  • Cant boot pc after Bios Flash

I finally got my K7N2 mobo working so i decided to flash the bios to get rid of those faulty temps. the flas was sucessful and it restarted but now it wont boot up ive tryed everything i can think of and still nothing any ideas?

    Kagato,
I have the K7N2, flashed the bios to the latest the other day looking for the temp detection fix. And basically mine did the same thing and I believe it is some sort of weird ram problem. It took a good 3 hrs to get mine to boot after the flash, although, I have to say i think it was booting some of the times, just no video signal. Then sometimes when I hit the power button, it would seem to get power for a split second then none. Eventually, after many attempts, (finally got it going by hitting the reset button until it booted with video signal) it booted and the temp had dropped 20 C!!! The machine ran fine but just try to reboot it, lol. I was running 512mb of generic 333 ddr (single stick), last night I added a second stick to the second channel and presto, boots fine! Weird problems! Also, with the single stick in, I had to run the ram by spd, after adding the second stick, I cranked the ram settings up in the cmos and it works great.
I will also mention that I run a 2100+ in it @ 2700+ by setting the fsb to 166 and the vcore to 1.625.
    Good Luck, Brewer

  • HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK A9J83EA#ABU MODEL G6 1371ea. Notebook wont boot up after bios update.

I am using windows 7 Home Premium ........Whever i restart my notebook,i received the message corrupt or missing bios(501) and was advised to go to www.hp.com/techcentre/start up... i was advised to update my bios, which i did but when it got to the part of shutting down to restart it froze on the "shutting down" screen for so long that i cut the power in the end. Now i cant get my notebook  to boot up. I only get one light which is white and its located where i insert the power cord.
    PLEASE NOTE:
Before this happened, i did get the error message a few times prior and whenever i updated my bios, all was fine for a day or so...then i would receive the message again. If i logged off from windows at all ...or all power was cut from my notebook, i would get the "black screen" problem where the caps light would flash etc. but it would stay in that state for just minutes, then i would hear the fan kick in and windows started up normally from there. I opted to try a system restore and discovered the option wasnt available to me so i took  the notebook to my local repair store and asked that they upload windows7 home premium again to start from afresh. All was well from that point and then once again, i received the error message about the bios so i updated it once again....from that update, ive not been able to get my notebook back on. This happened 5 days ago and ive posted everywhere without a single response....please help

I saw your post regarding the problems with the BIOS. I would start by doing a Hard Reset to see if a clean restart helps get you going. The only other thing that you can try is Restoring the BIOS to go back to the previous version. What program was prompting you to update the BIOS?

  • Help: PC doesn't start after BIOS flash

    Hi,
I've killed my MSI K8N SLI Platinum Mobo
Used the live update to flash it.  Flash seemed to work ok, but all is not well.
PC will boot to BIOS and I can change the BIOS parameters if necessary.
But after that, screen goes blank, and Windows won't start.
There is a blue screen which appears for a fraction of a second with some text on.
It's too fast to read though.
Its almost like it can't find the Hard Disk (a SATA drive).
SATA appears to be enabled in the BIOS.
Tried restoring it with the BIOS recovery disk that I created during the flash process, but it make no
    difference.
So where do I go from here?
    Help please
    Pete

I tried using the floppy that was created during the flash procedure - emergency BIOS recovery disk.
I hoped that would save me from this if anything went wrong.
It hasn't. Flashing with that - which puts the original BIOS back - made no difference.
Still crashing at Windows boot time.
I assume this is no different to getting a DOS boot disk and using a flash program to flash it?
If there is a better method, could you point me to the flash program and instructions how to use it.
    Thanks
    Peter

hey thanks for your reply. yes i made sure everything was enabled and i just fixed my own problem. just for the heck on it i called msi tech support [talked to a real smart fella] and he told me that sometimes you need to jumper the drive when your using a single hard drive. i played with it a few minutes and it worked. its installing xp right now. i guess you learn something new everyday.

  • G4 powerbook wont boot up after safari update

    Hi,
my G4 powerbook wont boot up after a safari update lastnight. Everything was fine untill this morning when i booted it up and it gets stuck on the grey screen with a white apple.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • Satellite P100-240 wont boot up after failed BIOS update

Hi, let me just start by saying im an idiot....
Dowloaded a few drivers for my toshiba p100 240 and noticed there was a BIOS update, i downloaded it and ran the program only for it to come up with
an error that it will only allow the Administrator to run program. My laptop became slow and would not allow me to turn it off by any means. In the end i took out the
battery and restarted only to find a blank screen, no start up or anything on screen.
I fear i have totally killed my machine and its about 4 months out of warrenty, Im sure there is no cheap miricle cure for this but if anyone can give me my options here I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks for your time,
    Martin.

