Well using different sockets as described in the manual you can run single channel. However mixing RAM like that may prove too much for the CPU's memory controller to handle.

I've ordered some ECC memory so I guess i'll be using the two new sticks rather than all 4 when they arrive. Still that'll give me 2gb which is better than the 1gb I have today.
NOT GOOD! Must be REGISTERED-ECC, else it will not work either.

If one memory worked okey, let it be in. Keep things simple.
I'm wondering more if something happened during cleaning. Anything extraordinary you can remember?
Do all fans come up, for example?
Are all cables and wires connected properly?
I don't know who made the BIOS for your board, and it is too late right now, but this might be some bleeping beeping guidance: http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/index.htm I can say that the beeping tells me it is processor, memory, or motherboard that has problems.
Yes, well both of them work ok, but just not together..
No nothing, I even changed the power supply (that one just quit with working as well, antec isn't supposed to; Got a new one with warranty)
I think MSI did. The bleeping is of memory BUT only when I put 2 pieces of memory in.

  • K8T Neo2 $$$ spent on ram for nothing :( help please

:sigh: Any way I've upgraded from some generic DDR400 to a pair of Corsair Value Select Modules (their 1GB kit) now when I try to run this ram in dual channel mode (should work right their the same type) My computer won't boot just sits there. I've tried every singel memory combanation. Worse still the only way to make my computer boot is to have both modules in ram bank 1 and 2 but this makes them run in Single Channel mode and drops the speed to 333mhz  To say i'm angry would be an understatement since I've tried all day to get this stuff to work knowing that i've basically blow this money (the only money I had to upgrade) it's annoying since I could have just got a big stick of dumb generic ram and it would have been faster.
    [other specs
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (venice)

    ya ya ya.]
    ok so what to do
    (1) Would updating the Bios help on MSI's site it goes from AMI ver 3.3 to like 9.2 but I can only get 3.3 since live update will only detect that as the latest DOH [hell if someone thinks it's worth it I would try it manually]
    (2) is their any way to stop the ram from trying to go to dual channel so I could at least just run DDR400 single
    (3) did I buy a lemon of a Mobo and am I

Use Live update to actually create the Bios Flash Floppy. However do not let Live update start the flash after it makes the disk. Just stop at that point and then go here; http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=608&kind=1 to get the 9.1 Bios. Once you have it rename it to AMIBOOT.ROM and replace that file on the floppy with the one you just renamed.
Go into Bios, Set Optimized Defaults and make sure Boot Block Virus Protect is shut down. Then boot from the floppy and follow the directions. Once it flashes you can restart and set Bios back up. Then boot. Windows will reload some drivers and your golden. Then you move your RAM back to slots 2 and 4 and you will have dual channel.
One thing I do stress is that the very first operation you should do once you have flashed is to set optimized defaults in Bios as your very first operation. That does help your setup a bunch and makes sure you will have a smooth setup path from there.

  • [Solved] - K8T Neo2 / Sound: Realtek or VIA?

    Hi,
    I've made a clean XP SP2 install. on a motherboard K8T Neo2 (6702E ver.1)
    I've installed via4in1 and LAN,n then liveupdate.
It detects two differents sound chips: a realtek and a VIA AC'97.
If I install the realtek driver => no sound
If I install the VIA driver => the sound is there but the VIA 'manager' (vinyl audiodeck) is unable to change the configuration (I've only the mode two speakers)
If I install both drivers, I've the sound (Via drivers) and the Realtek manager allow me to change audio configuration
    Any information?
    Thanks

Do you have an url of the VIA audio drivers you are using? Or do you mean the VIA 4in1 drivers? The Realtek audio chip is a component added by MSI, not an imbedded feature of the chipset. So I find it very strange, if VIA would supply drivers for a component they do not produce. Is the audio chip enabled in your bios?
I'm talking of VIA AUDIO drivers; not the 4in1 (which are of course already installed). Audio is activated in bios (up to date).
We can found VIA audio drivers easily at VIAARENA => http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2
or .... using Liveupdate if it detects a VIA chip inside. LiveUpdate "needs" version 6.14.1.38.70
It needs also Realtek drivers v5.10.00.5760.
Liveupdate detecting two audio chips => this is this thing that is surprising.

