Early 2005 G5 not recognizing RAM, optical door not opening

Hi,
I recently received a Power Mac G5, Early 2005, Dual Core 2.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HD, running OS 10.5.8.
I decided to invest in this machine, so I ordered a paired 1 GB RAM (for a total of 2 GB RAM) from OWC. Then when trying to install software, I found the computer's optical drive door does not open at all. I could hear the optical drive trying to open but figured it was old and defective/worn out. So I also ordered a new optical drive from OWC. I also made sure to order the correct screws that OWC recommended for the optical drive too, as my original optical drive was a Sony and I saw there are some issues with the screws or height.
I installed the 2 x 1 GB paired RAM, and the G5 is not recognizing the RAM. In System Profiler, the slots show as empty. The RAM did not really click in like other RAM I have installed on my PowerBook G4, my former G3 Beige, and my former Power PC 6100. The hinges on the sides closed but not quite all the way, so I figure OWC sent me the wrong RAM and removed them before RAM issues start. I also noticed the RAM is slightly taller in height next to the original RAM.
The new optical drive installed fine, with the proper screws. However when I try to open it using the "eject" on the keyboard, the optical drive does try to open but the exterior door on the G5 case itself is not opening. It does show up in the System Profiler. When I had the G5 open and no optical drive installed, I doublechecked the exterior optical drive door with my finger, and it would open from the inside of the case poking my finger out, but not from the outside poking in.
Also, I noticed that the Model Identifier doesn't quite match up with the specs at OWC, Crucial, or elsewhere. According to the specs I should have 7,2, not 7,3? I ran the serial number at the Dutch website and also here at Apple, and both have said Early 2005. Is this why I may have the wrong RAM?

Centro not recognizing Kingston SDHC 4GB Card

I purchased the Centro last week and also bought (from a third party) a Kingston 4GB SDHC Card. Initial installation of the card took a couple tries before it was recognized by the Centro. After initial recognition, I used the Centro utility to format it, then used a USB adapter to load an album on it from my laptop. The Centro immediately recognized the card upon reinsertion and the music played as expected.
However, the Centro loses contact with the card regularly. I check about 10 times a day and at least half of the time the Centro registers "No Card Inserted" in the Card Info application. I tried a soft reset to no avail. The hard reset has increased the number of times the card is recognized, but the Centro is still not consistently recognizing the card.
I'd appreciate any help you can give - at the moment I'm down to buying another card just to see if its the card or the Centro. The problem I'm anticipating is having the card people tell me its the device and the device people tell me its the card!

Also have you uprgaded from a previous palm os device? There could be something that is save in your backup folder that when you resync it recognizes that file again and causes the lost card.
Out or curiosity if you hard reset the device (http://kb.palm.com solution id 887)
Then put the card in it works fine, next try syncing, but to a different username than your normal one, does the card still get recognized or is it lost in the shuffle again?
I have a Centro, Sprint and have synced many times and do not have any problems with my device recognizing the card.

Macbook Pro not recognizing RAM

I have a late 2007 Macbook Pro.
2.33 ghtz
500 gig HD
2 gig RAM
I checked the specs, and spoke with AppleCare (while AppleCare was still in effect) about my RAM being upgraded to 4 gigs, as it is listed as being able to support, and the AppleCare technicians I spoke to informed me this was okay to do.
I upgraded to the 4 gigs, and everything installed perfectly, and runs fine. However, with mutiple apps open, she would start to bog down.
From checking "About This Mac" both 2 gig sticks are installed and being used.
From Activity Monitor, I only have 3 gigs.
From iStat Pro I only have 3 gigs.
I know that some older models could only handle 3 gigs, but this machine is past that window (so I was told by the computer, and AppleCare), and I was wondering if anyone knew of a reason this would have happened.
Of course my AppleCare has since expired, and eventually I'll be getting a newer model, but since this machine still runs circles around anyone elses PC I know, I see no reason to just get rid of her. I would just like to solve this little mystery first.
Any advice or info will be greatly appreciated.

According to MacTracker that is expected. May have something to do with Duo cores, but a 64 bit processor should be able to address all 4 GB and them some, but 32 bit processor can only address a bit over 3 GB even though 4 GB of RAM are installed.

