Hi! I update my MB bcause i bought ddr3 stick 4gb and it only runs at 1066 (said the old bios) but with the new one it wont fix my problem (my MB says in the specs it can takes up to 1333). The new bios also lags or it is slow when i move with the keyboard from one field to another and selection etc...After this i read one review about dont update the bios because it causes probs...sadly i read this after having this problems...this review says it is not easy to downgrade the bios version bcause the me firmware is also updated. But he told the could do it with help in foruns. So i am here, i need help to downagrde my MB. any sugestions? i need to downgrade the bios version (i have the files of the old version) and the firmware version.

Should I update BIOS and hardware firmware when installing XP?

I will soon be receiving a ThinkPad R61 and I plan to downgrade the OS to Windows XP by following this guide to the letter. However, one part of the guide is unclear to me.
It states that updating the BIOS and hardware firmware are optional. How do I decide whether I should do this? What are the consequences of not doing it? How badly can I damage my computer by doing it incorrectly -- can I destroy it?

As it says in the guide many times.
"THE BIOS AND THE HARD DRIVE FIRMWARE UPDATE ARE
NOT NECESSARY. IF YOU ARE WARY OF BIOS UPDATES, THEN I SUGGEST YOU SKIP
THOSE TWO UPDATES AND CARRY ON WITH THE GUIDE."
The BIOS updates sometimes fix errors that may or may not affect you. You would have to read the txt file associated with it to determine if you want to do it or not. Some folks have to have the latest and greatest and some people have issues that are fixed in the BIOS update.
A BIOS update gone wrong will render your Thinkpad completely useless.
I think that if it is not broken, don't fix it.
Be sure to make the recovery disc set before doing anything else.

i've just registered here but i've had my toshiba laptop for year and half now ,
it's L650-11F PSK1JE
my problem is the bios , i re-install windows every few months to keep the laptop fresh and fast and i download all new updates and drivers from Toshiba drivers page
well i did 2 updates to bios from 2.00 to 2.20 and then to 2.40
but since first update it seems to be messing my laptop
DVDWR stopped burning DVDs
Echo mode on battery don't setup says bios unsupported
Graphics card fails so much in games now in FPS and very slow rendering in the games !!
it's Radeon 5650 !
not the best card right now but it's very good 1 still ( Playing Aion btw ) .
i want to flash the Bios i wanna reset it to factury default or the bios comes with the laptop and i won't ever update it again ! it mess the laptop not improve it !
i read tutorials how to downgrade bios but i'd rather ask here for more pro help

Many people think the same but especially fast has mostly nothing to do with BIOS update. If everything works well why to change anything and risk something.
My notebook is 3 years old and I use it still with original BIOS. No problems at al. Anyway, I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and explain the situation. Be clear and tell them that you are not happy now and you want to have old BIOS version again. They have access to BIS database and can obtain older version for you.

How to downgrade BIOS on Tecra S11 - annoying CPU

I have a BIOS which is "solve" the High pitched noise problem about the i5 CPU.
But I have the latest BIOS and since then I cannot downgrade to the older BIOS that "solves" the problem.
*My question is how to downgrade BIOS?*
Because I will not send my Toshiba to RMA any more because they will not repair it!!!
My Tecra S11 went to RMA 2 and 2 different Toshiba authorized service partner for about 1 month. None of them repaired my laptop! Most annoying thing is that hungarian services are absolute useless!! I have a 2 year old issue with the CPU high pitched noise.
They did not replaced the faulty CPU, they replaced the motherboard!!! for no reason. OMG!
Be very careful when you buy Toshiba laptop in Hungary, and its not the Toshiba's fault but the authorized service partners!!
Please Toshiba do something!

I assume youve got a Tecra S11 PTSE3E
The BIOS for Tecra S11 is compatible with Tecra M11 and Tecra A11
On the Toshiba USA driver page you can find all BIOS versions
The BIOS for Tecra A11-S3541 PTSE3U series should be compatible with Tecra S11 PTSE3E series.

