MOVED: K9AG Neo2-Digital - Vista Cool 'n Quiet Doesn't Work

This topic has been moved to Vista problems.

Hold fire m8
I'm in the same boat.  I have the Neo2 with 3200 Venice and after applying all correct settings it doesn't work.  CnQ is not yet working with the Venice or San Diego chips.  There should be a new official BIOS update coming out any day that will rectify it, or if you're impatient you could try the 1.9 build 5 (Beta) that enables CnQ to work with Venice chips.
I would personally recommend waiting for the official update though, because you take your MB's life into your own hands with a Beta.
Here is a CnQ FAQ outlining the correct steps to take in setting up CnQ (steps you've already taken!)

  • K9AG Neo2-DIgital: AMI BIOS v1.7 has no AHCI setting

    Hi folks,
I recently upgraded my K9AG Neo2-Digital AMI BIOS from its original version (I don't remember what exactly) to v1.7 (the latest available on the MSI website).  Before the upgrade I had three choices for the SATA mode: IDE, ACHI, and RAID.  Now the setting is called "RAID Mode" and the only choices are: IDE, RAID.
What happened to the AHCI setting?  I've been doing a lot of reading lately, and there doesn't seem to be a shortage of people having problems with AHCI and this board.  Perhaps the latest BIOS simply disables it because of issues?
Anyway, it's a bit of a bummer because I finally got the latest Vista x64 AHCI drivers from both Microsoft (msahci.sys) and MSI (ahcix64s.sys) slipstreamed into my Vista setup DVD so I could try to do a repair install and get Vista to work in AHCI mode.  I had originally installed it in IDE mode, and thought, hey why not try AHCI (or RAID in the future).  Now I can't even choose AHCI mode in the BIOS.  The original Vista install DVD wouldn't even load if I enabled AHCI in the BIOS - presumably due to the older msahci.sys drivers not supporting the SB600 at all.
I tried RAID mode, and the RAID BIOS detected my existing Vista drive as 1+0 JBOD, and the Vista install DVD detected the Vista installation on the drive (after loading the ahcix64s.sys driver), but I don't see any Vista repair installation option.  This is off topic, but is there even such a thing in Vista?  I know XP has a repair install that will fix the OS but leave all your apps and settings in tact.
I get the feeling that Vista and AHCI/RAID were just never meant to work with the SB600 :(
    Any thoughts?

  • Does the K9AG Neo2-Digital supports AMD's virtualization extensions ?

I want to build a home server based on the K9AG Neo2-Digital.
This machine should run several XEN Vitual Hardware Machines.
For this I need a BIOS that supports the AMD's virtualization extensions AMD-V (a.k.a.  Pacifica, SVM).
    Thanks
    Martin

CPU hardware virtualization only got really worthwhile with Nested Pages in Barcelona (and with ESX 3.5)
If not Barcelona then I would not depend the choice of a motherboard based on CPU hardware virtualization support.
Up till Barcelona CPU hardware virtualization is actually slower. It's not. ESX in Workstation shows great impovement WITH AMD-V.
When more budget is available see if there's a Xen compatiblity list like with ESX. And base your choices around that.
BTW Running ESX 3.0.2 on "cheap" HP ML115 (DC Opteron) bought @ebay for about 250Euro.
    With 200Euro upgrade to 6GB Kingoston DDR2-800 non-ECC it's running 6VM's including Exchange2007
I ran XenServer yesterday on the ML115 and runs great out of the box
    Edit: 2 mofifications

  • K9AG Neo2 Digital and USB

    System specs:
    AMD 64 X2 6000 (125w)
    K9AG Neo2 Digital (bios 1.5)
    2x Kingston 1G DDR2 667
    MSI Ge force 7800GT
    Western Digital 500GB IDE HD
    Windows XP Home SP2
    Thermaltake 700w PSU
Please excuse any naivety on my part.  I recently purchased the CPU/mainboard mentioned above and am not able to install USB 2.0 from the included CD.  All other drivers (ATI installed first) installed with no problem.  This was a clean install of Windows XP SP1 with SP2 installed immediately after.  BIOS indicates that USB is enabled.  I've tried uninstalling the USB drivers with no change after reboot.  With that, I'm at the end of my comfort zone for any other proceedings and come to the forum for help.  In searching the forums, I found this post https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112724.0 which I tried to emulate and failed.  I'd appreciate further insight and assistance.  I have another question as well.  The CPU/board was purchased locally at a point when I didn't have access to review or investigate the products on line.  I was told the 6000 125w would work with no problems with the K9AG Neo2 board.  Is this the case and am I risking damage to system?  Thanks for your time.

