  • MSI AE2081 TouchScreen Utility for Ubuntu Linux 12.04

    Hi All
I have a MSI All-in-one AE2081. which I would like to use for a kiosk. It's running Ubuntu 12.04 perfectly. Everything works fine. The only problem I have is that the touch screen is really sensitive and sometimes it highlights items instead of clicking it. Is there a utility available that would allow me to change the click settings? I would like to disable mouse emulation and use a point and click option. I have seen it on other touchscreens.
    Thanks for the help.

You can also try to reload the plugin database, instructions are in the [[Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems#w_re-initializing-the-plugins-database]] article (deleting pluginreg.dat in the profile folder and reloading firefox)

  • Adobe livecycle for ubuntu linux

adobe livecycle for ubuntu linux pls

This is not officialy supported to run LiveCycle ES/ES2 on any linux distribution but Enterprise Red Hat or SUSE Linux. But this does not mean this is not gonna run on Ubuntu.
I've tested LiveCycle ES2 using Glassfish and Geronimo as application servers, that are not officially suported, and that works.
For testing/developing purposes, i think you may use Ubuntu, but if you run in troubles you wont get support from Adobe.
Do not try any unsupported platform for production environments.

  • Nokia Ovi Suite for Ubuntu - Linux

Hi!  I am using Ubuntu. I would be happy if you would make the Nokia Ovi Suite, for this operating system also.
I also have an go pal (medion) gps.
Can I use Ovi maps with it ?

PC synchronising software is offered free of charge by all mobile phone manufacturers, so it's unlikely that any will develop Linux software - the OS may be growing, but it is still only a minority system.
There are independent solutions avbailable, here are just a couple of examples:

  • Need Firefox 4.0 installer for Ubuntu (linux) 10.04

I can't install the new Firefox 4.0 or 4.0.1 in my netbook, 'couse it only supports Ubuntu 10.04 and I want the installer with the ".deb" extention.

Ok I tested a bunch of different Firefoxes on my pos linux box.

I have an old Dell Dimension 2400 I plan to use as a replacement for the Sony Vaio when it pops. I've held out as long as possible because it lacks a pci or usb wifi and I really didn't want to run 50 feet of cat5 up a flight of stairs to it. [as i type this i think i remember where a linksys stick for it might be]. Yes I guess it's about time I just do that.
Don't laugh but the reason I held off adding a simple usb keyboard was just lack of space in my tiny bedroom. My setup is on two tray tables side-by-side. Sony Vaio is on left one, my lcd monitor and mouse are on the other. I barely have room to put a cup of coffee on the one with monitor and mouse let alone a full size usb keyboard lol.
Anyway thank you again for all your help.

  • Oracle 11g Express for Ubuntu Linux

Just like Oracle provided express edition for linux for 10g, will there be an easy to install express edition of 11g for linux? I mean via apt-get or debs or synaptic. Of course, synaptic being the easiest I have EVER seen oracle install on linux.
I want to try Linux as a developer, but installing 11g on linux the normal way is a pain. I do not want to spend days trying to install 11g on linux. I want to get busy doing something with 11g such as write queries and design databases.

    Yes, sigh.
If only people could write what they mean!My apologies for not being adept at the language. But we have both been wrangling with my lack of
language skills for years, so we should be used to it by now.
    >
Are you saying EE when you mean XE, perhaps? No. I meant EE using synaptic. Which does not exist. Which may explain why some people think the installation is difficult. The tools they have learned are not there and the fight to find or learn the alternatives is not pleasant.
And even the simple stuff may seem. difficult. Some people, including modern developers with IDEs, are very concerned about the difficulties of editing in Linux. In my Oracle on Linux courses, I see grown men near tears when I tell them to edit sysctl.conf ... you should see the visible relief when I describe gedit or kate.
You have been doing the baseline install for years - Back in the Red Hat 9 days, I'd been handing out the HJR Linux install (with your written permission) in my classes for years. So I expect us to get it done in a short time. Cookie-cutter boot, thru install Linux & Oracle, to tnsping shouldn't take us (you and me) more than 1.5-2.5 hours. (Especially if all we want is a basic data dump.)
But ... reading the docco, translating the steps into a manual sequence, and finding and running the synaptic equivalent to the documented rpm commands - aka a synaptic install - can take days. Heck, just reading the docco to get it straight under a certified distro can take days.
After that, OUI is simple, and (if the pre-reqs are clean) nearly fool-proof.
BTW - why do we have to fight with the pre-reqs? Why can there not be more variants of the SUSE-supplied orarun.rpm to do all that manual stuff?

  • MSI GTX 780 (Gaming) coil whine?

I've had this MSI GTX 780 (Gaming) for about a month and it has been making quite a lot of noise while gaming.
I've recorded a sample of starting up and playing Borderlands 2:
Sample (Not sure how to provide the link considering I'm not allowed to post external links)
    0-10s is Windows Idle
    10-36s is Loading & Menu
36s+ is actual gaming and where the noise really kicks in
Sleeping Dogs and Splinter Cell Blacklist also result in the same amount of noise (more or less)
Unigine Valley also leads to the same noise (if not louder) regardless whether I take Extreme HD preset or a combination of Custom settings (DX9, DX11, OpenGL, Fullscreen, Windowed, 0x-8x AA)
Is there anything I can do about it?
Is it definitely the GPU or should I be looking at maybe the PSU?
Is this grounds for a RMA?
I unfortunately don't have access to another 780 or a suitable PSU for testing...
PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer Quad 750W (Mk1)
    Mobo: Asus Z87-A

i like overkill PSU's that are 2-3x more then i will ever need like my one in my AMD rig listed below in my signature (Thermaltake Tough Power 1500W that is a great PSU) i too am sceptical of there below 600W ones as they tend to be made cheaply but the higher end ones (700W+) tend to be made by better PSU OEM's that build them very well (my 1500W one was £200 UK when i got it 3-4 years ago and it has no problems at all) tried alot of GPU's with it and 0 whine from any including a AMD HD 7970 and Nvidia GTX780 from the most recent cards out there!
but I agree the lower end ones AVOID them as its a 50/50 chance it will be a bad buy. (i have 2 seasonic still in use and 2 Corsair ones and both makes are great)

