MOVED: Got some newbie questions

This topic has been moved to Overclocking, Undervolting.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183925.0

Oh well I guess I have to try to figure out what these settings do myself. Seems to work roughly like I thought it would. Although not quite, Override 1,1v turns into 1,12v under load and Override 1,1v + offset 0,02 somehow turns into 1,136v close enough I guess.
Was just afraid I'd enter 1,1v and it would set the voltage to something entirely different. Seems to work roughly like you'd expect. Still don't know what would make the CPU run stable overclocked when idle, have to experiment I guess.
Seems setting the voltage to override and higher than the Auto: 1.05v makes the minimum voltage when idle slightly higher

I'm just confused, I don't really overclock or mess around with my bios settings usually. Although I still want to get a bit more out of my CPU then what it normally delivers.
Got an i5-4670k, just tried to set the clock speed to 4.2Ghz nothing fancy. It ran fine for hours when gaming and running p95 at the same time, but once when I went afk and the CPU was idle it crashed. It drops the VCore to what to me seems rather silly values at times when idle, I mean 0.088V at 3.8Ghz?!? Perhaps CPU-Z is lying
Also it gets rather hot when running p95, at just 4.2Ghz it reached like 78c on hottest core, 74c on the others. (although I do have too hot in the room as well 25c). It also increased the Vcore to 1.304V which is probably kinda high.
I don't really understand the voltage settings, what would happen if one set them like in this pic below (don't worry I didn't save any of these settings). Would the 1.05V + offset be the VCore, 1.25V that is? And the minimum voltage increased by 0.2V?  Would be nice to not have it use so high max voltages and not so low when idle that the PC crashes.
Any suggestions are welcome, I don't have a clue. What does Ring voltage mean, should you just leave that alone or set it same as Core voltage or what? Under DigitAll Power there is also something called Vdroop, can you avoid the CPU getting too little voltage by changing that? Or does that do something entirely different. I wish motherboards came with an indepth guide.

  • Trouble backing up Macbook (10.4.11) and some newbie questions...

I am using a MacBook OS X 10.4.11 and do not have Time Machine. I have a couple newbie questions...
What is the best way to back up everything? I am using Disk Utility's Restore tab but it is taking forever. I first tried to do it though Disk Utility's First Aid tab but it wouldn't let me make a New Image because the "source was in use", I think it is because I don't have the Install Disc to begin with (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1553).
Secondly, does this include everything in "Home" (bookmarks, iPhoto library, iTunes library and so forth), Documents, and Desktop? Or must these be archived and transferred to the external hard drive separately from Macintosh HD?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I tried restarting the phone and switching to another USB cable and now it is working so never mind.

  • Some newbie questions

dear all smart men, i am a newbie in xml domain, there are some quiestions that i can't make sense yet, anyone can help:
    1. dose the xml is independent from protocals? we can bind xml to http and sock too, and something this kind of?
    2. soap is called a "protocol", but in fact it's a kind of xml application with standard format. we all know that xml is used for describing data, and soap has this functionality too, but why soap is isolatable from common xml? what is its purpose?
    3. jxta is a set of protocols used for p2p purpose. most of these protocols are also used in xml, but how they get their goals. For exmaple the ERP protocol in JXTA, it can route the routine the message transimited. but it seems the network protocol can achieve, how the xml can do this? (i have read some docs about this i can't make sense about it yet)
all above are some questions i met by now, for i am a newbie in this field, so i may have some misunderstading about xml/soap/jxta, if any pls feel free to critise, that i can step further =).
Thanx, and good luck to you all.

    Thanx Dodossot =)!
your answers are quite helpful really, now i feel the cloud dispersed already.
about the 3rd question, for you have answer the first and second, the third is not a problem now. what i need is to read more about JXTA protocols. if you are interested about them, you may find some docs at www.jxta.org for more inf.
at last i will say thanx again, and you don't hesitate to say you'r smart =).
    best regards.

