I moved my My Tunes folder to an external drive, but after "Add Folder to Library" action, all my playlists are missing. Where can I find playlists and how do I re-establish them?

I asked because a playlist is ONLY a list of songs.
A playlist itself does not contain any songs.

Moved library - how to correct file locations in playlists

I copied my library off my HD to an external HD because the library is pretty large, about 120gb. I have all my music in playlists, and I back up my playlist library regularly just to be safe. I have not deleted my original library off my HD just yet to be safe that everything made it over.
My question is: My playlists still show all my songs as located on my internal HD. How do I get them all updated to show that the files are located on the external HD instead? I want to delete the original library off the internal HD to make more space. I changed the library location in the Settings -> Advanced tab under Preferences and iTunes now recognizes that that is where the library is.
I tested all of this by deleting a song from a playlist in its folder on the internal HD to see if iTunes would relocate it on the external HD. It did not. It prompted me to locate it instead.
I tried importing my library again, thinking that might fix it. Instead, all my playlists are now duplicated. And the songs in both versions of any playlists both still show the songs as being on the original internal HD, not the external.

Traditionally, if you want your download to go to a different folder than the default folder you would control-click on the link in Safari and select something like "Download Linked File As..."
Some websites are written in such a way as to disable that functionality.

Moved Library to External HD - No Playlists in itunes now

I have moved my itune library to an external hard drive. itunes finds the music. It plays the music and updates the ipod.
I do not have my playlists. I have tried to use consolidate library in itunes. Still no playlists.
Is there a way to move the playlist over to the new HD.
Where are playlists stored? What file do I need to move? Can this be done manually?

Did you let iTunes move your music or did you do it yourself?

My recommendation is to backup the library to an external drive with the method in this User Tip, and then use the same tool to restore the backup onto the new computer. Thereafter you would backup your library on a regular basis to ensure against disaster.

Select the shows in your TV Shows library. You can select several adjacent shows at once by holding the shift key. If they are not adjacent, hold the command key and click on each. Open the Multiple Item Info window (File menu > Get Info or type commamd + I). Select the "Options" tab. Check media kind and use the adjacent menu to select Movie. Cloick "OK" to save your changes. The shows should automatically move to the Movies library.

In my Itunes Library, how do I move a song from Music to Tones so I can make it my ringtone on my iphone

Right mouse click the song in music library you want to create ringtone and choose “Get Info”
Choose “Option” Tab, Check “Start Time” & Stop Time” of the track you want to make into ringtone and put in your start time and end time (Max 40 secs duration), then click OK
Right mouse click the mp3 again and choose “Create AAC Version”
You will see a copy of song with same name appeared but with 40sec duration only. Now drag the song onto your desktop and you will see the name is now xxxxxx.m4a.
Change the file extension m4a into m4r from the desktop
Delete the 40sec m4a file from the music library (You must do this step or Itune will not accept your new m4r file).
*Important - Now uncheck the start & stop time of the original song so that you can play back full length.
Now, drag the m4r file from desktop to Library
Click onto the Tones under Library, and you find you ringone file.
Note: Just in case you cannot "Create AAC version" from Step 3, go to top menu, click "Edit", "Preference". Under "general" Tab, click "Import Settings", make sure under Import Using that "AAC Encoder" is selected.

She can choose to either enable the setting on her iPod to Manually manage music and videos. With setting enabled she can sync content to her iPod from multiple computers without it affecting whats already stored her iPod. I just changed the OS from Vista to Windows7. I have a folder on the same computer with the old iTunes library. I installed a new version of iTunes from scratch. How do I move my music library, etc from that backed up folder into the new iTunes folder.

During the process it copied my iTunes library to a folder on this same computer (marked it Windows.old)
Once the OS was done, I installed a new copy of iTunes on the Windows7 but it now has a blank library (folder)
How do I move my music from its current folder location (on this same computer) into the new iTunes library folder ???
There don't seem to be specific instructions on how to do this.

I don't have the option to file>library>import anything. The only thing that transfers, even on home sharing is purchased music. No music loaded from CD's and no playlists.
