I have a K8N NEO Platinum MOBO, 2 GIG Ram with 1G in Each Dimm 1 and Dimm 2, Dimm 3 is empty.  I have updated my bios from 1.7 to 2.1... With 1.7 my RAM runs at DDR400 no problem just like manual says.  With 1.8, 1.9 or 2.1 I can only get DDR333???? What gives, anyone have the same problem.

  • Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 with MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40)

    I am interested in Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM. Currently, I’m using MSI MS K8N Neo Platinum (Bios Version 1.40) with AMD 64bit 2800+ & MSI MS 8907 FX5200-TD128 AGP Card.
Please advice whether the Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 (PC4000) 512MB DDR-SDRAM compatible with my systems.

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. In that case, you hold insert while powering on to reset the BIOS to default safe values.
As for your problem getting into Windows' Safe Mode. If you upgraded from another motherboard that uses a different chipset, or if you somehow got the wrong chipset drivers installed, then the old AGP GART or chipset drivers will cause the system to halt/reboot very early in the Windows boot process even in safe mode. I've run into this problem before and its tricky. Best thing to do is switch back to the old motherboard, then go into safe mode and remove all chipset-related drivers, and then switch back to the new motherboard. If you can't do that, try running system repair from the windows setup CD. And failing that, you'd probably have to fully re-install the OS.

  • K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 XP 3700 heat question

i did do a quick search on here before posting this question but had a load of varying answers ... so
i have a K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 an xp 3700 and core centre says the chip is at about 45 - 50 degrees when the pc is idle
this is with the stock fan that came with the chip and ive also tried a samurai heatsink and fan .... ive reseated and reapplied artic silver and also tried thermal pads as well and the temp on the processor always comes back as 45 ish degrees
is this normal as the pc seems to run ok and even after round of doom 3 the temps only seem to hit about 55
are these chips hotter now or is it a bios / thermal temp issue
    cheers guys
    ohh and nice forums BTW

yup, issue with temp reading -> 1.43 beta bios for K8N NEO pL.  for me 36-39 idle 42-45 after a doom3 session

  • K8N NEO Platinum BIOS 1.8

I updated to this, only to find my machine would not boot to Windows. This, presumably because it was using 1T when, with two double-sided DIMMS, I require 2T. I couldn’t find anywhere to change that setting.
I noted on the boot screen that it was a workstation BIOS, and the flash utility is 859G rather than the usual 833C.
    Got 1.7 on there now.
Have other people had trouble with this?

  • K8N Neo Platinum Bios 1.3 Question

This is bit of a dumb question..... I am not a noob either, been building computers for 6 years.
I have a K8N Neo Platinum with AMD64 3000, 1 GB Corsair Value Ram, 160 GB Western Digital ATA Drive, ATI 9800 Pro 128MB Catalyst 4.7,   LG DVD Drive and NEC 2510A DVD burner, Windows XP Pro with SP 1a.
Tried to get into Safe Mode the other day ( to uninstall the video driver with Driver Cleaner) ...Hit F8 while booting , got the standard menu for safe mode, picked the standard "Safe Mode " option....then the computer restarts.
So I can't get into safe mode
I went back to the MSI website to get bios version again....then I saw this for Bios version 1.3 which I have on my board....
    Quote
System reboot to safe mode when "Insert" key pressed
Does this mean, instead of hitting F8...you hit the insert key , or does this mean hit F8, chose the menu selection you want , then hit insert while it is going through the boot process.
    Thought that I would ask?

The "safe mode" that the BIOS message refers to is not related to Windows' Safe Mode. The BIOS safe mode lets you un-do any overclocking or memory settings that might make your computer so unstable that you can't even get into the BIOS settings to change them. I see a lot of beta 1.5x BIOS releases for K8N Neo Platinum. Anybody know when the official release will come from MSI???

yes but its also wrong to assume tha beta BIOS are unstable.in fact most these days are rock stable hence the fact they become official.

