 : cpu/12
    11x with 166 : cpu/13
    7x with 183 : cpu/8
    8x with 183 : cpu/9
    9X with 183 : cpu/10
    10x with 183 : cpu/11
    11x with 183 : cpu/13
    7x with 200 : cpu/7
    8x with 200 : cpu/8
    9X with 200 : cpu/9
    10x with 200 : cpu/10
    11x with 200 : cpu/11
( with 200 you will se the divider is the same as multiplier , thats why some calls this 1:1 )
There are also some tables for the dividers made by orcar wu over at extremesystems in this thread:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=41595&highlight=a64+divider+table]
Using this calculation you can figure out your ram frequency before trying it in the bios .
E.g use 183 mem index/divider with cpu multiplier 10x with 2.7ghz as the target .
    10 x 270 = 2700
    memory will run at
    2700/11 = ~ 245mhz or DDR490
