Moved iWeb before MobileMe shut down but need new host, please help

Hello all,
I successfully moved my iWeb site to a new host before MobileMe shut down and I remember a discussion offering lots of hosting sites that were good and free and some for pay.  I cannot find that discussion or the sites, although I thought I bookmarked them, there was one I even called and they were great but I can't find that bookmark UGHHHH.
So can you all please recommend me your faves and how good their customer service it.  I am using NYPWH.com and have been for years for a site I never changed and now that I have to do some stuff to the new iWeb site, I find they are a little impatient with me, especially as technically challenged as I am.
Thanks so much for the help.
Gina

Each of the web hosting companies that were mentioned, are unique in their own ways. I just wanted to clear up a couple of things to hopefully give you a better idea of which host might suit you best.
First, godaddy is a powerhouse in the domain registration and hosting department, but what I've noticed over the last little while is a large increase in price. I used to recommend GoDaddy to users who are price senstitive but now I advise against.
The other thing that concerns me about some of the other hosts is that they often offer introductory rates to entice their buyers. Once a user signs up and uses their services for 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, whatever it may be, the user will often have to pay a much higher rate when that introductory term is over. This is something I personally do not like, and as a consumer, I don't think it's a very fair way to get people to use a service. And the most important thing for an iWeb user, is that these big companies don't really know iWeb very well.
MacMate is more of a MobileMe replacement, and a better option for iWeb users who will want to take advantage of customer support geared towards an iWeb user. I like that they saw a need for a MobileMe replacement and are delivering. Their price is a bit high though, but still in line with the second-term prices of some of the other companies.
Rage software does offer all of the services of an ordinary host. So I think there was some mininformation there. The things I like about Rage is they've been a pretty big part of the iWeb community for many years, so their support team knows iWeb in and out. A quick look at their price shows that they are actually one of the cheaper hosts ($5/month on the 3 year term, no introductory rate or more expensive rate upon renewal). They also provide their well known iWeb SEO Tool software for free to their hosting customers, which is a pretty big bonus in my opnion. Also, take a look at all their videos showing tips and tricks for iWeb users http://youtube.com/ragesw
So to summarize, I'm not really fond of those bigger companies that offer the introductory rates and then jack the prices when the user needs to renew. I like the idea of MacMate, and it seems like a good alternative solution to MobileMe to users who don't mind paying a bit extra to receive similar services to MobileMe. I like Rage because of price, iWeb support, and the free software, so they would be my recommendation. Use Rage software and dropbox if you're a user looking to replace iDisk. It's free, fast, syncs with all your computers, iPads, iPhones, etc.
I hope this was helpful and gives users a better idea about the hosting companies that are out there.

  • HT204053 I started using iCloud on all my Apple products before MobileMe shut down, setting up a new ID and password to do that.  When MobileMe moved to iCloud, it became my primary account for iCloud and is interfering with everything I had done before.

I started using iCloud on all my Apple products, using a new password and ID, before MobileMe shut down.  Apparently I shouldn't have done that, because when MobileMe moved to iCloud, it automatically became my primary account and took over everything I had previously set up on my iCloud account.  I would like to eliminate the MobileMe account, but I can't find a way to do it.  Anyone have any experience with this?  It's making me very frustrated with iCloud.

The primary account is the one signed into in System Preferences>iCloud (or on an iPhone Settings>iCloud). If it isn't the account you want to use, simply sign out and the sign back in with the required account. On signing out your data will be removed from your Mac but not from the iCloud server.
If you want to you can sign in with the other account in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars - you can sync that account's email, contacts and calendars and they will appear alongside the equivalent data in the primary account.
The main differences are that the secondary account's email will not be 'pushed' but will be checked periodically, and the secondary account cannot use PhotoStream.

  • When running on battery power, my MBP shuts down after 30 mins..please help

this has been happening for the last two weeks; whenever i run my MBP on battery, it goes blank/shuts down after about 30 mins...would start back on, but shut down even before the login screen comes! i checked the battery display under the laptop-it showed 3 green lights!! TIA!! i bought my MBP off the apple website last september!

With your symptoms, most likely, yes. If you have a 17" MBP, you are out of spec (based on Apple's specification of 80% health for 300 cycles). If you have a 15" MBP, you're in spec (84% health), but your symptoms indicate a problem (i.e. a defective battery). So, contact AppleCare!
You can't calibrate now. I asked because if a battery goes too long (150-220 cycles) without calibration, the "sudden loss of power" can result.
    Hope this helps...
Graham, that's why I inquired about calibration, but with the OP's cycle count, that's not the issue. Also, FYI the "battery condition" information is part of System Profiler with Leopard; the OP lists Tiger, and did post all the information available under Tiger.

