2. Jumpering the drive to 150mbps (SATA I) limit...
Sorry, I missed where you mentioned trying the SATA 1.5 jumper prior to my post.  This is concerning, though...

3. Flashing the bios to an earlier version with SATA ROM updates...
Later BIOS releases carry-over all the changes of previous releases.  You don't need to go backwards to get the earlier change.
Which BIOS version did you have before and are using now?  I'm having trouble determining which board you have from "K8T Neo (MS-6702 v1.0)".  Is this your motherboard?
K8T Neo-FSR / FIS2R
I might be able to update the VIA SATA ROM in your BIOS to the latest version (v4.97) but I need to know for certain which board and BIOS.

  • Yoga 2 Pro won't recognize my Seagate external hard drive

I have a Yoga 2 Pro that won't recognize my Seagate Backup Slim 2TB USB 3.0 external hard drive.
I ordered one from Amazon and it didn't recognize immediately when I plugged it in. The disk drive shows up in Devices and in Device manager with the Yellow caution triangle, but it never shows up in drives under my computer or in Disk Management (Where you change partitions, etc.)
So I ordered a replacement from amazon, I thought it was broken. I had tried it in a different computer and the same thing happened so I assumed it was the drive. On a whim I tried it on the alternate machine again except this time I bypassed the USB hub and plugged it directly into USB 2.0, it worked!
I installed a Paragon HFS+ software (it's for Mac Only Seagate drives to work with windows, even though this drive is NOT Mac only) and the installation failed, and my computer started messing up. It wouldn't completley power off nor restart. It just hung at the shutting down screen indefinitely.
Finally, I let the computer die, turned it back on, plugged in the hard drive and it worked. But I had already ordered the replacement. So I had to return the original and go tthe replacement and now it won't read at all.
Since I plugged it in, my computer will NEVER shut down, it will just sleep unless the battery dies, it won't restart either, it'll just hang at the restarting screen.
The drive still won't work, and the touchscreen doesn't work sometimes after a reboot. (Because I have to force shut it off everytime I want it off.)
I went into power settings and turned everything on max power (To help my battery die faster) and even changed the USB power option thing to disabled. I still don't know how I got it to work that ONE time and now I'm stuck. Any help or advice?

Oh I also had a message that came up when I tried to reconnect it to my comptuer. This is what the message stated:
The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.
and my only options I have are
    Initialize..., Ignore, Eject
what are my options of getting my data restored? I don't care so much about the drive, I am concern about my 2TB of data on there. Please anyone help me with this!!!!! I am open to suggestions to get my data back.

  • MacBook won't detect Toshiba 1T external hard drive

I just upgraded my operating system on my MacBook Pro and now my laptop won't detect my Toshiba 1T external hard drive, even though I've been using it before.  Any ideas?

Adam513, turned out the latest operating system doesn't read Microsoft formatted external hard drives the way it used to.  I had to purchase a new external hard drive, them find an apple computer with an older version operating system so I could transfer my files to the new external which is formatted for Mac.  The new external works fine and once I have all the files transferred, I'll reformat my old external hard drive.  Took me and the guy at the Genius Bar a while, but we finally figured this out.  Hope this helps!

  • 4520s Won't Open 3TB Seagate External Hard Drive

I think I have a Hardware Issue:  I have a HP Probook 4520s laptop running windows 7 Prof. 32Bit and a Seagate 3TB external hard drive. When I plug in the Seagate, my laptop auto detects it and it shows up in device manager under disk drives named “Seagate External USB Device”. But, it does NOT show in my-computer in the hard disk drive folder and therefore I can’t open it. I have plugged the Seagate into 5 various other windows driven laptops and desk-top computers  to include my MS Surface 2 and it shows up AND opens in all of them, just not my 4520s… Why? And, what can I do to fix this serious limitation?

Actually, I figured it out. After I ejected the hard drive, I noticed a file with the same name as the HD. I had to "force eject" this file, but once that was done, I could open Word files from my HD again. Thanks for your help!

  • K8T Neo MS-6702 ver1 with XFX 7600GT AGP issue

    Hi All,
We have a customer with the following issue (this is a copy of the Email sent to XFX Tech)
We have a customer that we have sold a PV-T73A-UDF7 VA.1 W09/06 (XFX 7600GT AGP) when it is installed on his MSI motherboard (K8T Neo MS-6702 v1) it won’t load the OS/go into BIOS, Hangs at the Post screen,
Have flashed BIOS to latest version
    Have defaulted BIOS
We have tested the card in another computer it is fine…
The motherboard AGP slot works fine with other cards….
The PSU has been tested it is fine...
Do you have any ideas? Or know of any issues with this combination?

