Moved iTunes to new Mac shows cloud

I moved my iTunes library to my new Mac and for some reason every song has a cloud symbol. Before this change, the cloud symbol showed on myiPad but not my previous Mac. Thanks for any help.

Hello, Zimmer1956.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like iTunes may not be directed to where your music library is located.  Here are the steps that will walk you through directing iTunes to the imported iTunes library.

  • Moved to a new Mac - iTunes Media horro

    Hi,
this drives me crazy: I moved to a new mac and can not get my iTunes to work.
iTunes just does not find my media files.
My old setup on a PowerMacG4 was:
folder iTunes with libraries in my home folder, but the music was on another volume
So inside the "iTunes Music Library.xml" (thats how it is named in the old iTunes) there is the entry
    <key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/blabla/Musik/</string>
pointing to the folder on the volume where my media files are.
Every media file has an entry in the xml, where the key "Location" points to the exact folder the file is located, e.g.
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/blabla/Musik/Alexandra/Die%2 0Legende%20einer%20Sa%CC%88ngerin/Mein%20Freund,%20der%20Baum.MP3</string>
I used "Migration Assistant" to move data from old disks to the new mac. Having connected the old volume blabla new iTunes found the files.
Having renamed the volume blabla iTunes still found the files and replaced all Location references. Magic?
So i copied all the media to my new mac to a new location and told iTunes (prefernece location of iTunes media) where my media files are.
Does not work. It still believes the file are on volume blabla. It never looks into te files copied to the new location!
Hmmm, so i looked inside the "iTunes Library.xml": The "Music Folder" is set correctly, but the files location points to the old volume.
Doing a replace for all locations in the xml doesn't work either, probably the itl-file holds the same information?
If i start iTunes again, it ovewrites all my changes made to the xml.
Not giving up yet, because I have read that if the itl is invalid, it gets rebuild from the xml i zap the itl and start itunes again. -> no more media files in the library.
I do not understand where iTunes stores its information, why there are two Library files (itl and xml) and which one is leading.
Please: how can i get itunes to recognize my media files.
This is the worst interface I've ever seen. I only want to move my media files and iTunes just does not let me do it :-(

The iTunes Library.itl file holds the key information. The .xml file is for third party support. If you have access to a working version of the library on the old machine then you can use the process in this thread to make your split library portable. Since the media has already been copied over you would then just need to copy the library files again while putting everything into the correct layout.
If that isn't possible it may be that you can trigger iTunes into fixing your broken links. Having set the media folder to the correct path in preferences, highlight a single broken tracks and attempt to Get Info. When iTunes complains the tracks is missing use the option to locate the track. iTunes should offer to attempt to fix other broken links based on the path to this one.

  • ITunes on new Mac Mini does not show shared libraries on network or songs on NAS drive

iTunes on new Mac Mini does not show shared libraries on network or songs on NAS drive
The latest version of iTunes on a 3-month old Mac Mini (8 gig RAM, OS 10.10.2) does not see any of the shared iTunes libraries on a  MacBookPro (MBP) (OS 10.9.5) and a 14-month old Mac Mini (OS 10.9.5). And a network shared drive/media server does not appear as well. I have a Gigabite Ethernet G4 and on it, the MPB and the "old" mini I can see the various shared music libraries and NAS, but not on the new Mini.
The little house with a music note inside it that I see on the upper left corner of the iTunes 12.1 window on my MBP does not appear on iTunes 12.1 on the new Mac Mini. I have gone through all the iTunes preferences and can not find where I can turn on this feature. The new Mac Mini is on the local network and I can reach the internet successfully.
I have been using iTunes since its beginning (still have a PowerTower Pro with a working copy of SoundJam), so I am not a newbie, but this has me baffled.

May I add, that I gave full rights to the user at the Mac Mini to access and change data on the server drive for ITunes Media.

  • Playlists not showing up after moving itunes to new computer

moved itunes to new computer and used an externa;l harddrive to move "iTunes" folder over.  the most recent "setup" of itunes on old computer is not showing on new computer.  For example "music" file size on external drive is 133GB - on new computer itunes, only 33GB.  and, playlists have disapeared.  any ideas?

See Make a split library portable for some background on moving the library successfully. You need the main iTunes library.itl file, its supporting files and the Album Artwork folder as well.
If you can find that data it should be possible to put everything together in the right shape and make it work.
Otherwise I have two scripts called ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats which may prove useful.

  • Moving to a new mac, what is the painless way to transfer contents of one m

Moving to a new mac and I'm pretty sure about how to go about doing it but thought I'd ask. Can I connect a firewire cable from old mac to new mac, connect network wise and take the home folder from the old computer and place it in the new home folder of my new mac? will this copy all my info from my old mac to my new mac and place everything in it's appropriate folder? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest you use the built-in application called Migration Assistant to transfer you data.
The first time you start up your new Mac, a screen will prompt you as to whether you'd like to transfer your data from your old mac. At that point you start up the old mac in target mode and connect it via Firewire to the new Mac. Then just follow the directions to transfer your data.
You can also choose to do the transfer at a later time. The Migration Assistant is always available in the /Applications/Utilities folder.
I strongly recommend against simply transfering your home folder from one computer to the other.

  • How to I get play count on my iphone to show up in itunes on new mac?

I got a new macbook pro and downloaded the music from my other computer through homeshare. The play count on my phone would show up on the old computer but hasnt on the new mac even after syncing multiple times. I want the play count from the old computer's itunes to transfer to the new one.

