MOVED: K9A2 Platinum ACPI errors after resume

This topic has been moved to Vista problems.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=114100.0

You're welcome!
I had same problem with my old build; same RX1950 card but with K8NGM2-FID board. I think I may have updated the Catalyst drivers after I gave up trying to get standby to work, but it works flawlessly now in this new K9A2 Platinum system I have. Just to note, I rebuilt my brother's K7N2 Delta2 system with the old K8NGM2-FID board, and resume from standby works fine there too. So it could well have just been a driver issue.

  • K9A2 Platinum - ColdBoot and S3 Resume Lockups

    I have basically 2 Problems with my K9A2 Platinum. Beside those, my system runs very fine.
    1) Randomly when cold booting, the PC freezes, before getting even to the MSI full screen logo. Using the reset button works and lets the PC boot just fine. The screens just stay blank and in Standby mode, there are no beeps or whatsoever
    2) Randomly from resuming from S3 Mode, it will lockup, too. Screens stay blank and I have to reset the PC.
    I also noticed that the ODDs are taking very long to be detected. Sometimes longer than at other times. In another forum someone mentioned having a similar problem and he fixed it by disconnecting all of his IDE optical disc drives.
    I also tried to flash BIOS v1.2 but it didn't help, plus I got a worse performing system due to the TLB Bug-Fix for the Phenom.
    Any ideas!?

    Do you use system stock settings?
    Have you done Clear CMOS with power cord removed?
    Do a memory check with Memtest86
    Do you have any USB device attached?
    Nothing is overclocked, all stock settings.
    I have done various CMOS clears, tried Optimized, Fail Safe BIOS Settings. Tried various custom settings. Raised Memory Voltage to 1.9V (Default 1.8V according to Team)
    I have connected a USB mouse and a multi card reader directly to the board. Connected via a USB HUB is a scanner, external HDD, USB keyboard (actually the wireless stick for the keyboard). Via another USB theres a gamepad and a Joystick connected. Both Hubs and the external HDD have their own power supplys.

    Two other ideas:
    - PSU isn't enough from cold.
    - You didn't do a reinstallation of Windows after a major hardware change, like motherboard or processor.
    The PSU is brand new, I bought it, because I had the same idea. Had the same problems with my old Enermax 460 Watt PSU
    Under Windows there's everything just fine. As I said, whenever it comes on correctly, everything is just fine. No unstable system or whatsoever.

    Check IDE devices for properly jumper configuration.(disconnect them one by one if its necessary)
    Try without maxtor drive too.
    I will try that, tomorrow/later this day. But shouldn't they don't even get recognized when not correctly jumpered!? I can burn DVDs/CDs without problems (LG) and play games/watch DVDs without problems (Samsung)
    I'm downloading memtest86+ at the moment to check the ram.
    /*Edit:
    IDE optical drives are correctly jumpered as Master respectively Slave.

  • Bus/io errors after resume from suspend to ram

    Something very strange happened today. When I woke my computer out of suspend today, the BIOS made a bad beep sound (once, high pitched, the error kind of), but booted anyways.
    After starting up, I tried starting programs like sonata, gnome-mplayer, but both failed with either an "io error" or "bus error". Strangly, I also tested "df" an it worked.
    That happened the first time, but I'm worried it's gonna happen again, because I have NO idea what could have failed.
    pm-suspend log looks fine
    Initial commandline parameters:

    Any other useful log files to check out?
    I just put the system to sleep and woke it up again, no problem. I only notice that yesterday it took way longer than usual to go into sleep mode. Except for funky graphic patterns, all worked flawlessy now.
    What could cause bus and io errors after wakeup?

    Yes, im using systemd. I tried also downgrading xf86-video-intel to a version from some weeks ago, with no result.
    PS: no difference between systemclt suspend or pm-suspend from comand line.ùù
    PS2: I tried fluxbox session and there was no flickering, so it had to be something kde-session related, and I found it: it was the image pile xscreensaver, just switching to another one solved my problem.
    Thanks for your interest, wonderwoofy!
    Update: nothing solved, it was just temporarly by case... same issue as before...

