Moved IPhoto library, but Data did not transfer

So I recently moved my I Photo Library to my external. I do not have time machine so I did this manually (if you can call it Manual). 1st off, my data (photos) didn't transfer with it, and when I moved the library back to my computer it was detached from the data. How do I reconnect the two, and THEN properly move it back to my external.

Exactly how did you do this?
Time Machine has nothing and could not possibly be involved with moving your iPhoto library to an external drive
The correct way to move the iPhoto library to an external drive is to simply drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive and then depress the option key and launch iPhoto and use the select library option to point to it - fully test it in the new location and then delete the old library on the internal drive (testing one more time prior to emptying the trash)
iPhoto is a database program and if you corrupt its database you will need to load your current backup or start over and reimport the photos - to start over be sure that the option to create events from items imported from the finder is unchecked and open the originals folder in the unusable library and drag each folder of photos in it onto the iPhoto icon in the dock (or the iPhoto window) - this will recreate your events with the original photos

I recently changed my Apple ID but it did not transfer over to my iCloud account. How do I change my iCloud ID? The password for the new Apple ID does not work since the iCloud default user name is imbedded in the login box. The login popup for iCloud will not go away so I cannot get into my iPad since it pops up as soon as I turn the device on and re-occurs every few seconds.

You have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPad on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPad when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

I sent photos out of my IPhoto library, but they do not appear in my "Sent" folder on my GMail although that mail account was in the "From" field?

If you're using iPhoto as your email client a sent version is not created.  You need to BCC yourself in order to get a copy.
The better solution is to use Mail as your email client in conjunction with Gmail.  This will give you a sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if so desired, photo templates to use via Mail's stationary feature.

  • When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop.. won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not... need to fix this

When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop... won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not

If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow.  However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • I followed the instructions for "Moving Thunderbird Data to a New Computer," but the calendar data did not transfer & the calendar program is not functioning.

I manually moved my profile from Thunderbird in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to Windows 8.1. I followed instructions and everything moved as expected except the Calendar. Not only did the Calendar data not transfer, the Calendar itself is not functioning, e.g. no dates & days of week, etc., all menus relating to Calendar are "greyed-out," etc. I would appreciate any help. TIA KellyJMorris

The Calendar (a.k.a. Lightning) contains binary components, which are OS dependent. So you do need to remove the Lightning add-on in your Add-on manager and install the Windows version of Lightning.

  • When I open up "originals" in my iPhoto library, the dates are not there or are incorrect.  I see date created and date modified, not the original date the picture was taken.  How can I find the accurate original dates?

I have had a lot of issues with my iPhoto program. After many trips to the Genius Bar and numerous hours with phone techs, I am now rebuilding my library, starting with a backup of it from before the corruption. When I "get info" of a picture, I notice the original date the picture was taken (most important for me), is not there or is wrong.  When I check package contents of my iPhoto library, the originals show up, but most (not all) of the dates are wrong.  Can anyone tell me how or where I might find the original dates?

I did post to the iPhoto forum and am hoping for an answer soon. I don't want to continue rebuilding my iphoto library if I can do it using originals. My library has 45,000 pictures...a huge job!

  • Moved iPhoto Library but instead it copied?

On the same network, I've a MBA, an iMac, and a backup harddrive dedicated to just photos. The iMac's iPhoto Library is stored on the backup harddrive. I wanted to do the same with the MBA's iPhoto Library. Read Help on how to move; closed iPhoto; opened a finder window>Pictures and dragged and dropped the MBA's iPhoto Library to the backup harddrive. Rather than moving it, however, it copied the Library. There is still an iPhoto library in Pictures and another on the harddrive. When I look to switch Library's both Libraries appear. What did I do wrong? Should I try to drag/drop the MBA version into trash? Don't want confusion of 2 libraries.
    Thanks, Armando

if iPhoto Library is not stored on MBA, then am I correct that TM on the MBA, which backs up to a separate RAID harddrives, is not backing up iPhoto?
Time Machine will back up both your Mac and the attached hard drive.....IF.....you have removed the attached hard drive from the list of items that are Excluded from backups in Time Machine Preferenes > Options.
In other words, a drive that is connected to a Mac via USB or FireWire will not be backed up since it will be Excluded from backups by default.  You have to remove it from the list of Excluded items if you want it to be backed up.
When you do this, Time Machine will back up both your Mac and the attached hard drive on the next pass.

  • Moved iPhoto Library but can't open it

I copied my iPhoto Library from my main hard drive to an external Lacie 250 GB hard drive. Then I renamed the original iPhoto library so iPhoto couldnt find it when it opened.
When I opened iPhoto, I got the following message, as expected:
"Your iPhoto Library was not found. Do you want to find your iPhoto Library?
iPhoto can’t continue without a Photo Library. Make sure the disk containing your Photo Library is connected."
I then clicked on the 'Find Library' button. I then found the new iPhoto Library folder on the external hard drive and hit the 'Open' button, but nothing happens. The 'Open' button actually just sort of throbs (turns dark and pale in turn).
Is there something else I need to do to point iPhoto at this new library?
    Thanks.

