MSI K8T Neo2-FIR w/ AMD Athlon64 3000 (Venice)

The Venice core will be supported by the K8T neo2 shortly, I'm convinced about that, since Asus (I'm sorry to mention them) are supporting it already, with the same bios.
Even ECS published Venice-ready BIOS updates...

My advice: just wait a few weeks.

MSI K8T Neo2-FIR w/ AMD Athlon64 3000 (Venice)
I am looking at purchasing the MSI K8T Neo2-FIR with the AMD Athlon64 3000 (Venice). However, it appears that many have issues with this. I found a link to a MSI german forum that had a beta version of the newest bios but I have a few questions.
Would a german version work if i am living in canada (toronto)?
How can the bios be flashed if it doesnt recognize the cpu?
When will the new bios be released?Quote from: Ui30 on 08-June-05, 16:36:37

S3 sleep state issue (MSI K8T Neo2 FIR)
Hi,
CPU load is too high (about 80-95%) all the time after the system waked up from S3 sleep state. This is dramatically decreasing system performance.
My configuration is:
MSI K8T Neo2 FIR mainboard
CPU Athlon64 3000+ (Venice rev. E6)
AGP GeForce 6600GT VGA card
Creative SB Live! series
WinXP SP2Wild-Robot,
The following link was suggested to me, since I wondered if my problems might have needed a bios update. The board I have is a 754, thouugh, not a 959, so I would have been suspicious of using this update, anyway. Then Tiresmoke mentioned that the new update addresses a sleep state (S3) issue. Might that help your situation? I would n't know, but it may be worth a look:
MSI Germany published Version 9.3 for K8T Neo2-F(IR):
http://www.msi-computer.de/produkte/main_idx_view.php?Prod_id=402&Seite=BIOS
That Version cannot yet be found at MST TW or MSI USA.

Tiresmoke then mentions:
Well Babblefish translation tells me that this;
Behebt Probleme mit der CPU Auslastung nach dem aufwachen aus dem Standby Modus (S3)
is saying this;
Problems with the CPU extent of utilization repairs after that wakes up from the Standby mode (S3)
So nasically is has something to do with the S3 standby mode issues. As I do not use any standby mode I have not seen any issues. If you have had any then you may want to give it a try but they don't say they fixed anything else so if you are like me and not having any issues you may want to give this one a pass.
Hope that helps. -
MSI K8T Neo2 FIR, need help installing drivers
Hi there,
I need help with installing drivers. Here’s my setup:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Mainbord: MSI K8T Neo2 FIR (VIA K8T800Pro)
OS: Windows XP Professional, SP2 installed
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
I updated per MSI Live Monitor, but when I run ‘dxdiag’, I says I have to update the ‘VIA standard host bridge’. I don’t know what this is or where it can be found. It could be I saved the updated drivers in the wrong file (F:\ Program Files\...) where F is my primary harddisk and the drivers should be saved in F:\Windows\ System 32.
Also, my hardware setup tells me there are two videocards 'installed': a Radeon 9600 Pro and a radeon 9600 Pro (secundary). Do I need to de-install the secundary one?
Here’s a piece of my most recent dxdiag:

Help would be very much appriciated, thnx! The two vis.cards issue is normal, it sees the primary output (VGA) as a device and the TV-out a separate device.
Go to device manager to see if there's any device on ur rig that doesn't have drivers.
Did u install the 4-in1 drivers, get the latest version from the MSI support site.
good luck. -
Will the MSI K8T Neo2 FIR support what I have?
Well, I bought an abit av8 mobo, hoping to make my new happy computer system.. Turns out, after I built the thing, my happiness ended... I tried basic setup-1 dimm on each bank, nothing, same POST code. So, I RMA'ing the mobo and getting a MSI K8T Neo2 FIR mobo, hoping that it WILL work (a bit more, but worth it). Will it support what I have right now?
1 gig Crucial PC3200 Ballistix
1 WD 74 GB Raptor HDD
1 Maxtor 80 IDE HDD
1 XFX GeForce 6800 (it says minimum is a 300w PSU)
1 Thermaltake 480w Silent Purepower (+12 rail is 18a... mm... ouch...)
1 Thermaltake Venus 12 HSF
1 AMD 3500 Skt 939
1 Nec DVD+RW/-RW DVD burner
1 Mitsumi Floppy Drive
4 CoolerMaster Green LED fans
4 temperature controlled crystal fans
1 Blue LED fan
I think I might have to upgrade the PSU...Nobody can garantee you that it works you have to pay s.o. to take risk or risk it yourself.
Well I'd just try it, you'll always find a friend that can lend you a stick of ram for a day or two.
I was working in a computer store when I got my rig and I tried 4 different kinds of memory till everything worked perfectly.
I just wanted to warn you, not to frighten you.
Moreover you could check MSIs memory compatibility list....