Hey thanks for the quick replies….
It some how fixed its self? And after an hour or so of swapping cards trying different PSU’s changing settings in BIOS ECT,
It some how came good, I can’t really explain why or how, could be a slightly faulty AGP slot on the MOBO?
Could have been the molex power connector to the video card?
Any way the machine rebooted fine several times so the end user was happy plus it saves me the hassle of having to get him a different brand card that may/may not have worked and getting stuck with an AGP to try and sell!!
P.S wish the ASUS forums were as good as the MSI ones!! nice work everybody

  • Mb k8t neo -- ms-6702 ver 2.0

    hi
    i'm enrico and i have a this mainboard of msi mb k8t neo -- ms-6702 ver 2.0
I installed a processor of amd CPU AMD SEMPRON 3000 64bit FSB-333MHz Socket754 but the bios is not supported ... press f1 beacause the bios not recognized the cpu
    the bios is a6702vms v5.30 060105
    There is a new bios
Thank you very mutch for the respond

Well there is little we can respond to here at the moment. This is not MSI but a USER to USER forum for MSI. No MSI staff this. However it is a known issue the Semperon 64's need a Bios to work right and there is none as yet folr them. Normal Semperons and Athlons work. Just not the Semperon 64's as yet.

  • IMac won't recognize Maxtor OneTouch 2 Hard Drive

I've been using a new Maxtor hard drive to store video for use with iMovie. All was working fine and I was able to store and recall video several times from the drive. Then the iMac stopped recognizing the drive. I've downloaded and installed the newest driver from Maxtor, fixed permissions and deleted the two extensions as recommended by Maxtor on their website. System profiler recognizes something is connected to the Firewire, but can't recognize it - and it does not even show up when using disk utilities. The drive seems to spin up fine when I turn it on. Only thing I notice differently on the drive itself is that the blue one-touch button used to blink by alternating between the top half and bottom half. Now it blinks faster and does not alternate between top and bottom. I don't care about recovering the video that's on the drive - I can replace that. I just want to know if there's a fix - or if it's just a bad drive. Any suggestions?

Came home and my computer was off after leaving it
on. Rebooted and now the keyboard won't do anything,
the ext. hard drive won't start. I can't insert the
repair disk because the keyboard won't operate.
Hmmm, what do you think I should try?

  • A205-S5000 won't boot. Says possible hard drive problem

Laptop won't boot and says possible hard drive problem. Need to recover
personal reports and data, so thinking of removing the drive and using an enclosure
so the data, if still good, can be extracted from the drive by another computer. Question
is, will I be able to create the restore cd's from the hard drive if the hard drive is not the
boot drive ie; attached to a 2nd computer via usb and enclosure.
If it's not possible, I can try to create cd's from a different model laptop (toshiba), same vista os but
what about the product key?  I will try to reinstall the bad drive and try a reboot to recovery mode but
I doubt that is going to work or complete. Idea was to get a new drive and try to install recovery disks.

    Satellite A205-S5000
Recovery discs must be from an identical model. If you can't burn them from that computer, best to order them
       Order Toshiba Recovery Media
    The restored Windows is pre-activated.

    K8T Neo-FSR BIOS didn't know sampron64

Blue screens have nothing to do with the Bios update. Those are trypically symptopmatic of other issues like low amps on the 12v rail for the devices you use or memopry issues and that like. Start by testing memory with memtest86+ as it is one of the likelyest suspects. Also post how many amps are on the 12v rail base on the lable on the PSU.
As for contacting MSI directly about when a Bios update is coming won'y get an answer but you are welcomed to contact them at support.msi.com.tw if you like.

  • K8T NEO (MS-6702 VT8237) can't find SATA drive

I just got a Seagate 160gb SATA drive (retail).  In the bios settings sata is enabled (default), Serial Port 1 is on Auto (default) but I don't know where to look in the BIOS to see that the drive is recognized.  I felt the drive and it's warm so I know it's getting power.  Brand new SATA cable from the Seagate box.  I'm using the drive as the primary drive to install OS.  I downloaded "VIA VT8237(R) SATA RAID Driver (For floppy driver)". Put on floppy, restarted with my bootable XP disc, hit F6 when XP was starting setup.  It recognized the driver install (gave me driver choice of XP, 2000 and NT).  Picked XP and then it continues loading.  Finally says "no hard drive found" (or something like that).  I even tried keeping my IDE as primary so I could add it as a secondary drive in windows. Installed all the latest 4 in1 drivers, raid setup and everything and won't recognize.  This is my first SATA install so I guess I'm missing something.  I guess I shoulda got the EIDE to make it ez :(  Please help!

