Hello and Welcome!
You will like this system, íf you do normal things with your computer and don't play the most modern games.

Processor and motherboard will work well together:

Overclocking questions have a different headline. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?board=27.0  It is up to you, but a V-board and overclocking is not the best combination. I think Corsair makes better memory than A-data.
Don't forget to say the PSU, please.

What case have you got? And what wires has it got? That might be a factor.
This is a Value board. Those normally have not so good a manual. I'll try to find a manual you can use a little easier. But please note, that another manual is for another motherboard, so not all works.    Mod: No, it is in the manual, p 7 in English part. Where the JFP1 is you find on p 1, South East corner.
If there is some connector from your case that does not fit on JFP1 you can instead use pins on JFP2, just West of JFP1.

Replace all normal capacitors with Solid ones...
Change the power layout for a more stable output
Replace the bios chip and configuration with one from a Asus P5B
Now you officially own an MSI P5B
    Happy soldering
No, really, until MSI can put out a decent BIOS for your board, there isn't much you can do my friend

There 2 X2 6000+ CPUs, 89W & 125W, since the 89W has not been available lately you most likely have the 125W version and it is not supported for use on that MB, 125W CPU will overload and fry the MOSFET voltage regulators for the CPU.
     >> MSI CPU support page << for your MB.

The onboard should turn itself off when the card is inserted.
You don't need to do anything.
Try the card in a different system or return it, as it should work right out of the box.

  • MSI K9N6PGM2-v,,,,,,having problems getting 3.5 floppy to run, appreciate help.

I purchased an AMD computer that had the MSI K9N6PGM2-v motherboard.  It has a CD/DVD combo drive.  My wife wants to use this for her bookkeeping on a Rural Water District she keeps books.  Her old computer had a 3.5 floppy drive she did backups of her Rural Water District program.  In order to use her backups with this new computer, I need to transfer her old 3.5 floppy drive to the new computer.  My college aged son was home over the weekend, and installed the 3.5 drive.  I watched him do it, and seen where he just plugged it into the motherboard, and I believe plugged a power wire into the drive also.  Anyway, I didnt check it out when he was done, and he is now back at school.  I tried to use the floppy drive tonight, but nothing happened.  The power light comes on the front, but the drive is not recognized.  When I go into device manager, I see it has no A: floppy drive, the only drive that is listed is the Cd/DVD combo drive.  There is no manual with this computer, as we bought it from a friend, who built it.  Is there something my son "missed" when hooking this up, or does something int he BIOS need to be changed in order for the drive to be recognized?  I am not very computer literate, when it comes to changing BIOS and things, but with instructions, I will try anything.  My wife is angry that I do not have her computer working, and she needs to do the bookkeeping this weekend.  I would appreciate any help you could supply.
    thanks,
    coadman

Is your floppy 2.88? Not likely! I'd bet if you set it for 1.44 it would work as that's what most floppies are. Since 1987.
Edit: From something I just looked up:
     2.88 MB 3.5" Floppy
"The highest-capacity format for floppy disks is the 2.88 MB 3.5" disk that was developed by Toshiba in the late 80s. The 2.88 MB offers double the capacity of the 1.44 MB disk by using special media and a special recording method.
If you've never used or even heard of this drive format before, then you are exactly right. It is basically a dead format; I very rarely if ever see it used. The exact reason why is anybody's guess, but these three factors weigh heavily in my mind when I consider why it might be that nobody uses 2.88 MB floppies despite the fact that everyone hates the small size of the 1.44 MB floppy:"

  • HELP! MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 + 9800GT No pci-e vid, just onboard?

    Hey folks.
I recently assembled the following system...
    System Config: MSI K9N6PGM2-V2, 2x Corsair 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory , Ultra LS500 500W PSU 5V-32/3.3V-20/12V-28, windows 7 ULT 64bit, Seagate 500GB Sata, AMD Phenom X4 9750
On boot with 9800GT installed, GPU Fan runs, no weird beeps, everything seems ok but the board will not see the pci-e card.
When I unhook the monitor cable from the 9800, the screen says "no VGA connected" or whatever, when I connect the cable to the 9800 it just stays on standby with black screen.
If I switch the video cable to the on-board video it works just fine, but if i switch it to the 9800, the monitor goes on standby.
    Here's some stuff I've done:
Swapped 460se vcard with my 9800, it worked fine on this configuration, monitor/pc/psu immediately saw it/ plenty of power. (460 actually needs 2 6 pin)
Swapped 9800 into my other PC, so 9800 works fine.
So far I've figured out: PCI-e slot works on the mobo, 6 pin power hookup works on psu, 9800 works fine on another system.
I've reset Cmos, selected pci-e as primary, deleted onboard in device manager.
Tried All the tricks I can think of. I'm pulling my hair out! Can anyone help me?
    edit-updated system specs.

I'll check that site out but I also know that the number of items that draw heavily on the 12V rail could put a heavy load on a 550W and cause voltage problems. As such it could stay stable when not really in use at like 260w then after a few hours of game play the GPU of a modern card could put as much as a 400w load due to the constant pull on the rail. I dunno just a thought and that his whole issue could be under rated rails cause ultra does have that issue.
also it matters more to me cause I am now running a total of 19 x 120mm fans and 3 HHD and two cd/DVD and tv tuner card so you see lol it all matters to myself may not be his case
Having a bit of headroom on the PSU is always good, thats why I purchased a TX750v2. Also that website link bas posted is a Good website.
For this persons system I'd probably pickup a TX650v2 just for safe keeping. Future proofing is always nice and most times its only a few bucks more.

