  • How do i enable sata?

    Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz
    MSI X48c Platinum
    2x 512MB corsair ddr2 800MHz
    Sapphire 100265L Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready
    Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
    Pwrup 800 watt PSU
When I am trying to install windows, it says that it cannot detect a drive. I have the sata cable plugged in tight as well as the cable from the PSU. I looked through the BIOS and there is no specific setting that lets me turn on sata, unless it is named something else or a different setting needs to be turned on that enables sata.
Any help on getting my hard drive recognized?

checked out your case, the small red and green led lights on the front of your case indicate power & hard drive access.
the green light indicates power and the red one indicates harddrive activity.
under normal conditions the harddrive light should come on when you first power up your computer,
and then each time the harddrive is being accessed (either read or write) after that.
If the red led flashes when you first turn on your computer, that would indicate that the harddrive is at least
getting power when you turn on your system. if that is true,
then we just have to get the bios and/or windows to recognize it.  You might try plugging the sata cable into one of the other
sata ports on your mobo, and try a different sata cable, on the chance you do have a bad sata socket or faulty cable.

  • Borked SATA channels - help!?

I've started having trouble with HDD bays 3 and 4 in my early-08 Pro (3GHz, 8800GT, 4GB RAM).
I first noticed it a few weeks ago - my TimeMachine partition was on a HDD in bay 4, and the backup occasionally failed.
Then the computer started not rebooting (gray screen before the Apple first appears).
Then it started not booting at all.
The stage it fails on booting is very early - before even being able to select which partition to boot from (or even from DVD): gray screen, blank, before the Apple logo or spinner.
So... I tried shuffling the HDDs around thinking one was failing. It doesn't matter which HDD I put in, what DOES matter is that bays 3 and 4 must be empty. If either is occupied, it won't boot.
It also seems to vary slightly with heat: if the machine is cold, it will sometimes let me boot with bays 3 or 4 occupied.
I've tried resetting PRAM, and disconnecting all cables etc. etc. This seems to have no effect.
I also tried plugging a drive into one of the spare SATA lines on the board (a pain to get power to it, but that's another matter). It worked fine.
Since SATA channels seem to work in pairs, this makes me think that this is a chipset problem. I've checked temperatures and they are normal (30°C processors, 36°C northbridge, 45°-50°C RAM).
I wonder whether this might be a firmware issue (IIRC it was updated shortly before the problems appeared). I'm currently on Boot ROM Version MP31.006C.B05 and SMC Version 1.25f4.
Otherwise (sigh) will I have to take this to my 5-week-wait local Apple dealer?

it was the mobo - it was replaced by Apple Service and all is now fine

  • A85XA-G65 can't find option to enable dual channel memory mode

    Hi,
    My system is new build.
    Specs:
    MSI A85XA-G65
AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity
    Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Corsair Force GT 120GB (system drive)
    PSU OCZ ZT 550W
    Win 7 64-bit
Problem: UEFI showing 8Gb memory but only 4Gb physical memory showing when SiSandra used and in Windows.
I can't find the option to enable dual channel memory mode. Slots populated are DIMM1 and DIMM3. When DIMM 2 and 4 are populated it will not boot (no dsiplay). I can easily switch between DIMM 1 and 3 in control centre for UEFI but I am unable to switch to dual channel mode no matter what i try.
    Any ideas?

For dual channel to work DIMM 2 & 4 must be populated. It won't work with 1 & 3.  Try with one stick and set timings and speed according to the sticks' specifiactions in the oc section of your bios then retry with dimm 2 & 4. If no help try slower timings like 10-10-10-28-2T

  • MOVED: Problem with SATA DVD/RW

This topic has been moved to AMD64 nVidia Based board.
    Problem with SATA DVD/RW

I use the Plextor PX-712SA's with no issues. However...I do not believe the SATA versions require jumpers. Try plugging them in on SATA port 1 or 2, making sure those are enabled in BIOS of course. Make sure all connections are secure. There have been some issues with these particular drives not operating properly, but it has not been an issue with seasoned system builders, so the problems may be with the builder himself. Usually, Plextors are so good, they'll almost burn a paper plate! Try a different medium, maybe another brand of blank CD or DVD.
You may also want to check Device Manager in Windows, to see if it is listed "This device is working properly"!

  • Enabling alpha channel for PNG file

I want to include a logo with a transparent background in an iMovie video, but when I import a PNG file with a transparent background, the background turns black. I think this is because the PNG needs to have alpha channel enabled.
When I attempt to save the file as a new version, the "alpha channel" option is greyed out. How can I save the file with the alpha channel enabled?

    Hi,
You might want to visit this thread for more info on iMovie's handling of transparency:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13123097
It sounds like iMovie converts the PNG to a JPG internally for some cases (fit, crop, Ken Burns effect).

  • How to enable SATA NCQ/AHCI in MacBook (Late 2007)

I am planning to upgrade the HDD to a bigger SATA-2 model.
I would like to ask does *MacBook (late 2007)* with *Mac OS X 10.5.2* natively support NCQ / AHCI ?
Do I have to enter the BIOS to *enable the AHCI* function of the HDD?

Wrong, EFI is NOT BIOS. They are two separate things. They do the same job, but EFI does it more efficiently due to the fact that it is a lot newer. You do not require BIOS to run EFI, or the other way around.
This sounds more like a semantic discussion rather than the original poster's query whether or not something needed to be done in order to access a larger drive. Perhaps he used the term "BIOS", but we all know there have been means of updating the firmware on MacBooks, even if it isn't a traditional BIOS reflash.

  • Changing Duration, Start/Finish, %comp all result in MS-Project warning that task(s) [normally the last task in the project plan] is being moved to start Sat Jan1, 84...

