Moved house and TM only goes back to move date
We moved out temporarily to restore our home in Nov 09- I have had TM working backing up my Mac Pro to an external drive for a year or so. The MP wasn't used for a while work was going on. I was actually working from another machine, a Book. I disconnected the Drive to access work from my Book. I've now brought the MB to the temp home and will use it there, but now I've connected the drive back to it and ran TM, if I enter, it only goes back to the date I switched off and moved the drive! Does this mean I've lost all previous evidence of back up?
Thx

Just for the future then, when I get to the stage where files have been dormant on my machine and I need to make room, would one usually just erase them from the machine, knowing that the exist on back up
NO. First, that means you only have one copy. When your backup drive fails (and they all do, sooner or later), you risk losing it. Plus, Time Machine will, eventually, delete it's copy of anything that's no longer on your system.
should they be copied onto another drive as filed work/files?
Yes. Or "archived" to CDs/DVDs.
The latter would mean the same files exist in 2 places, seems a bit of a waste of space?
Exactly. The essential part of a good backup strategy is to have (at least) two copies of everything important, in (at least) two places. Three is much better, especially if one is off-site (safe deposit box, workplace, relative's house, etc.). That way, you're also protected against fire, flood, theft, direct lightning strike on your power lines, etc.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 and am trying to upgrade to 13 - getting error message that "file archive part" of Adobe 13 is missing. When I try to download installers for older products it only goes back to v7, not v5 what to do next?
TDFields you will want to ensure the 7z and exe file are in the same folder/directory. You can find more details at Find a download link on Adobe.com.

I am trying to locate an email that I deleted and assume should be in the trash. However my trash now only goes back a few days - how can I increase the number of days the trash remains accessible for.

Check Mail Preferences, Accounts tab. Select the account, then the Mailbox Behaviors tab. See if you have it set to Permanently erase deleted messages when: One week old. (or less) -
I have an editable pdf made in Acrobat. Viewing it Adobe Reader Mobile (Android) and I can fill it fine. I want to be able to fill the form but it keeps autosaving. I just want to email the form and then it goes back to an unfilled form. How do i do that?
Currently, Adobe Reader for Android does not provide an option to disable auto-save.
In the Reader home screen (where your files are displayed), you can make a copy of the original PDF document, open the copy (instead of opening the original document), make changes to the copy. Once you email the copy, you can delete it.
For more information, please see Help > How To... > Copy, edit, delete, manage.
Although it is not the most convenient way to accomplish the task, that's the only feasible workaround that is available in Adobe Reader for Android right now. -
Safari web history only goes back to a certain point.
Safari web history only goes back to a certain point.
Hello.
My Safari web history only goes back in time to a certain point. Everything beyond that (quite a substantial history) is at the same date and time.
I need to ascertain the time stamped browsing history on a date - before this.
Any fixes?
Many thanks.Hi.
I have OS X version 10.10.1 and Safari version 8.0.2.
When I look at the Metadata/Safari/History, the 'Date Created' and 'Date Modified', etc., starts from Today (now) and goes back to 26 November 2014 14:13. Any previous web history has this date as well. -
Using time capsule for months but time machine only goes back to yesterday!
Topic says it all.
I'm in a bind and I need something that might have been on my hard drive a month or so ago.
Anyway, I click time machine because that's the whole point of having a backup app, and to my suprise, the bar on the right only goes back to yesterday at 2am.
What the ****?? Is there some way of opening my time capsule bundle package file thing or what.
Thanks
Running leopard, time capsule is 500gb and set to only take my pictures, music and a couple other folders.

Did anything change on your computer just before today? If you look at your Time Capsule's "Data" disk, how many "sparsebundle" files do you see?
If you see more than one (assuming you're only using it to back up one computer), Time Machine may have decided to start a new backup set. in that case you can probably access the old data if you click-and-hold (or control-click) on the Time Machine icon in the Dock and choose "Browse Other Time Machine disks". -
This started a week ago, I turned off my ipod, and it could not be turned back on again. So I held the sleep button and the home button simultaneously for ten seconds, and my iPod responded, the logo appeared. And my iPod worked perfectly for a week, when the same problem appeared last night, I tried to use the tip which I used last week. But a new problem appeared. The logo showed up, and when I tried to type in my password, the logo appear on the screen again, and this just goes back and forth. I can't type in my password. This is driving me crazy, Pleeeeaze, someone please help me!!!!
Have you tried connecting the iPod to your computer and restoring the iPod?

even via time machine the new osx lion has deleted all my latest files in iPhoto and will only revert back to an old 2009 backup?... Help?!
Have you verified that the original files are missing from the Originals/Masters folder? There are time when the library might appear empty due to a damaged database file but still has the files. If you can open the library package via the Finder to see if the files are really missing or just can't be seen by iPhoto there are fixes you can try.
If the files are there make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I have done restore and ipod keeps going back to disabled mode. What do I do next?
Do a manual install as specified here:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
After you download the firmware file as specified in the article, place the iPod in recovery mode and then do the restore/update using the instructions in the article -
Get three quarters of the way through recovery mode and then iphone goes back to "Connect to Itunes screen" can someone help please?
Delete the .ipsw file on the computer.
Put the device in DFU mode.
Restore as new, once the restore completes, then try restoring from backup. -
The screen on my ipod nano, 2nd generation, turns black. It stills plays music. I've tried resetting the ipod to clear the black and the screen goes back to it's original state. But after a few minutes the screen turns black again, while the music is still playing. What can I do about this?
That's just the iPod's backlight timer going off, signaling the iPod's backlight to turn off to conserve battery power.