  • Some "newb" questions - Network and BBM

    Morning -
I have some questions, I'm hoping someone can answer.
Q1 - Presently the device (Curve 9300) is connecting to the router successfully but not connecting to the internet even though other devices are (the WiFi indicator is dim). Is there anything different you need to do on BB to get it to connect?  If it makes a difference, I'd to state that I am currently using the handset without a BB data plan, but I thought connection to WiFi would still have been possible.  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Q2 - I will be getting a BB data plan activated shortly, and I have a BBM question.  Providers all state that BBM and email are free once you have the BB data plan.  Would this usually include when you are roaming as well?

  • Just some newbie questions :)

what would happen to my macbook pro system if i didn't upgrade my OS X to the latest one everytime apple releases new one?
will it get any bug or viruses or something strange?
    thx,

Installing a newer Operating System is not always an advantage. Newer OS's sometimes will not have all of the Apple applications that you may have been using and occasionally makes some third party applications obsolete.
As a general rule I suggest that if you have a 2010 MBP or earlier, stay with Snow Leopard 10. 6.8.  It is the most efficient and stable OSs to date.  If you have a 2011 MBP, Snow Leopard, Lion or Mt. Lion will operate satisfactorily on those MBPs.  For 2012 MBPs, you will be restricted to Mt. Lion only since it is the OS that comes with the MBP.
To date there have been no viruses for MBPs for any of the OS's and there are security measures incorporated within the OS, thus no AV software is essential.  Malware  has been evident from time to time, but it requires user cooperation to install it.  If something looks suspicious, don't install it and you should have a malware free OS.
    Ciao.

its name -i think- is autodeploy folder
2-how i can mark a context as a "cross Context" cross context are acceable from outside web application context.

  • Some quick questions before I purchase LE8..

    Hi all,
I'm a longtime mac user and I just got into music production. I plan on mainly making Hip Hop beats and also record me playing bass on sampled tracks. I have already purchased an audio interface( PreSonus Firebox 6x10) and some monitors (KRK RP5's). I'm going to be purchasing LE8 and a MIDI keyboard soon, as well as a turntable for sampling vinyl sometime this week.
I got some quick questions though. If I'm loading samples off vinyl into the ESX24 sampler in LE8, what program can I use within LE8 to cut the desired parts of the sample? Then assign them to my MIDI keyboard or Akai MPD24.
I plan on hooking everything up to my 2.16ghz w/2MB Macbook and was wondering if it could withstand Logic. Also, will I need to update any drivers for the firebox? I remember reading problems about it working with Logic.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. If any Hip Hop heads here have any tips/ suggestions, lemme know!
    Thanks,
    JC

I'm not a big expert on audio recording, but other than the video card (which would not be a big factor for audio) you can't really upgrade it to much further than what you specified. You could increase the internal storage, but I've always been inclined to keep most of my personal files (things I am not actively working on now) on an external drive, and keep the OS, applications, and my current ongoing work on the internal drive, along with plenty of free space. I think that improves performance. If you did get the larger internal storage option, you might consider partitioning it into two volumes. You could keep your OS, apps, ongoing work, and that free space on one volume, and use the other volume for the long-term storage of your user files. Or maybe for your audio work, it is better to have a separate volume that is a dedicated +scratch space+, so if you had the larger internal drive, you can use that space more flexibly.
One other consideration is the CPU speed. There is really very little difference between 2.93 GHz and 3.06 GHz. It's about 4%, but in the real world, the performance difference is probably even less. So you could trade the $150 for the slightly faster speed and get the extra internal storage for $100, saving you $50.
Also, the online store has a page for clearance and refurbs (Special Deals). For example, this one is currently listed
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB419LL/A?mco=MjE0NDk5Mw
It is the current gen iMac model. Note: Many of the items on the Special Deals section are previous generation Mac models (so keep that in mind if you look at other listings). My current iMac is a refurb. In my experience, the one Mac and two iPods I have purchased as refurbs have looked new. They just come in a plain brown box instead of the fancy retail packaging. The warranty is the same as new.

