MOVED: MSI GX600 won't boot. Pls. Help!

This topic has been moved to MSI Notebook.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158037.0

I had the exact same symptoms and managed to fix this issue by resetting the BIOS.
If you're not afraid of taking a screwdriver to your laptop, do the following:
- unscrew the bottom plate
- find the battery, in my case it was covered in blue plastic
- pull the wire that's attached to it, from its connector on the motherboard
- after a minute, plug it back in
The above worked for me, I hope it helps someone else as well.

  • MSI GX600 won't boot. Pls. Help!

Hey guys I need your help!
I know it's kind of an old laptop and I've already moved on with another one. But it's such a waste to throw away (since it's my first gaming laptop) and I'm planning to give it to my mom but it won't boot.
    Here are the details:
    1) When I turn it on, the fans are functioning the cd-drive is functioning but nothing comes out of the screen. It's just black.
    2) Upon turning it on the system boot light will flicker for just a moment and it will turn off. Only the light under the "light bulb" symbol is on which means it's in sleep mode?
3)I tried the EC reset but the problem is still there. I'm not planning to reset the CMOS battery myself since I might end making it worse. ( I don't know where it is =P)
I don't know if the problem is BIOS related or hardware related but I'm sure the laptop batteries and the AC charger are working fine.
I just need your opinions/diagnosis on the possible problems that my laptop are experiencing before I ship it to a faraway city. There are no MSI service centers in our city which makes it even worse.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!  :(

  • MSI 6182 won't boot

Hi, I have a MSI 6182 that I am having problems getting to boot up.  I've tried removing everything except the CPU and memory and the computer will not boot up.  All that happens is that the computer turns on and the diagnostic led's light up 0101, indicating that it is Testing VGA Bios.  I've tried clearing the cmos and that doesn't help.  too bad it doesn't have a agp slot and I don't have any pci video cards.
Can I reflash the bios?  That is my last hope it seems...  I am about read to throw out this board because I can't figure out what is wrong...

I wouldn't put much stock in the "C" by the MSI logo mine has the same C to the right of the 6th PCI slot (white ink) as well but above the PCI slot it says ms6182 ver:1 but on mine (maybe yours?) when I took the board right out of the case on the bottom of the ISA slot are a couple stickers to really confuse the issue mine says 9909 Option:A S/N 573853 So you'd think ver:A but it also says MSI MS-6182D & it had a PIII 550E Coppermine SBridge 82801AA NBridge 82810DC100 so Ver: D is my guess.
My board won't boot just like yours I get a black screen but I get 1 long & 2/3 short beeps on mine which on an Award Bios v1.4 means a video bios error & since you can't replace the noexistent AGP card your board like mine may be DOA. I've pretty much gave up on mine but I may try to flash the bios blind one of these days it's a paperweight anyway & I got nothin to lose now I got another Mobo finally
I've tried different Ram, CPU, Battery, ISA Vid, PCI Vid,  it just beeps & stays black but maybe yours isn't so bad off Sorry my post isn't more helpful but I pretty much wrote my MOBO off already

  • Mac won't boot up, help required!

My mac came up with a message saying to power the mac down and re-boot it. I powered it down and now it won't boot back up again, just going to a blue screen with the curcular lines icon spinning round and nothing happens. It wont boot up in safe mode either and can't get it to recognise the OSX cd to re-install they system software. Have tried booting up with CD in and holding down C but nothing is happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    ps. I'm running OSX 10.4

Hi ressull, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You don't mention which Mac. We need to know.
Do you have Firmware Password Protection on? That disables any Boot Option keys.

  • MSI 655 Won't boot.

I have a problem with my comuputer. It started with the computer freezing after a while. It had nothing to do with Windows, since it froze in Windows-installer or when booting from floppy too. Now the computer won't boot at all, the POST-message never appears on the screen after power-on. I have tested RAM and GFX in other computers, and they work fine. I have also tested with another power supply unit, with the same result. So I think it is the motherboard that is the problem, but I wanted to hear if anyone else has exprienced a similar problem. I have not installed any new hardware recently, and it has worked fine for 8 months.
    My system:
    MSI 655 Max FISR
    P4 2.53 GHz
    512 MB OCZ DDR400
    PoV Gforce 4 Ti4200 128 MB
    160 GB Maxtor SATA IDE
    350W PSU

Ok, I need to admit that the 655Max was a problematic board... I was also told by my local distribution engineer that ver1.0 of the chipset was not well made so alot of problems surfaced out. But before fully pointing my 10 little fingers on the mobo, I would like to ask some questions.
    1) List out the Specs of the PSUs that you've used before or tested before on this system.
    2) Did you lower your DDR400 RAMs to DDR 333MHz in BIOS first before installing and anything else?

