Moved iMac to different room; can't send e-mail!
I moved iMac to a different room and am picking up a different wireless signal with airport card. my internet connection is strong, i can receive e-mail messages with both Mail and Thunderbird, but i can't send them! it says there is an error and i should check the address. what should i do?
thanks,
R
You're picking up a different wireless signal? Hmm...
Hard to say for sure without more details about your network and your ISP. But it doesn't sound like an email reader problem. It sounds more like a network issue since you seem to be saying you changed networks.
If it's not your signal, then it's somebody else's internet connection, and that might be with a different ISP (internet service provider). Without the proper settings for sending email with that ISP, your email won't go through. This is to deter unprivileged people from abusing the email servers to send spam, and to prevent the privileged user of the internet connection from being blamed for someone else's actions.
If this is the case, simply select the other wireless signal with your own internet connection and your email should work fine again. Not to mention, you won't be disrespecting your neighbor and their ISP anymore.
If you need to boost the signal of your own wireless network, you can check the settings of your wireless router and see if you can boost the power output or reduce the speed. Most of the time reducing the speed isn't noticeable since wireless routers are potentially 6 to 20 times faster than broadband internet connections. You might be broadcasting at a higher rate than is possible for you to use, and hence reducing your range.

I have two iMacs in different rooms and Safari started crashing immediately after opening on both machines. latest version is installed.Any ideas?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -

I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'what settings are you using in the accounts part of mail preferences', but I'll give you as much information as I can in the hopes that some of it is responsive.
In "preferences" I select "accounts" and there are 3 listed:
'personal gmail' (IMAP)
'business gmail' (IMAP)
'Yahoo' (POP)
For each of the above, the "Account Information" tab gives:
description: [username]
email address: [correctly reflects my address]
full name: [my name]
Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
user name: [my username]
password: [*** - I've re-entered to ensure it is my true password]
outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com:username
Is it all in the same format on the iphone?
This is the same information for the 2 gmail accounts, with the exception of the usernames differing. If I click "server settings" at the bottom, it reflects the outgoing mail server "smtp.gmail.com" server port 25, my correct user name and password.
Again, different names for the different accounts, right? And this is the same port etc. as you put into the iphone
All of the above information matches what I input into my iPhone, and it has worked fine since day 1, so I don't understand the malfunction.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Console. Make sure console.log and system.log are open (or see the File menu).
Try to send an email.
Look for new lines in the log files (it should scroll down automatically so the newest lines are at the end of the log at the bottom of the window). What do you see? (Erase or substitute for any personal info before posting.)
Do you use any firewall software or have you used third-party software or Terminal to configure the builtin firewall?

Can only send e-mail from home wi-fi
I have three e-mail addresses that I use on the iPhone however for one of them I can only send e-mail when I am at home using my wi-fi. If I am anywhere else using wi-fi or 3G I get a sender address was invalid message.
Any suggestions? Many ISPs only allow access to their smtp servers (the server that sends mail, which is different that the one for receiving mail) over their own network. Others require different settings when connecting from outside (which you're doing when you're on 3G/EDGE). Another option is to use AT&T's outgoing mail server to send. You can enable that in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > tap account > Outgoing Mail Server/SMTP > set AT&T SMTP server to ON. That way, the AT&T server will be used away from home (as long as you're connected to 3G/EDGE/GPRS - if you're connected to another Wi-Fi network it won't work) and your ISPs server will be used at home.

I have quickbooks software. I am traveling. I tried to send an invoice out, using the mac email (version 5.3) I can't send the mail out. I get a pop up asking for my password, I put the password in and it does not accept it. This is the 1st time I've had this problem.

Can not send be-mail os10.9.4 server offline !!
can not send be-mail os10.9.4 server offline !!
Hey there mikeneiris,
It sounds like you are not able to send any emails because the account is showing as offline. I recommend these steps from the following article to help you get that going again:
Mail (Mavericks): If a mailbox is offline
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14925?viewlocale=en_US
To take an account online, click the lightning bolt icon. Or choose Mailbox > Online Status > Take [account name] Online, or Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online.
If you can’t take an account online, make sure you’re connected to the Internet. If a warning icon appears after the account name, click it for more information.
Use Connection Doctor
Some mailbox names can appear dimmed if you don’t have permission to access them, such as “public” mailboxes on a server, or if the mail server is unavailable.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,

RoeeSee OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages for details. on troubleshooting mail.
Your SMTP server settings are incorrect. Mail has two connections, a receive path from your mail server to your mail client, and a send path from your mail client to the mail server. The send path uses SMTP to communicate with the server.
Apple Mail.app has separate settings for the receive and send paths; each has its own server, username, password, port and SSL settings. Your send path settings are likely incorrect.
To determine the proper settings, check with Yahoo for the SMTP server settings for your account (usually a web search, but I don't know the details of how Yahoo sets up their accounts by default nor whether that varies by account), and verify that your settings match — the send-path settings are available via the accounts settings; Mail > Preferences > Accounts > select the account > Account Information > and switch the Select SMTP Server setting to Edit SMTP Server List... > select your Yahoo SMTP server, and set the account details per Yahoo requirements. -

Can't send e-mail using Mail. Entourage works fine with same settings.
I can't send e-mail using Mail. Using exactly the same settings on Entourage everything works fine.
Until earlier today (for two days only) I couldn't send either. I was advised to run Keychain Access First Aid which spotted "Item “pop3.freezone.co.uk” is a duplicate; this item's port attribute is not set" and then repaired it (Freezone is the name of my ISP). Now I can send Mail but not receive.
Even stranger is that until today I could receive Mail on one of my two accounts, while only Mail from one person got through on the other. Now no mail is arriving.
I tried swapping the plist file for an older version from a backup of my system. That didn't work either.
I'm tearing my hair out! Any suggestions? No.
I'am sendig email from domain A using SMTP belonging to domain A.
The emails that's addressis is the same as senders (@grader.ee) are going out. But all others don't.
If there is wrong outgoing SMTP server even those emails can't send.