Ibook not recognizing RAM

ok, so my brothers laptop has the 256 MB built in, then it came with another 256 Stick in it, however, it said that the computer only had 256 (which was the built in), so we replaced the RAM stick with another 256, and it still isnt' recognizing it, still says just 256 built in... what is goin on here?

i know the RAM is good, becuase i bought a new stick for mine (identical laptops) and i gave him my old working one, i just bought a 512 instead of a 256 that it came with, so i am sure that the RAM is good, we don't have a bootable disc, cuz we got em from a school and all they gave us were the laptops and the power adapters. so ya, it isn't really worth it to replace the logic board in them, cuz one of em, the logic board was crap, and so we bought 4 and only have 3 working ones, so, if it is the logic board, consider this question answered.

Not enough RAM - CS2

To begin I will say that we have been using Photoshop CS 2 in our company for about two years without a problem. The problems started last friday. I have not changed any settings, installed any plugins etc. before these problems started. Neither has the computer hardware changed.
Photoshop starts nicely. You can use it without a problem for a while, until suddenly it says (depending on the action) "Not enough RAM". After that I can't save, but I can continue editing as if nothing had happened. Normally Photshop takes roughly 1gt of RAM when idle, but the allocated memory just keeps on growing the further I go with my photoshopping. After a while the Photoshop memory count rises to about 2gt. I have 3gt of RAM and there's always about 2gt not in use when Photoshop is inactive.
Sometimes when i launch Photoshop my whole computer crashes. No blue screens of death or anything, just a simple reset. This also occured while i was starting the uninstallation program.
The best way to see this problem is with the Text tool. Creating a text layer takes much more longer than it used to. Copy-pasting is just something I can't do because it takes forever.
I have read the FAQ, adjusted history and cache settings to small, scratch disks (1st startup, 2nd another partition), reseted my preferences and ultimately reinstalled Photoshop. My Photoshop is up-to-date. I have tried running Photoshop on Windows 98 compatibility setting. My computer temperatures are good. I have also defragmented and ran memtests.

I have been using CS2 for 4 years, and I keep getting the same message regarding not enough RAM over and over again during the years. It's not happenig all the time - it seems to pop up every two or three months. Usually I don't get the message, but sometimes, when I work on files with a lot of text - such as broshures or flyers, or menu pages - it's almost impossible to work.
It takes forever to initialise the text engine, sometimes I get the message "something prevented the text engine from being initialised".
I know I will get the message for not enough RAM when all the text disappears whie I am typing and when I click anything after that that annoying message pops up.
I don't know waht to do - I save every 2-3 minutes, because I don't know when it will surprise me. It's really frustrating- I broke two keyboard while "dealing" with the problem.
My PC specs are:
AMD Athlon 2800+
1,8 GHz, 2 Gb RAM
I tired allocating 70 % of my RAM to Photoshop, then I changed it to 50 %, then I read somewhere that it is good to be 30 % - did that, too.
I have only one partition on my hard drive,one physical drive; first scratch disk - startup, second - C:/
Any ideas?

The dv6700z And dv9700z WILL Support Over 4gb of RAM

I've asked on these and other forums if my dv6700z and dv9700z laptops would support over 4gb of RAM and I was told absolutely not. The hard limit on these motherboards is set at 4gb. Period. Even the memory manufacturers told me the 4gb limit was cast in stone. I could forget about squeezing a few more years from my laptops with life-giving RAM upgrades.
Well, I pleased to announce that these laptops absolutely WILL support over 4gb when running under a 64-bit operating system. I have just installed a Patriot 4gb PC2-6400 memory module carrying p/n PSD24G8002S from NewEgg, along with one existing 2gb module. The machines all booted and addressed 6gb quite nicely, thank you. Now, I barely even notice hard drive activity since the upgrade. 64-bit Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 Linux all work flawlessly with over 4gb.
Now that my little experiment has worked, I am going back to NewEgg to slug a full 8gb (4gb x 2) of PC2-6400 memory in all my dv6000 and dv9000 laptops. I can highly recommend this life-extending feature to anyone running 64-bit operating systems.
By the way, NewEgg pictures these modules with 4 chips per side, but they have 8 chips per side. $70 each and free shipping. 200 pin DDR2 RAM is expensive, but probably not getting any cheaper.

