Thanks for the explanation. At present it has one problem: I can not describe the fan curve.
My requirements are that when watching a movie and surfing the internet fan will be set to a minimum and starts working as soon as the temperature is approaching dangerous levels for HW compomnents. Are you able to simulate such a curve, or edit, if it was not satisfactory?
What is your current EC version? look in bios setup system info

  • Msi Ge70 onc fan always running.

I bought the MSI GE70 ONC gaming laptop on laptopsdirect.co.uk
Laptop came in original package. I was happy.. until I started it.
From first use laptop was very noisy. Fan is working with high speed even when during typing emails or preforming simple tasks.
The fan is always running on 100% efficiency even when I start up the laptop. It doesn't want to stop unless I wait for about 40 mins without preforming any task on the computer.
This is really annoying. I never had an issue like that before.
I am dissapointed with this laptop. I understand that if I run high demanding software the fan will work loudly, but not during web surfing.
Otherwise the laptop is great. I mainly bought this laptop for video edition and I expected better quality for 977 euros I paid for this laptop.
I also have a video on how the fan is working, here is the link below.
    tinypic(dot com)/r/2mh7sy1/6
Should the fan be working like this?
If this isnt normal what should I do?
I also rang msi and a woman said to email msi about this but I send msi 2 emails and they didnt respond ;(

When I turn on the laptop the fan goes to 100% and after about 30 mins the laptop's fanstop.
When I launch not heavy applications like internet explorer or wordpad the fan turns on for 20 seconds and stops.
I even had a case when I right clicked on the desktop the fan started working.
No affence but i could just pay 50€ and buy another laptop.
About 1 month ago I had problems with windows 8 and had to reinstall windows twice. ;(

    S-Bar 2.0 .
Model GE70 CND is manual turbo mode or automatical same at GE70 ONC ?
in both models Turbo will auto light when dedicated card is used,
and will auto turn off when its not used.

  • Can I set the Fan manually..?

I use BOINC and because of that my Thinkpad T410 crashes quite often!
(Although I let BOINC only use one core!) Can I somehow set the fan manually to the maximum and set it back to normal when I stop BOINC?

    @mBurch,
Just a suggestion ... since you leave the BOINC on when the laptop is idle, do elevate the laptop since the software is constantly running the proc up. By elevating the laptop you enable more air to get "pulled" into the base of the laptop thus better ventilation = cooler and happier laptop when you volunteer.
    Juz my 2 cents =)

I have a Y2P (i5) ... Feel free to ping me if you want me to test some applications with your Y2P if you have the same model. I don't mind keep doing recovery on it if needed .... =)

First of all don't hijack other topics next time please. The one you posted in was not related to your question about the fan issue but the normal fans off feature below 60°C. Your thread has been split off.
The issue is fixed in later batches and everyone with a card affected by the issue with one fan not starting at all had been adviced to rma the card as there is no fix for existing cards. The Fans Randomly Turning On issue has been fixed with a vbios update.
The thread you meant by the way has been continued in another topic.

  • MSI GTX 770 - Do the fans ever adjust rpm?

I have MSI Afterburner installed and when I run stress test on my gpu the fan speed never increases. I can manually adjust it fine but I am curious to know what determines when these fans kick up? Is there certain temps it needs to hit in order to speed up?
Reason I am asking other then just wanting knowledge here is I was running SLI until I had to RMA one of the gpu's. Anyway when I was running SLI the 1st 770 would hit temps of 75-80, never topping 80. The second would hit temps of 65. Well I turned the fans up to about 75% and my temps went down 10-15c! Why on earth wouldn't this just automatically happen? I would think if the fans can keep me below or around 70 on my main gpu that would be something your software is preset to do?

Yes the fans do speed up if necessary. As both cards stayed cool they could remain silent. 75-80°C of one card in SLI where temps are always higher is very good. If you want lower temps even at a higher noise level you can setup own fan profiles using Afterburner. >>How to use MSI Afterburner<<

  • How do i reset fans on a macbook7,1 running Lion? I've tried the non-take out battery reset smc method and i've done the cmd-alt-P-R resetting of something. Still when everything in loaded it sets the fans really high and then goes down to normal in..

... seonds and it won't use fans as it usually does. This all happened because i did a clean install while having fans at 3100. Please help me reset my fans!!!

OK....you were using SMCfancontrol?....and you reinstalled the app after the clean install?......did you open Preferences for SMCfancontrol and run the slider that controls the fan speed back to the left? (Apple default speed)......my 4,1 MacBook is about 1800 rpm...

Yes it does. Ive seen posts regarding other models about taking the battery out and holding the power button down but no joy. I've contacted msi who are supposed to be taking it back. Just wondered if there were any tricks to get it going without sending it back. It all sounds ready to go when you press the power button,  its just that the light stays orange and no screen.

Wow, long day. Ok, I got the notebooks mixed up.
As James D has stated below, the GE70 has the dedicated card integrated to the motherboard, so your chances for upgrading are none. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused. Thanks James for clarifying. Early morning for sure.

  • MOVED: MSI GE70 FPS Drops + Lag Spikes

This topic has been moved to MSI Notebooks & Netbooks.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=182574.0

i saw your post and i'm going to try it as soon as i can ( probably tomorow night ) but i got a question, i got FPS Drop on CSGo ok, thats a problem many guys have with msi's GTX 860 M GPU ok meh, i also got something on League of Legend, i got a heavy lag spike ( about 300 ms ) during 3 / 4 seconds, then its coming back to 40 ms.  Should i also try out, by reducing my GPU's temperature ( as you did in your post ) and try to see if it may do something for my League of legend lag spike aswell ? or might this come from an other problem on my laptop ?. i already tried to get Killer Lan network last update and it didnt change anything. I checked all of my drivers update about internets ( wifi card etc... ), all is updated. By the way, my lag spikes frequency goes as my FPS Drops on CSGo, about every 1 / 2 minuts, i just wonder, if it comes from my GPU, why on CSGo i got fps drop because gpu is hot meanwhile on League i got lag spikes to manifest my gpu's overheating ?  Strange thing.
To be honest the heavily thing i'm mad of is that i played before on a Toshiba, with a simply cuda nvidia GPU, intel core i5, i had 30 fps on league of legend but never had any lag spikes. I also had 40 / 50 fps on CSGo but never had any problems like fps drop. I wonder why the hell are these MSI called " Gaming laptop ", if with a simple working notebook that may be only viable " for working on microsoft word " i got less problems ( A simple toshiba notebook by the way that cost 1/3 of this MSI's price . )
By the way panni i'm going to try your idea out tomorow and i'll tell you the result as soon as possible for CSGo.
Anyway if you got an other idea to help me for my lag spikes on league of legend i would be happy to hear you you'r free to PM me or we could even talk ( skype / teamspeak ) if you got something for me.
Thank you very much for your precious help

If the SSD is connected to a SATA-3 port you may need drivers to make Windows know about it.
Same for the RAID, but that one can be loaded after Windows is installed.