Try syncing them back to your iPhone using iTunes.  Open iTunes on your Mac.  Connect your iPhone.  Select the albums or photos on your Mac that you wish to transfer back to the iPhone.  Click Sync.  They should then be synced to your iPhone.

  • Transferring iTunes to new Mac - several problems

I'm upgrading from an old MacPro, OS X version 10.6.8 to a new Mac Mini, version 10.10.2.  iTunes versions 11.2.2 to 12.1.0.   I updated iTunes on the New Mac, and registered the New Mac with the iTunes Store.  I then connected the two Macs and transferred the entire iTunes directory from Old Mac to New Mac.  But:
    (1)  I only see 39 of my 161 apps in the app view.  The missing apps aren't listed at all.
    (2)  My play lists are all messed up - like they're old versions of the playlists
    (3)  All my Apple Store purchased music is listed as "in the cloud" rather than being local and resident on the New Mac, even though all the files transferred
    (4)  My Audible-purchased audiobooks are also not present in the library list even though all the ".aa" files transferred
Thinking I screwed up, I trashed the entire iTunes directory on the New Mac and did the whole process over again.  And I checked in iTunes Preferences Advanced to ensure the library was pointing to the right directory.
Help!  I really shouldn't have to re-download all my songs, re-download all my audiobooks, re-download ~130 apps, and rebuild all my playlists.  Please tell me it is something simple.
    Many advanced thanks.

Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
When this is to a new computer put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
If you did the above and it did not work then sometime in the past you did something that changed the configuration of iTunes files on your computer.  We will not know for sure what to advise unless you tell us what it was you did.

Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.

  • How do I move iTunes to new Mac from ext drive?

I bought a new Macbook Air and need help moving my iTunes library from an external drive to the new computer. (My old Macbook Pro ran out of disk space so I moved the entire library to the other drive).  Now that I have new Air, how do I properly move the library from the ext drive? Thanks.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Unless you have a very small library I expect you'll be moving it back soon.

  • ITunes on new Mac doesn't have all my music in library

I recently purchased a new Mac Air and despite logging in with my Apple ID, the iTunes only shows 40 of 500+ music downloads. All 500+ music downloads appear in the iTunes account of my old PC. Why wouldn't all music downloads in iTunes appear on my new Mac?

I should mention that, for the first problem, I do make sure that my new tracks are stored in the folder where I told iTunes that my music is in. Also, when I say the cataloging of my library stops short of cataloging all my songs, I have tried leaving the computer unattended for days (my computer's sleep mode is disabled). It always stops before cataloging all of my music regardless of whether I am doing something else while iTunes is cataloging, or if I just let iTunes be the only program that's open during the cataloging process.

  • Moving mail to new mac

I used migration assistant to move files to new mac.  Most moved just fine.  Mail appears to have moved, but there are no mailboxes showing and the mail app is empty of any mail.
Support suggested I repair the keychain, copy mail, and copy preferences.  All seemed straight forward, except the com.apple.mail.plist.lockfile had zero bytes.  There was no com.apple.mail.plist , just the one with the .lockfile extension and no contents.
Is there any way I can unlock and rebuild that file or otherwise recover my mail on the new mac?
    help

There is a way to do this manually by digging for the mbox files in your ~/Library/Mail/* folders, copying them to your new machine, and importing the data into mail.
Unless you've done something like this before, you may want to wait for someone with a less technical solution before trying my option.  But you should know that it's possible, even if it's not easy.
If you want to give it a shot, let me know and I'll write up some steps to follow.  Be forewarned, though, that it will require commands in terminal...

  • How do I sync my existing iPhone 4 to a new iTunes my new Mac without losing everything?!

I have recently changed from a Windows PC to a new Mac and am in the process of setting it up. All I want to do is sync or copy my saved contacts, messages, apps etc from my phone to my new iTunes (seems like a much more difficult task then it should be) so I can continue to use my phone as is. Any ideas? I dont mind using third party apps as long as they're free and actually work. Thanks for any help

Idealy you should move your itunes content from your old computer to your new one
    Here are your options
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Then just sync your iPhone with the new computer. It will ask to erase but as everything in in your new itunes this is OK. Then choose what to sync back onto your iphone
If you no longer have the old computer here is how to restore your library from the iPhone
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Then you can sync your machine with the new computer.
If you do not care about this and just want to extract the items mentioned
I found this and it will extract your Contacts and messages.

    hi there,
I am experiencing a similar problem.
All of a sudden my spotlight stopped working.
It did that after I have tried in many ways to make NTFS-3G work, to recognize an external HD configured in NTFS.
    I have read all below.
In Activity Monitor MDS does not show.
When I launch Spotless a big red signal shows "SPOTLIGHT IS NOT ACTIVE".
"Master Indexing Status" is in RED and shows a message "Spotlight Content Indexing is Inactive".
I have tried to backup hostconfig file, but it shows SPOTLIGHT -YES- normally.
I really don't know what to try.
    Please help.
    Thanks

  • Importing itunes to new mac from itunes on windows or windows format ipod

I just recently purchased a new mac mini and an airport wireless network. I have shared my itunes library with the mac seemlessly from a windows laptop. It is my understanding that I should be able to download my store purchases to the mac, however haven't been able to find that option. My entire library is available on the mac but it requires having to have my windows machine fired up with itunes running in order to access my library. I also have a windows formatted ipod that when plugged into the mac will not let me copy anything into the mac library. I would like to have at least my purchased content accessible on the new mac without having to have my laptop running. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for your prompt reply. For your information there is a broken link on that page "Transfer from your Ipod"
