Hello!
Please say what PSU you got, and what it can do on the +12V.
You ask a good question, but I was thinking one of the sticks is not recognised for some reason. That would leave 2048 kB + 512 kB = 2560 kB. As for the OS part that is pretty close.
So make sure both sticks are in good order and seated well, by testing them one at a time. Make sure the memory has the recommended voltage, as by the manufacturer.
I have an Enermax Noisetaker II 480W with Dual Rail +12V SLi/Crossfire PSU

Turn on memory hole or memory remapping if you have one of those in the bios.
I've looked everywhere on the motherboard for such a function and there doesn't seem to be one. I tried using the overclocking feature once, and it just jams itself on the first try (boot/reboot forever). Maybe something wrong with the MB?

I've experienced the same problems as noted on other posts on this site regarding the X-fi sound card and 4gb of ram. Horrible crackling and popping...
?I am running Vista 64bit with 4 gigs of ram... I've tried getting my X-fi extreme music card to work to no avail. I've tried my old Audigy 2zs card that I had in another computer which seemed to work for a time, but then started blue screening... My question is this:? Is there a good sound card at this time that supports Vista 64 with 4gb ram?I don't want to settle for on-board audio as I play cpu intense games, and I don't want to settle for removing 2gb of ram to solve the issue. Any suggestions would be great!?Thanks,?">[email protected]?

Someone posted a while ago that they adjusted their Vista power settings and it fixed the problem. It was said that if you set it to the "high performance" setting it would solve some of the issues with the "popping" problem. My system has been set to high performance for a while and I have no issue with it and others have said this works for them.
The default power setting in Vista is "Balanced".

I have been having very similar issues with this board ever since they updated the MSI drivers in April.  MSI says it cant be a driver/MoBo issue cause everyone would be calling in about it.
I think they are completely wrong and have a driver package that isn't working correctly...but thats just my opinion.
Anyway, have you tried installing in RAID 1?
This did not change the final outcome for me and I am stuck to Native IDE till I can pay for the shipping to have my board replaced.  I spent way to long on the phone with agents blaming everything but the board (probably some new MSI policy cause they have never tried to pass this crap off on me b4), so I have tested everything else and still have dire issues when ever I am using a RAID set-up.
Question 2:  What PSU are you running?
Make sure you are not overworking your PSU, as from what MSI told me, this can cause numerous errors and set-up issues.
Well, I hope some of this helped.  Maybe it is a driver issue and just not enough people with this board have had to re-install since the new RAID driver was put up in April.  Again, I never had problem one before then!!!  Other than just basic help that is.

Hi all,
Ok so I said I'd report back once all working and here i am (touches wood  )
So my system is now Phenom less, I'm a bit gutted it's going back for RMA for refund. I have in the mean time replaced it with an x2 5000+ BE.
So just a recap on my spec
K9a2 Platinum
x2 5000+ BE Running stock 2.6Ghz
8GB OCZ DDR2 800 Platinum
2 x 3870x2 in crossfire X mode.
Windows Vista x64 OEM
This OS now installed no issues no BSOD for secondary clock interrupt. But i did have issues installing it on the Promise raid array. Though it was the old more than 2GB ram thing so did the install with one stick and then Patch vista install the other 6GB but no still got system rebooting after the progress bar 9 times out of 10.
So i have the HDDs on the standard SB600 sata ports as individual drives, installed x64 all 8GB still installed. Not knowing yet if it was driver related I let vista install all the drivers, the only other driver my system needed were the cat 8.3s and I only installed the graphics driver and CCC not the IDE or north bridge filter as the system is using vistas default drivers.
I have installed all updates and everything seems rock solid. (touches more wood!!) I have spent the last week relentlessly trying to get this OS installed,  but hey I learnt a few things along the way..
Paul
But now it is and I have my 8GB and crossfire X I'm happy and when the good Phenoms arrive I'll get one but I'll read all the reviews on the web first....
Hi,
Right then resurecting an oldish thread, I have just purchased a Phenom 9750 and installed with the new 1.4 bios, and all is well. The same Vista x64 install is rock solid and damn quick now.
Buy the B3 Phenoms with confidence they (AMD) have pulled back some ground and in my case some confidence.

Well, from what I understood in your post you want to crossfire two 3870 in a K9A Platinum. That's possible because it is a crossfire board and running two 3870 is just normal crossfire.
Spider or crossfire X is the able to run three or four vgas in triple/quad crossfire. That's of course not supported by K9A Plat. You would need a K9A2 Platinum which supports Crossfire X and has the necessary four PCIE Graphic slots.

• Vista x64 & 4gb+ with driver 2.15.0002 - 30th

The blue screen of death still strikes me with this new driver. I thought this update was going to fix the 4gb+ ram issue. It ruins the point of having a 64-bit OS if you can't run 4gb or more of ram without blue screens caused by the sound driver.

