We had a unit do the same thing that you are talking about here. I found after two days of test that it was the Heatsink. It had the grease but it was not seated just right. When I redid the Heat sink the issue went away. I had to clean them both and then surface the Heatsink with 600 grt paper.
When I put it back together it worked fine.
I can't say that this is it, what is wrong with yours but it does and is doing the same things that we had going on with us.
You might check this and see. Because it would not boot no matter what we did. And it will heat up and trip out in a second.
And this is after the machine had run playing games for a week or so. I thinkt he Heat sink warped from the heat. I have never seen one do this before but I guess it could happen. Any way it fixed ours.
Do You mean the CPU heatsink, or GPU heatsink? -
By the way, who wants to guess if I was blessed or not - and if buying a new $150+ PSU really helped
Please, any more help would be great

  • MSI K8N Diamond not booting

I have a slight problem with MSI K8N Diamond. It is not booting and according to the manual d-bracket says memory error.
    My system:
    Motherboard: MSI K8N Diamond
    CPU: AMD Athlon64 3000+ Winchester (socket 939)
    Memory: 2x Corsair ValueSelect 512M
Graphics card: PNY GeForce 6600GT 128M
Hard disk: Western Digital Caviar 200GB IDE
    Power supply: Antec SmartPower 350W
    PSU's Max DC Outputs:
    +5V: 35A
    +12V: 21A
    +3.3V: 28A
    -5V: 0.5A
    -12V: 0.8A
    +5VSB: 2.0A
When I got motherboard, I plugged everything in and it seemed to work. I got to sleep and on the morning the motherboard didn't boot up anymore. D-Bracket just says memory error and nothing comes to screen. Because of that I sent the first motherboard for RMA (did cost me 27 euros). I got new motherboard today, but I have the exactly same problem. System not booting up because of memory error.

    ... or my processor's pci-express is broken....
    You probably mean Hyper-Transport....
As for the PSU, you can try with the PSU of your friend to test the MOBO.
But do the following, take the MOBO out of the case and test it outside on top of a pile of newspapers, then put in the CPU+HSF, memory 1 stick in slot 1, gfx, and your friend's PSU, press the CMOS reset button, connect the AC plug to the PSU and start it. Test it like this...and post back with results...
    Be well....

  • MSI K8N Diamond - SLI-switchcard plastic piece broken

    Hi.
I have MSI K8N Diamond that has SLI-switchcard. It is being held down with that nasty plastic piece. Now I can't make the plastic piece hold any longer. As soon as I let my finger off switchcard, that plastic piece pops out. Is there any better solution to hold down the card?

    Dear Customer,
Please have the SLI Bridge set for SLI Mode enable and retest with only the 1 video card into slot #2.
If this works then it indicate the PCI-E slot is fine and the SLI Bridges are the cause.
If it did not work at all then the PCI-E slot #2 has problem which the mb needs to be serviced:

  • K8N Diamond Plus boot problems

I just built a new computer and it was working fine for about a month.  Then one morning when I started it up it wouldn't turn on.  The front LED's turn on, and the fans all start, but nothing ever shows up on the screen.  The set of four lights on the back show  R R
                                                                                                    G G
Nothing has changed since the pc was working fine.  I haven't changed any bios settings or added any hardware or software.  I did try resetting the bios using the CMOS jumper, but this didn't change anything.  The lights on the back show that it is initializing ide drivers, but in the manual it also shows that it is one of the last steps in the start-up process, so i would think that the memory check, processor count, msi logo ect. should appear on the screen like it normally does.  However, the LED that blinks when the hard drive is active never lights up, but when i open the case and feel the hard drive i can feel it vibrating like it is functioning properly.  And if it is a hardrive failure, then shouldn't the bios still start up and show up on the monitor?  I have heard that many weird problems can be attributed to the psu, but I have a 500w Antec Smartpower 2.0, which is a pretty reliable psu from what i've heard.  Any help or suggestions would be welcome.  Also, how would i test individual components to find out what is causing the problem?  I think since everything is within a couple of months old i should be able to get replacements.   Thanks in advance for any help.

