I know this board can reach 300+ by reviews by Tom's Hardware. But I was wondering how I could get my FSB up there? I can't seem to get past the hurtle at 270. Anything above this will make the system fail to start up and I have to clear the BIOS again.
I lowered the HT to the equivalent of 3X, and CPU Multiplier to 8X using a venice core 3500+. I even tried adding voltage to the HT. I'm wondering if I'm missing something in this equation that stops me from getting 300+ FSB? The overclockable items are too many and unexplained.
If someone could spread some light on what else needs to be done, please tell me.
    My system is as follows.
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 3500+ Venice
    OCZ DDR600 Platinum Elite
    520 OCZ Powerstream

    Hi dude,
I have the similar problem as well.  Sounds like you are in the bad shape, but yeah, try to loose your RAM settings.  First, all settings auto seem to be good, but it's actually not the case.  You have to set TRC and TRFC as higher than 12 and 14.  I am seeting those to be 14, 18, and it seems to be working great.  It will be better to set the burst length as 4 beats.  I don't like this board coz I can't set the drive length to be weak instead of normal detected by the Windows.  My system can post, but I got problems of playing 3D demos and games, which looks like it's the problem of motherboard.  Not mature enough.
    My rig:
    AMD Athlon64 3700+ @ 2.7GHz
OCZ Platinum Elite DDR600 2.5-4-4-10 Dual Channel
    Leadtek PX6800GT @ 425/1200 at 2nd PCIe slot

  • K8N Diamond Plus (Beta Bios v1.16)

Some people claim they have a beta bios for the Diamond Plus.  I would like to get my hand on it too. Could you please send me the files
    or
link the address where I can download the beta...
I have contacted MSI, still waiting for a reply...
    Thanks

So I did notice some improvement with this BIOS, as well as some changes to the layout.  Base memory voltage now seems to default to 2.65 instead of 2.6.  But there is still no option to baseline memory settings by SPD, which would be extremely helpful.   Also, there is still an odd delay between voltage bumps and BIOS registration of the new voltage, sometimes requiring a reboot to make the registration complete.
The system is still very needy of tweaks and bumps here and there, but it seems to be settling down.   I need to find some 2x1GB RAM that will work with it without complaining.   I had some OCZ Platinums in there, but the board clearly did not like it, as no matter what I did, the thing crashed.    Tried some fast Geil 2x512 and that seems to get along with the board better.   Too much pain though to get there.
A HUGE thanks to Roger for helping us out on this...  he is a generous proxy for the MSI support folks.

i thought it was always like this

that is running memory into single channel.
you need to use DIMM1 & DIMM2 like Hans said to use Dual Channel.

  • K8N Diamond Plus incompatible w/ENERMAX Liberty ELT620

Howdy folks, 1st post and yet I'm about to loose my AMD virginity, so please be gentle.
The new build has already been purchased and is in transit, so info would be greatly appreciated.
    I a$$umed 620W Liberty with 12v combined @ 36A is over blown.
That is until I found this site. Still shaking my head at the high amperage needed for this type of bleeding edge tech.
    I’m just stunned that (2) 12v 22A rails are considered underpowered…
So any one have any success with this woefully <sarcasm ON> under powered cheap <sarcasm OFF> Enermax 620?
I really need the power and drive connectors, but most of the 26A PS would have too narrow of a head room.
I am well over budget, and the peripherals should be here for a weekend build.
Hoping folks with the Diamond plus and Enermax ELT620 could please post experiences.
Not sure if the second MoBo power plug works off the “other” rail, since I have not even seen this PS or K8N Plus.
Of course, I will post results.
    Thank you for your time

In most cases it should be just fine. The only area where it may fall over in is DLI'ing two of the bigger Vid cards. The reason is in how dual rails split the power. As far as anyone can tell the best solution for SLI'ing two high amp vid cards is still with a single rail PSU. Outside of that the Liberty should be fine by all I can tell without trying it myself. That won't happen though as I gave up on Enermax due to the fact that I want Dual High Draw Vid cards and they simply don't fit that bill in my book any longer. Either you get Dual Rails from them or the wrong cable sets. That is why I went to OCZ.