Running MS-Project 2007 12.0.4518.1014 MSO (12.0.6607.1000) non-server edition.  The Project was created on July 17, 12.  It has gone through 162 revisions w/o presenting this warning.  The date range is 7/17/12 thru 5/3/13.  The task
I'm changing (#16) shows a Start of 8/17/12 and Finish of 1/14/13; it has no Predecessors or Successors.  I'm changing the %comp to 100% and I get the warning message "You moved task 264 of 'project name' to start Sat Jan 1, '84. This is before
the project start date (Tue Jul 17, '12)".  I have tried changing other tasks with the same resulting warning message.  I have tried breaking the Predecessor link to the last task only to be told of another task being moved to Jan 1, '84.
If I accept the move, 51 of the 264 rows (both completed and future tasks) are moved to start on 1/1/84 with everyone being flagged as a Milestone--the top summary task [Outline Seq 1] Start and Finish change from 7/17/12-5/3/13 to 8/17/12-2/19/13.
Any thoughts as to what is happening behind the scenes to cause this warning and subsequent corruption of the plan?

I will need to check w/FLS to determine--they control patching and releases.  As for your other questions...fixed start, every task is ASAP constrained by task sequencing only.  I've never ask MS-Project to Resource, Load Level.  Calculations
are Automatic.  There are three tasks that have a SF relationship to a specific event such that their start is backward scheduled from when the dependent task starts depending upon the task sequences that drive it.  I have used this approach on many
other projects and have never run into this issue.
I agree that it sounds like a file corruption--just looking to nail down which event might have caused the corruption so that I can restore to a prior version and rebuild [obviously HOPING to eliminate the sequence that caused the file to be corrupted in
    the first place].

  • Enable sata or pata ide?

Hoping someone can refresh my memory.  In bios setup, under integrated peripherals, I have VT8237 PATA IDE controller enabled and SATA IDE disabled.  Is this correct?  I have a SATA hard drive.

...PATA IDE always needs to be enabled, that's also for your optical drives on IDE1 or IDE2 or both...that particular SATA setting only needs to be enabled if you are using the VIA controller...

  • Equium P200D how to enable SATA mode to AHCI so i can install OSx86

Hi im trying to install OSx86 on my new Equium P200D-139 laptop that i bought this week.
I need to set SATA mode to AHCI. All other pc's i have used i have been able to do this in the bios but with this laptop the bios is so cut down the option isnt there.
Does anyone know how to enable AHCI mode so i can get OSx86 to boot.
    Thanks
    Mark

If I'm not mistaken, you get the famous "Still waiting for root device" message, right?
Well, I really do not have many experience in Mac operating systems, but this appears because of SATA drives and yes, you are right, AHCI mode works for most notebooks or desktop PCs.
I think there is no way to enable this option. But maybe you can find help looking for some instructions on osx86project in google.

  • SATA channels/controllers

I'm using an SATA drive on a k8t neo with the via sata controller. I've seen that performance between the via and promise chipsets is similar depending on what tests/applications you use. I'd like to try the promise chipset but don't want my os (winxp installed on the sata drive) to mess  up. I know with IDE channels, changing an HD to a different channel would screw things up, is it the same with sata?
    Thanks

Sorry, I have to throw my 2 cents in here.  I've been using the Promise since I built my machine in mid-December with no problems.  I think it's worth you giving it a try.  If it doesn't work, you can always go back to Via.  If you want to see my settings, do a search for my name and SATA and you'll probably find it.

  • Howto enable deprecated warnings?

    Hi!
How can i enable deprecated warnings during the build process within workshop?
The deprecated warnings should also be shown in PageFlows (*.jpf) and Controls (*.jcs). Is this possible?
    Best Regards,
    Ralf Schumacher
Message was edited by [email protected] at Jul 26, 2004 4:34 AM

You can right click on the project and export the ant
build.xml. You can modify the build.xml to add a flag
for the javac or java according to the jdk you use
and also make sure to set the project to use the
exported ant build.xml file.I already did this. But the exported ant file is not very useful. The exported ant file contains only 2 targets: build and clean. BEA uses its own non documented "fat" build task to build and compile all files (all means all classes, controls, pageflows and jsp). This makes build with the bea workshop so slow ... because on every build all is recompiled, regardless if changed or not ...
Imho with javac (1.4) the default is to show deprecated warnings, a flag exists to suppress these warnings. What is BEA doing in there build task ... ???
So, how do i get the deprecated warnings within bea workshop???
    Best Regard,
    Ralf Schumacher

  • Howto enable spdif output through the combo ja

I have an Audigy model #sb0090
I am running Vista Home Premium
I am connecting this computer to my Dolby 5. receiver.
Creative Vista drivers are installed and reporting no errors.
On the back of the Audigy card there is a digital output jack labeled: "digital out or 3"
I purchased the Digital IO Module from:
    http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=6&product=780
When I plug it in, I don't get audio from either the coax or the optical outputs. I have enabled spdif output in the OS. I also have a daughter board model# ct4660 (from an older sound blaster li've) that I can connect to the audigy via a ribbon cable. The ct4660 also has a coax output. When I use this, the Dolby Digital output is sent to the receiver and everything works. The problem is, I don't have room in the case for the ct4660 which takes up an extra pci slot. How do I tell the card to send digital out to the "digital out or 3" output on the Audigy?
    Thanks for the help...

I went out and purchased a new Audigy SE. Using the IO module, I now am able to get Dolby Digital sound from digital sources such as DVDs and ATSC television. I do not get any other sound such as Windows sounds and music. In the Audigy speaker properties on Vista, the "Digital Output Only" checkbox is not checked. How do I get all sound to output via the spdif output?
