Possibly, or it could still be a weak psu, short caused by debris or extra standoff, damaged cpu or socket, damaged pcie slot etc.
That's what you should completely remove the mobo count the stand offs and make sure there are no extras or other objects shorting the mobo.
Check device manager and make sure all drivers are installed.
If you can get you hands on a better psu try it, just to be sure.(although if it runs the gpu on the other mobo its probably alright to skip)
Remove and inspect the cpu and socket/ re-seat the cpu
If all that turns up nothing then yes, its probably the board.
Well, I actually decided to try my GPU on my old Mobo, right now is working. I did all of that and of course, installed the chipset drivers, perhaps hoping that it would make the mobo recognize the PCI slot, which didn't happen. Of course I really much appreciate your help, but since all the options above didn't fix the problem, it turns out that I got a defective mobo, which is sad. Just to make myself sure, Im gonna try to get another PSU, but I don't think is gonna make any difference, since my old MB is more demanding than the new one.  You are free to close this thread. Then again, thank you very much for your help.

The limitation is caused by your processor.

  • Neo4 Plat SLI 1st PCIe slot issue

When I place an Aopen GF6800GT in the upper PCIe slot the system will hang at Memory test according to the D bracket. If I pull it out and boot with no vid card the system goes threw everything normal according to d bracket, I have no idea since I can't see anything.  If I put the card in the lower PCIe slot the system boots normally except I am stuck at 1x speed.  I have pulled everything from the board except CPU,Mem,Vid card and it's all the same, waited without power cord for 30min, all the tricks.  Is this a bad PCIe slot or is this something else.  I have read a few posts about vid card problems with this board.  Any ideas? My last thing to try is a BIOS update, mine isn't the most recent however I don't have high hopes for that solution...
This is the first time I bought an MSI board since their first Athlon board and it had to be RMA'd too, glad to see nothing has changed the last 5 years

That's my point.  Quality built boards have NO luck of the draw they are engineered with a bit more insight then a flimsy plastic piece rubbing over little metal contacts.  This is a horrible design....period.
    I can't agree more!!!

But anyway, this isn't about bashing MSI.  I called tech support today.  If they have any switch cards they will send me one, wait time was <1min, have to give them credit there it was a painless experience.  Did everyone elses come with the switch card pre installed?  Just wondering if the switchcard was damaged at the "factory" or if somehow I got a used board.
I got 2 off these boards, and both come with switch card installed correctly and working. The problem only occurs when change from non-SLI to SLI, and then go back to original position. Because the switch card is damage by his latch, so is necessary lock it with the latch then use the damaged side.
As it was said by Anandtech, "We doubt that the lock will last through many changes from normal to SLI and back. In addition, once the pin is turned to unlock the SLI selection card, it is extremely difficult to lock the SLI card again once you have switched the mode. Someone in MSI design needs to take a look at this little plastic part and improve it before MSI gets a raft of RMAs because users can't secure the SLI card with a broken "lock pin"."

  • H61M-E33 B3 - PCI slot not working ?

    Hi,
I've plugged a working (tested on another PC) WIFI DLINK PCI card on the motherboard (H61M-E33 B3) and it's not detected by windows 7 64bits or by the PC itself (the on card green LED isn't lightening).
I've updated to the latest version of the motherboard BIOS with Live5.
Except that, the PC is working fine.
    I've an Intel icore3 and 8gb of ddr3 ram.
Anyone ever had this kind of problem ?
    Thx

Most likely a compatibility problem. Might check with the card manufacturer for any update information. Other suggestion is to contact MSI Tech Support with a ticket reporting the problem. They may be able to look at it from their end. http://support.msi.com
    I'll try that, thx.
The PCI card is a DLINK DWA-547 wifi card, in case you ever read problem about this one.

