What works good on one board doesn't always work on another.
Take a look at the other user signatures on this and other forums and look for users with the same motherboard, see what memory they're using.
Don't mix and match memory, pick a brand and part number and stick with it. If you change brands, or part numbers within a brand, change ALL
of your memory to that brand/ part number.
If your running dual channel, buy matched pairs,  They're matched at the factory to work together, and will have closer to identical specs than two sticks
you buy separately.
Check your memory manufacturer's website for compatibility with your motherboard (OCZ doesn't list your motherboard on their site, but it's a new board , so it might be worth a call).
Search for reviews of your motherboard or the memory your thinking about purchasing and see if any of the sites have used your motherboard and/or memory for a review.
If it's a popular motherboard, odds are somebody will be using it as a test bed,  If your lucky, they used or reviewed the memory your interested in, on your board.
Hang out here for a bit and see if anyone is using or tried your motherboard/memory combination.

hi there, please bear with me as i am pretty new to building computers, i recently bought and installed a 25.g phenom, and a dka790gx platinum board.
i also have a radeon 3850 hd card installed. since doing this, formatting my hard drive and using a clean install of windows vista i have been plagued with programs crashing, one or two blue screens and other such instability. i only have 3 1 gig ram sticks installed, do i need to use pairs? i ran the windows memory checker as i play world of warcraft and when that crashes it said memory could not be wriiten, or read, on two diff occasions.
i would really appreciate some help on this. firefox seems to be a program that has a lot of problems, as does windows live messenger and yahoo messenger, these problems do see intermittent though.
    regards, and hoping for help.

  • Problems after BIOS update on DKA790GX Platinum

    Hi,
I have set up a pc with the DKA790GX Platinum (MS7550). The config:
    - Phenom 8750
    - Silverstone 400W PSU (fanless)
    - 2x2GB Crucial PC5300
    - Pioneer Blu-ray
    - Seagate Momentus 5400.4
    (this is a HTPC setup...)
The pc started up fine and I installed the OS. I had the board connected to my monitor through HDMI.
After updating the BIOS the board went all black on me. I tried connecting a floppy-drive to recover to a older BIOS-version, but could get the board to do that. I then tried different monitor-connections, but nothing.
I then installed a Gigabyte Radeon HD 4870 1GB-board I had laying here, and board seems to boot somehow - all graphics are messed so I can't read whats on the screen, but at least I get some kind of image. A little unsure on how the PSU handle that videoboard.
Anyone know if the 1.2 BIOS-update maybe is set to <swearing removed> the integrated video by looking for a videoboard in the system? Have a Asus 9800GT Matrix-board in a another pc here - maybe I remove that and try it in the new pc, but... argh..
This ain't funny at all anymore. I had a P45 Platinum dying during a BIOS upgrade. I had a P45 Diamond that dosn't want to boot anymore, and now this... MSI-motherboards really don't want to be friends with me at the time  :-|

Hi have exactly teh same problem,
On Dec/2008 I have set up a PC with DKA790GX Platinum (MS7550 ver 1.2), Phenom 9750, 1 120GB hd, 4 MB corsair xms2 ddr2 800mhz, psu 500w. I installed the win xp pro OS. I had the board connected to my monitor vga. After updating the BIOS (with live update utility) the board went all black on me (the fan, PSU, hd starts normal). I test the PSU, HD and the memory, but the problem still continue.
Two days after, the PC start normal, but I don't know what was the problem.
Aleatory when try to start the PC, sometimes I get exactly the same problem, but, Yesterday, I try again to work with me PC and now i have the same problem.
What can i do to fix this problem?

MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem

A lot of things could be wrong but it will be easier to figure out if we know what you did.  When you say you changed settings in Bios, do you remember your last settings and what you did?
It might be helpful if you created a sig (as described in the forum rules) to show what you have in your system like my sig below. (Hint- use profile button in sign on screen.)
Things could be broken even if there is no visible evidence (such as flames or melted component) of course.
If I had to guess and your d-bracket reading is correct, corrupted bios requiring new bios chip, but let's not guess as a lot of things could be wrong and you don't want to invest in a new bios chip if the board cannot be brought back to life.  Consider removing parts and testing them in an other machine.  Start with CPU and memory?
    Good luck.

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=109600.0

I have been having very similar issues with this board ever since they updated the MSI drivers in April.  MSI says it cant be a driver/MoBo issue cause everyone would be calling in about it.
I think they are completely wrong and have a driver package that isn't working correctly...but thats just my opinion.
Anyway, have you tried installing in RAID 1?
This did not change the final outcome for me and I am stuck to Native IDE till I can pay for the shipping to have my board replaced.  I spent way to long on the phone with agents blaming everything but the board (probably some new MSI policy cause they have never tried to pass this crap off on me b4), so I have tested everything else and still have dire issues when ever I am using a RAID set-up.
Question 2:  What PSU are you running?
Make sure you are not overworking your PSU, as from what MSI told me, this can cause numerous errors and set-up issues.
Well, I hope some of this helped.  Maybe it is a driver issue and just not enough people with this board have had to re-install since the new RAID driver was put up in April.  Again, I never had problem one before then!!!  Other than just basic help that is.

