Gadgets,
Before you update your BIOS please do following:
1- Insure that you do not have older legacy USB peripherals (V 1.X) plugged in next to your Ipod 2.0 USB connection.  Pluging in a USB 1.x connector next to a USB 2.0 connector can drag all transfers to the lowest USB 1.x transfer rate.
2- Do not guess at your USB transfwer rate. Download Sandra Lite 2005 (SR3) from Sisoftware here (it's free): http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=177
once you done so install it and use the File System Benchmark program to find out exactly what your Ipod USB connection is achieving in MB/s. A USB 2.0 connection should give you a 32 or greater MB/s transfer rate.
3- Don't MESS with your BIOS UNTIL YOU are absolutely sure of the procedures to follow.  Here is some reference links:

If you decide to Flash your BIOS I recommend that you consider the one that I am using if you have an MSI K8N Neo2 (See my signature block):

Does this MB have USB 2.0? When I plug in my iPod it says that the device could run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. How do I fix this? Thanks

    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (HELP!)

Well we now know the motherboard... what about the rest of the components in the computer. When including specs on the powersupplies (post both the 400w and the 480w) include max amps for the 3.3v 5v and 12v rails. This info can be found on a sticker on the side of the PSU.
Do you have the D-Bracket installed? If so where is it hanging at?
    Good Luck

  • MSI K8N Neo2 and Creative?

Anyone know of a problem between MSI K8N Neo2 board and
    Creative soundblaster audigy 2 card?
My problem started as soon as i plugged in my soundblaster audigy 2 card,
as a result i started to get randomly "Machine Check Exception" problems.
Often when i play games where the sounds are continually.
I've tried creatives support, but i can't find any solution.
The onboard sound works fine, but i prefer the audigy card, as long as it don't
    restart my computer.
Anyone have any idea what it may be?

I am using an Audigy 2 with latest drivers and no probs whatsoever so it may not be a motherboard/soundcard problem

Fantastic!!! Now explain this to me.  My bios shows as ver. 1A.  MSI website does not show a ver 1A!!   B, C, and D, but no A!!!!  LOL
Seriously, thanks.   I was wondering if it had anything to do with it purportedly being refurbished.
    orlbuzz
Yes, it has been removed due some reason.

Yes, lol.   W7125NMS V1.A   I forget the date, but I do remember it is 05.
    orlbuzz
Yes that's correct, but not 7125{Neo4}, 7025 instead is for Neo2.

  • MSI 865PE Neo2 and USB WD (MY BOOK) external HDD

Ok, so recently i went out an brought a My Book. I plugged it in and formatted it.. Next morning i came out turned of my PC and the computer hung during POST. after a few attempts at booting the PC up, i unplugged the MY BOOK from the USB port and rebooted, made myself a coffee and came back, sure enough the PC was sitting in windows.
So i did a bit of research and found that for some reason, when the PC is booting, it try's either reading from the MY BOOK during HDD detection and then at the end of the ON BOARD PATA/SATA HDD detection it 'Recycles' the USB ports, which crashes POST.
My main point of getting an EXTERNAL HDD is portability, so i can back my DATA up, but i also am going to use it as another drive on the computer.
So for my to be playing around, unplugging and plugging back in the Drive everytime the computer boots its sort of. well, not what i had in mind.
Im at a lost of how to fix it and that why i turn to you.

Hay ya Tzare, i've been playing for ages! still no luck!
the best i've got it i've put an inline switch to basically turn power off to the HDD. so i only turn it on when i need it.
i've tried a few little... crazy things. but with no luck! on involved a 1F 5.5V cap across the GND and 5VDC coming from the USB. oddly without GND connected it works!! but the cap keeps the HDD running forever! i read my multi-meter wrong, i thought it said .33A draw. it was actually 0.33mA, so really it wasnt even 1mA.... sigh!
i've tryed my luck with MSI and they say contact WD, and WD say contact MSI.
Im thinking the only real way to solve this is upgrade the motherboard. which also means upgrading the RAM and CPU and any AGP card. so really it will cos around... alot.
    SO, problem still unresolved!..
Hay, you've got a switch on yours! that a bit better than me! LOL. (until recently)

  • MSI k8n neo2 and cpu vcore...

    Dear All,
I just check out with core cell my vcore and i find it @ 1.5v ... but a64 .09 should have 1.4v? I also tryied to set vcore in bios at 1.4v
but in windows i always find 1.5
I check it with ntune and core cell...
    What happens?
    tnx

Use cpu-z from www.cpuid.com to check the voltage .
The mobo bios may still autodetect winchester to 1.5v , if thats the case change
    cpu_vid from startup to 1.4v .

  • These ATI cards 9500 Pro and 9700 Pro ok for MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and winchester cpu? Compatible?