Since BIOS V3.3 Speedfan (V 4.20) is not able to reduce the rpm of the CPU-Fan (of course connected to CFAN1). Before flashing BIOS 3.2, it worked well (CPU < 40°C = Fan spins with 60%). After flashing BIOS 3.3 (because it resolves the problem with USB legacy and WindowsXP), Speedfan (and Corecenter) do not reduce die fan power. If i stay a while in the BIOS, i can hear, how the fan runs lower and lower. But under windows the fan runs on full power.
I have this problem too.
I don't have ability to change speed fan for CPU, and then I have 60 degrees on full load.
When I setup in CoreCenter utility to user mode and fan to high speed, as if by miracle on cpu fan speed change from 1600 to 2400,
but now it's on 1600 again and setup in core center dont't make any change on speed fan.
Is it OK in bios 3.2 ? with setup speed on cpu ? -
Windows XP shows only 1/2 of the memory I have installed in my case 256MB.

With MSI K8T NEO2 FIR Mb (help)
Hi.
I need some help....!
My computer contains:
AMD64 3500+ (130nm, Newcastle) socket 939
MSI K8T NEO2 FIR Hovedkort for S939 K8T800PRO
Kingston PC3200 HyperX DDR 1024MB CL2 Non-ECC Ultra Low Latency (2-2-2-5-1)
Gainward GeForce 6800GT 256MB GS GDDR3 AGP, "Ultra/2400 Golden Sample"
9 X Western Digital HD's
2 X Nec dvd-burning-r
A Gainward psu. (delivers "+3,3=28a" "+5=45a" "+12=20a" and a total of 550W)
I think I have a power problem... because the "+12" has a rather low number for this kind of system... and the BIOS is showing me that the "+12" reading is -- 11,42V -- This is idle in BIOS... and I got the same reading in Win... (idle)
The first thing I thought of was to disable as many disk's/cd-drives as I was able to... the only thing I have left is C: BUT!! the bios and windows gives me the same reading of the "+12" 11,42V.
Both +3,3 and +5 are on the + side.
The main problem is when I ex starts a game or a benchmark prog... Like HL2,battlefield,War3,3dmarks,Prime95 + + + the pc shuts down, or the prog/game won't run properly.... Kind of irritating!!!
Do anybody have any experience with this kind of problem?!?!?! I need help!
I thought of buying the OCZ 520w psu.... Does it solve the problem?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_powerstream_power_supply
This psu should give me these specs:
520W:
+3.3V(28A)
+5V(40A)
+12V(33A)
Many Thanks for your help!!
regards.
KrisPrime95 version 23.8.1 is my first choice, I run the torture test in blend mode because it uses lots of ram, very sensitive to errors. Pure math computataions and matched against known results.
I also use Hot Cpu tester Pro 4.2.2, they do have a free version as well it tests alot of different cpu instructions as well as memory simultaniously as well as doing a burn-in. Faster than Prime, nice when your overclocking since you can see what is failing sse instructions for example, then you can either up the cpu voltage or ram voltage depending on the test or back off the oc a bit.Used it alot with my old Barton 2500 rig.
I've seen a third program used on some of the overclocking sites Superpi. I believe, lol, been meaning to bookmark and try it myself. I imagine it's used to quickly detect memory errors as well as being a benchmark without stressing components.
This board isn't made for overclocking kind of useless without a working agp/pci lock. Sata corruption over 220 fsb so I've been content with using the first 2 programs to tweak my memory settings and test for stability.
Yeah I noticed that too when I set the DDR to 400 the bios will override the Cas being set to 2 and run it at 2.5 My board doesn't freeze when saving it though. I leave it set at 2.5 in the bios and use A64Tweaker to manually set the Cas to 2 in windows it works fine that way and is easily verified with cpuz or everest. Personally I don't trust using spd in the bios and prefer to manually set all the timing to the manufacturers recommended settings. *edit* I also forgot to mention to when you check your ram manufacturer's website to see if the sticks of ram are capably of Command Rate 1T(CR) some can't other can only if one stick is being used. You may need to set the Dram 1T timing to disable, sorry about that -

Hola, (Hi)
(Last week i've had same issue with that board. Update the Bios to 9.2 version according to this forum: 1st. populate first slot with one memory stick and run the Bios update. Tunr off your PC and... 2nd populate slot 2 and 4 and you are ready.)
El único problema que he encontrado con esta BIOS es que la tarjeta de video Gcube 9600XT presenta algunos saltos en los juegos. (The only issue about that bios version it's the GeCube Radeon 9600XT that JUMPING in all games.)