FYI: Next time copy over the entire iPhoto Library folder as an entity. Don't open it or copy it in pieces. That will ensure that you don't corrupt your database in the move.
I'm glad you were able to fix it.
    Regards.

If you purchased it on your computer's iTunes then have did you select it to sync to your iPad (via the iPad's Books tab on your computer's iTunes) ?. On your iPad you can also turn Settings > Store > Books 'on' so that iBooks purchases made on your computer or other iOS device are automatically downloaded to it. You can also re-download the book for free directly on your iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Photos in trash can not be viewed.  I have rebuilt the library but that did not help.

I need to retrieve a photo that went into Aperture trash, but no images appear in trash, though it says it has 13 versions filed there.  I rebuilt the library as per trouble shooting instructions, but still no go.  The rest of Apperture seems to be working fine.  Any suggestions?

Have you any filters set? Check the search fields. They should be showing "Show all" or "All items".
If you are seeing "Unrated or better", rejected images will not be shown.

ITunes worked fine on my Windows 7 machine.  Had to rebuild the machine but all the data remains.  Downloaded a new version of iTunes and cannot figure out how to load all of my music currently on my hard drive.  Tried moving "iTunes Library" file.  Did not work.  Never had trouble like this before.

Many thanks for your post. I've been trying for days to get this sorted and was getting well fed up with I-Tunes. Really thought i'd never get it working again. Tried un-installing it, loading older versions and they still wouldn't work.
Came across your suggestion by chance and top man - it worked..!!!!
How you even knew what to do is beyond me - but thanks so much. I really was pulling my hair out.
You need to put your post over the Web as there seem to be loads of people having the same trouble.
    Thanks again.

  • Hi. I opened iPhoto and, suddenly, it tells me " WHAT IPHOTO LIBRARY DO I WANT TO USE?" but i had a iPhoto library. When i search on my Pictures, i have the file IPHOTO LIBRARY but it appears on a dim letters and i can not open it.

Hi. I need some help on the following problem. I opened iPhoto and, suddenly, it tells me " WHAT IPHOTO LIBRARY DO I WANT TO USE?" but i had a iPhoto library. When i search on my Pictures, i have the file IPHOTO LIBRARY but is was not the icon on it i previously remembered and it appears on a dim letters and it can not be opened ... How can i recover it??

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards

  • Error -36 when moving iphoto library to ehd

I want to copy my iphoto library to my eHD to free up space on my laptop. but it stops part the way through and gives an error.
Iphoto library first aid did not cure the problem. or using iphoto library manager.
I have managed to extract the photos using ILM. but i also want to move over
all the photo details as well.Any ideas? Iphoto seems to work fine on my macbook pro 3,1
    with no problems or errors.

I found a fast soution 45 Gb Library copied in ~30 min. over USB 2.0 - first I rebuilt the library with iPhoto Library Manager and it still wouldn't drag and drop, took forever and errored out.
I did a semi-manual copy, by opening the iPhoto Library - "Show package contents" (in right click menu)  then copying the contents to a new iPhoto libaray "Package"
Instead of copying all at once copy the small files/folders in one batch, wati to complete, then copy the larger files folders.  You can copy the package contents one folder at a time or a few at a time. I found that copying the Library files in one batch, then copying the Masters, Previews, & Thumbnails in a second batch seemed to work well without choking up.
    Here's the steps
Connect your hard drive or Mac in Target disk mode
navigate to the folder containing the iPhoto Library you wish to copy
    'Right click'Show Package Contents
You'll see apx 19 files - select all but exclude 3 folders: Masters, Previews, &Thumbnails you'll come back for theses later
Copy these files to an empty folder on your destination drive/Mac (Later you'll use iPhoto to make a new libary "Package" then you'll put these files inside it) The copy should take  a few minutes, high volume + tiny files
When the first copy is finished, go back and copy the remaining 3 folders Masters, Previews, & Thumbnails.  This is the opposite as previous step, lower volume + larger files.  Copy speeds should be normal ie 30 min. for 45 Gb over USB 2.0.
Once all these files and folders are copied you need to put them into an empty iPhoto Library container.  An easy way to do this is
Launch iPhoto holding the Option key
Choose 'New Library' (choose an apprpriate name)
    Quit iPhoto
in Finder go to the new Library you just created (User/Pictures/) - be sure its the one you just made
Right Click (Control + Click) the iPhoto Libraray
Choose - Show Package Contents (now you're looking at the contents that makup an iPhoto library)
Select all these files and folders and delete them to the trashOpen the folder that has your freshly copied files and put them in this empty iPhoto Library package.
Close finder windows (disconnect your hard drive or Mac)
Launch iPhoto (you can hold the Option Key while launching iPhoto to choose the correct Library if you have more than one).
Viola. You should have a functional copy from your old Mac/External hard drive.
    REMEMBER!
The easiest way to mess up your iPhoto Library is to move things around inside the "Package contents" of your iPhoto Library.  Its hidden in there for a reason, so don't go mucking about under the hood.  Best practice is to touch nothing inside the "Show Package Contetns" of your iPhoto library.    As described above, we're merely just speeding up a file transfer and copying files so they mirror their source in a new destination.  Good luck.