  • Terratec 2400i DT issues with H61M-P20 (G3)

    Good morning,
I am experiencing an issue with a newly assembled system, running Windows 8, on H61M-P20 G3 motherboard, and a Terratec 2400i DT
In a nutshell, the Terratec driver fails to install and start
During installation, I get an error message stating the device could not be started
After a restart, the device manager always show the Terratec board as 'could not be started'
The same Terratec board works fine in another system
    Any advice would be appreciated
    Thanks and regards
    Vincent

Well I have not had a chance to test this particular board into another Win8 system.
That said, I did check on the Terratec forum, and it is supposed to be supported.
I did a few additionnal tests since I wrote this request, I upgraded my setup to Win8.1, and I have a different behaviour now.
    - The driver can install properly
    - Upon a reboot, the driver does shot as installed and loaded, but... I lost network connection (no IP adress acquired, even though the network driver is shown to be loaded correctly)
    - MCE can scan, but does not detect any channel
    - If I uninstall completely the Terratec driver, then reboot, I recover my network connection
I can repeat these tests and reproduce the exact same sequence above
This looks to me there is an overlap in PCI-E config space, between the network controller and the terratec board.

Duel Fan Speed Controller in PCI slot

    Hi-
Most important is that the PCI slot fan exhausts- that it isn't just an air mixer. Next, to get the most cooling, you'll want as many cfm's as possible. There are all kinds of gimmicks, and brand names like Thermaltake and Vantec have their versions.
I think the following is a reasonable performer, and has the desirable form factor
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=39598 &CatId=804
The following Thermaltake has high cfm's, but may be a bit loud:
    http://www.aerocooler.com/shop.cart?action=ITEM&prod_id=FANTT2375
At 32 cfm though, it would really help exhaust hot air from inside the tower, and help the PSU (and other components) run cooler, and perform better.
    Here's a 21 cfm version:

  • Try new pci slot --- crash wind

I was having issues with the driver installer not detecting my SB2 Platinum in windows XP. I tried moving the card to a new slot and now when I boot windows it only works for about 90 seconds before I get a hard crash, as if I had pressed the reset button, every time I boot. The card works fine in ubuntu linux. Something is going on in windows after moving the card to a new PCI slot, as reccomended to remedy the driver installer issue.
I have tried both the CD installer and the downloaded drivers and there is no way to get either to work. The card worked for years in this computer and now it won't play nice with windows after a fresh install.
    Any Ideas?

  • PCIE Slot Check error

My Mac Pro (10.5.6) is crashing. Console shows a PCIE Slot Check error.
Is this something I can fix by starting over again with a fresh Leopard installation - or is it a hardware issue?
I can't get the Tech Tools CD sold with my computer to work will not load. I ordered the new Tech Tools Pro 5 - but it still is not here.
I am stuck - a big mac crashing over and over again.
What is the PCIE slot check - and what should I do? The Mac Pro is under warranty - but the closest Apple store is 120 miles away.
    Dick

I tried to load the Tech Tools disk that came with the MacPro - but it will not load. There is an update for the Tech Tools - but you have to have tech tools loaded first to use it - a catch 22.
I ordered Tech Tools Pro 5 - but it seems that they are very slow to ship.
I am waiting now with everything unplugged. What is "resetting the smu ? That is a new one to me - and I thought that I knew everything about Macs.
I am running out of ideas. I have a new 1TB HD also on order - and I had planned to put in a new HD - load a virgin set of Leopard with no other software and see what the MacPro does then.
I have 10 GB of Crucial RAM - and this machine has been working well for over 1 year. Only recently it has started to freeze and crash - and now it is constant.

  • Full height pcie slot

Is anyone using the full height PCIe slot in the x120e?
Nothing I put in there is recognized in Windows 7.
If I move the current 1/2 height wireless to the full slot, it still does not work so I know it's not the card I'm using (which works in the 1/2 height slot).
I've tried a new wireless card and an HD decoder card and nothing works in the full slot.

I *think* it is designed solely for a WAN type card, so no dice for me.
I've tried a wireless card (Intel 5300) and a Broadcom HD decoder with no luck.
I've even moved the 1/2 height card that came with the device into the full height slot and it simply isn't recognized.
No BIOS errors, but the device (no matter what I put there) ever shows up in Windows.
The parts list lists it as a "WAN" slot, so I guess that's all that will work which is a horrible horrible disapointment.