MSI K8T Neo2-FIR - Cool'n'Quiet FIX
Just turn Cool'n'Quiet off in the BIOS...that's what I did and it works now.
Doesn't make sense...but oh well.
Gman22@Gman - I see now, what you meant. Another workaround: Speedfan.
@Bas: Gman referred to the bug in Core Center, where fan speed can't be controlled if CnQ is enabled.
Yes, I know that CnQ is something else than fan control.
Fan (the hardware way) control on K8T Neo2-F(IR) is fixed and can not be set by user. Actually CPU fan speed will normally be 2/3. I think that CFAN will rise to 100% if a certain temperature is reached. Although SFAN could be regulated, too, MSI apparently decided to let this on 100% speed.
So, if user wants other fan speeds, he has to rely on additional software.
Core Center is not suitable because of a bug that prevents the software from controlling fans if CnQ is enabled. On the other hand, CC doesn't seem to be designed for Windows NT 5.x, where different types of users that have different permissions are established since 1999 (Release of W2k)

[Athlon64] MSI K8T Neo2-FIR motherboards
Hi there Friends in this Forum.
Have MSI solving all kind of problems they had before with their socket 939 Motherboards?
And witch socket 939 motherboard is the best one in this moment?
“Sorry for my bad English and my bad spelling”
This is a great and helpful Forum for MSI user!Mr. Freddy,
Another great board from MSI designed to use the Socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 Processor
is the K8N Diamond's brother: The K8N SLI Platinum (Also MS-7100 Ver. 1.0)
K8N SLI Platinum
Either way, you can't go wrong with any of those two mainboards.
They're almost the same product, but in the case of the K8N SLI Platinum there are some little differences:
1) Four SATA connectors instead of the six SATA connectors you'll find in the K8N Diamond.
2) One Gigabit LAN RJ-45 connector, instead of the two Gigabit LAN RJ-45 connectors in the K8N Diamond.
3) Finally, you'll find a Passive MOS in the K8N SLI Platinum, instead of the Active MOS you'll find in the K8N Diamond.
Everything else, is exactly the same thing. They even have the same model number: MS-7100.
They're both excellent MSI products.
Sincerely, -

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=98598.0Hi again - and thanks for your help .... the memory I have is GEIL PC3200 DDR400 (they have blue heatsinks)and I had 2 x 256 and 2x512 ... the reason for this was when I originally built this system I bought 2 x 256 (unmatched but the same - they didn't sell themn matched then - very little difference in the serial nos ....4000194 and 4000180) .. then I upgraded the memory by getting 2 x 512 (couldn't afford 2x1Gig) ... and these are matched SN5014693 -came as a pack of two in a DULA CHANNEL MEMORY box.
I very quickly discovered that you couldn't just put the 2x512 in 1 and 2 and 2x256 in 3 and 4 .... so I had them as 2 x 512 in 1 and 3 and the 2x256s in 2 and 4 and they ran at 166 in dual channel mode.... no probs.... the BIOS automatically set the timings ... they ran at 2.5-6-3-3 when I had 2 sticks of 2x256 ... and I guess the 2x512s would as well, but with all 4 it winds the bus down to 166 and alters the timigs to 3 -?-?-? .. all I can remember is that it was 3 for RAS/CAS (?) ... and if you woork it out 3 cycles at 166 is faster than 2.5 at 200 ...
Anyway ... does that help - do you think I need to boost the memory voltage a bit from 2.5v?
Stability to me is related to whether or not games will play - in 2D it was fine - it was with the 3D of gaming with the new 7800GS I bought as the other part of the upgrade - I thought the combination would make a half-decent games machine for a while to come - benchmarks wouldn't run and half-life 2 without locking up and MOHPA locked up ...but TRL, FEAR, Quake 4 all run fine.
Thanks again

Goto Device Manager -> View -> Show hidden devices (enable)
Goto the multimedia-section (where the exclamation marks are) and uninstall all devices marked with an exclamation mark LEAVE THE OTHERS!
==> Note: if you see two of the same installed devices of which one is installed wrongly (excl. mark) and the other is grayed out, uninstall them both. Note to leave all other things, like codecs, alone. If you don't, you ruin your Windows <==
Now, reboot Windows and when the hardware install wizard pops up, cancel that and install the audio drivers manually.
Then the JAUD-pin header: open your case. The JAUD pins are at the bottom left of your board. JAUD1 should be printed next to it. It looks like this:

I am running MS Windows 2000 Pro with SP4 installed. The only USB ports on the board that show USB2.0 status are the ones between the com ports and the ones under the LAN port. All the others are relegated to USB1.0 status. The device manager shows them the same way. I have tried all the new drivers and nothing seems to work. I find it rather strange that only 2 of the 8 avalible ports are USB2.O enabled.
If anyone can hlep me out with this I would appreciate it.

Get Wonka to chase up MSI, he will have more clout, perhaps.
I will recheck that all the wires are onto pins on mine, it took 3 seperate attempts to get the Neo Clawhammer working, missing the pins with wires - I need one of those magnifyong lights, and a new set of eyes and fingers.
Check with Balarc Advisor or similar, that the USB2 driver update loaded OK, you might need to install it again.
Hi Wonka, the 9th wire safely tucked away, tnx. BUT seeing how your here. Apart from the 2 front USB on this Thermaltake Skull. I have a 4 port USB front drive bay unit inserted, the header is onto the JUSB1, having removed the D Bracket header. these units work on all other MSI boards, noticed when using Mem sticks, reports USB device nor recognised, plug into back its fine.