  • Flash shuts down after start up screen - please help

I had a strange problem develop yesterday. Whenever I start
Flash 8 the start up screen shows for a moment, then disappears and
the program shuts down and never starts. I ran Ad-Aware, Spybot,
HijackThis and even did a file search by date to see if anything
appeared on my computer that would cause this but I found nothing.
I have Flash MX installed as well and it was doing the same thing
    when I tried that. I repair/installed Flash 8 - didn't work, then
uninstalled Flash 8 and installed again and it's still doing the
same thing. I suppose I could uninstall MX too and try again but I
suspect that's not the problem. Any thoughts?

Your capacitors are leaking, this is a known issue with Rev A G5 iMacs, and they should be replaced, along with the logic board. Take it in and if t stays up long enough, try to clone it to an external drive to save your data. I use SuperDuper! to do this.

  • When i press shut down my mid2010 mbp restarts, please help!

when i press shut down, my mid 2010 mbp restarts, please help!

OK, that eliminates a sticking power button, which would have been a possibility if you were using that button to bring up the Shut Down option.
Does this problem occur when you're running on battery power, on AC power, or both?
In System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter tab, do you have "Start up automatically after a power failure" checked? If you do, uncheck it, quit System Prefs, and see whether the problem persists. Post back with results.
Oh, and since you say this also happens when you select "Sleep" — does it happen when you close the display to put the machine to sleep, or only when you select the "Sleep" command from the Apple menu?

  • My ibook suddenly shut down and wont start up. please help!!!

hi, im new to macs so i need help! my ibook g3 700hmz was acting completly normal and i was using elmedia player on it, suddenly it went on hybernate while i was using it. i could not revive it no matter what i did and i could not shut it down so i took the battery out. now it will not start up, power on, or do anything at all. it makes no difference if i plug it into the charger, take battery out or anything. i tried to reset the PMU but had no success. i took out the ram and tried to start it but still nothing. someone sugested it could be the logic board but would it just suddenly die all of a sudden? another suggested the hard drive but it should still power on with a bad harddrive shouldnt it? could it be the dc board? the battery is low but when you press the button on it one light does come on and blinks for about 10 sec. i have no way of testing the charger but it worked fine the night before. any help would be apreciated.

It's really hard to tell whether the battery would have enough capacity to boot. Lack of bootability may be due to hard drive corruption, as well. Having the CDs (or DVD, as the case may be with Mac OS X 10.4, from which to boot could help you figure out whether that is a problem, although I would expect it to at least start up to a flashing question mark folder if it were a hard drive problem.
When a battery doesn't charge properly, the most likely problem is the battery.
The next-most common problem is the adapter. They do wear out, and it's entirely possible that this may be the cause of the problem.
Next in line for consideration is the power input (DC-in) board. This is the part of the iBook that houses the adapter port. Usually when it goes out, the adapter doesn't work at all. It won't charge the computer, and it won't run the computer. In this case, once the battery runs down, the only way the computer will run is with a battery that has been charged externally (by another iBook or an external battery charger).
The least frequent cause of a battery not charging is the logic board. The power management unit (PMU) can be permanently defective. If this is what is going on, you probably won’t see any charge to the battery at all, but, in my experience, the adapter does run the iBook (unlike when the DC-in board is at fault).
My best estimate in your case is that the battery died completely, since you were using it from the battery when this happened. My 800 MHz iBook came back from a logic board repair with a defective logic board that wouldn't allow me to use the battery at all. As soon as I unplugged from the adapter, the iBook died. It didn't just go to sleep, though, it died completely. So if you had a sudden failure of the logic board, I wouldn't expect it to just go to sleep. Suspect, in this order: battery, adapter, DC-in board, and, finally, the logic board. Because of the way this happened, unless you dropped it or spilled something on it, I would not expect it to be a logic board problem (but that's just my best assessment of the situation, based on my experience). If you want to have it analyzed by professionals, DT&T Services in Fremont, California may be your best bet. They do free diagnostics, but it would cost you shipping charges both ways in order to find out what's wrong with it for certain. They also offer the cheapest logic board repair I've found, often less than what you'd pay for a logic board without labor, and they have a six-month warranty on the part(s), but I'm not sure whether that six-month warranty includes labor. You'd need to ask.
    Good luck.

  • Mail Crashes and shuts down whenever downloading e-mail - Please Help!