  • Any recomendations for PCI slot configuration

Setting up a new Mac Pro, venturing into HDV. For the 4 PCI slots I have 2 GeForce cards, a Kona LHe, and the last slot will get the SCSI card for a RAID array.
When I put in the Kona Card I got a PCI configuration app on boot. It gave me several choices for configuring the slots at varous speeds, (16x, 8x, 4x, 1x).
The slots are not set independently. For example, The appropriate configuration per AJA support was the choice that gave: 16x for Video Card 1, 8x for Video card 2, 4x for the Kona, and 1x for the currently empty, (soon to have the SCSI card) slot.
Note: Per AJA support, the Kona is operating at full speed at 4x, however the Mac reports (the slot?) is operating at below maximum speed. As it does for the GeForce operating at 8x.
So my question is (finally - thank you if you are still with me) I am anticipating seeing this utility again when the SCSI card is installed. Is there minimum speed selection I should be aware of to prevent dropped frames etc. I am assuming if I need to reduce one of the other slots to get a higher speed for the SCSI the video cards are likley candidates. I cant think of any issues I would have running them at 8x or even 4x.
    Thanks,
    John
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Dual 2Ghz

On the new Mac Pro systems, I don't believe you can get a 16/8/4/1 setup.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWtechPCI/Articles/pciimplementation.html
Based on my experience with the Kona 3 and the PCIe Configurator, the best you can get is 16x, 8x, 1x, and 1x. The previous G5 systems did allow a 16/8/4/1, but not the newer models.
I currently ran into this issue setting up a Mac Pro with a Kona 3, X1900, and a SATA card. ATTO has some nice features, but it needed an 8x slot...which doesn't play with the Kona 3 and x1900. Not enough bandwidth left over.

  • DIMM1 now read as PCI Slot?

    Hey guys, Happy Holidays!
My Board/System is actually running great right now, so this is more of an observation/warning than urgent cry for help. I recently changed from Corsair TWINX 3700 (434) DDR SDRAM to Corsair XMS 3500C2 (417) DDR SDRAM. The resukt was a terrific increase in performance, stability, and especially OC (210@1:1 to 223@1:1  PAT Turbo). However I was flying so high cuz of the big OC that I got greedt and tried to boot with 220FSB and use Clock Generator to get more. It worked! Until I hit 227FSB where I had a hard  crash. This probably is wehat killed my Promise RAID ), and also made DIMM1 no longer readable as full! In fact it reads in Sandra, AIDA32, SMBIOS viewers, Windows info etc. as a PCI Slot. I moved my RAM to DIMMs 2&4 and all is good (I hope).  Any thoughts, comments, jokes at my expense ? It may just be the SMBIOS being the way it sometimes is but, food for thought...

Actually, all of my various utilities, including the Tool House USA diagnostic suite, seem to have reestablished accurate reads of the MOBO. SANDRA 2004 however, still claims that I have DIMM4 occupied w/ 512 DIMM3 empty DIMM2 occupied w/ 512 and PCI Slot empty.
Could I have actually screwed up so badly that I shifted signals or current signatures (these are just terms I am using in an attempt to sound competent).  :hypecrite: I gotta tell you man, at this point even if the bloody thing is planning on blowing u and taking me with it, I still do not want to give up on it! I shudder to think of the possibility of starting over w/ another board. And even though I am quite fond enough of my fast little "Neo", I do not think I could justify replacing it with a second. There just seem to be MOBOS which are better buys considering we are now in possession of all the facts we did not have access to 6 months ago. By the way, my system is absolutely flyin, and far from displaying any signs of instability, it has actually stopped the little problems it had untill the Promise RAID went kaput!. My UPS no longer gives config errors in the Event Viewer. My games, 321 X-Copy, IE6, and backup programs are just ripping along like never before. One other note (I thought I had stated this earlier, sorry) I had Norton Ghost 2003 installed for use w/ an IDE Drive which I would fill with important data, backups etc.. In other words, even though the Symantec people told me it was safe, I was just too suspicious of the imaging process with a striped array. I did use it once a while back (on the Intel ICH5R RAID, never Promise) before I had gained anything even remotely related to a clue but everything worked fine, and I have since even established  the DVD-RW image integrity.
Sorry dude, I cannot seem to make my posts concise. I hope you understand that I am not yet totally comfortable with either the subject matter, nor the medium  Which is why this post is somewhat redundant in light of your last post.  Thanks for your time, and the positive news.