I just bought the same module for my HP Elitebook 6930p. I only bought one to make sure it would work (I have always bought Crucial memory in the past) but when I saw the price of a Crucial module compared to the Patriot module, I couldn't resist. I bought the Patriot module based on the many excellent reviews.
My module came yesterday and works great! So, I ordered another one last night and can't wait to max out the memory in this notebook to 8 gigs!.
Even at 6 GB, this thing flies! My WEI dropped .2 of a point from 5.9 to 5.7 but I am sure this is due to not having matched pairs as this notebook supports DDR mode.
I will run the WEI tool again after installing the matching 4 GB module and expect the index to go up again to at least where it was.

MSI 785gtm-e45 usb not recognizing

HI all. i just built this pc yesterday using this mobo MSI 785gtm-e45 with AMD phenom X4 2.5ghz along side with 2ghz of ram ddr2 800mhz and installed windows 7 ultimate 32bit . everything went well thru the installation of the os, cept when i went to plug in my jump drive the lower right hand box said /!\ usb is not recognized. im using a ps/2 mouse and keyboard it connects thru the internet, i even downloaded drivers from the website and installed and still im getting that warning. any idea of wut could be the culprit

I am having the same problems, but this is also affecting my onboard USB connections. IPod Mini 4gb driver not recognized

iPod Mini 4gb give error when connecting to XP/Vista/Windows7 USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED OR MALFUNCTIONED. iPod software is loaded, when I try to upgrade to upgrader 2005-02-07 (which is what was on the iPod software) I get error: Invalid iPOD service version. I updated iTunes to 9.2 which was Apple's suggestion on their web page. It worked fine when I plugged it into same computer about 6 months ago to add new songs. HELP!! know it is old, but do not want to buy a new one...this one works great.

Here is the information I have. The external hard drive is a 120GB Acomdata. It has both USB and Firewire. When I go to plug in to the mac mini through USB, it is not being recognized. When I switch to Firewire on the old computer I can see it, however when I go to USB it is not being recognized (even on the old computer).
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any advice would be helpful.

ATV1 not recognized by iTunes (over Wi-Fi)

Hi guys!
My ATV1 is not recognized anymore by iTunes. I tried everything (Apple tips, searched the discussions pages), but had no luck. I even erased the connection and started all over again, only to find the same result. However, the ATV is connected to the internet, and I am able to listen to the radio and everything else.
When I try to add Shared iTunes Library, the ATV becomes available again, but when I try to sync, iTunes gives me the port 3689 blocked error, and and afterwards the ATV dissapears from the Device list. The Apple tip on this problem doesn't do anything to solve it.
Any idea on what I might do? Could it be the router (Huawei HG655b)?

It seems you are experiencing issues with iTunes Wi-Fi sync. That does sound troublesome. The following article provides steps which may help you find a solution:

Laptop not recognizing old ram

Hello everyone. First time poster here, needing some advice. Well I had applied new quality thermal paste and cleaned out the vents to my rig presario cq62. After doing everything, it's not recognizing one stick of ram. I switched them to see what will happen and I got the same result. Does that mean one slot is faulty? Does the fact that I got a bios error have anything to do with it. I understand that your notebook is not recognizing the new or old RAM module in one of the memory slots on your notebook, and that your system displayed a CMOS error. Which slot on the system board is affected when you insert a new RAM module, and is it inserted by itself? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number. In addition, it will also help if you indicate which operating system you are using; and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit. The more information you can provide, the better!

My iPhone4 is not recognized by iTunes over wifi.

While I have been having issues synching both my iPad2 and my iPhone4 over wifi to iTunes (error message would occur) recently the problem seems to have gone away for my iPad2, but not iTunes is not recognizing my iPhone4 via wifi. I have checked to make sure I am on the same network and even synched via cable, unchecked the wifi synch option and then reselected it. Still, iTunes does not see my phone. Any help/thoughts are appreciated.

Help Ibook not recognizing extra Ram!

Hi, please help, I have just fitted a 1GB ram to my ibook as recommended by the apple genius.
When I click on about this mac it still says 256ram.
Have I done anything wrong? Ive refitted it again and it still doesnt recognize it?
Is there something else I need to do?

Resetting the PRAM has nothing to do with it.
One or more of the following is true:
(1) The RAM isn't installed properly.
(2) The RAM isn't compatible with your iBook.
(3) The RAM is defective.
(4) The iBook's motherboard is defective and not recognizing the RAM.