I'm Assembling this new PC unit of mine, Changing My Asus Mobo into this MSI K8T Neo2.
With this New Unit I bought a brand New HDD SataI Seagate Baracuda 160gb 7200rpm.
Here are the problems that I encounter:
    1. Cannot Detect HDD.
But this issue has been already resolved, by Reinstalling New Windows.
    2. (CURRENT PROB) Turns into BLUE SCREEN.
It hasnt yet booted into windows.
Take note: SO i thought HDD is th prob. But When i tried to run the same HDD into another unit, it runs smoothly and NO BLUE SCREEN problem.
Here are the Specs of my Unit:
    CPU: AMD 64
    Mobo: K8T Neo2 V1.X G52-M6702E1
    Memory: 1gb Geil DDR400 PC 3200
    Video Card: 256mb FX5600
    HDD: 160gb Seagate Baracuda 7200rpm
    OS: Windows XP service Pack2
    PSU: 550watts HEC
    Thanks,

You could try a different drive but I thinks that Fred is right about 2 core processor and the bios update.
Went through similar problems with the K8t Neo2 but that has been over two years ago. I'm pretty sure a bios update fixed it.

  • MSI K8T Neo2 failures

    Hi,
I have bought an MSI K8T Neo2 motherboard a few weeks ago. It had stability problems from the beginning and there was one particular issue: Core Center was using 100% CPU when started, and its GUI would not appear. First I checked the memory modules, and one of the was indeed faulty. However, after replacing it, the stability problems continued. So I took the motherboard to the vendor, and it was found to be faulty by them and replaced. The new motherboard worked fine initially (Core Center was running properly and no stability problems), but after a day or so I experienced a crash and when trying, Core Center was again using 100% CPU and no GUI. So I suspect the motherboard has failed again. However, I find it a bit unlikely (though not impossible) that I would have two faulty motherboards in a row, so probably another component causes the motherboard to fail.
Based on the behaviour I described, what part of the motherboard may have failed? What other component may cause such a failure? What can I check to find the real reason for the failures? Can you recommend some diagnostics tool that can help finding the reasons for this kind of problems?
It should be noted, that I have performed no overclocking. The CPU is an Athlon64 3000+, the memory modules (2x512 MB) are Samsung DDR400. Another K8T Neo2 motherboard with CPU and memory of the same type and brand and from the same vendors works flawlessly. The other components in my machine are older and have worked reliably for at least months but in same cases years with another, older motherboard. I am using a 300Wt PSU, which may be low, but even if this is low, could it actually corrupt the motherboard permanently?
Another symptom: under Linux I use CPU frequency scaling, so that most of the time the CPU runs at 1GHz, and goes to 1.8GHz only when, e.g., compiling something. I noticed with the first mobo and then with the replacement after the first crash that it sometimes fails to set the frequency and then it wanders around 900MHz (betwen 800 and 1000 MHz, i.e. in quie a big range). It may be a problem with the Linux driver, though.
    Thanks,
    István

When a PSU's efficiency is too low, it can not deliver the demanded output. Higher temps make efficiency drop significantly. When a PSU can't deliver the demanded output, chances are it can not keep the voltages (3,3v / 5v / 12v) within safety margins. When a component is overvolted/undervolted for a longer period of time, it will be damaged.
Most of the time, your board will be damaged first. It delivers power mainly to the cpu, so the faulty board could damage the cpu due to overvolting it...
Look out for an Enermax or OCZ with 30+ amps on all rails, for example an Enermax Noisetaker 475W (double 12v rail) or an Enermax 465W (single 12v rail). Both have efficiency in the 75-80% range at all levels of output demand. It doesn't get any better than that. Those things are pricy, but so is the rest of your rig, so you don't want to damage your stuff any further.