  • NEO-FIS2R PCI Slot IRQ Information

I've got a NEO-F1S2R on the way and am trying to figure out where I should place my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and Hauppauge PVR250 for optimum performance. In the past I found that I had to place my soundcard on PCI slot with its own IRQ, same with the PVR250, to get the best results (if not I found I got pops and crackles during audio playback).
Can anyone tell me how IRQs are assigned to each of the PCI slots? Which slot is shared with the AGP slot. Which slot(s) are shared with the RAID controller? I've searched high and low but can't find this information.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Mike

you definatly want your own irq for the m-audio/midiman card, in my case i have my hammerfall card running in slot 3 (2 away from agp) and my uad card in slot 4 and both have there own irq without having to assign in bios, this might not be your issue though as maudio cards are very shoot and miss, althought it might cost 2-3 times as much as your soundblaster card, it is on the entry level tier of pro audio cards, having this said and done, they do sound great if they get working properly,
if you continue having problems after you solve your irq issues hit me a pm, as i am very experienced with recording systems of most platform, first thing i can tell you is if your using cubase sx or nuendo, make sure you select asio drivers for your midiman card,  apologies if youve already been this far, but that is the most overlooked part of a vst system, (if asio is a selection in your app be it sonar or acid ect pick asio over andy dx or mme drivers as they are the most low latency and high performing for windows pro audio solutions) other than that check your buffer setting from your apps, 1024 buffers is most recomended and will give you about 23 milliseconds of latency, smaller buffers will will reduce your latency but will require more juice from your system ect, again aplogies if you already know this,

    4gigs of corsair reg/ecc pc-3200

I have a problem with scsi I have tried 3 different scsi ultra 160 pci cards (Adaptec asc-29160, Lsi Logic LSIU160, and another LSi Logic card) all giving me the same errors. The problem is the scsi card displays error HAVE OPTION ROM CAN NOT BE INVOKE (VENDOR...) and so on. In addition,  I have tried everything I can think of to get the scsi card to initialize the motherboard bios.  I have also tried many different bios for the k8n master2 motherboard that I could get my hands on without any luck. I have done some searching on google for a compatible scsi card for the K8n Master2 motherboard with no luck, and I was wandering if anyone here has gotten a scsi card to work and what model it may be so I can get an idea what to get. Did you turn off the onboard Raid controllers and Sata controller?
Some of then can use a SCSI-type Option rom and thus blocking your SCSI rom.
Hi, yea I have turned off all Sata and Raid controllers even serial and parrell ports to free up IRQ settings with no luck. Also, I can access the motherboard bios when I do not have scsi card installed, but when I boot up with the scsi card in pci slot and try to go into the motherboard bios my computer just locks up everytime not allowing me to get into bios. In addition, I have been using scsi for many many years with previous computer setups never having a issue with the scsi card rom not being invoked. The scsi card rom settings allow me to turn of any Boot, IRQ settings, or vendor ID settings but by doing this I cant not have a fixed drive number in Windows Xp which does not allow the scsi hard drive to convert to dynamic disk for mirror or stripping.

  • KT4 Ultra PCI slot not recognising Audigy

Just wondering if you guys could help me out on this.
I have a KT4 Ultra mobo with two of the six PCI slots occupied by a generic/Conexant ADSL modem and the card part of an Audigy 2 Platinum eX. Everything was working fine until two days ago. Then, I opened my case to read the details of the PSU (for a proposed graphics card purchase that has now been canned due to said PSU being underpowered). However, when I booted up again neither the sound card nor the modem were recognised in Windows. I rebooted several times and the problem remained. So, I removed the case and moved the cards into different slots. I booted up again and there were 8 beeps, a pause, and then a further 2 beeps, but nothing appeared on the screen. I moved the cards around again and ensured that they were seated firmly in the slots. The PC then booted up but nothing appeared on the screen. I fixed this by pushing the graphics card (Radeon 9000 Pro) more firmly into its slot - presumably it had come unseated somehow when I had opened the case. This time, the PC booted up and, although the modem was recognised, it would not connect. I reinstalled the modem drivers and then it connected and functioned fine, however the sound card remains undetected. Should I try to reseat the card in its current slot or should I move it to a different slot? I just don't want to cause another problem by disturbing everything!
Apologies for my general newbieness: despite being a computer science student I have never built a PC myself and would consider myself a novice when it comes to the practical side of PC hardware. I guess I should take apart and rebuild the nine-year-old PC that is sitting in the garage!
    Thanks for your help,
    Nick