The 125w version of AMD X2 cpus should not be used with your motherboard.  These cpus overload the power regulation circuit on the motherboard and can cause the motherboard's power regulation circuit to fail.  This may be the cause of the USB problem since the USB controller draws power from the motherboard to run any USB devices.
Check this link for supported cpu.
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodcpusupport&prod_no=1241&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=171&cat3_no=#menu
IMHO, exchange your cpu for the 89w version and see if that cures your problem.

  • K9AG Neo2 Digital - power but no post 7750+(BE)

Having a problem with my K9AG Neo2 Digital, Tried booting up after my system build and nothing happens. Power comes on but there is no one home, fans spin but screen does not turn on and no beeps of any kind.

It means that has BIOS ver. 1.50, you need 1.70 or above with this CPU.

Nop, install supported CPU[borrow from friends] by current BIOS version and update the BIOS.
Or send mainboard back to reseller to update the BIOS for you

  • Cool N Quiet still not working

Athlon 64 3000 (and standard cooler)
    MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R
    1x512Mb Corsair XMS3200LLPT
2xSamsung SP0812C 80Gb SATA (connected to promise controller)
    Zalman 400W PSU
    Samsung SM552-B DVD/CR-RW
    Windows XP + SP1
I've upgraded the BIOS to 1.1 and activated the cool n quiet mode. I've also downloaded the AMD driver (1.1.0.0) and installed that.
The CPU still runs at full speed. Have I missed something, or is it just pot luck whether this works or not?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    Neil Urwin.

I just flashed to 1.2 and stilll no CnQ.
From other  posts I'm wondering if the problem is related to one or both of:
Win2K + Athlon 64 3000+.  That's what I have and others with trouble seem to
have the same. I tried reloading the AMD drivers, removing CoreCenter
and  the only thing that works ever is the fan speed control. I never get the
extra folder in power options under control panel.  Maybe since the Win2K
AMD driver is so old it doesnt detect the cPU properly and therfore doesnt start up?
I may still switch the CPU fan over to the Zalman CuAl since the retail AMD fan has a loud hum at 2500-3000RPM. But the reduced wattage and heat is worth trying to get if possible.
I already ordered more RAM and WinXP Pro from newegg so I guess I can see
if its the OS level/AMD drivers also fix the problem.
Overall I'm happy with the board. Its stable under Linux (RH 9.0) and Win2K under prime95 tests for hours. Haven't had time to try day long tests. Certainly stable under hours of BF1942.
For those of you hyper about RAM settings checkout the Ace' s hardware test.
I'm a bit suprised that it matters so little for the Athlon 64 but it's nice to hear.
Though I'm always amazed at people paying huge sums for better RAM for meager performance improvements- especially on real world programs and games.
    http://www.aceshardware.com/read.jsp?id=60000306
AMD64 versions of RH Fedora Yarrow test failed to detect I had a graphics card.
Wierd since /proc seems fine.  Anyone have a favorite AMD64 linux distro that works well installed from CDROM or ftp?  I may just wait- little to gain at the moment suffering through beta quality software/OS.

  • Cool n Quiet only half works

    Hey
I just got cool and quiet to work after installing the amd drivers, but the fan speed won't go down while it's at 800mhz.  Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt that one of the cool n quiet features, the automatic adjusting of cpu fan?  Any ideas?
    thanks

I have three boards here, the Giga K8NPro no cool & quiet...the Asus K8V cool & quiet plus smart fan = no fan rotation at all for 90% of the time, so a fully silent system, bit scary but it works well. The MSI which has cool & quiet and is a better board overall, but the fan control does not seem to work.

Some AGP VGA's are picky when they need works @x8, tips to solve the issue:
    * Disable AGP Fastwrite {If N/A in BIOS, can be forced off by VGA drivers, or Rivatuner}
    * Switch to AGP x4 {If option is N/A in BIOS, you can use Rivatuner http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 /* By strap driver */}
    * Disable AGP 3.0 Calibration Cycle
    * Disable AGP Sideband Addressing
    * Disable AGP Master 1 WS Read/Write
    * Update to the latest AGP Gart driver

  • K9AG Neo2-Digital Dead? Not Posting but all powered up

    Hmm.
have just plugged back in my machine after decorating my flat, Vista fired up and went to desktop, I went in the kitchen to grab a drink, came back, and the monitor is on powersaving mode as if it blanked out for the screensaver. Wiggled the mouse, nothing. Hit some keys, nothing. Pressed the power button, nothing. Held the power button down for an eternity - didnt even shut down. No HDD activity, but all fans whirring away and seemingly 'on'.
    Spec:
    600W OCZ PSU
    XFX 260GTX GFX
    4x 1GB 633mhz DDR2
    Phenom II 945 x 4 CPU
    Vista 32 Bit
Now, the only way to shut down my pc was to turn the power off from the PSU. I switched back on. No post screen, nothing on the display. Sat in sleep mode. However, all fans on, DVD-R light gives a flash, HDD spins up, but no HDD light, nothing. Again, only way to turn off was to turn the PSU off.
So I go about taking the components out, cleaning, reseating, even took the CPU out and replaced with my original Athlon x 2. Still nothing.
Anyway, I'm at a loss. Im guessing the motherboard must be fried? Is there anything I can do without having to take it to a specialist to charge me the same money as a new mobo will cost me?