    Hi mate,
Thats a bit of a problem... If your machine really wont boot up and no screen comes up, then your BIOS was probably damaged.
I would really recommend you to contact an [authorized service partner|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_whitepaper.jsp?service=EU&WHITEPAPER_ID=0 000000871] and tell them your problem. Maybe they can do something for. I mean, your machines hardware is ok, and its just some BIOS related thing.
Hope your machine will work again..

  • Satellite M60 will not boot up after BIOS update through windows

    Hi all,
I was updating my bios on my M60 with the latest bios version and I was following the windows flashing procedure (the recommended one) and it blue screened and dumped. Now the laptop wont boot, wont even post. Just a big dead brick :(
I'm fairly proficient with hardware (I'm a software engineer) but I do not know how to reflash a laptop when this sort of thing happens. Is there a trigger bios reset on board? Is there anything I can do my self? If I take it back to my dealer how likely is it they will be able to reflash the bios in house? (Its a fairly large dealer in the Toronto area)
This being a work system I need the solution that has the smallest time impact - cost is not too big an issue.
    Any help would be grand,
    thanks in advance.

    Hello Kristan
According to your problem description I presume the BIOS chip is damaged and unfortunately you can not do much alone. Please contact Toshiba service and explain them the situation. They will explain you everything you must know and you can talk with them about costs and the time they need for notebook repairing.

  • PC wont boot up after installing playbook via USB

Well. This morning I connected for the first time the Bb Playbook to my Dell M1730 Vista Laptop. I had already preinstalled the Bb desktop software to my PC. As soon as I connected my Playbook via USB, the computer detected it and proceeded to "install drivers" on the lower right side of the desktop next to where the clock is. It then booted up the Bb Desktop software which asked me to restart computer. I did, my computer did not boot up, lights came on but the screen never showed me anything. My Playbook which was still connected to the PC showed a screen that says: Installing Drivers. It shows a Monitor to the left and the playbook sign on the right with arrows between them. However I see nothing telling me its working on something, no % or status bar. Further more it tells me to open up the driver installation on my PC if it hasnt opened it yet. But my comp continues to show nothing. I disconected the Bb and tried to turn on comp again, now it does the same with or without thr blackberry plugged, it just stays there lights on but no screen or sounds. Only diff between when the Bb is attached or not is that the Bb automatically shows the screen previously described. I waited 20 min to see if it was really installing something but nothing happens.
    Help? Thanks!!

  • Neo2 not booting after BIOS flash

    Darn - after upgrading to v1.3 BIOS, my Neo2 FIS2R won't boot.
I got a brand new set of components - new CPU, Neo2 FIS2R, and 1GB of Kingston HyperX PC3200 memory (22261T).  I put everything in my system (Antec case, 400W P/S) and it booted fine with the v1.0 BIOS and I was able to install WinXP to my new 120GB SATA drive and my ATI9700Pro.  Great - I know all my components work.
I install LiveBios and it shows me that v1.3 is out and enables MAT and DOT - the two features I bought the mobo for.  So I download the latest via LiveBios, build the floppy (my system uses NTFS to boot) and reboot.
The BIOS flash process goes smoothly and I wait all the way to the end.  I shut off the system and reboot - nothing, just a blank screen.  So I shut it off, clear CMOS, and reboot again - still nothing.  I try several more times, still nothing.  However, recovery mode works so I reflash 1.3 a couple times to see if that will help, but it does not.
Finally, I build a floppy with v1.2 BIOS as the recovery BIOS and use recovery mode to load that.  Still no go.
It is at this point that I discover and plug in those diags LEDs (I was using the onboard USB header to bring the USB ports to the front of the case) and find that it is stopping almost immediately at the 'early chipset identification' phase.  Ouch.  Oh, and at this point the BIOS recovery mode no longer works.  Ouch.
Any thoughts?  At this point I got an RMA number from the vendor and I'm thinking I'm just sending it back.