    Hi,
Install the v10.6.6 combo update available here. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.6. The combo includes fixes that were not included in the original update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
Restart your Mac and try the MAS again.
You can download apps directly from the MAS once you have it running.
Considering the TM backup took so long, make sure there's enough space on your Mac startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*

  • Dropped iBook - won't boot up, help!

Because I'm an idiot, I dropped my beloved G4 iBook on the ground and now it won't boot up. I can get it to turn on, I get the startup chime, it gets to the blue screen with the grey Apple and spinning progress indicator...and that's it. The spinning disc just keeps on spinning indefinitely. No error messages, no kernel panic, nothing like that. Tried booting in Safe Mode...get the blue screen with grey apple, no spinning disc, and that's as far as I can get.
I bought it secondhand from a friend so no warranty or Applecare or anything like that. Is the hard drive okay? Could something have come loose and just needs to be snapped back into place? Did the motherboard get cracked? What could cause this type of problem, especially since I can't even get it to boot in Safe Mode, and what can I do to fix it? Is it even fixable? Have I lost all my files? Can I just take it to a repair shop and everything will be okay?!?!
    helllllllp!!!! :'(

Hi from another idiot iMac user (I last posted when I spilled a glass of water on my desktop's keyboard...)
I dropped my iBook G4 on the stairs this morning Since it sort of slid down the carpeting I thought I'd be OK but it was just like the other used described - Apple logo, spinning startup icon, a few clicks and whirrs then nothing.
I followed your instructions below, and the Installer loaded. I have clicked on Introduction, agreed with the licensing, selected a destination (clicked on HD), but then I got a message "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume without changing your install settings. Click Options to change settings. A newer version of Mac OS is installed."
I never got a Repair Disk button. I never installed newer software, unless it was an update that downloaded from Apple. What should I do?
    Thanks!!!!
    Mary

  • Need help! MSI laptop won't boot from SSD

Hello, I bought an MSI GP60 2PE Leopard 4 months ago, and recently decided to upgrade its hard drive to an SSD.
However, after cloning my C drive (my boot drive) directly to the SSD, the laptop refuses to boot from it. It can detect the drive and I can access the files from it (when I open up My Computer, the drive shows up as drive F). But, when I swap out the hard drive with this SSD, it says "no media detected" when booting up.
The SSD i bought is a 128GB Kingston SSD if this information helps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Follow Darkhawk's simple guide https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=179716.0. Cloning seems to end in tears & having to use this method anyway. FWIW, I stupidly tried to clone when I installed a SSD few mths back & naturally it didn't work, wasting a few hrs in the process. This method works first time/everytime.

  • Msi nx6800gt agp atrifact problem pls HELP!!!

    hello all,
well guys need a help, a real bit starnge problem im facing, i got a MSI NX6800GT 256MB DDR3 AGP graphic card, the system boots up well no issues in the 2d mode but when i ran cod2 i faced kind of shall i say pixel sized squares appearing during gameplay the same was noticed playing f.e.a.r also, i chcked the card with riva tuner it showed the card as a proper 6800gt with 16pipelines etc i dont knw whts the problem i tried the same card in my frnds system also, he is running a gainward 6800gt golden sample we noticed the same kind of square artifacts which run all round the screen sometimes very few but i think as the game goes on its more, the card was run at stock speed of 350/1000 and the temp maintains at 62 degrees...
the system tested on had specs amd 3400+ 754 on a asus k8ne dlx mobo, with 1 gb twinmoss ram, an 500w power supply, the 3dmark2005 scroce is 4736pts, an we noticed these spots even during the benchmark....
the driver version used was 71.77 series then we used the 66 series an even msi's default series or drivers but to no avail pls do guide me on this guys it wud be really really helpful...
    regards,
    vicky

    hey richard,
i tired tht also, infact in the very begening the new forceware drivers were used then we tried the others, actually the artifacts are not like polygons or anthying they are square sized pixels tht appear on the screen, the monitor used was a viewsonic 17'' flat screen and the res was 1024 X 768.
we saw some serious square pixels in bf2, cod2 an even fear! 3dmark05 also displayed the same, do you think its a problem with the card or the cooling, the temp of the card remains between 56-62 deg.
we dont wanna underclock te card as i think it wud void the warranty!