Hallo, I´ve got a serious Problem / Bug:
Whenever I want to receive mails, Mail app crashes and quits.
    I am using Leopard 10.5.1
I am able to compose and send mail, but not receive any.
I found a post about mail.app crashing, which describes a situation when mail quits, because of a smart mailbox referring to an adressbook smart group: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1296368
I´ve had indeed a smart mailbox referring to a smart adressbook group. And I´ve had a rule referring to a smart group. But after deleting them, the problem persists! The only thing that has changed, is that mail now seems to crash a couple of seconds later. That means, now the crash occurs after downloading about 4 e-mails. Before that the crash regularly occured while downloading the first e-mail. Well its a small improvement, but a crash is a crash.
I really need help on this! Maybe there is an apple engineer, who can figure this out! Thank you much!

another hint: mail app also crashes when clicking on an original apple rss- feed-link within mail. Hallo? Whats that? I am not a beta tester!

  • Need new camera- please help

I'm looking to buy a new camcorder. One of the main jobs I want to use it for is filming football games from the sidelines, so something that can capture fast-moving action and run for a long time would be great. I've heard that Hard Drive cameras won't work with the setup that I have, so I guess I'm mainly looking for a good Mini-DV camera.
    My specs are:
    Computer: 12" Powerbook G4
    OS: Mac OS X 10.4.11
    Editing software: iMovie HD6

Looks good - just checked out the specifications here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=174&mo delid=18004#ModelTechSpecsAct
Note that the DV Terminal described as IEEE1394 (4 pin) is what the rest of us calls Firewire, which is what you want!

  • My macbook pro (late 2008) shuts down but battery is at 25-30%

My macbook pro (late 2008) shuts down but battery is at 25-30% and I don't get a low power warning box before this happens.  This only happens when the power chord is not connected, and it restarts with no problems once I put the power chord in. Does this mean I need a new battery, or is it an indication of something else? Using osx 10.5.8

Mine is Unibody 15" MBP late 2008, with the exact problem as yours. It can be a sudden shut down at 25-32%, or, after upgrading to OS 10.7.2, can be hang all of sudden on battery power.
Condition on, "Replace Soon". From 4.5 - 6 hours when new, goes down to 1 - 2 hours on discrete graphics.
But after 'abusing' it for the first year in the heat of Jakarta's climate in a non AC room when doing a video editing, before moving back to a comfort AC room at home sweet home, the battery performance is still top notch comparing to other kind than Apple. Also, it caused me to replace the right fan, after a lot of hard work on that first year. Oh, and by the way, I regularly done the battery calibration, at least once or twice between 3-6 months.

  • My Firefox 20 seems to not shut down but only restart. Also, rather than my home page, the last pages visited appear.

It's as if Firefox 20.0 never shuts down but only restarts.
Even when I close Firefox 20.0 by clicking the X button on the top right or use "exit," when I open Firefox, it acts the same as if I'd used "restart," namely the tabs don't load until I click on them. Furthermore, the 4 pages I use as my home pages aren't there but rather whatever pages I had up when I last closed my browser.
I have tried creating a new profile, which worked ONE TIME. Then, it went back to my problem.
I have used "restore" to go back to a time before the problem started but that hasn't worked.
I removed the addon I had downloaded in that time period but that didn't help, either.
Thank you for any help you can give. I know you're all volunteers and your time is important.

Does it seem like that Firefox is crashing? Try checking if there are any crash reports by going to about:crashes in your browser. Alternatively you can try safe mode as outlined below:
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''

  • G4 shuts down but have to wait and manually restart

I suddenly have a problem where if I try to restart my G4 (running OSX 10.4 or OS9 - I have a dual boot with two hard drives) it shuts down but does not restart. If I try to start up immediately it just cuts out, and I need to wait about 5 min before I can get it to start up. I've replaced the battery and tried resetting the CHUD switch on the motherboard, but to no avail. Disc checks ok too.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

Hi, after updating my iphone since 2 weeks back now i am facing a battery problem i charce fully my iphone and by the end of the day my iphone shuts down it needs to be charged again and if i didi some calles it leaks after few hours. Please adivse me what to do.

I final piece for me in the jigsaw following on from this
    http://www.care4pcs.co.uk/2012/10/how-to-be-happy-gmail-user-on-iphone-or.html
is to turn off wifi when you do not need it. When I leave the house I turn off wifi, because the majority of the times when my iPhone has got very hot and crashed is when I am away from home. I suspect that if the iPhone is in the vicinity of public wifi (wheather secure or not secure) it will try and connect, even if you have 'automatically join known networks' set to off. This is easy of course if you have an unlimited data contract for your iPhone. I may be wrong, but it is working for me. It makes sense for me because it is another way of reducing the work the processor (and battery) has to do and therefore reduces the chance of overheating.
Having said that, I never had this problem with my iPhone 4. I now have a 4S.
Try it. Hope it works for you.