  • MSI K9N6PGM2 help!

hello all! i just bought a MSI K9N6PGM2 motherboard. im trying to find out where the power button wires go?
theres 2 hole "ide led" 2 hole PWR ground, 2 hole reset ground, 4 hole speaker ground and  a 3 hole pled.
i think they go into JFP2 but not sure. can someone tell em exacly where they go? and what pins i put each into.
    Many thanks!

  • MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 -WinXP Home- Eide HDD -

I purchased this  MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 MB with a Bare Bones kit from Tiger. I assembled everything and put in an old Maxtor Eide 120 Gig HDD from
my wife's previous computer so I could clone it to a Seagate Barracuda 500 Gig that came with the kit.
It would come up to a green error screen with some instructions and hex info if I tried to boot normally.
So I went to Safe Mode and tried to load drivers from the CD and it came up with an error message ... DVD "Failed to Load Hardware Monitor Driver" . I went through various setups
in the Bios and took out the sata DVD drive and installed an Eide DVD at the end of the HD cable all with the same results.
I started thinking it was a video problem so I changed the Bios setup from the default PCI to the Internal setting and went to the display settings in Safe Mode.
There was no info or ID about a video chip set just "unrecognized". I disabled the driver and figured if I rebooted it might recognize the Nvidia chips.
No Dice. But... Now I cant get past the text loading screen for Safe Mode, it just hangs at Drivers\Mup.sys.   if I try to load Windows normally I no longer get the green error screen
but do get a powder blue Windows Copyright screen that's all jumbled and then it hangs also. It sometimes has a splash of orange but mostly just blue.
So... I still think it's a video thing but where do I go from here without being able to get into Safe Mode?
Is there a jumper to disable the internal video on this board or just in the Bios setup.
I have UBCD4Win and that loads in fine off the CD with multiple VGA resolutions but how do I get my XP Home to correctly recognize this MB's video ?
How do I get Safe Mode to fully load again?
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks
    Tim

I can't uninstalled itunes.  I get the message  (itunes64.msi missing)  any help out there??

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Problems with MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 Motherboard in a barebone package

    Hi:
I bought a MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 Motherboard and AMD Athlon X2 5200+ AD5200OCK22GM Processor with a DiabloTek CPA-0280 Elite ATX Mid Tower Case from TigerDirect. This is their so-called barebone package.
Unfortunately, I did not receive the CPU cooler so I bought a FAN from a computer store. Now, I cannot seem to make the system work.
    I have several questions.
First, the JPWR2 power connector on the MSI is 4-pin.  However, I cannot find a 4-pin power cable from the DiabloTek case. There is one cable that has 6-pin and it can fit into the JPWR2. Unfortunately, when I turn on the power, the Motherboard does not boot.
Second, I have an elder case, which does have a 4-pin power cable and the motherboard does boot. However, I do not see the BIOS in the screen.
I guess that I must have done many wrong things there.
Could someone who is familar with this motherboard pelase give me some suggestions?
    Thank you very much,
    Cheers,

Fan? You need a heatsink with a fan to cool the CPU down, just a fan won't do it.
As for the case + PSU: +12V: 30A that isn't a lot, but should show a BIOS if you didn't insert some fancy videocard.
And for the 6pin, that's a PCIe powerconnector!!!
According to TigerDirect: 1x 4+4 Pin Motherboard Connector +12V  so you have the proper connector.
But you may have blown something to pieces by gambling on the connections.
Else? Nothing left to say but: >>Posting Guide<<

  • Which Chipset Drivers for my MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 mobo?

Hi - I was over on the nVidia website looking for the latest chipset drivers and video drivers for my MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard.  I am a bit confused about which chipset drivers and video drivers I should use.  Here's the MSI link to my motherboard stats:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1863
Question 1 - Can you provide a link to the nVidia website to the correct chipset drivers?
Question 2 - Can you provide a link to the nVidia website to the correct video drivers?
I am about to move my PC's components to a new tower, in addition to reformatting and partitioning my hard drive.  I want to make sure I have the latest drivers.
    Thanks
    Joe

The latest drivers appear to be the ones on the MSI site here: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1863
The only drivers I found on the nVidia website are much older: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_8.26_11.09.html

about 4 years ago i built the msi k9n6pgm2-v2 system.

i also bought msi R4350 graphics card.
i have not installed the graphics card.
i want to upgrade to windows 8.1 64 bit version.
i did read on another post that the main board is
    compatible.
i am currently using xp 3.
can the video card be used with windows 8.1??

NVIDIA 960 card  + GAMING 5 motherboard = best bundle for budget gaming!
it would be nice to see more testing of hardware-demanding games!

When your time permits, list 'all' your systems components, OS etc., including PSU +12V amps on the rail(s).
    Quote
cannot even get it to post at 3.6ghz with manual voltage increases in all things, and auto doesnt help, is this normal?
Yes, when it isn't necessary to do "increases in all things".
    Quote
Im not very confident with doing the ioh mod but im getting 90 degrees with no overclock
The addition of a fan to direct air flow at the IOH, will reduce the temp. The Antec Spot Cool works well for this. Aftermarket CPU coolers have taken away the engineered passive air flow the stock cooler provides (presuming you are not using the stock cooler). 90c is in spec, so RMA solely upon that is doubtful. Again, when time permits, include what OC goals you are looking for as well. Most OC'ing takes time, patience, & trial & error.

This topic has been moved to MSI Notebook.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158037.0

I had the exact same symptoms and managed to fix this issue by resetting the BIOS.
If you're not afraid of taking a screwdriver to your laptop, do the following:
    - unscrew the bottom plate
    - find the battery, in my case it was covered in blue plastic
    - pull the wire that's attached to it, from its connector on the motherboard
    - after a minute, plug it back in
The above worked for me, I hope it helps someone else as well.
