MOVED: Highest HTT with the SLI Platinum (MSI-7100)

Dont mess with the HT, it doesnt give you anything.
The highest FSB people have reported is in the range of 375 or higher. (HardOCP)
Keep your HT at 1000 or below by decreasing the Multiplier. (Normally set to 5x)
This has been explained in previous posts, but since Im being lazy and dont want to search for them, Ill just restate it.  The HT controls the bandwidth available on the board.  With 4 Hardrives in Raid, Two cards in SLI, a Dual Core Processor, 4 Sticks of RAM, and Two CD burners, all running 100% (Not possible, no program or sets of programs can achieve this.)  The required bandwidth is still below what you get at a HT of 1000 Mhz.  (Sorry dont remember the exact number, Its posted on an Overclocking site somewhere.)
Multiple people have done many tests and confirmed that the performance gain between 800 to 1000 HT is negligible and beyond 1000 HT is really nothing.  But to answer your question, I have hit a HT of 1275 before the board became unstable.  And again, when I say unstable, I mean I lost a harddrive, had to reload the operating system, and other generally bad things happened.

  • [Resolved] No boot with K8N sli Platinum & AMD 64 X2 3800+

    Hye,
I've received these new stuff last night (everything is good until here) :
    - Antec Sonata II 450W
    - MB MSI K8N SLI Platinum
    - Proc. AMD 64 X2 3800+
    - GC Sapphire X800 XL 256Mo
I've assembled all and turned it on... No bip... but all the fans are turning... and the screen says "No signal" and becomes black ( and me    )
    Can someone help me? Please?
On the MSI site, I also found this :
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=641&kind=1
Maybe the proc. and the Motherboard are not compatible? Has someone already tried this combinaison (MB+Proc.)?
    My Thanks in advance.

I will ask the sellers if they can update the Mobo for me.
But with the last version of the bios, will the mobo accept the dual-core with this proc. AMD 64 X2 3800+?
And if it's not possible I'll change the mobo.
    Thanks .................................. again.
Pretty much any SLI motherboard supports the X2 3800. MSI is just really pathetic sometimes. So, I had the Abit AN8 SLI before and their latest BIOS (17) supports all X2 CPUs. But Im sure most other brands support them too.

  • Net Issues with P6N SLI Platinum

Hello all. I am having issues getting the internet to work on my new system with the following specs:
Mother Board = MSI NVidia nForce 650i SLI Chipset Based P6N SLI Platinum
    CPU ............ = Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, LGA775 Pkg 2.40 GHz, 8MB L2 Cache Total, 1066 MHz FSB
    Memory ...... = Geil 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800 CL=5-4-4-12 1.9-2.5v (x4)
    PSU ............ = Zerodba 620W
    Video .......... = EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS
Hard Drives . = Seagate Barracuda 320 GB SATA 3/GB Transfer
    OS .............. = Vista Ultimate OEM 64-Bit
I can't get the system to recognize the router or network or even access the internet when plugged directly into the cable modem. I've power cycled plenty of times, and the other systems in my network work without fail. I've disabled UAC, windows firewall, and anything else that might be interfering on the software end. I have installed the latest drivers from the msi site, and have even installed the latest nforce drivers from NVidia's site as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    1. make sure you enable LAN in the BIOS
    2. make sure the LAN driver is properly installed in the BIOS
    3. make sure your cable modem can detect your LAN - did you implement MAC address filtering? set the LAN speed to be detectable by the cable modem, ie 10Mbps?
    1. The onboard LAN controller is enabled in BIOS
    2. Not sure how to go about doing this exactly.
    3. MAC address filtering is only enabled for wireless connections and it seems that the router is "seeing" the system. I have connected directly to the modem as well to no avail. I'm not sure how to set the LAN speed to be detectable to the cable modem.
"Check your network speed and try not to use Auto negotiation. Try setting it to 100Mbps full duplex, or 10Mbps full and see how it goes."
Where would I be able to adjust these settings exactly? Thanks for the help so far!

Hey Jack did you read the whole thing?
Obviously not good enough. I had a look at the official BIOS update changelogs and saw that v1.2 included fixes that have to do with S3.
    Quote
thought S1 was for sleep and S3 for hibernate.
Not exactly.  Just to make sure we are all talking about the same thing:
    Most common Important ACPI Standby-States:
    - S1
This is the most shallow sleep state. Power to CPU and RAM are maintained, fans keep spinning.
    - S3 (Suspend to RAM)
    Power to RAM is maintained.
    - S4 (Suspend to disk, Hibernate)
All content of main memory is saved on the hard drive, preserving the state of the operating system, all applications, open documents etc.  After everything was saved to disk, the system will turn off.
If I am not mistaken, all you can do in BIOS is choose between S1 and S3.  In Vista you should be able to choose beetween Standby/suspend (S1 or S3, depending on BIOS settings) and Hibernate (S4).
So again, which of the three states are you referring to?