  • K8t neo2 ver 2.0 pathetic 3dmark05 score, slow in microsoft FSX as well

Hi all; I have been struggling with my k8t neo2 ver 2.0 for months now with pathetic speeds compared to everyone elses postings. I will list my configuration as follows.
amd dualcore x2 4200+ overclocked to 2.42 ghz (220 FSB, any higher and I start rebooting)
PNY 7600 GS 512mb ram DDR over clocked to 542/301 (I did get a bit higher clock speeds, but saw no change)
2 gig of Gskill memory, darned if I recall its specs, but I bought medium/better quality memory. 2.5 wait state
In motherboard bios I set memory speed to 216
    motherboard bios version is 3.6
400 watt PSU  cant recall its brand, most likely generic.
I tried Nvidia 93.71 drivers,162.18 drivers and the latest Omega driver as well. None seem to make a heck of alot of difference.
using 3dmark 2000SE I get 18,000-19,500 benchmark. The lowest I have ever seen anyone else post was 24,000
using 3dmark 05 I get 1654 benchmark. The next lowest on the futuremark site was 3000 and most are 3000-9000 mark.
Finally in my actual flight sims and 3d games I seem to run FPS about 50% lower then everyone else lists.
Every place I read such as avsim or flightsim.com people with similar systems are running 40-60 FPS and I can barely make 22 FPS with exact same in game settings.
SO.... the bottom line is... What gives??
Are all these people stretching the truth?
3dmark05 says I do not have AGP fast writes enabled, or agp sideband addressing enabled, but motherboard supports it. I told Rivatuner to force these on. I have fastwrite enabled in the bios, but do not have any bios setting for sideband addressing.
I have 512 mb aperture size set in the bios as well. I read someplace to set this the same as the onboard video cars memory.
Now then. I dont give a rats a** whatT my 3dmark score is. my primary concern is FPS in my flight sims. However I used the 3dmark scores as a test to see where I compare to other systems like mine, and I came out way way below everyone else.
Any advice other than to into the wind, would be greatly appreciated.
    -Stampee

Due to assistance from others on other topics I posted, I determined that my via AGP driver was not installed. After a new XP repair I was able to install the via driver. My benchmark speeds doubled and my flight sim FPS doubled as well.
Now I just wish I had back all the hair I lost!

Yeah the k8t800 chips can overclock, but they're not as good as nf and you have to use some tricks to get stable clocks over ~2.4ghz. I was finally able to get ~2.6ghz stable at 1.55-1.6V. I won't go past 2.6ghz because of the excessive voltage and I run my crap on cheap stock air. plywood, they don't have a clockgen specifically for msi k8t neo2, but the Asus AV8 clockgen works perfectly: http://www.cpuid.org/download/CG/CG-ICS950405.zip
I've used it before for some xp ocing.
Thanks bud for the info, will try out the asus clockgen and see what's up.
My system is water cooled so no probs with voltage here.

  • Will this memory work on MSI K8T Neo2 Platinum?

    Hello,
Im planning upgrade to 64-bit athlon soon, so I would like to ask you, if my Corsair memory will work on MSI K8T Neo2 Platinum with AMD 3200+ 64-bit (90nm) procesor.

  • K8T Neo2 crashing and memory issues

I bought myself a new PC in late december and have started experiencing some problems with it
    Brief system specs:
    MSI K8T Neo2
    Athlon64 3200
    512Mb Samsung PC3200 DDR400
ATI All in wonder radeon 9800 pro
    LG DVD writer
    Windows XP SP-1
Antec SLK3700BQE case, which came with what I think is an Antec smartpower SL350 PSU
I had two sticks of memory (both the same type), but one of the sticks failed memtest badly so I sent it back and got a working replacement.  Both sticks would pass lengthy bouts of memtest on their own, but would fail occasionally if I put both in (It didn't seem to matter if it was in a DDR configuration or not, but I didn't test non DDR pairings as much).  I tried turning down the ram speed in the bios, but it didn't seem to help.  Any advice on getting this to work would be great.
A much more serious problem I'm having is crashing - The system will ocassionally shut itself down leaving the monitor without a signal.  Sometimes I can reset the system, others I have to switch off the power before the system will respond at all again.  In the past there was sometimes graphical corruption before the failure, although lately it has just been a black screen.  This happens most frequently when working with games using 3D graphics, although infrequently will happen when web browsing.  The crashing seems to have become more frequent lately, particularly since a local heat wave.  The problem may have become more pronounced when I bought the DVD writer to replace a very old CD-ROM, although its hard to judge because I replaced the bad memory stick at the same time.
According to core center the temperatures seem to run under 50 degrees, but the 12V volatage is listed at only 11.12 to 11.18.  Is my PSU the culprit here, or are these symptoms of a different problem?

Your PSU could well be the cause. Can you post its amps at 3,3v / 5v / 12v here? Antec PSU's usually do not have high efficiency (most likely 60-70%), so if the amps are already low and efficiency is too, my guess would be your PSU. It could seriously damage your board, cpu or vid card by the way...
Try solving the mem problem by raising the Vmem by 0.05v or by raising the latencies some (or both)....