Welcome to the Apple Community Helen.
If you don't know your password, don't know your security questions and don't have a rescue address or don't receive a reset email, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

  • I got this flashing question mark, i did some research into this and found out that the hard drive is the cause

i recently found my ibook and decided to see if it would still turn on. it did but i got this flashing question mark, i did some research into this and found out that the hard drive is the cause. so i opened it up replaced the hard drive and closed it up, booted from the disc and crossed my fingers but it did not pick up the hard drive. i thought it might not have been installed properly, so i opened it up to check the connections to make shure they were secure and closed it back up but now it wont even boot from the disc. so dose anyone know whats wrong with it because i really don't just want throw it away if its a simple fix. please if anyone know i would greatly appreciate it.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

There often were more than one build of Apple computer per model number designation...
In the instance of iBook (white dualUSB) there appear to be two with number A-1007.
And both of these were 14-inch display models.
    •iBook G3/800 14-Inch (32 VRAM - Tr) 800 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)
    •iBook G3/900 14-Inch (Early 2003 - Op) 900 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)
•Apple iBook Specs (All iBook Technical Specs) for entire series - everymac:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
There are a few fairly good repair guides online, some on http://iFixit.com site.
Here's the link to the early iBook G3 series, includes color + white dualUSB.
If your iBook is a 14-inch G3 white dualUSB model that one is there, too:
    •iBook G3 Repair guides - iFixit:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iBook_G3
Either of these may be able to run a system no later than OS X Tiger 10.4.11.
So a system install disc set could be used to troubleshoot, install, restore &
prepare a replacement hard drive for a new system.
Not certain what the issues are behind your situation, there may be more than
meets the eye. Some models of iBook were more prone to hardware problems
and as they age, fewer opportunities to affordably repair them exist.
Good luck in resolving the iBook G3 issues...!

  • Some basic questions from a mac newbie

    hi,
i have been using linux and windows all this while, and recently began using an apple too. have some simple questions here that i hope to get some answers for.
    1. is there something similar to /etc/hosts in linux where i can add the IP address of a server? this is for me to use the 'ssh' command in the terminal
    2. when i open up an application, say safari or chrome, i want the window to fill the entire screen automatically, instead of having to drag the bottom right of the window to fill the screen. how to configure that?
    3. when i close an application by clicking on the 'x' at the top left, why is it that it still appears in the list when i press command+tab? to remove the application from the list, i have to right click on its icon on the dock, then click 'quit'. this is rather troublesome.
    appreciate any help!

The /etc/hosts file is there, but the /etc/ folder is hidden. You can use the Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/) to access it via Unix, or could enter "open /etc" in the Terminal to open that folder in the Finder.
However, I'm not sure how this relates to ssh... I have not needed to modify that file, yet I can ssh all I need to. Are you trying to connect to your new Mac via ssh, or connect to other machines from the Mac via ssh?
    2. when i open up an application, say safari or chrome, i want the window to fill the entire screen automatically, instead of having to drag the bottom right of the window to fill the screen. how to configure that?
Just drag the window out to full-screen and the browser should remember and open new windows at that size in the future. There are also some utilities (one called "Right Zoom" IIRC?) that will make the zoom button (green + button) behave more like the Windows zoom button.
    3. when i close an application by clicking on the 'x' at the top left, why is it that it still appears in the list when i press command+tab?
Applications shouldn't quit just because you close their last window, unless the application's entire user interface is contained within that window. That is the case with ALL Windows apps, since there's no global menu bar, but only in some Mac apps. This is something that always ticked me off big-time with Windows... there have been times when I carelessly closed a window I didn't need anymore, but wanted to keep using the app, and then had to wait for it to load again. That won't happen on the Mac.
If this bothers you, just use the key combination command-Q to quit apps.
