Nope. Didn't work.
I can try things all day but this doesn't make sense. Surely someone knows what bios settings are required (especially on the MSI board site) to set the bios on a MSI 945p platnium motherboard. I have the sata drive plugged into the Sata 1 connector and bios still says it is ide channel 4 master. The computer will boot with just the sata drive plugged in but the problems start when I plug the ide drives in on ide 1 or 2 or 3.

    I have just installed a 945P Platnium mother board with a Pentium 4 3.4 extreme with HT tech.
    I have 2 GB of memory, nvidia 1 gb video 9800 GT, I have 2 IDE hard drives: WD 320 GB(C:) and WD 120 GB (E:) and a CD/DVD drive (F:). I installed a WD 500 GB SATA drive on SATA 1 and the two IDE hard drives on IDE 1 on the same cable with the 320 GB as master and the 120 GB as slave. The CD is on IDE channel 2 as the master.  I have cloned the IDE 320 (c:) to the 500 GB Sata which is now the boot drive (c:).
    I have been able to boot the computer but the CD/DVD drive doesn't show. If I unplug the the hard drives and reboot then the CD/DVD drive shows up.
    My question is: I want the single 500GB sata as the boot drive (c:) (don't need RAID?). I want the two IDE drives with the 320GB as drive (e:) and the 120GB as drive (whatever) and the CD/DVD drive to show up as (F: or whatever).
    I don't know what settings in the bios I need to be working with. I have been experimenting but would like the correct way to set the bios up.

    Hi,
    I'm a newbie to PC assembly so please pardon my ignorance.
    I am trying to install 1 SATA harddisk + 2 IDE harddisk and a DVD Writer on my MSI 865PE NEO2-PLS.  I have tried playing around with the BIOS but this does not seems to work. Can anyone advise on the possibility and the BIOS settings?

    Until you get Windows installed, only hook up the drive you plan on running windows on.
    Since you have 3 PATA devices you have to use Native mode.  The Native settings given by NovJoe are for booting from a PATA drive. If you decided to use the SATA drive, change SATA only to PATA only and make sure both PATA Keep Enabled and SATA Keep Enabled are set to Yes

  • [Athlon64] CAN'T SEE SINGLE SATA DRIVE / K8T NEO no Promise controller

    I have a K8t NEO -the cheapskate version with no PROMISE SATA controller or on-board Firewire
    I have been running on XP SP2 on 2 IDE drives, everything is ok.  I added a SINGLE SATA drive and turned the VIA SATA controller on in BIOS. I did the MSI Live Update and have the latest VIA SATA driver, latest chipset, latest BIOS, latest EVERYTHING. At boot, the VIA SATA controller reports my Hitachi SATA as Channel 0  Primary"  in the SATA devices table.  Going into the SATA RAID menu it tells me "You can't make RAID with just one drive"  which is true, of course.  But the point is the controller SEES the drive.
    I've run MSI Live Update and have the latest BIOS, latest SATA XP driver, latest EVERYTHING.
    Windows XP doesn't see the SATA drive.
    In XP  I see a VIA RAID CONTROLLER in Hardware / Device Manager  which is DISABLED.   When I right-click then click ENABLE on the VIA RAID CONTROLLER  the machine reboots immediately.  I tried safe mode, same thing.  I tried BIOS settings of "No PNP O/S Installed"  and "Yes PNP O/S Installed"  and reset the NVRAM.  No change.
    I think there must be an IRQ conflict....  I have a sound card (on-board sound is turned OFF in BIOS) and AGP video card, and that's it- no WiFi NIC or anything else to eat up IRQ resources. I use the Realtek on-board ethernet.
    I tried my Windows 98 partition and that booted, detected the new hardware (VIA SATA) and I installed the driver from the MSI CD  and Win 98 is happy with the SATA drive..... it sees the drive just fine.
    How do I make Windows XP see the SATA drive?