My 4GB issue fixed itself after I reinstalled Vista 64-bit a week or two ago.
I temporarily enabled software/hardware memory remapping to use 4GB in Linux and forgot to turn it off when I rebooted back into the clean Vista install. Sound continued to work fine and I forgot there was ever a problem until recently.
I did see an IRQ_(something) related BSOD on a secondary account when firing up Quicktime but I haven't been able to reproduce it on my main login; could have been the graphics driver for all I know. Plays movies/games just fine. Which is odd, because on the last install I couldn't even get the card to make any sound (except for a short crackled mess followed by permanent silence until the next reboot).

Thanks for the compliment.  This system cost me well over 4k.  You can see why I am not amused as to why I cannot play COD4.  HL2E2 was great.  What I have been teased with in COD4 is amazing.
Anyway, the BSOD's I get in Vista 64 are the atikmdag.sys not responding.  After a quick dump the system reboots.  I have forgotten about trying things in Vista.  Getting it to work in XP would make me very happy.  In XP and Vista, when launching COD4, the freeze is a complete system lockup at the logos and not a crash back to the desktop.  I have to manually reset the system.  I am not overclocking anything.  Although my Diamond Radeon 2900's are factory overclocked.  I have lowered the clocks for the gpu and memory for both cards and still the same freezing persists when lanuching COD4.  During my stripdown and rebuild, I have tried COD4 with no sound card and the onboard sound disabled in BIOS from a fresh XP install.  No luck.  I havent used CoreCenter or LiveUpdate in a long time.  I manually download the chipset files from the MSI site, unzip and install them.  I have tried the drivers included with the motherboard, video cards, ATI site, MSI site all to no avail.  I have tried the CCC drivers all the way back to 7.10.  I just cannot get COD4 to launch anymore.

EDIT: Just so you know, MSI don't go for bleeding edge. MSI go for the server and OEM market, where there is more money to be had. Asus, Gigabyte and DFI target the ethusiast market. But as ethusiasts only make up <5% of the market, your opinion won't sway that many.
Yes, you're right! Like any customer here I'm no one and nobody gives a  about my opnion and my money wasted on a MSI product because the company only gives a  on OEM market!
Wonderful tought! God bless you soul and from MSI.
I'll need it because only money it's the important, the company image not. Isn't that right?

But as for the rest, it's down to your opinion. I recommend all my customers MSI hardware, because you get quality support (this forum) and a fast & friendly RMA service.
A company is as good as it's support.
Wonderful support.
I imagine if I am a president of a big brazilian PC manufacturer, because the sells of computers in Brazil in that year beats any market in world, and then I see all this bullshit happening from MSI side, then I turn my attention on Gigabyte or Asus (they too act on OEM market and give more attention to your customers).

It started off when it recognised my memory at 800Mhz when infact it was 1066 DDR2 Dominator.
Your memory modules are recognized as DDR2-800 modules, because the SPD-Chips of these modules do not have an SPD-Profile for DDR2-1066 which the BIOS could detect to set memory clock speed to DDR2-1066.  Your modules present themselves as DDR2-800 modules to the BIOS (because they are basically DDR2-800 modules).  The BIOS can only read SPD profiles, not what Corsair has actually printed onto sticker that is on each module.

4gb DDR2 1066 (not sure if it infact does run at this)
If you check the official Corsair datasheet for your modules, you will see that it will say that these modules were tested @1066 MHz @2.1-2.2V, not that they are DDR2-1066 modules.  At the bottom of the datesheet you will find a brief note telling you that the actual OC results "may vary".  I am not sure which memory related settings you have tried so far. If you need advice and suggestions regarding memory settings, please let us know the precise model name/number of your modules and tell us which settings you have tried so far.

I tried those steps and still no dice.  It seems that the existence of the video card is not recognized by windows, the nvidia driver download website, or the latest correct nvidia drivers once I download and install them.  If this is a problem with windows being unhappy, would it be advisable for me to try a fresh installation of windows on my second hard drive and see if I can get it to recognize the card?
Yes, do a fresh new OS installation in such case.

if you are OC, use/select "overclocking" HT setting. if you use stock parameters use "standard" HT setting.
"Also my 1T/2T option is greyed out, how do i change it?"
should be able to change it, you may need to apply memory config to manually 1st.(parrent menu)
"Lastly, how can i run 2 HDD's on raid and another non-raid."
enable raid(from BIOS) for channels where are connected your 2HDD which gonna be part of the RAID, then create an array(from RAID utility just after bios post), pickup desired RAID mode and assign your 2 HDDs(don't forget to make them active(bootable, with "B" key at the end of process).
for 3th drive, just use it like regular drive, disable RAID for the channel where it is connected.