  • DKA790gx platinum bios problem

I tried to update my bios using Live Update in order to upgrade to an AM3 processor. I flashed the bios within windows 7 (64 bit) and restarted my computer. When I got to the checksum error screen, i accidently hit F2 to load defaukt settings insteaed of hitting F1 to load the bios setup and load the optimized settings. after a reboot, i loaded the optimized settings.
However, whenever i started windows, it would load all the way to my desktop, then freeze. After talking to support, I was told to clear my CMOS, which i did, to no avail. Then was told to try a clean install of Windows. However, when i try to reinstall, it freezes during the final step. Now, I have no windows installed (since it errored) and cannot reinstall.
I'm guessing i need to reflash my bios, or install an earlier version? But, without windows, I'm not sure how to go about flashing. The only advice i can find on the msi website is for earlier windows versions (xp, 98, etc.) Any advice on how I can proceed from here? I'm kind of stuck and I have a brand new shiny 1090t sitting on my desk teasing me....
    Thnks

Sorry about that, should have known better.

    Hi Paul,
I think that there will be no problems - if you include a good PSU in the set up.
I would recommend to see what BIOS there is coming with the board - 1.9 or higher will recognise the X2 CPUs. If not strictly necessary, I would advice against flashing the BIOS of this board, unless - of course - you encounter specific problems. In that case I would flash an official BIOS (1.B) and not a beta, or modded BIOS.
At present the 4800 X2 is still quite expensive; the 4400 X2 is much better from a price/performance point-of-view ...
As far as RAM is concerned: why would you want to run 4GB of RAM? For normal programs/games, 1GB is more than sufficient and only with some of the newest games a noticeable increase in performance can be seen when 2GB is used in stead of 1GB. It is hard to imagine that adding 2 GB more will lead to an increase in performance. Instead it must be expected that you will loose performance (because of dropping to 333MHz, looser timings, etc.). I therefore recommend to go for 2GB of good quality RAM.
    Hope this helps,
    Hans

I just slapped a 125 watt 9950 in my DKA790GX Platinum a couple of days ago.  I also was getting blue screens at start-up like a memory issue.  I found ACC being on was the actual cause of the problem.  When I turned ACC off, everything worked fine.  I was running a beta bios MSI gave me for another issue with my old 9600 cpu so it may or may not apply in your case.  I did flash the new 1.30 bios that was very recently posted and I was then able to use ACC with no more problems at start-up.  Once I got ACC running on auto, I found that with the 9950 I was able to lower the cpu voltage to 1.26v completely stable where it needed 1.30v with ACC off.  I haven't attempted to overclock yet as I am temporarily using the stock cooler, but being able to lower the voltage that much with it on should help a lot with heat issues in overclocking this chip.  The one document I saw from AMD on ACC stated to use the all four cores setting with +12 for the best overclocking results, but at least with the 9600 I seemed to get better results using auto.

hello, I checked to see if there was any updates for my motherboard, it seems to have been removed from msi site (and never existed according to the search engine) I downloaded live update 5 which only recognised my 295 gtx (made by gainwood ) I am guessing this is not supported any longer so there will be no further updates? bios is 1G and i just updated network driver from realtek's site, is this what I need to do from now?
    thanks.
also wanted to check cpu compatibilty to see if this is worth updating.

  • DKA790GX Platinum & USB +5V Standby Voltage.

    Hi All,
Has anyone managed to get USB Standby +5V to work on a DKA790GX Platinum?
All my other MSI m/boards allow 5Volts to the USB, so that wireless mice can be charged whilst off etc, but this board does not do that.
I contacted MSI and they said
' This is the BIOS spec. And we will not supply the 5V standby voltage when the motherboards is powered off.
    Sorry for any inconvenience caused.'
Anyone know why the DKA790GX Platinum is the exception? Should I request a BIOS update?
    Any help welcome.
    Affable99

    Many thanks Bas & Aramus8.
It works, thank you - but my users are asking 'How much power gets consumed in Standby?', to which I have no answer.
I guess things have moved on. All my boards are MSI, even my old KM2M Combo - and they all gave 5V at power off.
Looks like Standby is the future.
Any ideas how much power is being used? The standby obviously keeps the memory going, as the emergence from standby returns you to the same user instance!
    Any thoughts welcome.