    Have you tried starting XP with CD and entering recovery, log on as admin and see if SATA drive is there? Remember to "F6" with a floppy drive of SATA drivers for
    -XP-... I'm assuming you already have as you said all is uptodate.  When the boot BIOS for the VIA SATA apprears and you press "TAB" I believe it is, you can mess with the SATA functions. Sorry if does not apply to your compy or you've already done all this.... BTW you CAN run a RAID array with one HDD, at least thats what I did on my Promise controller.
    In my Device Manager under Disk drives it looks like this (notes bracketed are noting position):
    Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk Device (Bus Number 0, Target ID 1, LUN 0 (G:\ 1-160GB IDE Seagate/notice ONE drive)

    Under the boards BIOS, is the SATA drive listed under the BOOT table??? In my system it lists the above 5 partitions (7 HDD's total), floppy, 2 CD/DVD drives, etc...
    Oh also in Device Manager IS the VIA SATA controller appearing in the "SCSI and RAID controllers" tab??? I have set mine to just SATA before and of course now it says "VIA SATA RAID Controller"... for you it should read "VIA SATA Controller". Remember there are 2 different drivers for the SATA controller, one for SATA and one for SATA RAID. Look on your floppy disk or if you saved out the updated driver. I made a new floppy with the latest XP drivers. When booting from WINXP CD, and promted for "F6" and press it, later it will show you TWO different drivers after reading the floppy disk for XP. You obviously want the non RAID driver... hope that helps somewhat... g'luck

    Can I attach a single Sata drive on either ser3 or ser 4 on the Promise controller?
    Or does it always have to be 2 drives in raid config...
    My main os is setup on RAID0 on the INtel ICH controller above on the mobo.
    I change the promise to SATA only in Bios.
    Not coming up in Windows...
    I just overcame a nightmare of having one HD fail as RAID0 on the promise and moved the structure with clean OS install on the ICH controller.
    I just now want my sata 500 singe drive to connect.
    When I had the RAID0 OS on the Promise, I was able to have the single SATA drive on SER2.
    that was then this is now.

    AND I already have data on my ESATA drive so I do not want to "reformat" it here as stated.
    I can't even see it in disk management.
    Q: I've installed a new SATA HDD, I can find it in Device Manager but it doesn't appear in Windows Explorer at all! HELP!!
    You need to format the HDD, not just SATA but also PATA HDD then only Windows Explorer can see it and assign it with a drive letter. To format a HDD, right click on My Computer, select Manage, look for Disk Management. You should see a no-drive-letter unformatted drive there in the list. Get it formatted by right click on it and choose the obvious option there is.

  • Suggested K8T Neo BIOS settings for CL 3 Kingston Value RAM

    G'evening!
    I'll be putting together a system with the Athlon 64 3000 and K8T Neo board and had a question about optimal BIOS settings for paired Kingston non-ECC DDR 3200 RAM (2x512mb) that's CAS 3.  Should have gotten some CAS 2.5 probably but this is what I have for now so in it goes.  I'm reading the quick users guide and noticed that you can manipulate the CAS, TCRD, TRAS, and TRP.
    First question:  Will the board's auto detect do a good job in picking out a stable configuration?
    2nd question:  If you had to or wanted to make manual settings, what would you suggest?  The CAS value is rather easy since I guess it should be set to 3 but what settings would one pick for the others?
    And if I still have your attention...
    The other things that will be going in the system are the infamous Maxtor 120 gig SATA HD, a XFX 5900FX video card, Lite-On combo burner.  Powersupply is an Antec Solution Series 400W PS.  After reading the forums for a bit I get the impression that you shouldn't forget to load the SATA Promise drivers so the HD will get recognized.  My SATA drive will be the only drive in the system and will of course be the boot drive.  Any other possible pitfalls or problems I should know about with the Maxtor SATA's and the K8T Neo board?
    Also, I had thought I read from a review that the Zalman Al-Cu CPU heatsink/fan will fit on this board.  Of course after seeing it in my hands for the first time I thought that it was a pretty damn big heatsink.  Anyone else using this heatsink? (haven't taken it out of the packaging yet so that's why I wanted some impressions).
    Thanks for any advice you can give me.  It's been a bit of time since I built a computer and I'm sure there's alot of basic things I'm relearning along with the fact that the Athlon 64 is fairly new technology.  On the other hand, when it's running smoothly...