Is your CPU the 95W or 125W version?
I suspect that CPU VRM MOSFET(s) may be fried. None of the 125W AM2/AM2+ were supported and then along comes AM3 and they show support for those 125W CPU's. Doesn't make a bit of sense to me, I've seen it on other similar MB's also. Look at the MOSFET's to the left of the CPU and see if any look overheated or burned.
This is a different MB but is an example of what to look for:

  • K9Ag Neo2-Digital--) HDMI doesn't work nor sound!!

Hi there!! I thought I posted a message about 2 hours ago.  However, it seems to have disappeared.  My apologies if I found the wrong forum for my Motherboard.
I wonder if anyone had any advice about my above mentioned motherboard.
I cleanly installed Windows XP SP3 recently and the audio card won't install, though it does work on another, older windows installation which didn't have the SP packs built in.
The second issue is the dual video inputs don't seem to work.  I've tried both the DVI out and the HDMI out to my HD Viewsonic TV.
Any tips?  If this is the wrong forum, could you please direct to the right one??
    thanks!

Hi there!! I just had an interesting idea and I wonder if this solve the Realtek Audio problem.
As I stated above, i have two XP instalations on one computer in two different partitions.  One of them was an older build which i manually upgraded to sp3.  On this version the audio installed properly.  On the second XP, SP3 pack was built in, however, the realtek audio won't instal, no matter how hard i try.
The idea I have is, is it possible to copy part of the windows files, possibly, the system 32 files and paste them into the Windows folder?
Do you think anything like that might work?
    thanks

  • Cool-n-Quiet won't work w/ Semp 3100+ & K8T Neo FIS2R

Hey all, just picked up a new OEM sempron 3100+, Refurb MSI K8T NEO-FI2R, Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 and Thermaltake SilentBoost.
    - Updated Bios to latest 1.9x Beta, enabled Q-n-C in Bios
    - Installed XP-SP1 fresh on 80GB SATA drive
    - Updated processor driver to AMD 1.1.0.14 from AMD sempron site
    - Set power management to "Minimal Power Management"
    - Installed AMD PowerNow! Desktop
After rebooting, processor speed does not change at all, stays at 1800.
PowerNow! Desktop refuses to load, giving me some sort of table errors.
    Verified CPU speed via CPU-Z
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have a k8tneo-fsr main board (amd athlon64 3200) with W2000. I have very successfully used a program from WWW.AMD.COM called Powernow. The site says this is for mobile units only, but it works on my desktop. It's purpose is to save battery power on desktops. Powernow dynamically overclocks (and underclocks) very well. When at idle the board runs at around 1000mhz (underclocked), with 3d games it runs from around 2300 - 4000, and I have seen it go very! breifly to around 5500mhz. I monitor this with Corecenter. Setting a minimum OC value in the bios has no ill effect on Powernow. Powernow loads when you boot. If I disable Powernow, the system always runs at the speed specified in the bios only - no over/underclocking. I use the OEM coolerand the CPU always remains sufficiently cool.biggthumbsup

  • TA23205 moved iwork folder to applications and now iwork doesn't work

My iwork is not moving as I stupidly moved the folder to the desktop. I moved it back to download where it was but still nothing. Neith Pages or keynote work.
How do I get it back.
Can I simply restore my computer to the a time before I moved the folder?

Delete all traces of iWork and reinstall using the original install disc or install from the App Store depending how you purchased iWork originally.

  • Windows Vista 32-bit, Itunes doesn't work.

  • Re: Cool Edit Pro doesn't work on my Satellite L Series

As suggested by Tech Support, I have downloaded new drivers from Realtek, hoping to fix the Windows 7 problem (a device id has been used that is out of range for your system).
Nothing seems to work. Can anyone suggest a fix?
    Don

Toshiba doesnt support third part applications so if you have some problem talk with manufacturer support.
If you use original drivers from Toshiba they are definitely OK and all are tested including sound driver.
Im afraid there must be some other problem.
Thanks Jeka for doing this test.

Are you using CoreCenter to overclock? What version is your BIOS? Post system specs.
Quote from: tahuru on 25-May-05, 14:24:45
the overclocking is done solely in bios.
Anyway, there seems to be different problems relating to waking up from sleep, I know that Cool'n'Quiet would stop working when I would wake up from sleep. I'll try overclocking mine a bit and I'll get back to you.
Also, check that the Save/Clear CMOS jumper is in the right position.