  • K8N Diamond Plus shutdown issue

I am running the K8N Diamond Plus with bios 1.2
    3500+ <stock ghz>
    2x1gb corsair
    1 74gb raptor
    1 7900GT 256
    2 samsung dvd burners
    OCZ520ADJSLI powersupply
    2 case fans
Recently, my powersupply went out and i ordered a new one.. same model...when i hooked it up and turned on the computer, Windows loaded, i logged and shortly after i logged in, the computer shutdown... like, no blue screen, no reboot... it just turned off like it was shuttingdown or someone pulled the power cord.
confused, i hit the power button and the computer turned back on, but this time, it barely made it to the login screen and it shut off again.. each time, i would turn it on, it would shut off sooner than the previsous time.  so i stripped everything out.. no fans, no hd, do dvds, different ram, same cpu, same vid card.  This time i just booted to the bios.  at 30 seconds it turned off. i turned it back on. at 23 seconds it shut off, i turned it back on. at 15 seconds it shut off, i turned it back on... it got to the point that as soon as i would hit the power button, it would shut off...
thinking that i could of possible received a bad power supply, i hooked it up to a different mother board.  this system did not shut off.
any ideas on what could be going on?  unfortunatly at this time i do not have another power supply to test on this board. I will pick one up if people think the power supply could be the problem.
    thanks in advance!!

hello, sound like a bad new psu to me did you plug in both mobo connectors? do you have a volt meter to ck psu outputs might try that. another psu would be the next thing to try.  good luck Henry

  • K8N Diamond Plus BIOS problems

Hi , just replaced my lanpartyUT sli-dr expert with K8N Diamond Plus mobo and having problems allready :D
    Just finished overclocking and now running at (250 x 11 x 800mhz x 1.300v+0.2v x dram/fsb 1/1 x 2.80v)
    Memory timings --> (3,7,14,3,2,8,2,2,1,3,200mhz(15.6us),1,16x,7x,7ns,5ns,0clk,DiCC:enabled,1T,8beats,reduce 00%... ...)
The problem is "BOOT" related... System is PRIME95 stable , but still when trying to "restart windows" or "reset" the system wont BOOT !!?
When i shutdown and then power up, the system boots perfectly !? What can cause this kind of behaviour :/
I have OC:d quite many systems , but this is new even to me

The windows core program shows htt link 1000mhz exact. Memory settings are all "manually" adjusted. Cpu vcore is 1.300 & extra voltage 0.2v=1.5v.
All ECC options are disabled.Hdd:s adjusted manually. Should i rise the (NB) voltage , or does that have anything to do with this !? Maybe not at 250fsb only :D Cool & quiet is disabled naturally :/ All fan controls disabled , connected directly to psu. No D.O.T,s or anything automatic overclocking enabled. The (L cache & data cache scrubs) are strange to me, so those are disabled. After flashed bios , enabled boot sector protection. All the mobo power connectors are in use (24pin+8pin+4pin) Could it be that the memory modules should be used on ports 3 & 4 (now on 1 & 2) ??

  • K8N Diamond Plus- bios freeze & question about temp/voltage monitor

A weird issue I had right after I setup my mobo last night was that I could not access the "PC Health" portion of the bios.  If I tried selecting it, it would just freeze.  Is this a known issue?  I'm hoping a bios update may solve this one.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I was mostly just asking if this was a known issue, so I guess "no" is all the answer I need...  Now, what would be my best solution?  I am assuming bios update, is there anything else that I should consider?
But if it helps, as I said its a brand new build, so I'm running the default bios. 1.00.  My other components are:  Silverstone Zeus 560w, 2GB of G.Skill pc4000, Raptor 74gb, 7900gtx, Opteron 165.
Also, since my other thread was locked (I figured seperating two different topics would make it easier for people to respond to specific questions, I apologize,) here's my other question pasted:
"I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-
I am getting temps of about 31C idle, 41C load.  Nice temps yes, but I'm not sure how accurate those are.  That means that it is idling at 86F in a room that was probably in the high 70's, maybe 80.  Seems a little too good to be true, but then again, I am used to Intel's furnace-like temps
Its the voltage reading that has me a bit more concerned though.  Corecenter is reading my +5v as 5.36v, and my +12v as 12.28v.  The +3.3v is reading about spot-on at 3.33v.  I'm hoping that someone else who has this motherboard can tell me this- are the readings in Corecenter for this motherboard generally accurate, and should I be concerned about this?"
Thanks for any help you can give.  No sig yet because I just registered an hour ago, I'll work on it.

