I added an event to a button, and this solved the issue! Very odd. I had not opened the file in ages, so I could not made any alterations in the code that could have caused the problem.

  • High CPU Problems With Screensavers and Flash Player - FYI

Upgraded my 1.42 Ghz PPC MacMini (1 GB RAM) to Leopard, fresh install and suffered high CPU problems as outlined in various other threads.
Fixed major 100% cpu and 100% FAN issue by removing The Weather Channel Screensaver - so have a look at your console system info and see if a 3rd Party screensaver is causing a problem, or if no 3rd party screensaver, try using a simply screensaver like Forest.
Safari/Netscape/Firefox also were using high CPU when a webpage was using Flash, I removed Flash Player 9 (latest version) and cpu load decreased dramatically.
    Go here for uninstall DMG

Hope this helps someone else until there are fixes.

Just wanted to clarify that the Flash and Screensaver problem is still ongoing even after the latest QT updates as of Nov 07.
The Flash problems is with Flash images/code that use moving graphics/user input, such as those adverts you see where you push a button to punch Paris Hilton.
I think the overall problem is with the way QT/Core Image/Core Animation is different in Leopard compared to Tiger. As have now often witnessed iTunes just displaying the Cover Flow image area and nothing else (everything else in the application area is white) when going between applications, clicking on the iTunes icon in the dock refreshes the image okay.

Beta 2 or RC1 candidate???? RC1 should support..........
Beta 2 is real, slow and you have alot of updates to DL, but both are pre-release products and will not work 100%.
Even when Vista is released, they will still be alot of hardware that will not work 100% and this is purely because software is always playing catch up to hardware.
It was only September, when Nvidia released some Beta2/RC1 drivers that worked properly........

Thank you for replying. I had no idea I had a response. It is a Windows 7 Home Premium. The game is actually now a few different ones for my child, Baby Luv, Brave & Disney Princesses. None of them will work. I have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 graphics card in this (Compaq Presario All-In-One Desktop PC) and I just posted another question in the forum about wanting to know if I can replace the grahics card with a HD card and if so how? I have looked online but can't find an answer. Is it possible to replace the card or with it being an all-in-one is it not possible? Thank you.

  • MS-6309 and CPU problem

    Hi
I have MS-6309 V2.1 (newest bios) and a regular Intel Celeron 933MHz. Recently I tried to upgrade it to Intel Coppermine 1GHz 256kB cache, but it was doing mathematical errors (random freezing, kernel error, different md5sums of the same file) (in any OS). MEMTEST went OK so I thought the CPU was bad so I tested it in my friend's mainboard and it was OK, so I tested my friend's CPU (the same, only little older release) in my mobo and it was doing the same errors.
So my mobo is bad or it doesn't have proper microcode for my CPU (which may be eventually newer than newest BIOS release) what brings me to point-> How can I update microcode in old AMI BIOS? MMTool and AMIMMDOS works only on newer bioses.
    Sorry for my english

So here's specifications of my old creepy computer:
    Mobo: MS-6309 V2.1 with BIOS v3.6
    RAMs: Apacer 128MB UNB PC133 CL3 + PQI PC-133 MS3828UPS
    CPU: Intel pentium III 1000/256/133/1.7V Q111A368-0941 SL4MF
    PSU: regular 300W
    HD: irrelevant
    RM: CD-ROM 54X read
To Frederik about windows: There never had been one (according to former owner) before I got it and there also has never been windows since I got it.
To Stu: I was looking for some old computer to be used as media-centre and webserver when I got this one for free from my friend. And it was beyond my expectations, cos I was looking for some 500MHz, 64MB RAM (which doesn't have problem playing 1400x1050 xvids and DVD's).
OS: Gentoo, Debian, GeeXbox, Xubuntu, TinyME, Sidux, and others..
Either they run from harddisk or CDROM they freeze or do mistakes in calculations (usually it means crashed program or kernel or programs do what they shouldn't). If you f.e. run md5sum with the same file 10x at least two sums will be different.
CPU temperature doesn't go beyond 40-45°C.
The CPU runs well in other mobos (with the same rams or not) and other 1GHz coppermines runs also wrong in my mobo (with my rams or any other rams). So i think it's either CPU problem or BIOS problem (old microcode or something else).
    sorry for my english

  • E450 CPU Problem?