Try to use a Windows XP install CD that allready includes SP2.  If you do not have one, you can use XP ISO BUILDER or NLite to create a new install CD based on your existing one.  Use Google to find one of the tools I mentioned.  Guides can be found all over the internet.
Use an up-to-date install CD and try again with that one.

  • Problems moving  an object with the selection tool

Im working on CS2 and since last week I have a problem moving objects with the selection tool: To move the object I am obligate to select the object first, and then click at the edge/stroke of the object to drag it. Before that I could move the objects just by selecting somewhere in the object and then just drag it to some other place in one step. I think I maybe changed something in the general preferences....

Ho thanks a lot Kurt!!!!! Indeed, that was the problem!!! Finally I can work normally again.... (the joker was me...but not on purpose)
    Thanks again!

  • Moving a windows with the keyboard

    Hello all,
I've had my mac for a while, and I absolutely love it! I've really increased my productivity by using one, and it makes Java development so much easier since the system is BSD Unix based. Unfortunately, I've run in to a problem that is incredibly frustrating, and I can't find a solution, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been using the an application called swf player to view video from Youtube. It has several windows in the application. Unfortunately, the player control window has somehow jumped "off" the left of my screen. When I perform FN+F9 to show all my windows, the player control is displayed, and I can click on it. However as soon as I do it is moved back off the left of my screen. In windows, you could right click on a running application in the taskbar, then click "move" and move it with the keyboard. In the dock, there is no option to "move". I'm sure one exists, I just can't find it anywhere. Can someone tell me how to get this windows back onto my desktop without uninstalling the application?
    Thanks,
    Todd

I just took a look at the preferences file for this program:
    http://www.swf-mac.com/swfplayer.html
I had moved the Control window to my second monitor, and sure enough there is an entry in the plist file for that location. So I trashed the plist file
    "/Users/francine/Library/Preferences/com.eltima.SWFMoviePlayer.plist"
Relaunched and the Control window was back in its original position. Of course, you will lose your playlist and recent items....

    ASUS EAX1950PRO

Problem:  I don't get the grpahics card post screen just the MOBO's and the video is all messed up.  There are multicolored vertical blinking lines running up and down the screen.  I can see through the clutter that it is posting fine (it looks for a boot device) but I figure I need to fix the graphics issue before going any further.
I am working on a new system, so at this point everything is unplugged except the RAM CPU and video card.  I have tested it out switching the ram sticks out so unless they are both bad it is not the ram.  What is my problem?  ANy help would be rad.

Test your video card in a different system or try a different video card in the P6N SLI Platinum.

I know how you feel I'm one of the ones who said MSI=great quality & great preformance.
I'm not knocking this board as its still new but to release something like this with such a horrible bios is rather unacceptable, I really expected more out of MSI. It's like game developers releasing half finished games and months later patch it to make it whole.
Come on MSI step it up.

polishedcar are you overclocking in bios ?
where are you getting stuck at with your fsb ?
what are your voltages at for your current overclock ?
Yes, I'm overclocking in BIOS. Not quite sure what you mean by your second part, but basically I can up to 1333.33 FSB and then after that if I boot up it still reads as 1333.33 FSB, but the BIOS says the correct FSB that I overclocked to. I reverted back to 1333.33 FSB (3GHz with Q6600) for now so I don't have the voltages for the higher overclocks, 3GHz runs fine and stable though.
    I don't think it's software and I'm 90% sure EIST is disabled.
EDIT: I seemed to have fixed it! I disabled "Spread Spectrum" and it worked! As a test, I tried 1350 FSB and CPU-Z reads it correctly.

That's too high and tight, most probably that holdon you back
Hi i'm back... my two sticks work very well on these spec. and in order to follow your advise i've lowered the ratio at 1.1.66 so that they can run less than 400 mhz and in spite of that i'haven't been able to rise my phenom more than 230 htt :(
I "googled" 2-3 hours to understand what could prevent me for reaching higher htt frequency and i discovered that as the K9A2 model my K9N2 hasn't got a very important and useful option in its bios that's to say: "Adjust cpu nb ratio" which can allow the end user to lower the ratio of the internal memory controller of phenoms set by default at 9x for regular models (ex: 9550...) and 10x for Black edition models...This bios option is available on Dka 790 gx/platinum ( I'm about to suicide myself )
So in my case as my 9650 is overclocked at 11,5*230 the nb ratio is by default set at 9*230 which is quite high and if i could lower it for example to 8x or 7x i would be able to rise more than 230 my phenom's htt... this option is still missing in new beta bios release, so i hope it will appear for the future release....

well everything i wrote was based on the guys serial number reading ability. ill live with 2800 mhz. thanks anyway
That's all fine and good, but not always the case. Sure, some batches/runs are better than others, and some weeks of production are just good clockers, but it is hard to tell what ANY chip will do just by looking at the markings on it. Getting 3G on stock vcore would be almost unheard of - unless the chip was made to run at 3G of course. 2800Mhz isn't too bad and exactly what I run on my Brisbane 24/7.
The only real way to know what any chip will do, IMO, is to buy from someone who has abused already tried it