  • K8N Diamond Plus BIOS Bootmanager?

On my old DFI Nforce3 board I had a feature that was really handy. At boot I could hit escape and then choose the drive I want to boot from in a quick popup menu. Does the K8N Diamond Plus have a simmular feature? I find this to be very usefull becasue I dual boot x64 and x32 winxp and not having to deal with software bootmanagers was really nice. Honestly it was the only nice thing that DFI board had

  • CPU Usage 100%? K8N Diamond Plus

Never before have I witnessed the CPU being used at it's absolute maximum.  It has been occuring regularily with my system.  I noticed it first when my screen saver started getting jittery.  This seems to occur most often about 1-2 minutes after windows finishes loading.  It seems kind of odd to me that this occurs during typically idle system times.  The memory usage also dramatically rises during these spikes, using ctrl+alt+delete I noticed svchost.exe to be the culprit of the memory usage atleast.  The hard drive doesn't appear to be active when these events occur.  Is this normal for this motherboard, or is this something that should be corrected?
I've always had 3 short beeps upon startup with this board, but it has never stalled the boot process.  Anyone know what this means?
I've upgraded my board somewhat recently and carried over the CPU and memory from a older MSI model that used the same type.  Could it be possible either or both are incompatible?
Also one, somewhat less important problem.  First off I must say that the PS/2 power on feature is pretty cool.  I used it with a wireless keyboard so I could turn on my PC from my living room HDTV (I have my comp wired through Y/Pr/Pb cables).  Only problem is about one in every 4 or so shutdowns the system restarts immediatly when this feature is selected in the bios.  Bios issue maybe?

  • K8N Diamond Plus boot problems

I just built a new computer and it was working fine for about a month.  Then one morning when I started it up it wouldn't turn on.  The front LED's turn on, and the fans all start, but nothing ever shows up on the screen.  The set of four lights on the back show  R R
                                                                                                    G G
Nothing has changed since the pc was working fine.  I haven't changed any bios settings or added any hardware or software.  I did try resetting the bios using the CMOS jumper, but this didn't change anything.  The lights on the back show that it is initializing ide drivers, but in the manual it also shows that it is one of the last steps in the start-up process, so i would think that the memory check, processor count, msi logo ect. should appear on the screen like it normally does.  However, the LED that blinks when the hard drive is active never lights up, but when i open the case and feel the hard drive i can feel it vibrating like it is functioning properly.  And if it is a hardrive failure, then shouldn't the bios still start up and show up on the monitor?  I have heard that many weird problems can be attributed to the psu, but I have a 500w Antec Smartpower 2.0, which is a pretty reliable psu from what i've heard.  Any help or suggestions would be welcome.  Also, how would i test individual components to find out what is causing the problem?  I think since everything is within a couple of months old i should be able to get replacements.   Thanks in advance for any help.

You guys are awesome!  Thanks a bunch for the info on ram, I feel like I understand it better and I looked and found all the stuff in the bios that you guys were talking about.  I'm downloading speedfan currently and will go install it on my other computer.  I tried swapping the sticks of memory, but i ran into the same problem i did before.  So i'm assuming that i can safely say one stick is faulty right?  And do any of you guys have any experience trying to get replacement memory from crucial?  I'll have to go poke around their website also.  Well, thank you all so much for all of your help.  This is my first home built pc and i'm trying to learn alot about them.  Once everything is running properly i may try a little overclocking, but i'd like to get everything running smoothly first.  Just out of curiosity, what would make a stick of ram go bad like that?  It was only a month old, and i thought crucial xms was pretty good ram.  Is it not? or did i just get unlucky?
Thanks a ton for all the answers, this forum is the most helpful one i've ever seen.  thanks!
Maybe that you're unlucky to get those faulty RAM. Crucial RAM is not bad if you get the better performance if you're ocing your PC if or else get the value RAM if you don't oced.