Choose Tecra A11-S3541 and download the BIOS version you want to install.
Unzip the package and check the readme.txt
There you can find info how to flash the BIOS using tradition BIOS version.
I think the win-based BIOS version would not function because youve got already the newest BIOS version installed.
But in my opinion you should not downgrade the BIOS because it looks like many fixes has been added to the new version

As your notebook is a business class machine, security is more stringent - the password is stored in non-volatile memory and there are no 'backdoor' passwords. Your best option would be to contact HP regarding this.

Recommendation before updating bios:
- detach all devices from you system
- undock your system, if docked
- start from a cold boot. (shutting down the system completely, wait 15 min, start up again)
- if possible, upgrade with a cd-rom drive

How old is your Mac computer? If it is 2+ year old or older you need a new battery. Right there in what you posted is says "Service Battery". That means Change the battery.

I just bought a HP Envy 700 430 QE. I can't even get into my BIOS to change the order of boot and set up new hard drives. I have an OCZ 240 \GB PCI SSD and two Samsung SSDs. On my old Gateway, I could press Del to get into Bios and then F12 to select the hard drive I wanted. How do I get into the BIOS on this HP and can I set it u p like I had my old Gateway where I could pick anyone of four drives to boot up? rayboyusmc

Use the ESC after power on to bring up the Startup menu then F10 as recommended by Mumbodog. ----------------------------- BTW ---- Unplug the original boot drive until after the other OS is installed.

Satellite P100-324: How to downgrade BIOS to version 2.40

I have the Toshiba Satellite P100-324 with BIOS version 3.30. I need to downgrade BIOS to version 2.40 because it help with stuttering problem when playing games on Windows Vista. But the problem is the version 2.40 is unavailable at Toshiba Europe website (I'm from Russia). I have found this version (one mate gave it to me), but it is for P105 models (US version).
The question is - can I use US version of BIOS 2.40 for my european P100? Is it compatible?

You dont need to update the BIOS to another version to play the different games on the Vista OS.
The games couldnt run properly due to the Vista OS.
Several weeks ago Microsoft has published and hotfix which solves some problems with the Multi GPU support on Vista. It was useful for users which use the gamer computer with 2 GPUs

I have the above unit (I love it!!) with BIOS version 14CN51WW BIOS running UBUNTU9.04 (did not like the SUSE linux supplied. I hate the loud bleep when you remove the power adapter and also have had a few problems with LINUX hanging with the suspend mode - so I thought I might try to update the BIOS to the latest Version: 14CN67WW
However, how do you do this other than in Windows?
I tried to install Windows XP and 2000 onto a spare SATA disk that I installed into the IdeaPad - but halfway through the installation I get a stop error message saying computer is not ACPI compliant
The only other way I have is a Windows XP routine that loads XP into memory and allows a virtual disk - where I could install the BIOS files - but will this work if I flash from here - don't want to screw up the system board
Older IBM's had an executable file that ran from a DOS session and flashed the BIOS
Anyone got any advice on how to approach this - before I actually do it

You don't need to update the BIOS, you need to turn the camera on.
I believe from looking in the manual that you can do this by pressing the 'O-key', and then selecting the webcam there.

Hmm? Wow. That's odd that something IS indeed different enough that those BIOS doesn't work on your card but does on mine. There must have been some revisions made on the physical board or something in the firmware hardware or something. ??
How old is your card? I just got mine in the last 3 weeks and though stock can sit around at suppliers for weeks, experience dictates that because stock is a 'revolving door', often the actual age of a component is somewhat relevant to when it is purchased.
I simply wouldn't try the Lightning BIOS for many reasons. Good advice and good to know either way.
I'm not willing to risk an expensive card but I've read of others who have flashed an HIS and Powercolor to an ASUS BIOS. Wonder if things like that are possible and what are the potential implications? I do have an old(er) 7970 than may be a good experimental device.

I want to try to downgrade to an older firmware to make my Ipod Nano 3rd generation work. It shuts of all the time and I have to restart it when it is in the Bose soundock portable. Bose techs said it is a problem with the software on the Ipod Nano, Touch, and Iphone they said Apple is aware and is working on a fix time frame two to three months. I have a $400 paperweight the way it is and would like to try something to fix without waiting. I am new to the Mac and do not know how to downgrade. After waiting for a hour for the Mac techs to answer I gave up.. (my last mac, with all the trouble with it freezing)