You guys are awesome!  Thanks a bunch for the info on ram, I feel like I understand it better and I looked and found all the stuff in the bios that you guys were talking about.  I'm downloading speedfan currently and will go install it on my other computer.  I tried swapping the sticks of memory, but i ran into the same problem i did before.  So i'm assuming that i can safely say one stick is faulty right?  And do any of you guys have any experience trying to get replacement memory from crucial?  I'll have to go poke around their website also.  Well, thank you all so much for all of your help.  This is my first home built pc and i'm trying to learn alot about them.  Once everything is running properly i may try a little overclocking, but i'd like to get everything running smoothly first.  Just out of curiosity, what would make a stick of ram go bad like that?  It was only a month old, and i thought crucial xms was pretty good ram.  Is it not? or did i just get unlucky?
Thanks a ton for all the answers, this forum is the most helpful one i've ever seen.  thanks!
Maybe that you're unlucky to get those faulty RAM. Crucial RAM is not bad if you get the better performance if you're ocing your PC if or else get the value RAM if you don't oced.

Ok. Get it but not sure about MBM as it seems that it don't support it. :p

MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum Problem

A lot of things could be wrong but it will be easier to figure out if we know what you did.  When you say you changed settings in Bios, do you remember your last settings and what you did?
It might be helpful if you created a sig (as described in the forum rules) to show what you have in your system like my sig below. (Hint- use profile button in sign on screen.)
Things could be broken even if there is no visible evidence (such as flames or melted component) of course.
If I had to guess and your d-bracket reading is correct, corrupted bios requiring new bios chip, but let's not guess as a lot of things could be wrong and you don't want to invest in a new bios chip if the board cannot be brought back to life.  Consider removing parts and testing them in an other machine.  Start with CPU and memory?
    Good luck.

  • MSI K8N Plat SLI Audio Problems

i just built my system and i am wondering what to do about the onboard audio. i have a old set of speakers from gateway that include a subwoofer and 2 front speakers that are digital i believe. i plug them into the yellow spdif out coaxial hole  (speaker plug dosent go in all the way) and i would get a lot of crackling and distortion so i took it out, i tried all teh other onboard audio and nothing works. i checked the digital output only option and unchecked it and nothing changes. now when i plug teh speakers in nothing works no sounds nothing. anybody else have these issues? im thinking about buying a sound card what do you guys think? ithough the soundblaster was supposed to be something great whats up with this? ive read a lot of issues regarding the onboard sound but cant seem to find ananswer.

The "distortion" as you describe it is static interference that goes through to the amplifier, due to the fact that you do not have a correct connection. If the connector does not fit, do not try to force it.
I would leave the case connectors unconnected for the moment, until you get sound through the spdif out. What type of connector is it to your speakers?
you are correct sir! i did some more research with different keywords after i posted my last post and realized that i needed a 1/8" stereo to RCA converter, so i hopped over to radio shack and purchased the little connector for 4 bucks and plugeed it in and walla. Thanks for the help though.
also to the guy with the link to the front case connections, thanks for the suggestion, i had all of my audio ports connected so that wasnt an issue, but thanks for pointing that out.

  • K9N2 Diamond & SLI Boot problem

Hello. I have a boot problem in my mb. My sli config is with 2 Gigabyte 8800 GT. I can enter windows and sli works fine. The problem is that i only have image in windows. I can't see post, so i can't access bios. Only when windows starts i get image. Tried the cards in a MSI K8N SLI Platinum and i had no problem. Image since i turn on computer. The cards in solo show image like in the MSI K8N. In bios i have the Hybrid SLI disabled, tried disable on-chip VGA but the pc won't boot. The customer service told me to update bios to version 2.3. I think that might be a bios beta version, i only know 2.1. There is a v2.2 to support the AM3 cpu's. Help !!

try to change the battery on your motherboard to see if it help. I believe that your battery of the motherboard is so weak so it won't able to show the POST.
The battery on the mainboard only powers the CMOS so it can store the BIOS settings. If the battery is failing, it will still start up, but BIOS settings will need to be re-set.