Unfortunately I can't even get to that phase - the system won't show the post splash screen or post at all.  It just sits there blank (I know I wasn't clear on where the boot process was stopping - it doesn't even allow me to enter rom-based setup.)
So I'd love to set vdimm to something else, but I can't.

  • P67a-c43 boot loop after bios update

Last night, I attempted to update the bios on my P67A-C43 (B3) board using the version 5.1 bios. After the BIOS installed, it restarted and came up with the "all settings were reset to default values. press f1 to run setup. press f2 to continue" I hit f2 and my system keeps resetting in an infinite boot loop. I was able to reset the BIOS using the reset button on the back of the board to get back to the bios prompt, but pressing either f1 or f2 puts it back into the boot loop. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
The blue screens started after a clean Bios flash to the 18b10 bios then eventually it stopped working complety (just doing the start up cycle over and over)
I had tried reseting cmos and it doesnt make a difference, the motherboard will not post , boot , start up at all so default settings cant be set (although reseting cmos would set to default anyway)
Each time the board goes through the start up cycle (i.e. upon pressing start button the board will start up with fans spinning for a second then shut down, start up again with fans spinning for a second then shut down, continuasly repeating until main power is removed) I have used a multimeter to measure the voltage read points on the board and they show that there is no vcore being suplied to the cpu but all other points show the voltage is being supplied to those componants, so imo that is where the problem lies and I would sugest that the other ppl who are having this issue to also try  measuring the voltage read points and see if the same thing is happening on thier boards .
If others are getting the same results (no vcore) then the msi techs should be informed of this issue..(imo)
1.8b10 still is a beta bios. I got random bluescreens with that one also at some point a blinking bios led. So I flashed back from secondary bios (using the first option (change disable in enable)in "security" in the EFI shell to allow flashing from secondary bios), blinking bios led now stopped, Then I flashed with 1.7, no issues sofar cpu now running stable at 4.5Ghz (already 2 days).

  • My Mac Pro flashes the question mark and wont boot from hard drive, flash, or Cd... Please help!

My Computer froze so I shut it down... When I tryed to boot up again it wouldn't power up.  After a few tweeks I got it to power up but now it wont boot from the hard drive, flash drive or a cd.  It want to start, then, after a few seconds it stops.  Not sher what to do.  Can anyone help?

    Have you tried Safe Boot?
You also might reset PRAM and reset SMC.
Have you tried booting with the Recovery System? See its possibilities here.
From there you can make repairs to your primary startup partition.
Do you have a backup? If not, do you have an external drive large enough to back up your primary drive? It would be good to have one in case your drive needs repair or replacement.

  • T420s Boot problem after BIOS update

I updated T420s from 1.37 to 1.38 while laptop was in the dock, not connected directly to power.  Now it starts to boot then goes to a black screen and hangs.  If I use f11 to boot from a CD, then it boots normally to Windows 7 Pro and works fine.  I also notice the power indicator no longer lights, it only flashes a couple times then stays dark.
I still had 1.36 in my drivers so I tried going back to 1.36 BIOS, hooked to power this time, not dock.  That worked and it shows 1.36 version as the BIOS but boot behavior is the same.  Any ideas?
Moderator Note; subject edited; system type added

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I'm really sorry to hear that your Lenovo T420s does not boot properly after a BIOS update.
I would suggest you to disable Intel AMT in BIOS and set the security chip, TPM, as active in BIOS and check if the system boot properly.
Occasionally, a system BIOS flash procedure will not execute properly and a system may be hung in a black screen state. If the system not booting properly, it can often be recovered by clearing CMOS.
    Remove AC and System battery.
Press and hold the power button several times (3-5 time) for a count of 5 seconds
Reconnect AC and press the power button - if system starts normally, shut down and insert the battery
Remove the CMOS battery, and allow system to set for 30 minutes.
Location of CMOS battery and instructions for removal can be found in the hardware maintenance manual.
Try updating your docking station firmware as well.
Do post back if issue persists after performing the above troubleshooting steps.
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

    2. Tried to boot only with AC power without battery
    3. Tried to boot without RAM modules (also changed RAM modules without success)

I have read your post on how your notebook computer is not able to boot into the BIOS, that the CAPS lock is blinking, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To find out the meaning of the blinking light sequence, I recommend following this document on Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps. This should help determine the cause of the blank screen, as well as the interpretation for the blinking CAP locks light.
Please re-post with the specific blinking-light pattern with the CAP locks light, and I look forward to your reply!