    Hi,
    I got a warning message: fail-Master Disable for UltraSPARC-II.
And the output from prtdiag shows than one of the CPU has gone.
    Is this a CPU problem?
    Thank you.
    Andry

That would be a good guess.
If it's not the cpu, then it's the DC-DC converter that's mated to that cpu module.
Either way, you need to replace hardware parts.
Go to the Sun System Handbook and get the E450's Service Manual.
( actually, you might as well get ALL the documentation for the system while you're there )

I use QT in Authorware fairly frequently. I don't find it
    particularly
buggy, though some of the sprite functions don't seem to
    be...well
implemented. I agree it can be a pain to use, especially with
    not
everyone having QT already installed and Apple's licensing...
However, if indeed Tom's not getting the responsiveness he
    needs, then I
echo the suggestion of an MP3 in Flash. Or, didn't Apurva
    make an MP3
player for Authorware? Or maybe it was a published Authorware

Thanks for the reply, Old Toad.
I repaired permissions on my internal hard drive successfully, but the 'Repair Permissions' button was disabled when I selected my external drive - is this right? Anyway, it didn't fix the problem.
I then tried your second hint, but that didn't work either.
    :^(
Do you have any other ideas?
For reference, my external hard drive is a "LaCie D2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface 250GB", was bought from the Apple store September 16th, is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and is connected via one of my iMac's FireWire 400 ports. I've just noticed that Disk Utility is telling me that "Owners Enabled: No".
Sorry for all the questions but I'm a bit of a newbie ...

  • Macbook Pro CPU problem - idle % consistently low, please help!

    Hi,
I've had my Macbook for about 8 months and never had any problems with it. Recently it started running very slow - freezing, mouse moving slow, typing response slow. I tried some solutions I found online (installing all updates, resetting NVRAM/PRAM, reindexing Spotlight, verifying disk permissions, entering purge in terminal). None of these worked. I checked Activity Monitor and the problem appears to be with the CPU, since every time the computer is running slow the Idle % is under 10%. Out of an abundance of caution, I uninstalled two Chrome plugins which were the only things I've installed in months (Adblocker and Disconnect.) I don't use any games or any other apps - pretty much all I do on my laptop is browse the internet on Chrome and use MS Word. I also have plenty of disk space, so I know that lack of storage is not causing this problem.
The only thing that has worked, at least temporarily, is shutting down, connecting to power source, and holding ctrl option shift power for 10 seconds, then turning back on (this was suggested in another thread on these forums.) The first time I did this it worked like a charm - my computer worked fine afterward, with the idle% back up to well over 90. However, it started running slow again the next day. I repeated the key process and again it seemed fine. Then again it slowed.
At this point I've tried the same solution several times and it doesn't seem to be helping anymore. Upon startup the idle% use in Activity Monitor is anywhere between 4% and 10%. The kernel_task is showing around 350% in Acitvity Monitor.
I have a very important test coming up at the end of the month and I'm studying 16 hours a day, and can't afford to be away from my computer for long. Is there ANYTHING I can do to fix this from home, or does it need to be taken into Genius under Apple care? If so, will they have to send it out and replace the hard drive, or will it be an easy in-store fix?
Any information would be appreciated! I am about sick to death of Apple products (my old first gen Macbook Air had to have its hard drive replaced twice and its screen replaced once.) If I can't find a solution I may have no choice but to up and buy a PC.

