MOVED: Help overclocking

Did a little better today , but still not much success. I can lower the fsb all day long and it will boot just fine. Pchas01 using your settings it did better than it ever did , made it all the way to the windows loading screen before it locked up . Usually it just does not post at all. Tried several different settings and the closest I made it was using Phas01 settings. I did not adjust the vvt because I honestly did not know witch voltage setting to mess with  .Like I said still really green at this . Could this be a ram to cpu ration problem ? Memory is running at 5-5-5-18 timmings and is stable at those timmings with a fsb of 900. Like I said in a post earlier  I can overclock to 2.7 with the duel core thing and run prime 95 with crashes.
Maybe this would be easier if I let you guys know what I am trying to archive. Right know until I learn more about this stuff all I want to accomplish is a little ole 3.0 over clock .When I gain more knowledge I am sure I will try to push the envelope, but thats all I want for know.
 Thanks for you help

funny names for the same stuff just to confuse users
Pretty much says it all.    On all the forums I go to you have to "read between the lines" and go with what makes sense because everybody seems to use different names.  When you break it down and run the numbers usually you can "translate" what they are saying into what you like to call it.  Definetly confusing for the those trying to learn.
I prefer when people use HT for HyperTransport Bus instead of HTT(HyperTransportTechnology), and HTT or FSB(even though FSB if it's absolutely incorrect name in A64) for the base clock generator for which HT, CPU are based on.
Reason being, alot of applications Clockgen, A64 Overclock Calc, etc use "HTT" for the clockgenerator which is not the HyperTransport speed in those applications.  Who came up with this and when or why is a mystery, and no one seems to know what it stands for.  I call it the HyperTransportTimer(HTT) as it is the best words I can come up with that actually describe it's use.

What about mem voltage, vcore, nforce voltage settings?
Start out with everything default/auto and see how far you can get.  You might reach your target on stock settings with a decent 165.

Hi Halvor1, please look at the other forum members' posts for examples of how to post your system specs.  The file you uploaded to speedyshare.com probably includes much of the info being requested, but it is way too much information and too much hassle for someone to sift through.  If you'd really like other users to help you, please help them by posting your specs.  The best method is to add it to your user profile (see my signature below as well as any other member's signature).

I know this topic is old but i have been having this same problem as andy and i cant figure it out. Also im sorry if i wasnt suppose to continue on someones thread but i thought it would be easier since we had the same problem. I have the same mobo and cpu, this only happens when i try to OC. when i set it back to stock bios it doesnt happen. Event id 41 with a random reboot and no BSOD. i dont know what to do anymore besides revert back to stock. IF anyone can help me let me know.
i have oc to 4.4 multiplier with 34x uncore ratio.
things i have tried. set everything to auto except those two settings above.
    changed oc multiplier to fixed/dynamic.
turned off xmp lowered ram to 1333mhz ddr3
tested vcore from 1.15 to 1.265 in bios.
    vccin at 1.9 to 1.95
    vring to 1.15
auto offset settings (vcore/vrin) - also tried .001 offset as well
    turned off and on c-states
    C1E off
ram timing and volts to auto or manual timings of 9-10-9-28-2 1.5V which were found on the box of ram
ive ran memtest+86 for 4 runs with no problems
    sfc/scannow -checked out ok
    ran antivirus/malware
    ccleaner
    lowered cpu multiplier to x40
i passed AIDA64 and prime95 with 6 hours each with vcore at 1.2 but its reboots randomly when on light load like internet browsing.

I/O is ridiculously high. I can run Corsair RAM at 2800 on only I/O of 1.09v's, SA 0.970v's. Bernhard is right, '1.52v's' on the CPU is 'Absolute Max.', and the industry recommendation is not to exceed '1.400v's'.
Nominal DRAM V. for the platform is 'not' 1.65v's, but 1.50v's + or - 0.075v's. Your RAM sounds like overvolted, undertimed, overated RAM.
GT is the onboard graphics. GT ratio 32 is about all it can handle on default voltage.
It's your stuff, if you want to test higher, the risk to the components and lifespan is all up to you.
I think Bernhard wanted to link the Gen3 CPU datasheet rather than the Gen2.
I found datasheet for third gen of intel core, exact
G.skill ddr3 pc17000 is delivered with nominal voltage 1.65v for 2133Mhz, where is problem ?  I've just made 3 hours of occt  at 2600mhz, not tested higher for now
So I/o in auto mode is really too high with 1.25V ? so i took this voltage as nominal reference
Not so easy to overclock ivy bridge, I 'll stop to search highest frequency, 4,6Ghz even with 1.36V is not stable in occt with too high core temps 80°C, so sa xmad sayed, 4.5Ghz is a nice overclock
I'll try to optimise DDR speed and timing now.
    Thanks for answers

Updated my BIOS a few days ago, now there is no way to OC. From what I understand I enable "My OC Genie" but that option isnt even availible. No way to change multiplier or voltage. Plus a few other things.