    You could either:
    1. spend more $$$ to buy higher speed CPU
    2. unlock the CPU multiplier and void CPU warranty
    3. lower down your (unlocked) multiplier and run at FSB 166Mhz so all PCI and AGP are still in default speed.
Any other speed than 100Mhz, 133Mhz and 166Mhz FSB is NOT recommended!
Please don't quote me further as overclocking is at your own risk and may spoil your hardware.
And you think that i dind not try those 3 points  X(
ofcourse i did but my board does not boot @ a multiplyr difrend than 13,5 ( and yes the cpu is unlocked ).
    and about overclocking:
that i destroy my hardware i dont care its cheap stuff and i have plenty of cooling so i am not really worryd about that.
Any one else has som info for me ?

We had a unit do the same thing that you are talking about here. I found after two days of test that it was the Heatsink. It had the grease but it was not seated just right. When I redid the Heat sink the issue went away. I had to clean them both and then surface the Heatsink with 600 grt paper.
When I put it back together it worked fine.
I can't say that this is it, what is wrong with yours but it does and is doing the same things that we had going on with us.
You might check this and see. Because it would not boot no matter what we did. And it will heat up and trip out in a second.
And this is after the machine had run playing games for a week or so. I thinkt he Heat sink warped from the heat. I have never seen one do this before but I guess it could happen. Any way it fixed ours.
Do You mean the CPU heatsink, or GPU heatsink? -
By the way, who wants to guess if I was blessed or not - and if buying a new $150+ PSU really helped
Please, any more help would be great

  • MSI CX600 won't boot

    Hello all,
Would anyone gives an idea what could be the problem
I bought MSI CX600 in jan 2010 and 2 years later it started with this problem
When laptop is turned on or resumed, the operating system (windows7) will not load. The laptop screen does not turn on at all, This does not seem to be an OS issue as the bios screen does not load either. The only way the laptop can be turned off is to remove the battery. (Cannot be turned off by holding off button)
The laptop will load OS every 5-15 attempts (having to remove battery to turn off each time) This occurs on battery and A/C. When the issue occurs, The half moon and HDD lights are both solid on, If the laptop boots correctly the HDD light will turn off and later start to flash.
is the same exact problem that one of the forum user a.rhook posted in 2010, but no one answered, I took hdd out and put it in a caddy and i can read it through another computer and run chckdsk and found no problem, anyone now in 2013 got any idea
    Many thx

thanks for reply, but unfortunately warranty ran out, i took it to repair shop, they couldn't figure out the problem, they it could be the graphics card but others said that cards don't give this kind of symptoms, the one that confused them is it turns on with power button, but you have to take battery to shut off and it won't turn on with battery on until you plug power, very strange
    thank anyway

  • MSI GX60 won't boot up

My system has suddenly just started to not boot up for me anymore. I turn the laptop on and all I get is the light on the power button staying orange and I can hear the fans running. I am unable to do anything on it currently besides boost the fan and turn the keyboard light on and off. Is there any methods I can use to help solve this issue? Preferably I would rather not have to send the system off for repairs if it can be helped at all.

    try ec reset https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller
    then see how its goes
also try to boot with battery only and with ac charger only and with both of them
see if would makes any difference

  • MSI P43 won't boot with usb devices connected

    My system:
    MSI P43 Neo
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
NorthQ Black Magic 850 watt PSU
    Corsair 4 x 2GB ram PC2-8500 1066MHz
    Seagate 320 GB hd
    Hitachi 1 TB hd
    Samsung 1.5 TB hd
    Club3D Nvidia GTX275 1,75 GB
    Samsung DVD Write Master
When i try to boot i freezes at the detecting usb devices when i have a usb device connected. It does with any usb device. But when i boot up without any usb devices connected then i boot fine and i can connect the devices right after the detection of usb devices. How can that be?

Googled on "computer not booting with usb code 6b38" and found this:
     Quote
    ****SLOW BOOT-UP in POST SCREEN****
P.S. If you see the BIOS code 6B38 in the bottom right corner of the screen, this is a indication that USB Legancy support is enabled in the BIOS. If this is enabled and you have any usb devices attached such as a external USB Hard drive, your system will take ages to go through the POST boot screens.
So disable this setting in the BIOS and the system will then boot in a matter of Seconds
    From:
    http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=000250
Also try and see if a clear CMOS will help, some people suggested that from a old post from MSI forum here, saying its bios 1.3 thats bugged.
So if disabling doesnt work, perhaps down/upgrading BIOS might.