Looking at grabbing a used ATI 9500 Pro or used 9700 Pro AGP card for my MSI Neo2 Plat since I can't use my Matrox G400.
Any problems using either of the above cards? I don't play a huge amount of 3D games so I'm not going to grab a 9800 Pro or XT or 6600GT. A 9500 or 9700 Pro would allow me to play the newer games at reasonable resolutions. Just want to make sure they are compatible.
    thanx

Ok guys, thanx for the feedback. I missed the 9500 Pro sale, so maybe its for the better. If I'm going to try a bit of 3D gaming, I may aswell get a little bit better card. So here is my question for you folks:
For my MSI K8N Neo2 and AMD64 3000+ system, I want a card that will have good 2D output and good DVD playback. I want to try some 3D games, but don't want to have the minimum. I was looking at used 9500 Pro's and the 9600 XT but I've come across a used 9700 Pro and a 9800 Pro and 9800 Pro with r360 core (almost a 9800XT). So if I get a 9700 Pro, what will I be able to play smoothly at what settings and what will I be unable to play. Ultimately, I may play mostly on my projector at 858 x 484, so maybe the cards don't matter too much. If I don't play 3D games much after a while, I'll probably downgrade, but I want to give it a try. I can't afford a new 9800 Pro/XT or 6600GT.
Used cards I'm deciding between. Have to act fast.
9700 Pro $170 CAD or 9800Pro $210 CAD or 9800 with r360 core $230. Price differences between the cards is as you see there.
thanx in advance for any feedback,

  • MSI K8N NEO2 Raid

I have a MSI K8N NEO2 and have lost the floppy to setup raid. Does anyone have a link to make a nvidia raid floppy disk.
    Thanks
    Ronnie.

Don't need to copy the folder Quote
    raidtool
as it won't fit on floppy, just copy the rest as Russ_xp  says.

  • Reboot problem with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and 250 GB SATA HDD

I'm having a "reboot" problem with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. After turning my system on it will run without any problems, until I reboot. After a reboot it will always hang after the initial windows-bootscreen. The HDD-light will remain on. If, instead of going into Windows XP SP2, I try to enter the BIOS after a reboot (DEL) the system will also hang (blank screen with blinking cursor).
It started doing this after I installed the Maxtor 250 GB SATA disk. Before, I didn't have problems rebooting. If I disconnect the Maxtor drive I can reboot and enter BIOS and Windows each and every time. Reconnecting the Maxtor 250 GB SATA drive will return the reboot problem. I always have to use the power swith to get a working system again. It's not enough to do a hard reset (this has the same effect as rebooting).
Here are the details of my system:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B)
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester, 2 Ghz, 512 KB cache, stepping DH-D0)
    2 x Kingston KVR400X64C25/512, 512 MB, DDR, PC3200 (2,5-3-3-8 T1)
Asus Radeon AX800 Pro (256 MB)
    PSU Antec Sonata 380W
HDD Maxtor 80Gb ATA (6Y080P0, Pri Master)
    HDD Seagate 250Gb SATA (ST3200822AS)
HDD Maxtor 250Gb SATA (6V250F0 - jumpered in SATA150 mode, the mobo wouldn't work with the drive in SATA300-mode)
Aopen COM5232/AAH Pro CD-Writer ATA (Sec Master)
BenQ DW1640 DVD-Writer ATA (Sec Slave)
P.S. The NVidia IDE-drivers are NOT installed. System is not overclocked.

Thank you for all the replies. Upgrading to the latest Nvidia IDE-drivers did not fix my problem. Moving to other SATA-ports did not help either. Upgrading the mobo's BIOS is not really an option (I'm using one version before the most recent and there isn't anything in the fixlist of the latest BIOS).
Now I've contacted Maxtor for (hopefully) a new firmware.

[Athlon64] Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum problems with Patriot Ram

    First post, whoo hooo
So what version of BIOS are u running?  I recently installed the two newest versions 2.0 and 2.1, and they both give me problems.  With the latest (2.1) I'm getting the same error as you.  Returning back to previous BIOS fixed my problems.  Oh yeah, my RAM is Kingston Hyper-X, so i don't think thats your problem.
Let me know if you fix it, thats why im here, .

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum AND SATA2

i have  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard with 3500+ cpu and WD 160 hard sata disk.
I 'd like to ask if my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard support sata2 hard disk drives, in order to know which HD  to connect as a second HD drive, SATA or SATA 2 ??

It'll see SATA2 as regular SATA. You won't loose any speed either. There are no hard drives that actually benefit from SATA2 spec speeds. Well, maybe in isolated near theoretical benchmark cases one current model might be faster in SATA2 mode.
We just haven't got the technology yet.