  • How to install Windows XP on a single SATA drive?

    I am trying without much success to use a single Maxtor 200 GB SATA drive in a non-RAID configuration running Windows XP Home SP 2+. I obtained documentation from the MSI Download site that explains how to do such a thing. However ...
    First, out of the box the Drivers & Utilities CD is useless -- can't read it, simply hangs the CD drive.
    Second, the drivers from the Download site (IATA_ICH5R) return "incompatible hardware. software not supported on this chipset" messages.
    So where do I get the drivers required to install Windows XP on a single SATA drive (to use at point F6 in the Windows XP installation)?

    I just wasn't sure if I was really getting "SATA" performance, etc. without specific drivers.

  • Solved - settings to get SATA drive recognised

    Have a K7N2 Delta series board for AMD processors and connected a sata hard drive to the board into the SATA 2.  The computer will not recognize the drive.  I am guessing I have to change a setting in the cmos on boot up but not sure what to do.  Running win XP.  Can you give me an idea what settings need to be?

    ok, I need to explain better.
    I have right now two drives in computer that are connected IDE and are master slave set up and run great on the computer.  I have two more internal drives not hooked up to computer and I wanted to use one of them in the computer as extra storage and both are SATA drives.  So I want to connect one of the two I listed to the SATA connection 1 on the motherboard.  When I tried with both extra drives, I did not get either recognized by computer.  Both the extra drives are Western Digital and SATA drives.  I only want to use one of them, but felt I better list them both just in case you thought one or the other might not work with the board.  One is faster then the other and would prefer using it.  I guess I need to know the jumper settings for the SATA Hard drive I want to plug into the SATA plug on the board and if putting a jumper setting on the sata drive is necessary and also do I have to make any changes in the cmos settings (the settings you get to when you hit delete on the keyboard before the computer boots up with windows) to make the computer recognize the SATA drive or with a jumper setting should the computer just do this on its own?  I am giving examples of things because this is the way I see them so please don't take offense.  I could be wrong in their function.  I hope this explains better.  Thanks.

    How do you mean? If your CPU is correctly recognised, and operates at its native speed of 2.3ghz, then you're getting the most out of it.
    Does your system work without issues? Does it do everything you require of it, and do it well?
    If yes, and yes, then stop fretting and enjoy your system, instead of trying to look for problems that aren't there.
    Of course, if you want to try and push your system further, then you'll have to start overclocking. But we have a whole seperate area for that here, and you should post your questions there.

    you know, I have the exact same thing.  I have a Samsung SATA HDD connected to SATA1 (I am not o'cing), and the green arrow shows up.  When I try to go into properties (right-click), It does not give me the option of "hiding" it.  Odd indeed.
    And to the original post question, yes, no problems running single SATA as detailed here in the responses.

    Can someone tell me what the best BIOS settings would be for my KT3 Ultra2 running a Geforce4 ti4200?
    I get crappy scores in 3dMark2001 SE and I have the infamous stuttering/crashing problems in 3D games.  I've tried pretty much every configuration of settings and drivers I can think of.  
    I saw on these forums that the Kt3 Ultra2 can be a bit fussy with GF4 cards.  If someone could post the best BIOS settings for performance and stability I'd be eternally grateful.

    a 128 mb ram consumes around around 8 to 10 watts

I would like to know the settings that would give me the highest performance, without causing any instability, using my present system and usage. My son does 3D animation and gaming on this computer. This is a stand alone computer (no network). The latest version BIOS for the KT4V offers an option in Power Management Features to enable CPU HALT Command Detection. I heard that this would work better than Cooler XP in cooling the CPU. I enabled it and my CPU Temp dropped 6-10 degrees C. Is this recommended? What is the down side of this action?