  • Ubuntu look-alike gnome theme for arch linux

Is there any theme/gnome package(s) for arch linux that will give me gnome that looks kind of like the gnome package for ubuntu? I'm moving over from ubuntu to arch, and I'm hoping to ease the transition at first while I get used to the rest of the system. Thanks!
EDIT:  Actually, how configurable is xfce? I've used gnome and kde for arch a bit, but they're just so vanilla, and I'm still looking for a relatively nice graphical interface on top of cli. Thanks!

xfce4 is just about as configurable as GNOME at the level of gconf/ xfconf and way more configurable via the settings GUI.

  • Best method for networking with ubuntu linux

    Hi,
I'm setting up an ubuntu linux fileserver, and I was wondering what the best method for filesharing with my mac is. I'm currently running osx 10.4.11, though I may be upgrading to 10.5 soon. I'll be running SMB networking for a couple of other computers, but I'd prefer something a bit more robust that can handle file permissions etc.

Mac OS X supports NSF out of the box. Configuration isn't documented.
I recall Apple got rid of net info manager in Leopard, so the configuration will be different. Perhaps more unix like.
Mac OS X support the Unix Network File System (NFS). However, it leaves out
    the GUI.
This page show you how to use NetInfo Manager:
    http://mactechnotes.blogspot.com/2005/09/mac-os-x-as-nfs-server.html#c1168221713 40271068
NFS Manager can both setup NFS shares and connect to NFS shares.
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/NFSManager.html
Once you figure out how NFS Manager configures the NFS shares, you can
use Applications > Utilities > NetInfo Manager to create more shares.
You will either have to coordinate Unix Userid number and Unix Group Id number or use the mapall option on the share.
To find out your Mac OS X userid and group id do:
    applications > utilities > terminal
    ls -ln
    ls -l
    # lists the NFS share on your mac
    showmount -e localhost
#list NFS shares on a remote host
    showmount -e remote-ip-address
Once you see what NFS Manager does, you will be able to use NetInfo Manager to manage a connection. In Mac OS 10.4 you can configure the /etc/exports control file. See man exports for the details. Before that you had to have the data in NetInfo manager. When Mac OS X came out, many common Unix control files were not present. Instead the data had to be in NetInfo manager. Over time Apple has added more and more standard Unix control files.
    ======
You do know about the need to match userids & groupids.
    # display uid and gid
    ls -ln
    sudo find / -user short-user-name -exec ls '-l' {} \;
    # on Mac OS X
you will need to go into NetInfo Manager and select user and find your short-user-name. Change uid and guid.
    #on Linux look in
    /etc/passwd
    /etc/group
    # with care...
    # change 1000:20 to your values for uid:gid
    sudo find / -user short-user-name -exec chown 1000:20 {} \;
The manual for Tenon MachTen UNIX (which Apple checked when doing Mac OS
    X) says that one should crate the file /etc/exports, which will cause
portmap, mountd and nsfd to launch at startup via the /etc/rc file. The
file must not contain any blank lines or comments, and each line has the
    syntax
    directory -option[, option] hostlist
where 'directory is the pathname of the directory that can be exported,
and 'hostlist' is a space separated list of hostnames that can access the
    directory. For example
    /usr -ro foo bar
    /etc
    /Applications
    /User/gladys gladys
The client the uses a command like
    /sbin/mount -t type [-rw] -o [options] server:directory mount_point
where 'type' is 'nfs', 'server' the name of the server, 'directory' the
server directory mounted, and 'mount_point' the client mount point. See
    'man mount' for details.
I haven't tried the above, but it would be nice to know if it works on Mac OS X.
    Hans Aberg
This will give you some hints on NFS. Post back your questions.

  • Broadcom Wireless Driver - LINUX (for Ubuntu LTS Slipstream)

    Hello,
I'm looking to build a slipstream ISO for Ubuntu LTS. The current LTS ISO comes with the wired NIC driver but not the wireless - can someone point me to the place to find the driver? I know I can plug in a wired connection and then do an update within Ubuntu but I'm trying to avoid that or at least have the wireless NIC work from the start.
    Thx.

which broadcom chip do you have? im pretty sure the 4313 broadcom chip has the same driver as my atheros chip in my b570 which the driver is already on linux mint, ubuntu and a few others you just need to do a little command line stuff.
to get mine working i had to type:
    sudo service network-manager stop
    sudo rmmod acer_wmi
    sudo modprobe acer_wmi
    sudo rfkill unblock all
    sudo service network-manager start
    sudo rmmod -f acer_wmi
that would get it working, then you type this to get it to stick past reboots:
    sudo su
    echo "blacklist acer_wmi" >> /etc?modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
after that you will have a fully working wifi connection that will last through reboots, although wicd seems to work better than network manager so i would recomend swapping them out after you get everything working.