  • Suspend almost working, input/output error after resume

    Hi,
    I have gotten suspend to ram almost working on my sony vaio sz 28 laptop. It resumes properly and I can use the terminal to list files for a while, but I cannot launch any programs, I get "input output error" It's like the machine cannot do anything new that wasn't started before the suspend. After a while some programs quits (nm-manager), because of I/O error, and then shutdown won't even finish. At first I tought the hard drive didn't work, but since I can list files in the terminal, that shouldn't be the problem.
    Any ideas ?
    My /etc/powersave/sleep contains
    UNLOAD_MODULES_BEFORE_SUSPEND2RAM="prism54 ipw3945 i810 sky2 ath_pci "
    and
    SUSPEND2RAM_RESTART_SERVICES="ipw3945d networkcpufreq"
    thanks,
    Steinar

    I am running powersaved on a vaio c2z laptop with this config. Maybe it helps.
    UNLOAD_MODULES_BEFORE_SUSPEND2RAM=""
    SUSPEND2RAM_RESTART_SERVICES=""
    SUSPEND2RAM_SWITCH_VT="yes"
    Also you dont need to run the cpufreq service powersaved and the acpid can do this too. I disabled all of them and let the kernel
    handel my cpufreq. The only thing iam doing is to tell the system on startup which govenour it should use by default, for me thats "conservative".
    #!/bin/bash
    # /etc/rc.local: Local multi-user startup script.
    cpufreq-set -c 0 -g conservative
    cpufreq-set -c 1 -g conservative
    If i need another one i can adjust that via the terminal (cpufreq-set or via direct echo in /sys) or gnomes cpufreq applet.
    For using the kernel handler correctly you have modify these entries
    1. in /etc/powersave/cpufreq to prevent powersaved from setting cpufreq.
    CPUFREQ_ENABLED="no"
    2. in /etc/acpi/handlers.sh to prevent acpid from setting corespeed back to kernels default govenour (mostly performance) after returning from suspend.

    I was just wondering if anyone has any info if MSI will make a more robust bios after 1.5 that will support overclocking of CPU voltages. As it is I can only get 2.8 GHZ on my phenom 9850  because of the inability to up CPU voltages.My friend has the newest ASUS board which has a much better bios and he's been able to overclock his 9850 to 3.36 stable with almost identical hardware to mine.
    If you are refering to the newest 790GX boards: they will simply overclock the CPU higher than a 790FX board will, because of the ACC (Advanced Clock Calibration) function of the new SB750 southbridge. Not really a matter of BIOS options, but a matter of a newer chipset...
    You would probably match the results of the new ASUS board using the new MSI board, the DKA790GX Platinum for example...

    Firstly thanks for the quick reply!
    In my experience PCI-E speeds effect stability, sometimes raising just past 100MHz actually increases stability.
    AMD OverDrive seems to have a few limits (unless its user error) whereby it limits the voltage I can use, max of 1.35 which isn't enough. I take it the OverDrive does allow me to alter HT speeds however?
    Is that bios tested? If I flash and it fails do I have the option to flash back to the old one? I.e. I don't want to kill my mobo! :D
    Thanks in advance.
    " I take it the OverDrive does allow me to alter HT speeds however?"
    simply install it and go and see

    maybe yes, maybe no.. BIOS flashing is always risky, if you decide to use it do it at own risk.
    else just be patient and wait for official version.

    Alright, I got the rest of my stuff listed. I don't think there's anything wrong with the memory because it's perfectly fine running at 800mhz when the FSB is 400, and I tested it not too long ago when building the system for my q6600. As for the slots, I have tried slots 1&3, slots 2&4, and all slots full with roughly the same results.
    Now that I think about it, it's more likely the board causing me to FAIL than the memory itself. There's no reason the memory should have problems running at 800 or below regardless of what I have the FSB set at. I did stumble across a post saying that this board doesn't like memory not on the compatibility list when overclocking, and I don't think the patriot is on the list. Any ideas on if corsair dominator could run on this board at its rated 1066 speed? Also, do you still think I should update from the p04 bios?