    Hi!
Have a look at the connector you used. If you have the full K8T Neo, you have two SATA controllers. One VIA and one Promise. You then have 4 SATA ports on the board. you need to use the ones closest to your RAM, so, the upper ones.
Did you buy a SATA or SATA-II disk? In case it's SATA-II, check the SATA/SATA-II jumper on the drive and set it to SATA-I. Your board does NOT support SATA-II.
when you checked this, please verify in BIOS that you actually did enable the VIA V8237 SATA controller. When you did, boot further untill the POST screen disappears. Now, you see a VIA SATA BIOS screen. It should list your Seagate now.

  • Need help with k8t neo ms-6702 and cpu compatiblility question.

I have a msi k8t neo motherboard socket 754 ms-6702 bios version 2.2 with a athlon 64 2800+ in my computer. I just bought a AMD Athlon 64 3700+ CPU Socket 754 .1MB cache. When i install it, my power goes on and i get no activity. Im wondering if i got a bad cpu off ebay or my bios isnt current enough ( i used msi live updating software and its currently at v 2.2) or does my motherboard not support this high of a cpu? Im not very computer literate.  Thanks for any help and info. If i need to update my bios, i downloaded version 7.1 but i dont know how to flash it, can somone give me the steps

I had a bad experience with a 3700 bought on e bay ,turned out to be an engineering sample ."special m/b bios reqd" in my case I did get a boot and the engineering cmos message. genuine 3700 754's are quite rare and fetch premium prices.

  • K8T Neo creates 'phantom' RAM and won't recognise the real stuff...

I have just replaced my computer's motherboard and CPU, from an ancient ASUS A7V266-E motherboard and an AMD XP CPU (1.1GHz) to a new K8T Neo-FIS2R motherboard with an AMD Sempron 2.0GHz processor, both brand new. I thought that it would be possible to use all the other components until I can save up enough for a new graphics card, RAM etc.
All of the other components seem to work fine. After making all the connections and starting up for the first time, Windows (XP) loads successfully... but VERY, VERY slowly.
About an hour after loading, I finally manage to right-click on 'My computer' to be told that I apparently have "AMD Unknown Processor - 2.0 GHz" and "64MB of RAM".
This is what surprises me, because in the DIMM ports at the time were three 256MB PC2100 DDR sticks, all three identical - two which were in the motherboard I had before (sequential serial numbers and everything), and another one from another PC purchased at around about the same time.  All three worked fine in their old computers. So not only is the PC not recognising that it's actually got 762Mb of RAM stuck in it, but it's creating 64Mb out of nowhere!
AFAIK, the sticks should be compatible, because the RAM specifications appear to be the same for both the Old ASUS motherboard and the New K8T Neo - check out the specifications on the left-hand-side for each board.  However, clearly something is not right - it could be a compatibility issue, or is there something I'm missing?
All it says on the sticks of RAM is "256MB PC2100 DDR MEM" (plus "Made in Korea", of course  ), but crucial.com seems to be telling me that the RAM must be SDRAM, because that's all that would work in my old motherboard.  Is there some other configuration issue I've overlooked?
I've tried swapping the sticks around and taking some of them out - no change, either in the display or in overall performance.  I tried loading it with no RAM at all - didn't like that one bit!  I had a look through the BIOS (with the instruction manual close to hand), but nothing jumped out at me - and I really don't know what I'm looking for!
Really confused!    Any ideas what's going on? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Check with memtest86
    ...yeah...
...look on the bright side...when I tried PC2100 RAM with a Socket 754 CPU it wouldn't even POST...
...you might have to enter BIOS and configure the RAM manually rather than Auto...just a guess...

  • MOVED: K8T Neo-V with Win XP Pro, computer restarts instead of shut down?

This topic has been moved to AMD64 VIA/AMD/ATI based board.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=93812.0

I disabled Boot on LAN, disabled Wake-On-PME in BIOS, and checked my control panel power settings, but it still restarts instead of shut down.  I just got this motherboard and it started doing this ever since I installed it.  I did reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows after I installed the motherboard.  I'm trying to avoid opening the case again, I don't think I flipped the power switch and reset switch because when I push the reset button or use Start menu's restart, the computer still restarts.  I guess I'll double check it again...
for the "clear cmos and load defaults in the bios", this is a brand new motherboard, shouldn't it already have the default settings?  and what do I need to do to reinstall the mainboard's chipset drivers?
    Thanks!!