    K8N Neo4 Platinum - Overclocking Troubles - Memory Timings (2T)

i had a similar problem at first, my system wouldnt post even at shockingly low overclocks, like 225 fsb, anyway i noticed that the 1,5 bios automatically set some strange timings for my ram, cant remember exactly what but when i went through the timings manually then i could clock up to 280 or so.  This is on 166mhz memlock, i still cant get a decent overclock using the 150 memclock or anything lower.
Contacted MSI but the 'technical support' department, although quick to respond, seemed absolutely clueless when it comes to overclocking.

  • K8N Neo Platinum BIOS 1.4 temperatures

When I upgraded my K8N Neo Platinum from BIOS version 1.3 to 1.4 temperatures jumped up by 7 to 10 degrees and average vcore dropped by about .03 volts (both read from Core Center).
Both readings reverted back when I switched back to BIOS 1.3. I'm just concerned as to which is more accurate. I was planning on doing some mild overclocking on this system, but if the 1.4 readings are right (51C idle) then I don't have much room.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any idea on which temps are more accurate?
    My system:
    K8N Neo Platinum (socket 754)
    A 64 3400 (Newcastle)
    Enermax 550 watt power supply
    Thermaltake Venus 12 CPU cooler

If you check around you will see, especially as applies to Neo2s the temp numbers are all screwed up. With all prior bioses my computer showed temps ranging from +175 to -128 irrespective of load.
This is especially irksome as I am vapor cooling and know from an external temp probe I installed right on top of the heat spreader on the CPU that I am running well below zero even under full load.
I cannot comment on the 1.41 bios yet because my board decided to blow up a capacitor last week and I haven't received my replacement yet.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum Bios Update - Best Procedure?

I have built a new system:
    K8N Neo4 Platinum Award Bios Version 1.3
    ATHLON XP64 X2 4200+ E4 Stepping
    2GB Transcend RAM (2x1GB)
    EVGA 6600GT 128MB PCI-E
Samsung Spinpoint 200GB SATA on Sata1
    Samsung TS-H522U DVD-RW
    Floppy
    Seventeam ST-550EAG  3.3V= 30A, 5.0V=30A, 12V1= 18A, 12V2= 18A
    Windows  XP Pro SP2
I'm not overclocking and DOT is disabled. Optimized parameters are loaded.
System is running but  my BIOS version does not support dual core. I have installed all NForce 6.66 drivers and VGA drivers, and all Windows updates. What is the best procedure to flash bios, Winflash or MSI floppy method? What version of BIOS should i try,  1.6 or 1.8?
    Thanks.

Hi, when you ask 10 people about the best method to flash BIOS, you will probably get 10 different answers
    Some observations:
    1. Flashing under Windows has become "normal procedure" for boards of most other manufacturers; (I will not use this method for my MSI boards, though, because of the negative opinion on it in this forum. If the comments are correct, then the only conclusion can be that MSI software engineers are at present not able to deliver a Window-based flashing program with which MSI-BIOSes can be flashed into MSI boards in a safe way. I'd rather not find out the exact reason for this  . I have used Windows-based flashing programs numerous times with boards from other manufacturers - Abit, Asus, Soltek, ECS, etc. without any problem).
    2. If the procedure as described by Syar really has significant advantages over "plain flashing", then it means that either the BIOSes are flaky, or the boards are instable. Such precautions have never been necessary and should not be necessary! I can only recommend - just to be on the safe side - that, while flashing, you dance around the computer, carrying two carrots, an onion and chanting "Flash! Flash! Flash!
    3. There is something to say for not flashing from a floppy. Floppies are the oldest part of nowadays computers and the medium is probably the least failsafe part ... Therefore I have reserved a small (100 MB) FAT32 partition on a HDD, BIOS files and most recent flashing program will be copied to that partition. I will start the PC with a W98SE bootflop, go to that partition and flash from there. I have used this method a great number of times over the years, I will never add any switch when running the program.
    Additional Info
    Regards
    Hans
    Hi hansh,
thanks for that. I'll boot with a Win98 bootCD (NTFS support included) and thinking about flashing with an Iomega USB pen drive (FAT32). Any comments here?
And, blazing storm, thanks again for your valuable reply.