  • MOVED: MSI K8N Diamond Plus Multipler

    Zone^55 Live,
Remember that every time you change the FSB you effect the HT, Core and Memory clocks.
The amount you effect the is determined buy the multipliers you have setup.
In addition, the are no fixed frequency parameters on the Diamond Plus and many paramter are in volved.
So, the days of over-clock a system just meant turning up the FSB clock and maybe twicking the memory timing parameters are gone.
Over-clocking and system now is not just over-clocking, its system prefomance tuning.
EDIT:On your last post I do not have the information to answer that it would take the specification and data sheets on all the components of you system and many hours of study.  You have got yourself into a system, that to turn it to its maximum performance you are going to have to know how each subsystem works, inter acts with the other subsystems to be able to turn it correctly to the maximum preformace and ypu many not get the same performace out of two system made up of the exact same components.  Because this system push the components to edge of there capabilities.  So, if the conponents are all +/- 5% you same system may preform 10% better or 10% worse than some one elses.
One more thing in your screen shorts your HT Data Paths are set 8/8 change them to 16/16, that will help system preformace as much as increasing FSB.
    Roger
When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

*** I don't want to open another topic so I'll post here  ***
Can anyone please recommend a 2x1GB kit compatible with MS-7220 and runs in at least DDR-500 mode?
I'm about to complete my rig and I don't know what RAM to buy.
    My options are:
*** GSkill F1-4000BIU2-2GBHV PC4000 3-3-2-8 (Dual Channel) 2048MB kit (2x1024MB) dual channel pack *** NOT in my country
    *** GSkill F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ PC4000(DDR500) 3-4-4-8 (Dual channel) Samsung / 2048MB kit (2x1024MB) dual channel pack
    *** Corsair TWINX2048-4000PT 2048 MB DDR / 500 MHz / 3-4-4-8
    *** Corsair TWINX2048-4400PRO 2048 MB DDR / 550 MHz / 3-4-4-8
I heard that there are some problems with the BIOS on MS-7220. Will I be able to run the memory at DDR-500? On what BIOS version?
    Thanks!

Yep the thread is long winded and a bit bizar in places if you were not in on the original conversation.
However it does give a load of info to work with if you have a Diamond board. We discuss parts, Overclocking and various other topics of interest.
Some say we should publish that thread to put some poor slobs in colledge to sleep.

    Hello welcome to the forum,
    nForce3 isn't supported in Vista.
And this is the wrong section of the forum to ask for Vista drivers, see the Vista Section.
Change the power profile to minimal, that should enable C'n'Q. If it doesn't, get the driver from from AMD.

  • Msi Eclipse Plus (Sli) Boot Problem !

    Hi
I have a problem , but i'm not sure if it's a motherboard problem ! So i request some help to clearly identify the troubleshoot .
When i try to launch my computer i got 4 bip and message on the Debug led (on the back of the motherboard) :
    - It say FF
And on the DLed 2 i have the message :
    - CPU Ini.
FF means status = Power on and Initialize CPU (see in the booklet of MSi Motherboard)
All is running : CPU Fan and front fan turning; Power on Hard drive ; GTX295 Led is Green , but nothing happen . The card stay in freeze position .
I have check the PSU 1000w Corsair . GTX295 have power , Motherboard led of CPUpower is on (6 blu Led )
I have unplug all component on motherboard except PSU and still the same message and status
I have pull off the PSU and press the Cmos reset button .
I have Pull out the battery of the motherboard for 30 sec , still nothing
So i don't understand what happened . May be CPU is down or the motherboard is down i don't know if there is a solution to identify the problem
All Component are new from monday .
    I apologise for my english
Thanks for helping if you got any idea

If you do pull the CPU for reseating, be sure to check carefully for socket pins damaged or bent.

  • MSI K8N Diamond - In Game Problem

    Hi
I had my MSI board for about 10mths now and had no major problems apart from one. Whilst playing games my monitors go black, my PSU speeds up and then quietens down and after about 20 seconds the game usually comes back on. Until now I have not looked in to the problem as my games have continued as normal. But I have just got COD2 and when the same thing happens the game crashes and does not recover.
I suspect it maybe a memory / mainboard incompatability issue but am not sure whether it could be a PSU issue. Has anyone had a similar problem or any advise on how I can solve this problem.
    Thanks

Well 18A on the 12v rail is a little bit weak, but it sounds more like a heat issue, doesnt it? Maybe vpu recovery causes it, I had the same problems with my 9800Pro, but when I disabled vpu recovery everything was fine.
Whatever it is, it doesnt sound like a motherboard related problem to me. Run Prime95 to see if its CPU/motherboard/RAM related. If Prime doesnt abort the torture test, then the problem lies with the gfx card.
Or the monitor cable isnt connected properly to the gfx card, but thats just a hunch.