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below is a partial list of causes for this condition.
    Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce heat dissipation. This condition can be due to an accumulation of dust, to high ambient temperature, or to the malfunction of a cooling fan or temperature sensor. You might, or might not, see messages like the following in the Console window:
    SMC::smcHandleInterruptEvent WARNING status=0x0 (0x40 not set) notif=0x0
The timestamps of those messages (if any) indicate the times, since the log was last cleared, when a processor was being throttled due to high temperature.
Note that if the problem is caused by a faulty sensor that reads too high, there may be no actual overheating.
The Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a bad fan or temperature sensor.
    Using Apple Hardware Test
    Encryption
Transferring large amounts of data to or from an encrypted disk image or FileVault volume may put an extra load on the kernel. If both the source and the destination are encrypted, the load may be doubled. If you transfer data from an encrypted disk image on an encrypted partition to another such image on another encrypted partition, the load may be quadrupled.
This issue probably doesn't affect late-model Macs with an Intel i-series, recent Xeon, or later processor. Those processors support hardware-accelerated encryption. You can determine what kind of processor you have by selecting About This Mac from the Apple menu in the menu bar.
    Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility by completely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or booting in safe mode (with the shift key held down at the startup chime.) Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or booting in safe mode may not be as easy as you think it is.
    Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
In some cases the condition has reportedly been cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC. I can't confirm.

4300 booted, all drivers functional, everything looks good. Thank you so much for the help. I will now say this is solved and explain everything below.
Problem: After replacing CPU computer would not boot.
Hardware: msi 990xa GD55, replacing FX 4100 with FX 4300
Issue: Computer would not boot. Fans and Mobo lights turn on. No signal to monitor.
    Solution:
FX 4100 (Core Name Zambezi) and FX 4300 (Core Name Vishera) required different BIOS configurations. Computer was built with Zambezi architecture and the default BIOS ran with no configuration. In order to replace the 4100 with the 4300, a BIOS update (from MSI website, BIOS 22.5) was required.
After installing the new BIOS via USB flash the system posted properly (into a much nicer BIOS.. UEFI maybe? Not sure, but it has a nice GUI). Am now running on the 4300 with no visible problems.
Thanks for the support! Can be marked as SOLVED!
As a side note, for my new build I am looking at a dual Fury X and intel i7 4790k... I was going to buy an Asus Sabretooth Mark 1 but after the support I recieved here I would love to use another MSI. The problem is my build is colored Black and White, and MSI runs black and red. Are there any White and Black MSI Mobo's with socket FCLGA1150 architecture? If that question should go elsewhere please direct me.
    THANKS AGAIN!!!

Oveheating of the cpu can cause this problem.  Check to see that the cpu heatsink and fan are installed correctly.
Do you have the 4pin connector connected to the motherboard?
Specs for your power supply would also help.  Amps on the 3.3v-5v-12v rails in addition to the manufacturer.  This info is printed on a label on the side of the power supply.
What was the model of your old motherboard?  Might need a repair install of the operating system.

But this is not overclocking it, the CPU's rated FSB is 1060MHz.
Runing at the jumper forced 266 means the CPU is running over 1GHz UNDER spec! (1.6GHz insted of 2.8GHz)
Without the 400mhz FSB the CPU is SLOWverclocked!!!
This jumper over clocking facility is pasted all over the Mobo box and literature and it seems to be somewhat fail
    1) The default FSB-Frequency of your processor is 266 MHz (or 1066 MHz effectively).  If you put the OC Jumpers into the 266 -> 333 MHz position, your processor will be hardware-overclocked to 333 MHz x 10.5 = 3496,5 MHz
    2) If the power saving features of your processor are enabled (EIST and C1E Support (there is one option for each function in BIOS)) the multiplier will automatically reduced to x6 when the CPU is IDLE or has little workload.  Giving the processor something to do, should cause the multiplier to rise back to x10.5.  If the multiplier stays @x6 even though all power saving features are disabled in BIOS and/or the processor is under full load, you may have a serious temperature problem.  The processor automatically clocks itself down, when it runs too hot.
    3) Putting the jumpers into the 266 -> 333 MHz position does not mean that you cannot use the BIOS Settings to overclock further (400 MHz FSB-Clock Speed or more if you like.)  Get ready to modify other settings as well (voltages and the FSB/DRAM Ratio) to get the system stable at higher speed.
    4) Do not expect a system with an FSB-266-MHz-Processor to boot properly if your remove the OC Jumpers and force the FSB Clock Speed to 400 MHz.  Most systems are not able to get through POST with that kind of frequency jump and without any further fine tuning of voltage settings.