  • Can't get k8n diamond plus working with 4x1Gb

I managed to get the DDR memory frequency running at 333MHz using only 2x1Gb in the Green slots of the motherboard (as listed in page 2-7 of the K8N Diamond Plus Manual).
However, when I add the other 2x1Gb modules to the Purple slots, the system does not even come up.
I've then went back to 2x1Gb in the Green slots so that I can get the system to fire up, gone into the BIOS and adjusted the settings according to the configurations below and restarted.
I've then shut-down and re-inserted the other 2x1Gb into the Purple slots so that 4Gb is present, then rebooted but the system still does not come up.
    Adjust CPU FSB Frequency: 200.0
Current DDR Memory Frequency (this is Read Only) DDR 333
Adjust DDR Memory Frequency: set to Manual
Memory Clock: Tried all of the following for DRAM/FSB 1/2,2/3,5/6,1/1,5/4
Does anyone know of any person who has got a K8N Diamond Plus working with 4x1Gb ?

Tried removing one of the video cards and disabling the sound card (as suggested by http://www.asktheramguy.com/v3/showthread.php?t=65436), but the system still didn't fire up with 4Gb RAM.

  • K8N Diamond Plus + Adaptec 39320

I have just built the following
    K8N Diamond Plus + ATI All-In-Wonder 800GT + Adaptec 39320 + 2 x Atlas 15k II (Raid 0) + 2 sticks of 2100 memory
When I reboot it's 50/50 whether or not we get to see the XP desktop or get a reset.  From a warm restart (within XP) it hardly ever boots.  From a cold start I get more success. In safe mode it gets as far as MUP.SYS and then waits. After that it may boot XP or reset.  Also the XP logo (fade in) at the start stutters a lot.
So I get the Adaptec bios screen, I get the XP logo fading in and then just when you expect to see the blue desktop it resets.  I have seen a couple of "controller failed to respond in time" in the XP event log.
Is this some kind of timing issue?  Is there a known fix?
    thanks
    charker

    Charker,
You power supply looks like a good one.  The reason that Stick and I were jumping on you power supply is that the symptoms you were giving are those that we see a lot of and the cause nine out of ten times is to small or bad power supply.  Yours being new this should not be the case, but even the best company let a bad one get out the door some times, for right now I am going to assume that the power is OK.
One other thing before we get to your problem, the Forum likes to see your system specifications in your post or preferred in your signature.  It helps us help serive you better, note my signature, if you would had a signature like mine or Stick’s we would not of had the ask you about you power supply and could have gone directly to other causes of problem that can cause you symptoms and saved a lot of time.
Now, there have been many problems with the Diamond Plus.  It is a very advance motherboard number and many people with little experience with computer are having the most problems.  As you see I am building a new Diamond Plus system and I am also using a third party Hard Drive controller like you are so, I think we can talk and know what the other is saying, but just so I know what level of instructions I need to give when I ask you to do something.  Wil you let know a little about yourself and computers.
First, myself and others have had problem with thrashed BIOS parameters that are not listed in the BIOS setup routine, so I would like you to Clear your BIOS as the first thing you do.  However, there is a problem here to the MS-7220 MB many people have been having a problem with the reset circuit on the MB.  Therefore, to insure you have a truly cleared BIOS and it will not given us problems.  Unplug the AC Power and pop the battery out of the motherboard and let it set all night or at lest eight hours.  I personally run around in circles for days until some one clued me in to the trick.
Second, unplug all equipment not required to start Windows and see if that has any effect on the problem.  Where we are going with all this is looking for some hardware or software that is not responding fast enough or at all the in the required time Windows is giving it.  Following this same line check you System Even Log for Warnings or error about hardware or services that Windows has to restart more than once or does not respond quickly enough.
Third, I have new BIOS that if you would like to try it sent me a personal message with your e-mail address and I will send you a copy.
Try all of that and let me know what you find.  Do not reply only if you just still have problem, because we like to know if what we have told you worked and it helps other people who may be having your same problem.
If you do not understand any of my instructions or need more details, just reply and we will work it out.
Good luck and hope to hear from you soon.
    Roger
When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.