My suggestion is update to the latest BIOS since it's improved RAM compatibility.
And see this compatibility report for OC memory, but crucial only tho..

  • Need help overclocking Phenom 2 1100T cpu on a 890FXA-GD70 mobo

Need help overclocking a AMD Phenom 2 1100T cpu on a 890FXA-GD70 motherboard. I only want to overclock the cpu, not my ram. Basically, I need to know which voltages to change and at what voltages to start at. Also, I've currently have the cpu multiplier and Turbo Core multiplier set at 3.7/3.9, not the stock 3.3/3.7.
    Computer Spec's
    NZXT Tempest EVO case
    MSI 890FXA_GD70 motherboard
    AMD Phenom 2 1100T cpu
Corsair Hydro Series H80 heatsink (mediem setting)
    G-Skill Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 ram 16 gbs @ 9-9-9-24-40-2T (going to be getting Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 16 gb. kit in 2/12)
OCZ ZX Series 1250 watt modular psu
OCZ Vertex 3 120 gb. Max IOPS ssd
2 Western Digital Caviar Black 1.0 tb. hard drives
HIS Digital IceQ X Turbo X Radeon HD 6950 2.0 gb. video card (getting 2nd IceQ X TurboX HD 6950 2.0 gb. for CrossfireX next month)
    Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1850 tv tuner
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

If you didnt adust the multipliers for anything or changed the FSB then simply bump your CPU (Not CPUNB) to about ~1.42v   that should keep it stable.
Run Prime95 or Intel Burn test for a couple hours to make sure

  • Help overclocking p7n diamond.

I need alittle help overclocking . I can overclock with the duel core center ok with a fsb of 300 , putting memory at 900 and chip at 2700. When I go into the bios and try doing any changes to the fsb it will not post . I think i did everything to dissable speed stepping , but I am really green at this. Any way I tried to match what I was getting in the duel core center fist. Set the fsb frequency to 1200 left the memory linked , with the multiplier at 9 just as a starting point . It will not boot . I have to reset cmos every time I try adjusting the fsb any at all. Temps look good. I am stumped.  2.7 is really stable with good temps. I just  really want to get this baby higher . All equipment is in my sig and the q6600 is a GO .
     Thanks

if you have a MSI motherboard look on the driver cd. maybe you can find corecenter. if you cant find it. use clockgen for increasing HTT bus speed, A64tweaker for regulating anything that has to do with memory, and use a program like speedfan or smartguardian to control your fans and temps. good luck.

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147061.0

Topic moved due to Overclocking questions.
You should be able to get 3 GHZ or slightly more with all on Auto in the BIOS.
For a start though, remove one set of RAM and only leave three modules. You can add the others later.
In the BIOS Cell Menu, set your DRAM ratio, so that your Mem speed is at 1333. The reason is that you will be increasing your Base Clock and the RAM speed will increase as you do this.
Now increase your Base clock to about 145. Restart and test for stability. Repeat this by going up about 5 or 10 on the base clock each time. You should be able to get to 150-165 BCLK without having to change voltages. But you will need to find the limit with your particular hardware. Suggest you get it to 155. If its stable, then add your other RAM and retest.
In order to get you started and for you to understand the basics, I recommend that you read the following guide that will explain Overclocking on this platform to you. http://www.overclockers.com/3-step-guide-overclock-core-i3-i5-i7/
    Have fun.

PC Power & Cooling have a long reputation as being a high-end PSU manufacturer(also been doing it much longer).  If paying the extra £15.00 doesn't mean much, then go for the PC P&C. If the funds are tighter, get the Corsair.  I have the PC P&C Silencer 750.
My guess Henry, is that kmufc77 was linking to either of these Silencer 750 PC P&C PSUs

The Silencer 610 would be more than enough for the 4870, but the 750 will give greater overhead and room for upgrades to more power hungry components or Crossfire.

yes you are right i have ordered the Silencer 750 PC P&C PSUs but a black colour not red i payed the extra over the corsair 750W purely on the repitation of PC P&C PSUs. i hope i have made the right choice as i considering crossfire in the very near future