    Enter SafeMode and DeviceManager. What relevant mouse(s) and possibly HID-devices do you find?
    The skipping mouse can come from an auto-starting program or virus. That is something that would not be seen in SafeMode, too.

    No, that is not what I said. VistaX64 supports a lot of memory. Remember you have also a lot of memory on the video card. Your configuration might not, if the combination of the four sticks - of two different models - makes the system freeze.
    Mixing memory is never good because it makes things harder for the processor (and it's memory controller).
    You could still try reducing the speed of the memory, and/or increase the memory voltage a little bit.
    I have 4 same memory moduls. I didn't mix modules. I just say, that same happens with my OLD 4 memory moduls(worked fine in my old motherboard Asus m2n-e sli), and with my new 4(exact same) modules.
    Memory is on default speed....btw. These memory modules are DDR2-1066, but running on 800. Where should I lower speed more?

    Yes of course you can if your board supports 8GB. 32bit OS is restricted to just under 4GB.
    But that should not stop you from being able to run multiple 32bit applications simultaneously. Each app just cannot address more than 4GB.
    and as far as that memory goes, in a 2 X 2GB set up you should be able to run it at 1066 if you want.
    In a 8GB setup, 800 would be the more stable option.

    I would probably consider not being able to turn the TLB errata fix off a problem. Going from the original BIOS (v1.0 I think) to 1.3 lowered my computers performance by about 10%ish. This includes FPS in games and all 3DMark scores.
    Now it could be something totally different causing the lowered performance as I do not know when MSI added the "fix". I never run virtualization programs so the fix does only harm in terms of performance.
    I did ask MSI about the posibility to disable TLB fix in BIOS and this what they answered:

  • OpenGL games fps going down after install Windows on RAID 0 on K9A2 Platinum

    Hello .
    Description of problem :
    The problem was showed right after installations Windows on RAID 0.
    When I had one HDD, the problem was not.
    The problem was showed on both integrated RAID controllers (both on SB600 and on Promise T3).
    When I play games (just games in OpenGL!!! for example conter-strike 1.6, Quake3, on Direct3D such problem is not present), and simultaneously I copy (or other users on FTP:)) a plenty of small files, game frames per second going down.
    If to stop copying in current of minute, frames per seconds goung up.
    If in 2-3 minutes, will help only restart game.
    Processor type: "AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (Brisbane)"
    Motherboard: "MSI K9A2 Platinum, AMD® 790FX and SB600 (+ Promise T3) Chipset,  AMI BIOS v1.3"
    RAM: "Samsung 1GB 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC"
    HDD: 2x in RAID 0: "Samsung HD501LJ 500GB 7200rpm 16MB with NCQ Serial ATA II-300"
    Video: "XpertVision NVidia 8800GT 512Mb"
    Power supply: "FSP ATX-400PNR 400W ATX 12V v 2.01 20+4 pin passive PFC 12cm fan Noise Killer"
    Operating System:
    Windows 2003 server 32bit
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    I have established last version Dual Core Optimizer.
    Tried to clean in boot.ini a key /usepmtimer and reboot has helped nothing.
    The similar problem was on absolutely another motherboard (Biostar nForce570SLI) and hdd (Hitachi 80GB) with the same processor and Windows. But , installation Dual Сore Optimizer and a key/userpmtimer has helped.
    What reasons of a problem?
    How to eliminate a problem?
    In advance thanks for the answer.

    Oops, missed the PSU....

    But why when copying to stop in 3-4 minutes, game fps not going up.
    In fact after copying files system resources are not used, also reading and writing from a disk does not occur.
    I understand that at copying Soft-RAID use some system resources. But when system resources not use game fps not going up.
    Will help only restart game!!!

    See that? You went from single disk to RAID and then the problem started...... I guess it's not very hard to conclude that one is related to the other. Just try to use single disk again an and see what happens.
    Then: did you have two disks installed before going to RAID-0? Or did you add one disk for that? If so, then your PSU may be the troublemaker, not providing enough juice to feed all devices.
    About your English: it is fine, don't worry. We do not mind, as long as it looks like English and we can understand it and as long as there's no MSN-crap in it... so, you are doing fine.
